As a student, we often face struggles with cash flow. Buying food from outside has become too costly these days and the prices of groceries are skyrocketing. Thus, students often buy instant noodles to survive.
Little that we know, some noodles have issues of being recalled due to the detection of chemicals. When we hear such news about instant noodles having dangerous chemicals in them, it often scares us as it may affect our health and well-being. This makes it hard for students to survive on a daily basis as we often depend on instant noodles as our meal of the day.

Previously, the MOH ordered a voluntary recall of the Penang Ah Lai White Curry Noodle product from the Malaysian market for batches expiring on August 25, 2023, due to the presence of ethylene oxide in the product and the Indomie Special Chicken Flavoured Instant Noodles.
The MOH also directed that the Indomie Special Chicken Flavoured instant noodle product from Indonesia be held, tested, and released at all entry points into the country, and encouraged the company to voluntarily withdraw the affected items from the market.
Ethylene oxide is a carcinogenic chemical gas that is commonly used in insecticides. It is also an active ingredient in detergents, which cannot be used on food-contact surfaces.
Recently, the two instant noodles, Penang Ah Lai White Curry Noodle, and Indomie Special Chicken Flavoured Instant Noodles, that were ordered to be recalled due to ethylene oxide discovery, have been determined to be safe for eating and to comply with the prescribed legislation.
Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, director-general of health, confirmed this based on the laboratory analysis of samples of the two varieties of instant noodles.

"For imported food, the Health Ministry (MOH) implements six levels of inspection based on risk at the country's entry points."
"For Level 5 inspection, which is Hold, Test, and Release (TUL), food products entering the country will be held and analyzed first, and only food products that comply with the standards are released for the Malaysian market," he said in a statement today.
He stated that from 2022 through April of this year, a total of 317 TUL samplings were conducted, with 37 (11.67%) of the total being TUL sampling instant noodle products of various brands for ethylene oxide characteristics.
Dr Muhammad Radzi further stated that the MOH will work with the companies responsible to ensure that non-compliant products are removed from the market.
