With modern times now, there&rsquo; been a lot of businesses being done fully online now and less people have been going to ATMs and using cash outside.
Businesses such as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) should also adopt start adopting cashless transactions as it&rsquo;s fast + safe said Prime Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Covid-19 pandemic had encouraged many methods of cashless payment and it&rsquo;s become common for many to not bring their wallets or cash out. In 2021 alone, ecash transactions alone amounted to RM50.5 Billion in comparison to RM29.6 Billion in 2020 he said.
&ldquo;This is the main reason why the ePemula programme is introduced. We want to encourage youth to embrace cashless transaction,&rdquo; he said when launching the ePemula initiative.
EPemula is another ecash programme set to benefit some two million youths and students in institutions of higher learning.
Under the programme, eligible youths between 18 and 20 as well as full-time students in institutions of higher learning will be given RM150 in ecash.

Another factor for the introduction of the Epemula programme is to help ease the financial burden of the youth.
&ldquo;We hope youths will spend the credit given to them wisely and support local businesses, especially the micro, small and medium scale industry so that these businesses can recover.
&ldquo;With more businesses back on track, there will be more revenue for the government and more people, especially the B40 group, can be assisted,&rdquo; he added.

With many youths out there today, it&rsquo;s important to support them as they play a big role on how our country develops. Ismail Sabri also says that they need to be given opportunities to chart Malaysia&rsquo;s future.
The government will be drafting the National Youth Economic Empowerment Plan to further strengthen their roles in the development of the country.

Finance Minister Tengku Daruk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz mentioned that more shops have begun accepting payments via ewallets due to the pandemic.
Malaysia recorded a 60% increase in registrations for ecash, Duit Now and QR code transactions as of December 2021. Cashless transactions went up by 74.4% compared to 2020 as 1.1 billion such transactions were made in 2021.
Through the Epemula programme, Zafrul hopes that ecash payments will remain and support more digital financial initiatives.

"Go Cashless!" Prime Minister Encourages Malaysians

Many people consider themselves as brave, but are you brave enough to even think about carrying a deceased body with you? Well that&rsquo;s exactly what had occurred in Thailand, where a 25-year-old volunteered to retrieve a man's body out of the forest, and here&rsquo;s why.
A rescue team was assigned to transport the body of a middle-aged man who was found dead in the forest in Wiang Pa Pao district in Chiang Rai province.
The Siam Ruamjai Foundation&rsquo;s ambulance could not reach the exact location where the dead body was found, therefore the rescue team had to ride motorbikes for over an hour in order to reach the site. &nbsp;The original plan was to make their very own bamboo stretcher to carry the body out, however that would have the taken the team an extra hour to cut the bamboo trees, and make a stretcher similar to the image below.

As the night was approaching, and rain clouds forming in the sky, Jaturon Duangrat, a 25-year-old member of the rescue team, &nbsp;bravely volunteers to carry the body to the ambulance. &ldquo;This way, we can save time,&rdquo; the young male said to his colleagues, as he offers to take the body on his motorbike, by carefully wrapping the dead man&rsquo;s corpse onto his back with the help of his team, before beginning his difficult ride out of the forest.
The operation actually took place in late May, however only now has it become widely known when an unnamed friend of Jaturon had shared the story onto social media. Many Thai netizens praised Jaturon for his bravery and dedication in performing his duties and completing his mission.

Recently, a post had gone viral on social media with over 7.6K retweets and 18.5K likes. A Malaysian woman named Eleanor had called out a property on Airbnb racist as the agent had turned down their booking due to her boyfriend being an Indian.

Eleanor had stated that she and her boyfriend were planning to book a homestay for his family&rsquo;s annual Christmas trip and had called up the property agent to clarify some questions about the property before deciding to book it.
She and the agent had also spoked in mandarin during their conversation and initially all went smoothly. But things took a turn when her boyfriend reached out to the same agent as he was asked to declare his race upon asking about the Airbnb.
Typically, everyone would get confused on why someone would do such thing and naturally he had asked upon the matter. The agent replied that they would only rent it to Chinese and Malay people and had also cancelled their booking following the conversation.

I too have faced something similar to this when my friends booking was rejected due to him being Chinese.

