Recently content creator Nini Comei recounted an incident from her trip to Italy. She shared a TikTok video featuring her and her friend Fathin Lola, emphasizing that Italy's streets are frequented by numerous con artists and deceivers who often target popular tourist spots.
Nini highlighted that the initial approach by these scammers typically involves asking tourists about their place of origin. Once they have engaged your attention, they may attempt to place a charm bracelet on your wrist and persistently cling to your hand, making it difficult to break free from their grasp. She also mentioned that these scammers invade your privacy by peeking into tourists' wallets to discern the denominations of banknotes, which have varying colours corresponding to their values.

Nini also had a direct encounter with one of these scammers, witnessing them in action. She observed one of them surreptitiously extracting money from the wallet of another unsuspecting tourist who was strolling in the vicinity. According to Nini, these scammers persist in taking money from your wallet with their hands until they are content.
For those who are new to European travel, such occurrences are relatively common at popular tourist destinations. These scammers often employ persuasive tactics and will only release your hand after they've successfully extracted money from you. Nini mentioned that they may use phrases like "This is a gift for you because I love your people" as a ploy to convince tourists to "purchase" the charm bracelets they offer.
Following the sharing of a video capturing these scammers near the Colosseum, Nini subsequently posted a second video, demonstrating that these scammers are widespread. They were spotted later on in Vatican City, indicating the prevalence of such scams in various tourist areas.

As of the present moment, the combined view count for both of Nini's videos has surpassed 3.3 million on TikTok. Many users have taken to the comments section to recount their encounters with similar scammers in various renowned tourist spots across the globe. Some have also issued warnings about the scammers using sleight of hand or other &ldquo;black magic&rdquo; tricks to momentarily distract tourists, enabling them to gain control.
These individuals are encountered in various locations, and they are determined to extract money from unsuspecting tourists. Occasionally, situations can escalate to become confrontational or even violent.

These scammers tend to frequent popular tourist destinations, such as The Great Pyramids in Egypt and the Eiffel Tower in France.
Furthermore, it's essential to exercise caution regarding pickpocketing when visiting European cities, as it remains a significant concern in many urban centres.
Ultimately, the primary takeaway here is the importance of vigilance when travelling globally. While Malaysians are known for their generosity and friendliness, it's crucial not to be overly trusting, as excessive friendliness can sometimes lead to trouble.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has once again escaped conviction in one of his many legal battles, after the High Court granted him a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) over RM27 million allegedly misappropriated from SRC International. However, the 70-year-old remains behind bars, serving a six-year sentence for a separate SRC-related conviction involving RM42 million.
SRC International: The RM27 Million DNAA Explained

On 20 June 2025, High Court Judge K Muniandy delivered the long-awaited decision on Najib's final SRC-related criminal case, which had stalled since charges were first brought in February 2019. The former premier had been accused of receiving RM27 million in illegal proceeds through his AmPrivate Banking accounts on 8 July 2014.
The judge ruled in favour of a DNAA, agreeing with the defence that it would be unjust for Najib to continue facing charges indefinitely without trial. Noting the prosecution&rsquo;s repeated delays and inability to proceed&mdash;despite six years having passed&mdash;Justice Muniandy said there was no sign the case could move forward within a reasonable time frame.
&ldquo;The prolonged wait has become a long haul for the accused, denying him timely resolution,&rdquo; the judge said. He emphasised that criminal charges should not hang over an accused like &ldquo;the sword of Damocles.&rdquo;
A DNAA means Najib is released from the charges, but not acquitted&mdash;should fresh evidence emerge, the prosecution may reopen the case.
Prosecution&rsquo;s Delays and Missing Documents

The judge also noted that no witnesses had been called in the six years since the case was filed, with only repeated postponements. Even the prosecution conceded it would not be prejudiced by a DNAA, highlighting the case&rsquo;s deadlocked state.
Shafee later told reporters that Najib was &ldquo;very happy&rdquo; with the outcome, adding that the number of cases hanging over his client was now diminishing, allowing the former premier to focus solely on the high-profile 1MDB trial.
Najib&rsquo;s Ongoing Legal Woes

The conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal in 2021 and the Federal Court in 2022. Initially sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million, Najib&rsquo;s sentence was halved in 2024 following a partial royal pardon.
The 1MDB-linked case that landed him in prison was the first to result in an actual conviction&mdash;but it is far from his only legal entanglement.
The Larger 1MDB Scandal and Other DNAA Cases

He has previously been granted DNAA status in other high-profile cases:

Shafee maintains that the former AG had full knowledge of the document, which allegedly permits Najib to complete his sentence under house arrest.
However, access to confirm the existence of the royal decree has reportedly been stalled by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Shafee said the Prisons Department had no objection to Najib lodging a police report himself, but Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had not granted permission despite multiple written requests.
What Happens Next?
For now, Najib&rsquo;s legal focus shifts solely to the 1MDB-Tanore case. If he is found guilty, it could add more jail time on top of his current sentence&mdash;even with the reduced term from the royal pardon.
The DNAA granted in the RM27 million SRC case spares Najib from immediate further prosecution, but it remains a temporary reprieve. The prosecution is free to reinstate the charges when ready, and the shadow of his extensive legal history still looms large over the former prime minister.

Acknowledging Penang&rsquo;s existing traffic challenges, Loke assured that proper traffic management plans will be implemented to minimise disruptions during construction. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve requested that, once piling and construction begin, there must be a proper traffic diversion plan in place,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;As with any construction project, there will be some impact, but our aim is to keep it manageable.&rdquo;
Residents can expect regular updates and engagement efforts from local authorities and MRT Corp as works progress, especially in high-traffic areas near George Town and Bayan Lepas.
Target Completion by 2030
The full completion of the Mutiara Line is slated for 2030.
