Youth is a national asset that needs to be encouraged and challenged so that they can grow and develop. Talents and skills need to be utilized for it to be useful for the individuals, groups and the society as a whole.
Thus, this is what competition does, it makes us grow and see the results of our own abilities to plan and create something new.

The High Court has ordered a Threads user who was sued for defamation by Malaysian fashion entrepreneur Christy Ng to publish a public apology in two newspapers within four working days, after he told the court that he could not afford the publication costs.
Judge Arziah Mohamed Apandi directed J Vikneshvra Rau, 36, who operates the Threads account &ldquo;archnionverse&rdquo;, to publish an unconditional apology in English-language newspaper The Star and Malay-language newspaper Harian Metro. The wording must be acceptable to Ng and her company, Christy Ng Sdn Bhd.
The order was issued during committal proceedings over Rau&rsquo;s failure to comply with an earlier court direction. However, the judge declined to find that he had deliberately disobeyed the order, saying his explanation about his financial circumstances had merit.
What Happened in the Christy Ng Defamation Case?
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/62c2947f9dc637a083bbef1160ef85bb99574fa17cc500d32a2e876990fdf3b7" />
The dispute began after Rau allegedly published defamatory statements about Ng&rsquo;s business practices on Threads in November 2025. Ng and her company subsequently filed a civil suit against him on 25 November 2025, arguing that the statements had harmed their reputation.
On 13 February 2026, the High Court entered a judgment in default of appearance against Rau after he failed to appear in the proceedings. The court issued an injunction preventing him from publishing further defamatory statements and ordered him to issue a full-page, unconditional public apology in newspapers selected by Ng, as well as on his social media account.
Rau later published an apology on Threads on 19 March 2026. However, he did not publish the apology in the newspapers as required by the court order.
On 25 June, the High Court awarded total damages of RM180,000 to Ng and her company. Of this amount, RM140,000 was awarded to Ng personally, while RM40,000 went to Christy Ng Sdn Bhd. The court also ordered interest and legal costs, with RM10,000 in legal costs reported separately.
After Rau failed to fulfil the newspaper apology requirement, Ng and her company sought permission to initiate committal proceedings against him. The court granted permission on 15 September. Rau was scheduled to attend a hearing on 19 October but failed to appear, leading to further proceedings over his non-compliance.

Rau Says He Cannot Afford the Newspaper Apology
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b75519fe95bcfde98531bd09af608633a8c8b050289267e60a8e4c87f7c27b63" />
During the latest hearing, Rau told the court that he was willing to comply with the order but lacked the money to pay for the newspaper publication.
He explained that he was self-employed and earned money through resume-writing services, charging between RM150 and RM300 per job. According to his testimony, the income was only enough to cover basic expenses, including food and bills.
Rau told the court that his last recorded sale was on 13 October and that he had earned no income since then. He said he had only RM50 left in his Touch &rsquo;n Go eWallet, while his car loan and home loan repayments were more than four months overdue.
He also expressed concern that his home could be auctioned if he failed to keep up with the repayments. When questioned about his support network, Rau said his family had distanced themselves from him, his wife had left, and he no longer had friends he could rely on for assistance.
&ldquo;I have no income but I am willing to comply,&rdquo; he told the court, explaining that he did not have the means to pay for the newspaper apology.
However, Ng&rsquo;s lawyer, Foong Cheng Leong, challenged Rau&rsquo;s explanation. He argued that Rau had failed to comply with the court order and allegedly continued to mock Ng and publish false statements about her on social media.
Foong also pointed out that Rau had not filed an affidavit or supporting documents to substantiate his financial difficulties. He further said the RM180,000 damages awarded by the court had yet to be paid.
Court Gives Four Days to Publish the Apology
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/551748b1fc16b159e8462a5cca997929b2ca9e3da102a50fb33246b510d42a24" />
After hearing the parties, Judge Arziah said Rau had provided a detailed account of his financial commitments and that there was merit in his explanation.
The judge ruled that the plaintiffs had not proved beyond reasonable doubt that Rau&rsquo;s failure to comply amounted to deliberate contempt of court. She considered his non-compliance to have arisen from his financial circumstances and personal difficulties rather than an intentional refusal to obey the order.
Nevertheless, the original requirement to publish a public apology remains in force. Rau was ordered to prepare the statement immediately and publish it in The Star and Harian Metro within four working days, no later than 31 October. The wording must satisfy Ng and her company.
<blockquote id="ig-tp-DevQhCUgoqX" class="text-post-media" style="background: #FFF; border-radius: 16px; max-width: 650px; margin: 1px; min-width: 270px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px); border: 1px solid #00000026;" data-text-post-permalink="https://www.threads.com/@christyemilylove/post/DevQhCUgoqX" data-text-post-version="0">

<script async="" src="https://www.threads.com/embed.js"></script>

To address his inability to pay upfront, the court directed Ng to arrange and advance the publication costs. Rau must reimburse her once the amount is communicated to him. If he cannot pay, the publication costs will be added to the sums already ordered by the court.
The judge warned that Rau must return to court on 2 November if the apology is not published by the deadline. Further directions could include imprisonment or a fine.
Who Is Christy Ng?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/f49bd19113d5e6c904998475f1ee40df9b10ac93b4e44762bcea2102be2c0561" />
Christy Ng, whose full name is Christina Mei Mei Ng, is a Malaysian fashion entrepreneur and the founder of Christy Ng Sdn Bhd. She is known for building a fashion business and establishing a public profile through her entrepreneurial work and social media presence.
Ng has said the legal action concerns more than her personal reputation, pointing to the potential impact on her company and its employees. In previous comments, she said the disputed statements had reached international clients, including those in Indonesia and the Philippines, and had caused distress to her parents. She has framed the case as a responsibility to protect the business and the livelihoods of the people who depend on it.
The latest court order means Rau must still fulfil the newspaper apology requirement, despite the judge accepting that his financial difficulties may explain his earlier failure to comply. The case also highlights the importance of complying with court orders arising from online defamation disputes, even when the parties face difficult personal or financial circumstances.

