There are a lot of tv series and dramas involving characters with special abilities as a means to give awareness to people. However, most of the time they are shown as side characters that need a lot of care and can&rsquo;t seem to achieve goals in their lives.
The recent 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' has been the talk of the town showing a young attorney with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who can deliver good claims in courts and give answers to complex cases unexpectedly.

It&rsquo;s an on-going Korean drama series that was released on 29 June, starring Park Eun Bin as the main character and other known actors like Kang Tae Oh, Kang Ki Yong and Joo Hyun Young.
This drama started their viewership ratings at 0.9% and managed to earn 13.1% of viewership rates for its latest episode and made it into Netflix's Top 10 global ranking for the most watched shows, in the non-English category.

This shows how people are getting more interested in the character of Woo Young Woo and how her life will continue to unfold in the drama.
Let&rsquo;s hear from one of the medical advisor of the series
Professor Kim Byung-gun who specialized in early childhood special education shares how he was intially reluctant to do the drama at first during an interview with KBS radio program last Friday.
Before he accepted the role as an advisor for the drama, he looked at the reality behind it and said; &ldquo;it's taken for granted if you describe autism well, while it would face much social backlash if you don't describe it well," said the professor.&rdquo;
But then after reading the script, he&nbsp; had a change of heart and was convinced that the drama is able portray Autism in a familiar and non-threatening manner.

This is considered a good approach in showing different aspects of the disorder. He also preaches that &ldquo;Change in social perspective is more important than institutional support (for autism spectrum disorder). We have to look at each other when we are approaching and we must have an understanding of what being 'different' is before anything else to make this possible."

However, can people with ASD really become a lawyer?

Well, there are few licensed attorneys with ASD in the US such as Hailey Moss from Florida. She was diagnosed with ASD at the age of 3 and was gifted with a photographic memory that helps convince the firms more.&nbsp;&nbsp;
However in Korea itself, none of the attorneys there had been diagnosed with ASD (as well as Malaysia).&nbsp;
Thankfully there were no discrimination spotted in the requirements and anyone who graduated from the 25 accredited law schools in Korea are eligible to take the bar exam to become an attorney there.
"Though it's not truly comparable, those who have a visual or auditory disability have been active as judges for over a decade. I believe an autistic attorney is possible too." said one of the show's advisors, Lawyer Shin Min Young.
So, it&rsquo;s not entirely impossible, it just needs a head start and this drama can be one of them :)
