With increasing healthcare costs, many people have opted to invest in a medical plan to make sure they and their loved ones are well protected because we will never know when we need it.
Just imagine (not overthink) if any unfortunate incident happens and one is not prepared with any financial support, the amount of hospital bills could reach more than thousands and no one in this case is going to trade his/her kidney for an immediate solution.
Better to be safe than sorry.
However, misassumption often happens as many people think that owning a medical card 'entirely' means they do not have to spend a penny anymore.
In fact, a medical card does not cover 100% of one's hospital bills and treatments even the medical card is paid monthly. Here is the reason why!

1) Hospital Admission

Every (private) hospital charges a different deposit upon patients when is admitted. However, people are advised to at least spare RM300 minimum regardless of owning a personal medical card or under one's company.
According to his experience, the deposit is better to sort with physical cash as the hospital will refund the payment faster compared to using a debit card; the process will cost a bit of time to receive a refund.
2) Deductible

In a medical card context, deductible is the upfront amount you pay before your insurance plan starts covering the rest of the bill.
Let's say, if one's total bill costs RM30,000 and the package (of the medical card) offers a maximum of RM29,500, the total one has to add is RM500. Get it?

This medical plan is entitled to a fixed amount of one has to pay 10% beforehand, excluding the charges of room and hospitality in the hospital.

A medical card does not cover a medical check-up for someone who has no chronic health issues. But if one wants to do so, the bills will be on his/her own.
The reason is that before the admission, the doctor in charge will require a Guarantee Letter (GL) from one's insurance company. The report will be attached with supporting documents such as X-Ray, CT scans and the list goes on.
Within this matter, if one is not detected by any severe illnesses; he/she will cover the medical check-up bill. If the opposite, the bill will be directly issued to GL.
5) Pre-Admission Test
The medical card also does not cover one's pre-admission test or so-called RTK/PCR test that most people will have to go through before being admitted to a hospital. Blame COVID.
In this case, an individual will have to cover his/her own RTK/PCR test in the hospital bill as soon after being discharged.

6) Price Range For Room/Ward
Let's say, the initial provided room costs RM150 but one might require another room with a little privacy which costs RM250. This means that person will have to cover the extra charge amount RM100 aside from the medical card.

7) Extra Payment For Room OUTSIDE FROM OFFERED PACKAGE
When a person applies for a room that is out from the package offered by the medical card, the person will opt for another 10% co-payment from the total bill.
To do the math, let's say if Syamie (a random patient character) upgrades his quad sharing room costs RM150 to a single room costs RM250. Once he gets well, he will settle his total payment plus 10% of his total payment. The 10% charge works like a penalty, somehow.
So many charges to pay, Syamie might be sick all again&hellip;

8. No Cover For Miscellaneous items

A medical card is surely helpful in many ways based on one's preference package. However, people should take note that medical card has a limit in covering medical issues and not simply assume that they do not have to cover any additional payment.
Remember to try your best to back up your savings sufficiently because a medical card will only lessen one's burden from paying a mountain of pennies. Take care everyone!

In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves across Malaysia, a former MasterChef Malaysia finalist and her ex-husband have each been sentenced to 34 years in prison for the torture and murder of their 28-year-old Indonesian domestic helper. The case, heard at the Kota Kinabalu High Court, exposed disturbing details of prolonged abuse suffered by the victim, whose death came amid the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The court found that Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong, 37, and her former spouse, Mohammad Ambree Yunos, 44, were jointly responsible for the death of Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin. The crime took place over several days between 8 and 11 December 2021 at their shared residence in Amber Tower, Lido Avenue Condominium, located in Penampang, Sabah.
The prosecution revealed that Nur Afiyah, who had migrated from Indonesia to work as a maid, was subjected to persistent mistreatment and inhumane working conditions. She was not only deprived of wages and basic rights, but also physically tortured over an extended period. Photos and videos presented in court&mdash;recovered from the couple&rsquo;s own mobile phones&mdash;graphically captured the abuse she endured in the days leading up to her death.

Court Delivers Verdict and Sentencing

The two were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which pertains to murder committed by more than one person. This section allows for the death penalty, or imprisonment for not less than 30 years and up to 40 years, as well as not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane for those not sentenced to death.