#Racist Airbnb Host Cancels Couples Booking Due To “No Indians Allowed” Rule

Right now, the South Asian island is in its worst economic meltdown yet, after years of struggling with financing imports of essentials like food, medicine and fuel. Of course, the increase of fuel prices is a common occurrence, as almost the entire world, including &nbsp;Malaysia have experienced their local fuel costs going up in the past year, and naturally many Malaysians (event the super-rich) are feeling the pinch of the expensive fuel prices.
The government recently announced in a statement that they will be maintaining the ceiling prices of RON95 at RM 2.05 per litre, RON97 at RM4.84 per litre, and as for diesel, it will remain at RM 2.15 per litre. These retail fuel prices will be effective from June 30th 2022 until July&nbsp; 6th 2022.

Recently the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) Youth Chief, Ahmad Fadhli Saari has been hit with hard criticisms over his visit to a cinema in Kuala Lumpur in support of the premier of the local film &ldquo;Mat Kilau&rdquo;.

As some of you may know the state of Kelantan does not have a single cinema as the party rules PAS had deemed it a source of maksiat (social ills).

According to the state Deputy Menteri besar, Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah, the state has not received any complains about the absence of cinemas in the state over the last 30 years of rulership under PAS. He even stated that the people of the state don&rsquo;t think that a cinema is a necessity for them.
&ldquo;We (the PAS government) discussed at length the pros and cons of cinema during the time of (former menteri besar) Tok Guru (the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat) based on the circumstances and needs. So, we decided not to allow cinemas (to operate in Kelantan) and that is our stand,&rdquo; he said during an interview with YouTuber Feng Ren Guan.

Cinemas #Haram In Kelantan? No Problem, There’s Always Netflix

&nbsp;If you&rsquo;re one to like alcohol, more specifically beer, trust me you&rsquo;ll probably want to try or even maybe avoid this drink when you&rsquo;re in Singapore.
&ldquo;NEWBrew&rdquo; is no ordinary beer out of Singapore and what get it standing out from the crowd. Unlike most beers, NEWBrew is made with recycled sewage!

You heard me. The beverage is a collaboration between the country&rsquo;s national water agency, PUB&lt; and local craft brewery Brewerkz. The drink was initially unveiled at a water conference back in 2018 and had finally gone on sale at Brewerkz outlets and supermarkets in April 2022.

A customer who purchased the beverage mentioned that he couldn&rsquo;t even tell that it was made out of toilet water. In fact, he even said he wouldn&rsquo;t mind having the drink in the fridge. &ldquo;I mean, it tastes just like beer, and I like beer&rdquo;.
How is this possible?

Since Singapore is a small country, many of their recourses are coming from recyclable items. NEWBrew uses NEWater which is a brand of water recycled from sewage water around the island. &nbsp;
The recycled water process has been going on since 2003 as it helps improve the island&rsquo;s water security. The whole purpose of introducing the beer is also to help educate Singaporeans on the importance of sustainable water use and recycling.
The idea first sparked when the world&rsquo;s supply of fresh water had been under stress as up to 2.7 billion people find water scarce for at least one month a year. But as time went by, the idea of recycling sewage water had been largely accepted to overcome the water crisis.
Did you know that other than Singapore, countries like Israel have also incorporated such methods and cities such as London and Los Angeles are slowly starting to do something similar.
Don&rsquo;t worry, the water you&rsquo;re drinking has gone through a tedious disinfecting process which involves ultraviolet light passing through the liquids advance membranes to remove the contaminant particles. Once the process is over, the out outcome is just purely water and water is a key essential towards the chemical reactions that happen when the beer is being brewed.

NEWBrew are not the only ones using recycled sewage for their beer but companies such as Nya Carnegie who are paired with Carlsberg and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute are planning to launch a pilsner with purified sewage soon. In Canada, researchers from the University of Calgary and US Water Technology company Xylem are also in works of rolling out their very own version of a recycled sewage water beer.

So far, not really. The thing with the stigma of thinking recycled sewage water still disgusts many people. A Singaporean student mentioned that there&rsquo;s many other beers around and he&rsquo;d rather pick something made out of normal water.
Meanwhile, others who had personally tried the beer themselves said that they wouldn&rsquo;t of even guessed that the beer was made out of recycled sewage water. They enjoyed the taste as it was refreshing and light which made it perfect for the tropical climate in Singapore.
If you&rsquo;re still in Singapore, you better be quick as the brewery expects the stocks to run out by the end of July as their first batch has completely been sold out. The brewer also says that they will assess the market response first before deciding if they&rsquo;ll make another batch of the beer.
At first thought, it sounds bad but when you really think of it, modern technology can definitely eliminate all the bacteria out of the sewage water and it&rsquo;s safe to consume. Like if it wasn&rsquo;t safe, people wouldn&rsquo;t have implemented it in the first place am I right?