Threads User Told to Apologise To Christy Ng In Newspapers Despite Claiming Financial Hardship

Malaysia&rsquo;s iconic Petronas Twin Towers have become an unexpected source of inspiration in India, where a spectacular replica resembling the Kuala Lumpur landmark has captured attention online.
The structure was created for the annual Durga Puja celebrations, a major Hindu festival dedicated to the goddess Durga. Featuring elaborate decorations, colourful LED lighting and intricate architectural details, the temporary pavilion recreates the appearance of the world-famous Malaysian skyscrapers.
Reports on the festival in Kalyanpur, Munger district, Bihar, put the construction budget at around 3 crore rupees, equivalent to approximately RM1.29 million based on an exchange rate of RM0.043 per rupee.
The project highlights how Malaysia&rsquo;s best-known architectural landmark continues to attract international recognition, even becoming the centrepiece of a religious and cultural celebration thousands of kilometres away.
A Mini KLCC Built for a Religious Celebration
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/c02301dcfd927853de46dc9ee5cefb7889f19ad95345d3d521532ff2380cce8d" />
The Petronas Twin Towers-inspired structure was selected as the main theme for this year&rsquo;s Durga Puja celebrations in Kalyanpur.
Rather than being a permanent skyscraper, the replica forms part of a temporary festival pavilion, commonly known as a pandal, built to accommodate religious ceremonies and welcome visitors throughout the festivities.
The elaborate design features decorative entrances, glass artwork, modern lighting systems and laser displays. Visitors are greeted by an artificial waterfall at the main entrance, adding to the spectacle before they enter the main area.
A special section inspired by a Victorian-style house has also been incorporated into the design, with a designated space for worship associated with Lord Shiva.
To bring the ambitious concept to life, skilled workers from West Bengal and Jharkhand were reportedly brought in to construct the main structure. Artists specialising in glass decoration from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh were also involved in creating the intricate details.
The result combines the recognisable silhouette of Malaysia&rsquo;s twin towers with traditional religious elements and contemporary visual effects.
A 52-Metre Structure Made From Temporary Materials
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/ec6f9204442c1f8632900b6a5ad843148410483d8bcd145567e646dbf7606bdc" />
Separate viral reports have also described a Petronas Twin Towers lookalike known as the Kalyanpur Twin Tower, measuring approximately 170 feet (52 metres) tall and 150 feet (46 metres) wide.
According to those reports, around 70 workers helped build the structure, which was assembled using temporary materials rather than the concrete and steel associated with permanent skyscrapers.
Bamboo, wooden poles, plywood, fabric, ropes and polystyrene sheets, also known as thermocol, were used to recreate the distinctive shape and tiered appearance of the original towers.
LED lighting was installed across the structure, illuminating its exterior after dark and making it particularly striking in photographs and videos shared on social media.
Although the details reported for the different structures vary, the designs demonstrate the considerable effort involved in recreating an internationally recognised landmark using temporary festival construction techniques.
Durga Puja Tradition Spanning More Than 363 Years
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/059ee41b731e8609e6e9bf06bb3d39bd1eb58aea7134d4225f06d9eb216fd25c" />
Beyond the architectural spectacle, the Durga Puja celebrations in Kalyanpur are rooted in a tradition reportedly dating back more than 363 years.
The annual event remains an important occasion for the local community, bringing together worshippers and visitors from neighbouring areas.
Organisers expect more than 100,000 devotees and visitors to attend this year's celebrations, with people travelling from districts including Bhagalpur, Banka, Khagaria, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Begusarai and Purnia.
Dr Nitish Dubey, managing director of Hariom Homeo and a homeopathic practitioner, expressed appreciation for the community's continued support in organising the festival.
The celebrations are not limited to religious ceremonies. Visitors can also look forward to cultural performances featuring well-known regional entertainers, including Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, singer Kalpana Patowary and folk singer Bharat Sharma.
With large crowds expected, organisers have arranged four designated exits to help manage visitor movement. Local residents and members of the Kalyanpur Youth Club are also assisting with crowd management and safety throughout the event.
From Hawa Mahal and the Meenakshi Amman Temple to the Petronas Twin Towers
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3a154ff6a5970e686bf0446f07d72d6ba0b3063c952fc69587b43a216d4794f6" />
The Malaysian-inspired design continues a tradition of recreating famous architectural landmarks that has become a major feature of the festival in recent years.
Since 2021, organisers have selected increasingly ambitious themes, with reported construction budgets rising alongside the scale of the projects.
Previous designs include Hawa Mahal in Jaipur in 2021, followed by a Taj Hotel-inspired structure in 2022 and the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Tamil Nadu in 2023.
The festival then looked beyond India, featuring a Burj Khalifa-inspired design in 2024 and a Wat Arun-inspired structure based on the Bangkok landmark in 2025.
For 2026, the Petronas Twin Towers were chosen as the central inspiration, with the reported budget reaching 3 crore rupees, or approximately RM1.29 million.
This progression reflects the organisers' ambition to create increasingly elaborate attractions while giving visitors a different architectural theme to experience each year.
Malaysia's Iconic Landmark Captures International Attention
The replica has attracted attention on social media, with users expressing surprise at seeing a structure resembling the Petronas Twin Towers outside Malaysia.
Some welcomed the recognition of the country's best-known landmark, while others joked that the resemblance was so convincing that people might mistake the temporary pavilion for the real KLCC.
Beyond the online reactions, the project demonstrates how recognisable architecture can cross national and cultural boundaries. A landmark associated with Malaysia's modern identity has been reinterpreted as part of a longstanding Indian religious celebration.
While the replica is temporary and differs considerably from the original towers in construction and purpose, its elaborate design has given the Petronas Twin Towers another international spotlight.
For visitors attending Durga Puja, the structure offers more than a photo opportunity. It forms part of a celebration that brings together faith, craftsmanship, community participation and a shared appreciation for striking architecture.

