For avid movie enthusiasts, two genres often rise above the rest: Horror and Sci-Fi. These genres captivate audiences with their mesmerizing cinematography and enthralling soundtracks, such as the iconic compositions by Hans Zimmer in the Oscar-winning film, Inception.
However, an ongoing debate in the cinematic world revolves around the question of which franchise reigns supreme: Star Wars or Star Trek. While both franchises boast their own merits, it may be time to explore a new cinematic endeavour by acclaimed American director Zack Snyder.

For those unfamiliar with Zack Snyder, he is a filmmaker known for his distinctive visual style, creative storytelling and is most well known for his superhero genre movies such as Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Superman. For a while now, Snyder has pretty much helped shape the DC Movies making the franchise gain more traction over their competitors, Marvel Studios who are very well known for their superhero movies as well.

Zack Snyder, known for his admiration of Star Wars and the legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, recently unveiled his latest project, Rebel Moon. Originally conceived as a Star Wars film pitch to Lucasfilm, Rebel Moon combines elements from both iconic franchises. Empire magazine shared exclusive first-look images of the upcoming sci-fi movie, set to stream on Netflix. One striking image features a woman brandishing dual red blades, evoking the Sith from the Star Wars universe. Get ready for an epic cinematic experience that pays homage to beloved sci-fi classics.

During the time Zack Snyder made his pitch for Rebel Moon, the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney had just taken place, creating a window of uncertainty and possibilities. His intention was to create a film that diverged from the current original characters, allowing him to explore his own unique vision. However, the film's R-rating posed a challenge as Disney primarily focuses on appealing to a wider and younger audience, making it a non-starter for them.
Fast forward a decade later, Snyder decided to bring his imaginative vision to life. Rebel Moon is a captivating space opera that revolves around a young woman residing in a tranquil colony on the outer edges of the galaxy. Tasked with assembling a group of warriors to defend against an imminent invasion by the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, she embarks on a thrilling journey. Initially planned as a standalone project, Snyder's ambitious nature led to Rebel Moon being picked up by Netflix, resulting in two movies that will be presented in different formats. In fact, he wasn&rsquo;t kidding when he said he had big plans as he&rsquo;s already penned a 450-page &lsquo;bible&rsquo; which details all kinds of lore and backstories alongside an extensive timeline that tells the stories that took place before and after the film.
Who Will Be In The Movie &amp; When Will It Release?

For the cast, there&rsquo;s quite a range of actors such as Sofia Boutella who starred in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Ray Fisher who starred in Justice League, Charlie Hunnam who was the lead for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword as well as many others like Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Staz Nair and Michiel Huisman.
For now, Rebel Moon is set to release on Netflix on 22 December 2023 and it says there will be a limited theatrical release that is still currently being planned out. Before you mention it, yes there are also plans for a Snyder cut version which will be longer in playtime and with more R-rated themes on its way.
Looks like Star Wars will have something to fight for its money. Though, there&rsquo;s no doubt that the recent series from Star Wars has been pretty good and many are now anticipating the release of <a href="https://myc.my/articles/2543/star-wars-ahsoka-set-to-premier-this-23-august-on-disney">Ahsoka</a> on 23 August and <a href="https://myc.my/articles/2433/andor-season-2-to-show-the-intense-build-up-before-star-wars-rogue-one">Andor Season 2</a> which is set to release on August 2024.

The Malaysian government is set to roll out a two-tier pricing system for RON95 fuel by mid-2025, utilising MyKad as the primary tool for determining subsidy eligibility. Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, confirmed that the system is in its final stages of development and is expected to be officially implemented in the second half of the year.
&ldquo;As I have answered multiple times in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, the mechanism is still being refined,&rdquo; Amir Hamzah stated. &ldquo;We do not want to pre-announce something while we are still working on it because the most important thing is to ensure that the system is robust.&rdquo;
Two-Tier Pricing: Who Will Benefit?

Under this new system, fuel prices will be divided into subsidised and non-subsidised rates. It is estimated that more than 85% of the Malaysian population will benefit from the subsidised rate, while higher-income groups&mdash;particularly those with a household income of RM12,000 and above&mdash;will be required to pay the market price.
The MyKad system will serve as the verification tool at petrol stations, ensuring that only eligible individuals receive the fuel subsidy. This approach aims to curb misuse and ensure subsidies reach those who genuinely need them, aligning with the government's broader economic reform efforts.
MyKad System Modelled After SARA Programme

This number is set to increase significantly to 5.4 million recipients by April 2025.
&ldquo;If we can use MyKad for 5.4 million recipients with 3,500 stores, it&rsquo;s not that different and we could also use the same system for RON95,&rdquo; said Amir Hamzah, stressing that the system has already demonstrated its effectiveness.
Government&rsquo;s Plan to Save RM8 Billion Annually

Malaysia&rsquo;s mixed doubles badminton duo, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, are officially parting ways following a decision by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam confirmed that the split was made after a thorough evaluation and recommendations from the coaching panel.

&ldquo;After much deliberation, the coaching panel has given its recommendation,&rdquo; Subramaniam stated on 28 March. He added that the decision was based on reports and final recommendations from mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto and doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky.
&ldquo;We have received the report and final recommendation from the coaches,&rdquo; he reiterated. &ldquo;The pair will be split for upcoming tournaments, and we have also agreed to give the coaches some time to experiment with potential new pairings.&rdquo;

He emphasised that conceding to such demands would compromise Malaysia&rsquo;s security and expose the nation to further cyber threats from both local and international criminals.

However, these claims were contested by other social media users who shared images showing operational flight information display systems, casting doubt on the severity of the disruption.

From 1st April 2025, all applications for hiking and recreational activities in Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests (HSK) must be made online via the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest). This move, announced by the Selangor Forestry Department on 20th March, aims to simplify the permit application process, making it more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly by reducing paperwork.
Previously, hikers and outdoor lovers had to download and complete a form, submit it via email or in person at a forestry district office, and make payments through bank draft, postal order, or cash at the counter. With SeForest, the entire process is now digital, ensuring a faster and more convenient experience.
Which Locations Require an ePermit?

The ePermit system applies to all Permanent Reserve Forests in Selangor where entry permits are mandatory. Some of the popular hiking and recreational sites affected include:

How to Apply for an ePermit

To apply for an ePermit, visitors must:

<li>Complete the required payment within 24 hours of receiving approval.</li>
<li>Ensure they carry a valid permit while entering the forest reserve.</li>

Strict Penalties for Illegal Entry

Since 1st September 2024, restrictions have been in place regarding the maximum number of visitors allowed per day in 43 recreational and hiking sites across Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests. This measure was introduced to reduce environmental strain and protect the delicate ecosystems within these reserves.
The daily visitor cap varies based on the size and ecological sensitivity of each forest reserve, with limits ranging from 150 to 300 people per day. Additionally, certain locations require hikers to hire a certified mountain guide (Malim Gunung Perhutanan) before attempting specific trails to ensure safety and environmental conservation.
Temporary Closures for Hari Raya Aidilfitri
