It's crucial to talk to girls early on to ensure they are prepared because although periods can begin as early as age 8, they often don't until they are about 12 years old.

Menstruation is the regular discharge of blood and mucosal tissue via the vagina from the inner lining of the uterus. It is also referred to as a period and by other colloquial names. Hormone fluctuations that occur during the menstrual cycle are distinctive. Falling progesterone levels cause menstruation, which is a sign that pregnancy has not yet happened.
In about more than 80% of cases, neither the period itself nor the days before it cause issues severe enough to interfere with daily life. Premenstrual syndrome refers to symptoms before menstruation that do interfere with daily life (PMS). 3-8% of women who have PMS endure severe symptoms and it affect 20-30% of women.&nbsp; These include mood swings, anger, bloating, fatigue, and painful breasts. Other signs and symptoms experienced by some women include painful periods, heavy menstrual bleeding, and unusual bleeding at any time during the menstrual cycle. When periods do not start by the age of 15 or have not started again in 90 days, this condition is referred to as amenorrhea.&nbsp;
Sounds painful right? This is why you should never mess with a woman when she is on her period. Lol!

Some girls may also be confused on whether to use pads or tampons?

Speaking of pads, Selangor is now the first state to provide free sanitary pads to the public as they seek to tackle period poverty.

Juwairiya Zulkifli, a Bukit Melawati assemblyperson, claimed that although the problem is not new, many are choosing not to discuss it further due to societal stigma.
Juwairiya believes that this action will not only benefit the receivers but it will help us voice up to the period poverty issue that we fail to address
&ldquo;Among the groups at risk of facing such a situation are women in rural areas, the urban poor, and the extreme poor.&rdquo; she emphasises
In addition, she noted that the lack of sanitary pads might restrict female students' participation in academic activities, which would impair learning.
One of the factors that contribute to dropouts is a student's decision not to attend class. Since they lack a period kit this may hinder daily activities for female students.
According to Juwairiya, a number of other nations have also introduced programmes like these. One such nation is South Korea, which has provided free sanitary towels in all public spaces since 2018. To combat menstruation poverty in Selangor, she also hopes that this programme can continue in the upcoming year with a larger budget. The funding is part of the RM2.45 billion state budget for 2023 that the&nbsp; Selangor Head State Of Governments, Amirudin Shari presented last week.