Need A Beer? How About One Made From Recycled Sewage Water!

Everyone knows that Apple is a staple when it comes to brand identity out there. In fact, almost everyone wants an Apple product whether it being their iPhones, iPads or even the Macbook's.
But we all know one thing, to buy an Apple product, it could cost you an arm and a kidney. OK not really but it&rsquo;s really expensive and we undoubtedly know that.

Apple is now getting their hands into a financial service sector which allows customers to buy now and pay later (BNPL) scheme which is called Pay Later as an extension of Apple Pay (which is only available in the US for now).
The new feature will be rolling out with the upcoming iOS 16 this fall which will enable customers to make big purchases with instalments.

BNPL will allow users to split any purchases into four equal payments over the span of six weeks. The only condition is that customers are required to pay a quarter of the full amount upfront while the rest of the payments is made done every two weeks. For those who have Apple pay, the amount will be deducted out of the Wallet app either online or in-app using the Mastercard network.

The best part of it is that those taking the instalment plans from Apple will have a zero-interest rate. This makes the deal more attractive to those who can&rsquo;t pay the one lump sum.
The more unforgiving end of this instalment plan is that it&rsquo;s the risk of the youth or younger audience who&rsquo;s at least 73% of their customers to miss payments (cause you know some of them don&rsquo;t manage their money properly). It was reported that at least 43% of the Gen Z consumers are likely to miss one payment which leads them to an overdraft fee.
As of now the exact mechanism for the BNPL loans has not been announced but Apple says they would decision will be made by their treasury department. As for some of Apple&rsquo;s financial ventures is still handled by Goldman Sachs who oversees the Apple Card credit card, a new subsidiary called Apple Financing LLC will later be handling Apple Pay.
Will banks be involved when needing to approve of credit loans?

According to Apple, through this new subsidiary, they will be handling all the decisions and loans without a partner bank for its BNPL feature. As Apple Financing does not have a bank charter, Goldman Sachs and Mastercard will still be involved in the Pay Later scheme as they are qualified to issue the payment credentials.
Now the real question is if this scheme will be coming in Malaysia as Apple Pay is not available yet.

A famous hotpot restaurant in Beijing known as Ma Hong&rsquo;s Spicy Hotpot had been struggling to stay afloat since their opening in 2021. Due to the pandemic, the prices of beef had tripled and key ingredients now costing more than 50% of their original price.
"We sell it at the same price as before. Also with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, everybody is hanging in there. It is the same all over Beijing. We are not the only restaurant suffering," said the owner of the restaurant.

With the war going on, it certainly didn&rsquo;t help the fact that the price of ingredients and materials had increased and affected the supply chain which was already struggling since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Let&rsquo;s put Asia to perspective, there are many stalls which sell delicious street food at an affordable price. It became popular to many households but with the price of goods increasing, many are feeling the pressure of expense usage.
In an interview with an owner of a biryani store in Kranchi, Pakistan, Mohammad Ilyas states that the price of a kilogram of the seasoned rice dish is costly as it&rsquo;s now 400 Pakistani rupees (~RM9.26).

Ilyas also noted that some businesses are dealing with the pressure of cutting portion sizes due to the expensive cost. A dish which was meant to be affordable to many had inflated so much that the poor can&rsquo;t afford to eat it.
Meanwhile in Jakarta, a nasi goreng street vendor, Syahrul Zainullah had to unfortunately reduce the size of his servings instead of raising the price. He also didn&rsquo;t want to opt out for lower grade ingredients in fear of losing the taste that many like.

Meanwhile al the way up in South Korea, inflation of vegetables has been hitting many sellers hard. Choi Sun-hwa who&rsquo;s a 67-year-old kimchi shop owner had shared that she used to be able to get 10 heads of cabbage for a particular price and now with the inflation, she only received 7.

Kimchi is a spicy fermented cabbage which is a highly popular side dish in South Korea which is generally free with every meal at eateries. One customer at Chio&rsquo;s store even joked that they should rename kimchi to &ldquo;keum-chi&rdquo; as keum stands for gold in Korean.
If the price of goods keeps increasing, Choi says that she won&rsquo;t likely be able to continue running the business if she can&rsquo;t raise prices.
Change of eating habits

Due to the cost of goods being expensive, many have now opted to limit eating out and start cooking at home more. Some even comment the days where we can buy many items with RM150 at grocery stores and nowadays, you can barely get anything.
In fact, drinks are sometimes more expensive than food too which makes many people think twice before spending.
Honestly, I do hope that the economy would recover cause at this rate, fresh grads who just got jobs will really suffer to get their daily necessities especially if they live away from their parents. They&rsquo;ll need to think of rental, maintenance fees, petrol and many more things.