India Builds RM1.29 Million Petronas Twin Towers Replica For Durga Puja Festival

Apple has unveiled its redesigned iPad mini for 2026, bringing an 8.5-inch OLED display, the A20 Pro chip and IP67-rated dust and water resistance to its smallest tablet.
The new model replaces the 2024 iPad mini, which features an 8.3-inch LCD screen and an A17 Pro chip. Alongside its display and performance upgrades, the 2026 version is thinner and lighter, adds a redesigned audio system and supports newer wireless standards.
These changes come with a higher price. In Malaysia, the new iPad mini starts at RM2,999 for the 128GB Wi-Fi model, RM800 more than the previous generation&rsquo;s original starting price of RM2,199.

Apple Education Pricing starts at RM2,779 for eligible students and educators. Nano-texture glass, designed to reduce glare, is available for the 256GB and 512GB models for an additional RM400.
The iPad mini continues to support Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C. Apple&rsquo;s new TechWoven Smart Folio is also available separately for RM349.
Larger 8.5-Inch OLED Display
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3dece58b54e2bd066b035bb4552d51b15de8aa9592ea2dd1bdd40a72de1317c8" />
The biggest change is the switch from an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina LCD to an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. OLED allows deeper blacks and stronger contrast, with a stated contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1.
Brightness reaches up to 600 nits for standard content and 1,200 nits for HDR highlights. The display can also dim to one nit in darker environments. Apple says slimmer bezels&mdash;reduced by around 24%&mdash;make the larger screen possible without increasing the tablet&rsquo;s overall footprint.
However, the display still has a 60Hz refresh rate and does not support Apple&rsquo;s ProMotion technology, which offers refresh rates up to 120Hz on iPad Pro models.
Thinner Design and IP67 Water Resistance
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/63319c273f612b867ecbd93ad11a260595a148a889a520a7cb5eca86c423b037" />
The new iPad mini measures 195.3mm tall, 132.6mm wide and 5.4mm thick. The Wi-Fi model weighs 255g, while the Wi-Fi + 5G version weighs 263g, making both lighter than their predecessors.
It is also the first iPad with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating. Under controlled test conditions, IP67 means the device is dust-tight and can withstand immersion in freshwater up to one metre deep for 30 minutes. Water resistance can diminish over time, and liquid damage is not covered by Apple&rsquo;s warranty.
Apple has also introduced an Acoustic Display audio system. Specially designed woofers direct sound through the display, while tweeters hidden between the glass and aluminium enclosure are intended to provide clearer high frequencies. The design helps eliminate conventional speaker openings.
A20 Pro Chip and AI Performance
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/43ef8e6b3a5801fcac08869715cbe689bdcccc9080da8f1a677a357bee64e8ec" />
The tablet is powered by Apple&rsquo;s A20 Pro chip, also used in the latest iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple claims up to 60% faster multi-threaded CPU performance and up to 2.7 times faster graphics than the previous iPad mini. It also reports up to 4.5 times faster AI performance for certain tasks.
The chip supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and Neural Accelerators in each GPU core. Specifications vary by storage: the 128GB and 256GB models have a five-core CPU, seven-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. The 512GB model gets a six-core CPU and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, with the same seven-core GPU.
The tablet runs iPadOS 27 and supports Apple Intelligence. It retains Touch ID in the top button and a USB-C port.
Wi-Fi 7, 5G and Camera Changes
Apple&rsquo;s N1 wireless chip adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support. Cellular models use the C2 modem for 5G connectivity.
The 12MP Center Stage front camera has moved to the landscape edge, making it better positioned for video calls when the tablet is held horizontally. The rear 12MP camera supports 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second, along with Smart HDR 4 and an Adaptive True Tone flash.
Charging and Battery Life
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b7df854f91f2d4fda534eda8867d861083fcce26c7dede24cb197a84458da503" />
Apple says the new iPad mini can charge to 50% in around 30 minutes when connected to a compatible 35W or higher USB-C power adapter. However, the box includes a 20W adapter and a USB-C charging cable.
Battery life remains rated at up to 10 hours of web browsing or video playback.
A Significant Upgrade at a Higher Price
The 2026 iPad mini brings a larger OLED screen, faster performance, a lighter body and dust and water resistance to Apple&rsquo;s compact tablet range. It also retains support for Apple Pencil accessories and introduces updated connectivity.
However, its higher starting price and 60Hz display may give some buyers pause. Malaysian customers can pre-order the tablet from 29 October, with retail availability beginning on 6 November 2026.

