In the past weeks, many restaurants nationwide have been practising and promoting the Menu Rahmah initiative. The program that was launched by the government is aimed specifically to assist the hardcore poor by providing lunch or dinner meals at an affordable price.&nbsp;

&nbsp;A full meal including a drink is priced at RM5 which aids many who currently facing the rising cost of living. However, despite how good of an initiative this is, some restaurant owners are not too keen on following the initiative.
Owner Forced To Stop Menu Rahmah
Recently @amrufateh on Twitter posted up a tweet of a restaurant owner at Bayan Lepas, Penang, who explained that he had been forced to shut down the menu Rahmah initiative as it had not worked out for his restaurant.

The owner, Fakhrul whose video was originally posted on TikTok <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@tongkayucafeoriginal/video/7208786549427703067">(@tongkayucafeoriginal</a>) explained that there were two reasons for the discontinuation. First was that due to economic factors and the lack of huge capital as he only owns an average restaurant. Secondly, the customer's response to the menu Rahmah offered was so poor that it led his restaurant to lose.
On his menu, he offered two different dishes, white rice with chicken cooked in soy sauce and white rice with turmeric fried chicken. He also added that he only prepared about 15 plates for each menu but they could not finish selling it.
&ldquo;I can no longer stand with it. We have had the menu for about two to three weeks already,&rdquo; said Fakhrul.
He also expressed that he hopes his customers would not condemn him over the decision as he was first high-spirited about the initiative till it started generating losses. At the time of writing this, his original video that was posted on TikTok has gained over 191.6K views.
Mixed Responses From Netizens
As the Menu Rahmah initiative was dubbed as a hit or miss for small food operators, many highlighted that operators have a choice to serve the menu and that they are not forced to do so.&nbsp;

In the past, Datuk Seri Rosli Sulaiman, the president of the Bumiputera Petty Traders Association, had also said that small stalls could face losses in the initial launch of the menu.

Despite some of the comments sounding pretty harsh, some of them do bring up a valid point that a small restaurant has the option to serve the menu, especially when they already know they are a small business.
