When we talk jobs, there&rsquo;s no such thing as an easy job out there.
In fact, one of the most tasking and difficult jobs out there is being a doctor as you pay so much to learn and also have a slim chance of getting that said job.

This time around, netizens have launched a stinging attack on the government doctors who refused to comply with the transfer norms. Many government doctors had been requested by the Health Ministry (KKM) to be transferred to Sabah and Sarawak which caused dissatisfaction among them.
The Hartak Doktor Kontrak took to social media to blame the government who left them with no choice but to quit their jobs.

Doctors slammed for being picky
Many had given their opinions online and also questioned medical practitioners and doctors for being picky of where they want to work. In fact, they are not exactly forced to become jobless as KKM had offered more jobs after the protest.

Netizens also felt that East Malaysia was being alienated due to the doctors refusing to move there for their jobs hence the reason behind why many doctors are jobless.
Doctors are not the only ones being sent to Sabah and Sarawak as other civil servants such as teachers and soldiers have been transferred to the other side.

By the looks of it, most doctors are not willing to move to Sabah and Sarawak due to their own personal struggles. Those coming from Semenanjung Malaysia mainly have the issue of being separated from their family as they have to leave behind their spouses and kids if they were to move.
Meanwhile one netizen says that one real issue we have is the failure to produce enough doctors from Sabahans and Sarawakians.

Doctors on strike saying they are not discriminating Sabah and Sarawak
After the whole protest, KKM had opened up placement for doctors which mainly situated in both Sabah and Sarawak in August 2021. But it seems like this wasn&rsquo;t enough for the contract doctors.
They had pointed fingers at KKM stating that no sense was made as the doctor shortage covered the whole country. Some had also clamed that an initial group of medical officers offered to work there had been promised various benefits, but all were not fulfilled.
Gerakan Hartal Doktor stated that the issue of shortage of doctors had been pointed towards contract doctors rejecting the offers to go to the two states. They also insisted that the matter of the placement to the doctors wasn&rsquo;t the issue since every state is facing a shortage of doctors.
It was said that only 200 of the 300 medical officers appointed by KKM were willing to be based in Sabah Sarawak.

Just for those who didn&rsquo;t know, when a doctor is based in Sabah and Sarawak there only two ways about this. Either they are based in a town, or they will be placed in the rural areas where they&rsquo;ll be required to take boats, helicopters or 4WD vehicles to get around from one kampung to another to treat patients. 
Issues of job security among contract doctors

As a refresher, the Hartal Doktor Kontrak movement was a protest of doctors demanding for permanent positions for all contract doctors through transparent selection criteria. The movement was mainly compromised of junior doctors who threatened to go on leave unless their demands are met.
They had even issued a three-week ultimatum to the government to meet their demands.

I do agree to an extent that contract doctors deserve the same pay standards as full-time doctors. However, I do believe that these doctors should not reject offers to go to other states as they are letting go of an opportunity to properly work again.

In a dramatic conclusion to one of Malaysia&rsquo;s most high-profile political court cases in recent years, former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has been fully acquitted of all corruption-related charges by the Court of Appeal. The unanimous decision, delivered by a three-judge panel, reverses the Kuala Lumpur High Court&rsquo;s previous conviction, which had sentenced the Muar MP to seven years in prison, two strokes of the rotan, and a RM10 million fine.
Justice Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, who chaired the panel, announced the decision on 25 June 2025, alongside Justices Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin. Justice Noorin, delivering the court&rsquo;s judgment, emphasised that the original trial had been marred by serious legal and procedural missteps, leading the panel to conclude that Syed Saddiq should never have been convicted in the first place.
Flawed Trial and Misinterpretation of Evidence

Justice Noorin explained that the trial judge had erred significantly in assessing the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defence. In particular, she stated that the judge failed to consider key pieces of contradictory evidence and had accepted witness testimony that may have been made under duress from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
&ldquo;The learned trial judge did not fairly evaluate the defence and wrongly treated it as a mere denial,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;There was no element of dishonesty when Syed Saddiq instructed his staff to withdraw party funds, as he was legally entitled to do so at the time.&rdquo;
The court ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the core elements of the offences, particularly the intent required for criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation, and money laundering. According to the judgment, the failure to properly direct the trial and the misinterpretation of legal standards warranted full appellate intervention.
The Charges and What They Meant
Syed Saddiq, 32, had been convicted in 2023 on four charges:

<li>Abetting criminal breach of trust involving RM1 million from Bersatu Youth (ARMADA) funds;</li>
<li>Dishonestly misusing RM120,000 from a company linked to ARMADA, allegedly for personal use;</li>
<li>Two counts of money laundering, involving RM50,000 each, transferred into his Amanah Saham Bumiputera account.</li>

The High Court had ordered the sentences for CBT and misappropriation to run consecutively, meaning he faced seven years in jail. The money laundering convictions would have added an additional two years, running concurrently. Syed Saddiq&rsquo;s sentence also included two strokes of the rotan and a RM10 million fine. The sentence had been stayed pending the appeal.
Emotional Reactions in the Courtroom

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for restraint and compassion following a highly charged student protest at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), where a caricature of his face was burned during an anti-corruption rally. The protest, which reportedly attracted around 100 participants, lasted for 22 hours and aimed to draw attention to alleged corruption in Sabah, along with ongoing issues affecting students, including a water supply crisis on the UMS campus.
However, the act that made headlines was when two students set fire to a large placard bearing Anwar&rsquo;s caricature and the words: &ldquo;MADANI: Protector of Sabah corruption.&rdquo; The imagery and bold message sparked both condemnation and debate.
One of the organisers, final-year student Fadhil Kasim, later took responsibility for the act on social media, defending it as a symbolic gesture rooted in historical student activism.
Activism Echoes Anwar&rsquo;s Reformist Roots

In his statement, Fadhil invoked the legacy of Anwar Ibrahim himself &mdash; who, as a student leader in the 1970s, led similar acts of protest. He pointed to Anwar&rsquo;s involvement in burning a copy of 13 Mei, a book by Malaysia&rsquo;s first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, during a student demonstration over perceived injustices.
&ldquo;We were inspired by Anwar&rsquo;s own activism. Just as he once burned a book he believed undermined the truth, we burned his caricature to highlight betrayal and hypocrisy,&rdquo; Fadhil wrote. &ldquo;I&rsquo;d like to think Anwar, upon seeing the video, would be reminded of who he once was.&rdquo;
He also added that the outrage from Anwar's loyalists &mdash; including youth groups such as ABIM and AMK &mdash; missed the point, as they were more concerned with optics and reverence than the actual issues being raised.
UMS: Burning Was &lsquo;Immature and Uncivilised&rsquo;

UMS, however, has firmly condemned the act. Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor described the incident as &ldquo;uncivilised, immature, and unreflective of the intellectual standards expected of university students.&rdquo;
He confirmed that 13 students had been identified as participants in the protest, and two were directly involved in burning the caricature. The university indicated that disciplinary proceedings were being considered under the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU). A committee of academics would be established to review the matter and determine appropriate action, including possible suspension or expulsion.
Despite the criticism, the protest&rsquo;s central message appears to have struck a chord with many Malaysians disillusioned by the slow pace of anti-corruption efforts, particularly in East Malaysia.

Reports later surfaced that two student activists were detained in connection with the protest. This further intensified public scrutiny, with some quarters warning that criminalising student dissent could erode public trust in democratic institutions.