A Malaysian developer has created a free navigation platform called Lapan as an alternative to TuJu, following frustration over technical issues affecting the government-promoted navigation app.
Developed by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/341871730272007?multi_permalinks=1866387081153790&amp;hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen">Alan Chung</a>, Lapan is a browser-based mapping service featuring 2D and 3D map views, suggested routes, alternative journeys and live traffic information. Users can access it without downloading an application or registering an account.
The project comes amid renewed debate over Malaysia's navigation apps after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim encouraged motorists to consider locally developed alternatives to Waze, citing data security concerns.
Although Lapan offers several useful features, it remains an early-stage project with limitations that could affect its reliability for everyday driving.
Lapan Is a Playful Rival to TuJu
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/60f9c83702cb50d177e0ea0d6a83bbaf6c0981ed4e5d554c631c3228609728b5" />
The name Lapan is a tongue-in-cheek reference to TuJu, with lapan meaning eight in Malay, following tujuh, or seven.
Chung developed the platform after becoming frustrated with TuJu's technical disruptions. Rather than simply voicing his complaints, he decided to build an alternative that motorists could access directly through their web browsers.
Its browser-based design means users can try the service without installing software. The lack of mandatory registration may also appeal to those who prefer not to create another account for navigation.
However, not requiring an account does not automatically guarantee complete anonymity. Users should still review the platform's privacy practices before relying on it for regular journeys.
Live Traffic Updates and Toll Calculator
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/5ac8fdaa6c56855cf0ee7aa54725bee8e9353c18dbd2be0e17d3d1ffe1994823" />
Despite being an independent project, Lapan already includes several features commonly found in established navigation services.
Users can request a suggested route and compare it with an alternative journey. The suggested route also supports live traffic information provided by TomTom, helping the platform incorporate traffic conditions into its navigation offering.
Using an established traffic-data provider allows a small project to offer useful functionality without having to develop an entire real-time traffic network independently.
Lapan also features a toll calculator, which could benefit Malaysian motorists travelling through toll roads in the Klang Valley or between states.
However, the tool appears to require manual input, with users selecting their expected toll entry and exit points instead of having charges calculated automatically from their chosen route. Integrating toll estimates directly into route planning would make the feature more convenient.
Lapan Still Has Navigation Limitations
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/d1761dcb12756156e03741f74aa42f17cabc88773a617098c280688729fe15b8" />
Despite its promising features, Lapan is not yet a fully developed replacement for established navigation platforms.
One reported issue involves destination searches. When users manually enter certain starting points or destinations instead of selecting locations from the available search results, the system may fail to generate a route.
Some locations and points of interest are also missing from its database, potentially making it difficult to navigate to less prominent destinations or find specific businesses and landmarks.
Comprehensive location coverage is a major challenge for any navigation service. Established platforms have spent years building and updating databases containing addresses, roads, businesses and other points of interest.
Chung reportedly tested Lapan himself before releasing it, but there is no indication that it has undergone extensive testing with a large group of users. Improving destination searches, location coverage and route calculations will be important if the platform is to become a dependable everyday navigation tool.
Could AI-Assisted Development Have Helped Build Lapan?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b6174e7925db10471731a23b827146fdbcfd144e448dff603a3e000d87245609" />
Lapan's rapid development highlights the growing accessibility of AI-assisted coding, commonly known as vibecoding. This approach involves using artificial intelligence tools and natural-language prompts to generate, modify or troubleshoot code.
Lapan's interface has been described as resembling patterns commonly associated with AI-generated applications. However, its development process has not been independently established, so the extent to which Chung used AI tools remains unclear.
Regardless, the project demonstrates how existing mapping services and modern development tools can help individuals turn ideas into working prototypes relatively quickly.
There is nothing inherently wrong with using AI to build software. These tools can lower barriers for aspiring developers and make experimentation more accessible.
However, producing a functioning prototype is different from building a reliable service for widespread use. Navigation platforms require accurate location data, dependable route calculations and consistent performance, as errors can inconvenience motorists and potentially create safety risks.
No Dedicated Android or iOS App Yet
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3c7578faeacedff6a1c4652dcc7b38f678215ab38be6b579c218f55737bff43c" />
Lapan currently operates through a <a href="https://lapan-malaysia.com/">web browser</a>, with no dedicated Android or iOS application announced at the time of reporting.
Its web-based approach allows users to access the service without downloading software, while enabling the developer to maintain one main platform.
A dedicated mobile application could eventually offer better smartphone integration and more reliable handling of location services. However, Chung has not confirmed whether native mobile versions are planned.
For now, Lapan's future will depend on continued development, user interest and the resources available to maintain it.
TuJu's Problems Spark Debate Over Local Navigation Apps
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/942d32cede57383d0150c937bbf0971ad2ea24c03d418a4cc5de7b5184e02b20" />
Lapan arrives as TuJu faces greater public scrutiny following the government's encouragement for Malaysians to consider local navigation alternatives.
Developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd, TuJu provides navigation alongside highway-related information, including toll rates, selected CCTV feeds and rest and recreation area details.
However, the application experienced technical disruptions following a surge in users after the government promoted it as an alternative to Waze. Its navigation function was temporarily affected while technical work was carried out.
The government has cited concerns about Waze's data handling and legal jurisdiction. The restriction applies to civil servants using Waze for official duties, rather than constituting a nationwide ban on public use.
Against this backdrop, Lapan offers another option in Malaysia's evolving navigation landscape. However, motorists should assess its route accuracy and coverage before depending on it for important journeys.
Ultimately, the project demonstrates how individual developers can respond to public frustration with practical alternatives. Whether Lapan can grow into a more comprehensive navigation service will depend on how effectively its current limitations are addressed.

Malaysian Developer Creates Free Lapan Navigation App After TuJu Faces Technical Issues