For those who don&rsquo;t know about crypto.com, their app serves as a one-stop platform for users to access, buy, manage and sell their different types of cryptocurrency. In fact, the company also offers users a Visa prepaid card of varying tiers which allows users to spend their cryptocurrency under the company&rsquo;s own CRO native token.

Yeah, let that thought sink in. Half the time we go out to eat, our drink is either half the price if not more than the price of some of our food.
With the rising cost of living, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced a new policy to help those working. The minimum wage of workers will now be increased to RM1,500 a month. According to him, the new minimum salary will be raised will come into effect on 1 May and details will be finalised soon.
Human Resource Ministry and the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry will be holding discussions to identify the small and micro businesses who can&rsquo;t afford to pay the minimum RM1,500.
So far, no conditions have been revealed yet, but these selected small businesses may be able to &ldquo;delay&rdquo; the payment of the new minimum wage. Judging by this statement, it suggests that there will be a policy that will be implemented for this issue.
What is the rough usage of families per month if you&rsquo;re living in the city?

According to Bank Negara&rsquo;s living wage estimates, the above is the rough wages used for each of these categories for someone living in Kuala Lumpur back in 2016.
If a single adult needed 2,700 back in 2016, imagine now fast forwarding 6 years later. I&rsquo;m sure it&rsquo;s increased.
Just last week, Human Resources Minister M. Saravanan revealed that the minimum wage increase will be placed &ldquo;soon&rdquo; instead of waiting till the end of the year. Although this is good, not everyone is keen on the increase such as the Malaysian Employers Federation (EPF) as they claim that this is only beneficial for foreign workers in the country.
For those who didn&rsquo;t know, the National Wages Council is required to review the minimum salary every two years and changed will be subjected based off discussions. Back in 2012, the minimum wage was set at RM900 and in 2020 a revision was made to hike it to RM1,200 in 56 cities and towns. Unfortunately, even with the hike, some cities had remained at RM1,100.
Sometimes, I&rsquo;m pretty sure a lot of people question the government on how they look at the price of minimum wage. They clearly know that prices of items are going up but how high can it go? Even our vegetables are expensive now.

Ministry To Enforce RM1,500 Minimum Wage Starting 1 May 2022

Are you someone who&rsquo;s very into the whole cryptocurrency scene? If you are, then you&rsquo;ve probably heard of Binance who is the world&rsquo;s leading crypto exchange.
If you didn&rsquo;t already know, they are making a return to the Malaysian market with a strategic stake in the country&rsquo;s regulated digital asset trading platform MX Global.
Binance and Cuscapi Berhad acquired a key stake in MX Global who are one of four recognized market operators &ndash; digital asset exchange license by the Securities Commission (SC) in Malaysia.

The leading crypto exchange aims to expand the sustainable growth of the crypto market in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, MX Global aims to become a leading liquidity hub in the region and expand their market with their new partnership.
A thing to note is the difficulty to mitigate regulatory compliance requirements in different regions. Due to this, Binance had slew of partnerships and it reflects a pattern of sorts. Back in July 2021, crypto exchange services in Malaysia were restricted as the SC said that these exchanges could not comply with the regulatory laws.
Partnership helps to understand local regulatory approach
&ldquo;This is part of Binance&rsquo;s initiatives to cooperate with regulators. By working with regulated platforms, we are supporting local representatives to further expand their businesses while they stay compliant,&rdquo; said a spokesperson from Binance.
While Binance reopens in Malaysia and needs to comply with the regulatory laws, it&rsquo;s a while different ball game happening in Singapore. Binance had withdrew their crypto license application a week before announcing an 18% stake in the private stock exchange.

Even in the UK, Binance was banned but they have now managed access to the payment method after announcing their partnership with PaySafe.
Similarly, crypto exchange is suffering the same issue in Thailand as operations had shut down in July 2021. But in 2022, thanks to a partnership with the country&rsquo;s Gulf Energy Development PCL, they made a return into the Thai market.
Is it safe to trade with Biannce?
In short, yes it should be safe for you to trade your crypto with Binance.
Back in 2021, they faced an issue with regulatory warnings and service restrictions from many countries due to their regulations. But with the introduction of partnering with other third-party companies, they have finally mended their regulatory relationship with other countries.