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has warned foreign countries against &ldquo;insulting&rdquo; Indonesia over its recurring forest and land fires, as the country faces mounting pressure over transboundary haze, financial market concerns and potential energy export restrictions.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on 21 October, Prabowo said Indonesia would not accept what he viewed as disrespect from other countries. He also threatened to expose companies responsible for the fires and revoke permits belonging to businesses found to have broken the law.
The remarks come as Indonesia confronts several issues that could strain its regional relationships and investor confidence.
Haze Crisis Puts Pressure on Indonesia
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/4693c5bf4379552d32f1f545f1c89b4ebfb2cd3cdaad4e09d42a40858d0185df" />
More than 1.9 million hectares of land were reportedly affected by fires in the nine months to September, according to Nusantara Atlas. The fires have been linked to dry conditions associated with El Ni&ntilde;o, slash-and-burn land clearing and drained peatlands, which can make fires difficult to extinguish.
Smoke from the fires has affected communities in Indonesia and contributed to haze across neighbouring countries, including Malaysia, Singapore and Timor-Leste. The recurring problem has raised concerns about public health, environmental damage and regional cooperation.
Indonesian authorities are reportedly investigating 98 corporations in connection with the fires. However, the investigations do not mean every company has been found responsible, with any legal or regulatory action dependent on the evidence gathered.
Malaysia and Singapore have offered assistance to help Indonesia tackle the fires. Jakarta, however, has maintained that it is capable of managing the situation itself.
Prabowo&rsquo;s threat to revoke permits signals a potential focus on enforcement, although its effectiveness will depend on whether authorities identify those responsible and take meaningful action.
Residents Take Legal Action Over Haze
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/e32859b784de5b2441990407b5b3da45f975eebd1317712d76c6110e4cf26ee9" />
The crisis has also prompted legal action within Indonesia. A court hearing in Pontianak is considering a lawsuit brought by residents who accuse the state of negligence in responding to the haze. The suit names Prabowo and 26 other officials.
The case highlights the domestic consequences of recurring fires, as affected residents seek accountability for the harm caused by smoke pollution. It also puts pressure on the government to demonstrate that it is protecting communities and enforcing environmental regulations.
While Prabowo&rsquo;s remarks suggest businesses could face consequences, identifying companies, establishing legal responsibility and preventing future fires remain separate steps requiring transparent investigations and consistent enforcement.
MSCI Raises Concerns Over Indonesia&rsquo;s Financial Market
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/398c07d0b6841fdf1df19ffa23a70dbd70bae9c2b647bcec9208c77bf46e307b" />
Indonesia is also facing scrutiny from global index provider MSCI, which has proposed considering a reclassification of the country from an emerging market to a standalone market in 2027.
The proposal follows concerns about share ownership transparency, suspicious trading activity and the effectiveness of market oversight. A change in classification could affect how international investors assess or access Indonesian equities, although no final decision has been made.
Prabowo has said Indonesia is not afraid of the prospect. Nevertheless, the announcement has added to market uncertainty. Reports said a two-day sell-off wiped approximately US$82 billion (RM347 billion) from the market&rsquo;s value.
Although separate from the haze crisis, the market concerns have placed Indonesia under further scrutiny over accountability and governance. Addressing MSCI&rsquo;s concerns would require credible improvements in transparency and supervision, rather than statements of defiance alone.
Indonesia Raises Possibility of Energy Export Restrictions
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/aa5ee5f90523a8347669ca35b1161eba59462d6d58fdb42716b04ab49353316c" />
Indonesia&rsquo;s energy policy has added another dimension to the tensions. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the country could stop exports to countries that disrespect Indonesia and might not renew existing gas export contracts.
He did not identify which countries could be affected. Indonesia supplies natural gas to several markets, including Japan, China, Singapore and South Korea. Singapore&rsquo;s gas supply contracts with Indonesia are due to expire at the end of 2028, making future negotiations important for both sides.
The comments do not confirm that exports will be halted. Any decision would need to account for contractual obligations, commercial interests and wider diplomatic consequences. Using energy supplies as leverage could create uncertainty for buyers while affecting Indonesia&rsquo;s reputation as a reliable supplier.
Multiple Challenges Require Different Solutions
Prabowo&rsquo;s warning comes as Indonesia faces pressure on several fronts: recurring fires affecting neighbouring countries, a lawsuit over the government&rsquo;s response, questions about financial market transparency and uncertainty surrounding future energy exports.
These issues share broader questions of accountability and public trust, but each requires a different response. The haze crisis calls for effective fire prevention, transparent investigations and action against proven offenders. MSCI&rsquo;s concerns require stronger market disclosure and oversight, while energy diplomacy will depend on how Indonesia balances national interests with its commitments to trading partners.
Indonesia has pushed back against what it considers disrespectful outside criticism. However, easing tensions will depend not only on defending its sovereignty, but also on demonstrating measurable progress on the issues raising concern at home and abroad.

Prabowo Warns Countries Against Insulting Indonesia As Haze Crisis and MSCI Downgrade Threaten Relations

Malaysia has recorded its highest-ever score in the Economic Freedom of the World index since it was introduced in 1970, although the country has slipped two places in the global rankings as other economies made faster progress.
According to the Center for Market Education (CME), Malaysia scored 7.57 out of 10 in the Economic Freedom of the World: 2026 Annual Report, improving slightly from 7.55 previously. Despite the record score, Malaysia fell from 33rd to 35th place among 165 countries and jurisdictions assessed.
In a statement issued on Monday, 19 October, the think tank said Malaysia's economic freedom had improved considerably since the beginning of the century. However, it warned that the latest ranking should not be a reason for complacency, particularly as other countries continue to implement reforms at a faster pace.
Malaysia Remains ASEAN's Second-Freest Economy
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/8afca5035a0d0b9972cef6b39abed3b1b25a2242bcf4ad10b2ed6e72a6f3234c" />
Despite its decline in the global rankings, Malaysia remains the second-freest economy in ASEAN, trailing only Singapore, which secured third place worldwide with a score of 8.43.
Malaysia continues to rank ahead of several regional economies, including Thailand in 57th place, Brunei and the Philippines in joint 61st place, and Indonesia in 72nd place.
Globally, Hong Kong topped the index with a score of 8.53, followed by Switzerland, Singapore, New Zealand and the United States.
Malaysia's score is also above the regional average of 6.99, indicating that the country's overall economic freedom remains relatively strong compared with its regional counterparts.
Nevertheless, the two-place drop highlights the difference between improving a country's own performance and keeping pace with other economies. Although Malaysia achieved a higher score, other countries made sufficient progress to overtake it in the rankings.
Malaysia's Economic Freedom Has Recovered Since the Asian Financial Crisis
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/f5efc3d20acd87b90e8ec65ca8a5facac8f825db5aaf4bd93400351a81f384e5" />
The CME noted that Malaysia has made considerable progress since the economic difficulties experienced during the Asian financial crisis.
According to the report, Malaysia scored 6.99 and ranked 36th in 1995 before its score fell to 6.12 in 2002 following the financial crisis, capital controls and policy disruptions.
The country's position deteriorated further, reaching 97th place in 2009. However, Malaysia has gradually improved its standing since then, reflecting its longer-term progress in economic freedom.
The latest score of 7.57 marks its strongest performance since the index was established, suggesting that Malaysia has made significant gains over the decades despite facing economic and policy challenges along the way.
The improvement also reinforces Malaysia's position as one of Southeast Asia's more economically open economies, although the latest ranking suggests there is still room for further reform.
Government Ownership Remains a Key Concern
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/f4d57510cb73caddb9a44fc4b7cd4032798a83df8448a27e7035f76a4597605b" />
CME chief executive officer Dr Carmelo Ferlito said Malaysia's monetary stability and relatively flexible labour market remained important strengths supporting its economic performance.
However, he warned that the government's extensive involvement in commercial activities continued to present a challenge.
According to Ferlito, government-linked companies (GLCs) and state-owned banks account for a substantial state presence in the economy, which he described as among the heaviest in the world.
He also raised concerns about public administration, stating that it had become less impartial since 2019.
While the country's record score is encouraging, Ferlito stressed that Malaysia should not become complacent as other economies continue to advance their economic reforms.
His comments highlight the ongoing debate over the role of government in the economy, particularly the balance between state participation, private-sector competition and market efficiency.
What Malaysia Needs to Do to Reach the Global Top 20
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/d231982ee21843486056da568c1d7911fcbe2fe9c0aefaf186ab4678a4075298" />
Ferlito said Malaysia would need to pursue further structural reforms if it hopes to break into the world's top 20 economies in the economic freedom rankings.
Among the measures he identified were reducing state ownership in the economy, ensuring that the civil service operates according to clear rules and remains impartial, simplifying the country's tariff structure, and opening markets to greater competition.
Reducing barriers to competition could help create more opportunities for private businesses, while clearer and more impartial public administration could support a more predictable business environment.
Simplifying tariffs could also make trade arrangements easier to navigate, potentially improving market access for businesses and investors.
However, the proposed changes would require sustained policy efforts rather than relying solely on incremental improvements in the country's overall score.
Record Score Shows Progress, But More Reforms Are Needed
Malaysia's latest economic freedom score represents a milestone, reflecting its recovery from the setbacks experienced in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis and its subsequent improvement over the years.
Nevertheless, its fall to 35th place globally serves as a reminder that maintaining competitiveness requires continued progress as other countries strengthen their own economic policies.
With Malaysia still ranked second in ASEAN, the country has a relatively strong regional position. The challenge now is to translate that standing into further improvements in economic openness, market competition and public administration.
As highlighted by CME, reaching the global top 20 will require Malaysia to address the role of state-owned entities, strengthen impartial governance and create greater opportunities for competition.
Whether Malaysia can climb higher in future editions of the index will depend not only on maintaining economic stability, but also on how effectively it implements the reforms needed to keep pace with the rest of the world.

Ryt Bank customers can now make contactless payments using their Apple devices, following the launch of Apple Pay support for the bank&rsquo;s Ryt Card on 6 October 2026. The update allows customers to add their card to Apple Wallet and pay in stores, online and through supported apps without needing to take out their physical card.
With this addition, Ryt Bank becomes the first digital bank in Malaysia to support both Apple Pay and Google Pay. The bank introduced Google Pay support in January 2026, giving Android users access to mobile payments before extending the service to Apple users.
The latest update offers customers more flexibility in how they pay for everyday purchases, from buying groceries and grabbing coffee to shopping online. It also introduces another convenient way to make payments while benefiting from the security features built into Apple Pay.
How Apple Pay Makes Everyday Payments More Convenient
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/a06634d7f0de0d8f8ba130a5be85cd48b0017e061d6bbdda0e8e0a4cec6d2fdf" />
Apple Pay allows customers to use compatible devices, including iPhones and Apple Watches, to make contactless payments at participating merchants. Instead of carrying a physical card, users can simply authenticate their payment on their device and hold it near a compatible payment terminal.
The service also works for online purchases and in-app transactions at supported merchants, allowing users to complete payments without repeatedly entering their card details.
For customers who frequently use contactless payments, adding a card to Apple Wallet can make everyday transactions quicker and more convenient. It is particularly useful when heading out without a wallet, as payments can be made directly through a compatible Apple device.
Customers who use Android devices can continue to access Google Pay with their Ryt Card, meaning Ryt Bank now supports both major mobile wallet platforms.
Apple Pay Security Features Protect Your Card Details

Beyond convenience, Apple Pay includes security measures designed to protect users&rsquo; payment information.
Each transaction must be authenticated through Face ID, Touch ID or the device&rsquo;s passcode, helping ensure that payments are authorised by the device&rsquo;s owner.
Apple Pay also uses a device-specific account number and a unique security code for each transaction, rather than sharing the actual card number with merchants. Apple states that card numbers are not stored on its servers, adding another layer of protection when customers make payments.
If an iPhone is lost or misplaced, users can also use Apple&rsquo;s Find My service to mark the device as lost and suspend Apple Pay on it.
However, users should still protect their devices with a secure passcode and keep their banking applications updated.

Ryt Bank Adds Apple Pay Support, Becoming Malaysia’s First Digital Bank To Offer Apple Pay And Google Pay

Malaysians can now access a new savings and protection plan directly through ShopeePay following an expanded partnership between ShopeePay Malaysia and Zurich Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad (ZLIMB).
The new Zurich Savings &amp; Protection Plan combines savings with life and disability protection, giving users a way to build their financial future while receiving additional coverage. The two-year plan currently starts from a single premium of RM500, with the minimum entry amount set to be lowered to RM100 in the near future.
The partnership was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur on 7 October 2026 under the theme &ldquo;Everyday Protection, Made For All&rdquo;, marking the first time ShopeePay's digital distribution partnership with Zurich has extended to its life insurance business.
What Does The Zurich Savings &amp; Protection Plan Offer?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/02d8fdee262be6b2445a734c559a9c007eed48e7b28876a54e5e86c1b9cf1734" />
The Zurich Savings &amp; Protection Plan is a two-year, single-premium endowment plan designed to combine savings growth with life protection.
One of its key features is guaranteed cash payouts every six months, allowing policyholders to receive regular payments throughout the two-year period. The plan also provides life and disability protection equivalent to 105% of the premium paid, with the benefit payable to the policyholder or beneficiaries according to the terms of the policy.
At the end of the two-year maturity period, policyholders receive 100% principal protection, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
There are also flexible early cash-out options for those who may need access to their money before the plan reaches maturity. However, the amount received through an early cash-out may differ from the maturity benefit, so customers should review the relevant terms before purchasing.
How To Purchase The Plan On ShopeePay
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/8d9b3b8f382f3a162388fedb4e0ec88f82a040875e60c04fc2328acdf87b31af" />
The Zurich Savings &amp; Protection Plan is available directly through the ShopeePay app, allowing users to access the product digitally without having to visit an insurance branch.
To find the plan, users can open the ShopeePay app and select &ldquo;Insurance&rdquo; from the homepage, followed by &ldquo;Endowment&rdquo;.
The launch expands ShopeePay's existing relationship with Zurich. The platform already works with Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Berhad and Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad, but this is the first time its digital distribution partnership has extended to Zurich's life insurance arm.
It also builds on the earlier availability of Zurich Critical Illness insurance through the platform.
Entry Premium To Be Lowered To RM100
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/41239d4b6ec3e4396504fea8aac52d5404aaf336d4b389c532e5e6030b04823c" />
The plan currently requires a minimum premium of RM500, but Zurich and ShopeePay are planning to reduce this to RM100.
While the lower entry point has not yet been implemented, it could make the product more accessible to Malaysians who want to start building financial protection with a smaller initial commitment.
Both companies said the broader goal is to make insurance and financial protection more accessible through digital platforms that consumers already use in their everyday lives.
Junior Cho, Country CEO of Zurich Malaysia, highlighted that Malaysia's protection gap is closely linked to accessibility, saying insurers need to reach consumers where they already are rather than expecting them to seek out traditional channels.
Family Takaful Plans Coming Next Year
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/ce24b27f03d837ea0488d1e9954160c6552ede6a05201dc8e2d393731223dbe1" />
The partnership is also expected to expand into family takaful in 2027.
ShopeePay and Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad plan to introduce family takaful products through the platform, giving users access to Syariah-compliant protection alongside conventional insurance options.
Family takaful provides life and financial protection based on Syariah principles, offering Malaysians another option when planning for their long-term financial needs.

ShopeePay And Zurich Launch Two-Year Savings And Protection Plan From RM500

Only 39% of active Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members in Malaysia&rsquo;s formal sector are currently on track to meet the fund&rsquo;s Basic Savings benchmark by the age of 60, highlighting the challenge of ensuring Malaysians have enough money to support themselves throughout retirement.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the proportion of members meeting the age-based Basic Savings benchmark increased from 36% in June 2025 to 39% in June 2026.
While this represents progress, around six in 10 active formal-sector EPF members remain below the benchmark for their age.
The government is targeting for six in 10 EPF members to meet the Basic Savings benchmark by 2030 under the EPF&rsquo;s Retirement Income Adequacy (RIA) framework.
What Is The RM390,000 EPF Savings Target?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/094d4f6f9a830c467627a3083a59c1631eb6cf3f98094ae48e08266cbe4c034e" />
The RM390,000 figure is the EPF&rsquo;s full Basic Savings level under its three-tier Retirement Income Adequacy framework, which took effect in 2026.
The RIA framework is designed to give members a clearer guide to how much they may need for retirement. It consists of three savings levels:
<ul>
<li>Basic Savings: RM390,000</li>
<li>Adequate Savings: RM650,000</li>
<li>Enhanced Savings: RM1.3 million</li>
</ul>
Basic Savings is intended to cover essential retirement needs, while Adequate Savings aims to support a reasonable standard of living. Enhanced Savings represents a higher level of financial security in retirement.
According to EPF, RM390,000 is designed to support an initial monthly withdrawal of around RM1,625 in the first year of retirement, with the framework projecting withdrawals over 20 years from age 60 to 80.
The RM390,000 Benchmark Is Being Phased In
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/e6cb2d5631158eb97bdc73790e51aedeceee88bc865de1df4b151f201e1121f5" />
Although RM390,000 is the full Basic Savings benchmark at age 60, members are not expected to reach the amount immediately.
EPF is gradually introducing the target over five years to give members time to adjust to the higher savings benchmark.
The schedule is:
<ul>
<li>2026: RM270,000</li>
<li>2027: RM300,000</li>
<li>2028: RM330,000</li>
<li>2029: RM360,000</li>
<li>2030: RM390,000</li>
</ul>
The benchmark is also age-based, meaning members are assessed against the amount appropriate for their age rather than being expected to have RM390,000 at any point before the full target takes effect.
Why Retirement Savings Remain A Concern
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/52182c09071739d833d3baddd6f9a8a7636a9bb4cb4f46c70e3fa92d408bfb79" />
Anwar said the latest figures showed progress, but warned that too many Malaysians remain at risk of running out of savings during retirement.
With retirement potentially lasting 20 to 25 years, the issue is not simply accumulating a large lump sum but ensuring those savings can provide a sustainable income throughout retirement.
Speaking at the EPF International Social Wellbeing Conference 2026, Anwar also highlighted the financial pressures facing households today.
He said retirement planning cannot be viewed purely as a matter of financial literacy when many households are already dealing with immediate expenses such as food, rent and education.
This means the ability to save for retirement is closely linked to having sufficient and stable income. Retirement security therefore also depends on wages, decent employment and the ability to contribute consistently.
Informal And Gig Workers Remain Part Of The Challenge
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/379ead4e522887f28a70b190fe51084bd10ab1c9c743c7f4476279e7a5af34fe" />
Another challenge is extending retirement savings coverage to Malaysians working outside conventional formal employment.
The growth of self-employment, gig work and other non-traditional forms of employment means some workers may not receive regular employer contributions to their EPF accounts.
The government has introduced initiatives to broaden coverage, including i-Saraan, which provides incentives for eligible self-employed and informal workers who contribute to EPF.
There is also i-Saraan Plus, which provides additional support for eligible e-hailing and p-hailing workers, while i-Suri has been expanded to support retirement savings among women involved in unpaid care work.
These programmes aim to encourage more Malaysians outside traditional employment to build retirement savings.
EPF Shifts Focus From Savings To Retirement Income
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/dce895ff83854520641db177e2f062d4bde7a0b11c289be0f00857338c4e3ef9" />
EPF chairman Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said retirement planning should not focus solely on how much money members have accumulated. Instead, members need to consider how their savings can provide a sustainable income throughout retirement.
This approach is reflected in the RIA framework, which connects savings levels with potential retirement income rather than treating EPF savings simply as a lump sum. EPF has also introduced measures to help members manage their savings over a longer retirement period.
One is i-Emas, which provides regular monthly payments under the existing Age 55/60 Withdrawal facility. As of June 2026, more than 25,000 members had opted for monthly withdrawals, including more than 7,000 aged 55 and more than 19,000 aged 60.
Another initiative, i-Legasi, allows eligible members with savings above the RM650,000 Adequate Savings level to transfer eligible excess savings to the EPF accounts of immediate family members.
Government Expands Support For Older Malaysians
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/019711301cc9d428487370e4deba8a076a5d9bb64a1c4be910cb5006b512c012" /> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;
Retirement security is also being addressed beyond EPF savings.
Under Budget 2026, the government allocated RM1.26 billion for senior citizen welfare, with the funding expected to benefit around 180,000 older Malaysians through assistance and activity centres.
Anwar also highlighted the need for a more comprehensive care system for Malaysia&rsquo;s ageing population, covering community support, nutritious meals and home assistance, as well as day care, home nursing and residential care for older people who are frail or living with dementia.
He said access to essential care should be based on need rather than solely on an individual&rsquo;s ability to pay.
What The Latest EPF Figures Mean
The increase from 36% to 39% of active formal-sector EPF members meeting their age-based Basic Savings benchmark shows some improvement in retirement preparedness.
However, the figures also underline the scale of the challenge ahead.
The government aims to increase the proportion to 60% by 2030, while the full Basic Savings benchmark gradually reaches RM390,000 at age 60.
For EPF members, the RIA framework provides a clearer reference point for assessing whether their savings are keeping pace with their age and expected retirement needs.
Ultimately, retirement planning is not just about reaching a particular savings figure. It is also about ensuring Malaysians have sufficient income, savings and social support to sustain themselves through what could be decades of retirement.

Tencent has launched TenPayGo, a new mobile payment app designed to make it easier for international visitors to pay for goods, food and transport while travelling in China.
Developed by Tencent&rsquo;s Weixin Pay team, the app allows overseas travellers to link foreign-issued bank cards and selected international digital wallets without needing a Chinese mobile phone number.
The launch comes as China experiences growing inbound tourism, with Tencent looking to make its largely cashless payment ecosystem more accessible to international visitors. The app was unveiled at an international payment services event in Shenzhen, Guangdong, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders&rsquo; Meeting scheduled to take place in the city in November.
No Chinese Phone Number Required
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/7d0599429863e5bab45a105d5b644fd1af8df8f7ae1b3802bc5541ba89bf6b12" />
One of TenPayGo&rsquo;s main features is its simplified registration process for overseas users.
Instead of requiring a Chinese mobile number, travellers can sign up using an email address and link payment methods issued in their home countries. The app supports bank cards from seven major international card networks, including Visa and Mastercard, as well as Apple Pay and around 60 overseas digital wallets.
Supported wallets include services such as Starryblu, Hipay and Octopus. However, the current list does not include Malaysian e-wallets such as Touch &rsquo;n Go eWallet or Boost.
Once a payment method is connected, users can scan and pay through TenPayGo at tens of millions of shops, restaurants and attractions connected to Tencent&rsquo;s Weixin Pay network.
This gives international travellers another option for making everyday payments in China without having to set up a local payment account.
TenPayGo is Tencent&rsquo;s first mobile payment app specifically designed for international visitors. The company&rsquo;s existing Weixin Pay service is integrated into WeChat, or Weixin as it is known in mainland China, which combines messaging, social media and digital payments in a single platform.
TenPayGo Also Supports Shenzhen Public Transport
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/a282917f8fcf06b25ebf1862406d618bd5e1f2ce925dff22cd0438c612456543" />
Beyond shopping and dining, TenPayGo is also designed to help overseas visitors get around China.
The app currently allows international travellers to activate a ride code for Shenzhen&rsquo;s bus and metro networks directly from their smartphones. Users do not need a local phone number or a physical transport card to access the service.
The transport integration is currently focused on Shenzhen, although Tencent says it plans to gradually introduce more local transportation and lifestyle services through the platform.
The move could make TenPayGo particularly useful for visitors attending major events in the city, including the upcoming APEC summit.
Shenzhen, one of China&rsquo;s major technology hubs, will host the APEC Economic Leaders&rsquo; Meeting in November. It will be the third Chinese city to host the event, following Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014.
AI Translation And Travel Tools

Tencent is also positioning TenPayGo as more than just a payment app by incorporating tools aimed at helping international visitors navigate China.
One of its features provides instant menu translation, allowing travellers to use their smartphones to understand menus and order food more easily.
The app also includes an object-identification function that lets users scan and circle items on their screen to identify them, making it potentially useful when navigating unfamiliar surroundings.
Tencent has also said it is working with local banks on a tax-refund function. The planned feature is intended to support departure tax refunds for eligible overseas visitors, although details on its availability have yet to be announced.
Foreign Spending In China Is Rising
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/36aba044673be1b0f18d0a11dd2b3f5bf007c210edd1142d8124ada66ca7719c" />
The launch of TenPayGo comes as spending by international visitors in China continues to increase.
According to data from Weixin Pay, the value of transactions made by overseas e-wallet users in China rose by 80.6 per cent year-on-year during the first eight months of 2026. The number of transactions also increased by 81.8 per cent over the same period.
China has been seeking to attract more international visitors through measures including expanded visa-free travel arrangements and improvements to its tourism infrastructure.
Official figures cited by Xinhua showed that foreign nationals made nearly 61.29 million border crossings into and out of China between January and August 2026, representing a 19.5 per cent increase from the previous year. Visa-free entries accounted for 23.72 million of those crossings, up 26.8 per cent year-on-year.
The increase in international travel has also encouraged Chinese technology companies to expand support for overseas payment services.
Tencent has previously worked to connect international digital wallets to its payment network, allowing visitors to make purchases in China through payment services they already use at home.
In May, Tencent announced an integration with PayPal that allows eligible US travellers to make payments at Weixin Pay merchants in China through the PayPal app.
Tencent Looks To Make China Travel More Accessible
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/219c0bbebafbd5179522d93ed139cd072350f14cc5b7f9562dbb1a9579d589ea" />
TenPayGo represents another step in Tencent&rsquo;s efforts to bridge the gap between China&rsquo;s cashless payment ecosystem and international travellers.
Rather than requiring visitors to download WeChat or obtain a local Chinese phone number, the app brings payments, public transport and selected travel tools together in a platform specifically designed for overseas users.
Tencent has also said it will work with domestic online payment-clearing house NetsUnion to connect more overseas digital wallets to its payment network.
As international tourism to China continues to grow, TenPayGo could give foreign visitors a simpler way to pay for everyday expenses while also providing access to transport and travel-related services from a single smartphone.
