China&rsquo;s singing competitions are home to many Chinese participants from all walks of life and it doesn&rsquo;t stop there when there are Malaysians who go all out to pursue their dreams.&nbsp;
Recently, Jeryl Lee Pei Ling, a twenty-three-year-old local singer from Penang made herself known as the champion for being the winner of the Chinese reality TV show, The Next 2023.&nbsp;

In the final episode which aired on September 30, Saturday, she was announced as the winner and she couldn&rsquo;t hold back her tears as she was deeply touched by the good news which brought her immense joy and gratitude. To mention, she beat the other four contestants named Wang OK, Zhang Yu Zi, Wu Yao Tao, and Zhuohaitun band and emerged as the crown.&nbsp;

In abundant joy, she took an opportunity to express her innermost thoughts and feelings through her Instagram <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jerylleex/">@jerylleex</a> with a caption saying &ldquo;Hello everyone, I am Lee Pei Ling from Malaysia, and I am also the overall winner of The Next 2023. I still feel like I&rsquo;m dreaming, I&rsquo;m really thankful for everyone around me.&rdquo;&nbsp;

The competition is said to be the best competition she participated in thus far and she has made many new friends by participating in it.&nbsp;
With the overflow of gratitude, she also thanked the coaches, choreographers, and team production for continuously giving her encouragement and support that without it, her dream would not come true.&nbsp;
At the time of writing, the post has flooded with over 62.8K likes and 1,330 comments. There were many Malaysian celebrities including her fans who congratulated her on her success and that they were happy with her superb performance. She secured herself as the winner of the Water Cube Cup overseas Chinese youth singing contest back in 2014. Moreover, she also went for the Sing! Japanese pop-rock legends SEKAI NO OWARI&mdash;also known internationally as End of the World&mdash;have officially announced their return to Southeast Asia with their brand-new Phoenix Asia Tour. The tour, slated for October 2025, marks their first full-scale live shows in the region since their 2015 performance at MTV World Stage in Malaysia.

SEKAI NO OWARI Returns To Southeast Asia With “Phoenix Asia Tour”

A catastrophic aviation disaster unfolded on Thursday, 12 June, when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The crash, which occurred at approximately 1.39pm local time, claimed the lives of more than 240 people, making it the world&rsquo;s worst commercial aviation tragedy in over a decade.

Flight AI171, bound for Gatwick Airport, was carrying 242 individuals, including 217 adults, 11 children, two infants, and a crew of 12. The aircraft plummeted into a residential area, crashing directly into a hostel attached to a medical college in the Meghani Nagar neighbourhood during lunchtime. Among the deceased were hostel residents, including medical students, doctors, and their families.

Only One Survivor Pulled from the Wreckage

In a rare miracle, one passenger survived: a British national of Indian origin named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Seated in seat 11A, next to an emergency exit, Ramesh was able to escape the burning wreckage. He sustained multiple injuries but remained conscious and coherent when transported to hospital.
&ldquo;Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,&rdquo; Ramesh told the Hindustan Times from his hospital bed. &ldquo;When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance.&rdquo;
Footage taken after the crash showed Ramesh bloodied and limping as he was helped into an ambulance. Police later confirmed he had managed to jump from the aircraft through the emergency exit, and that he remains the only known survivor.
Devastation on the Ground

The destruction was not limited to those on board. At least 24 people on the ground perished when the aircraft struck the building. Many others were injured. Witnesses described the crash as sounding like a bomb explosion, and some felt the ground shake as if during an earthquake.
&ldquo;My son is safe, and I have spoken to him,&rdquo; said a woman named Ramila, whose son had just returned to the hostel for lunch. &ldquo;He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered some injuries.&rdquo; Another local, Poonam Patni, recounted the horror: &ldquo;When we reached the spot there were several bodies lying around and firefighters were dousing the flames. Many of the bodies were burned.&rdquo;
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims. Authorities have asked families of the deceased to provide DNA samples for identification due to the severe burns suffered by many victims.
Cause of Crash Still Unknown
The aircraft had only just departed Ahmedabad&rsquo;s runway when it issued a Mayday call. Moments later, it vanished from radar. CCTV footage showed the plane struggling to climb before falling rapidly and disappearing from view, followed by a massive fireball rising from behind residential buildings.

Air traffic control confirmed the Dreamliner took off at 1.39pm and lost contact shortly after. The flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that the plane&rsquo;s signal was lost less than a minute after take-off. Notably, video analysis suggested the landing gear was still down, which aviation experts noted as unusual for that stage of flight.
US aerospace safety consultant Anthony Brickhouse remarked: &ldquo;If you didn&rsquo;t know what was happening, you&rsquo;d think the plane was on approach, not take-off.&rdquo; The exact cause remains unknown, but mechanical failure or pilot error has not been ruled out.
First Crash for Boeing 787 Dreamliner

This crash marks the first-ever fatal accident involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since the aircraft entered commercial service in 2011. The specific aircraft involved, registered as VT-ANB, had been delivered to Air India in January 2014 and first flown in 2013.
The Dreamliner had a reputation for being one of the safest wide-body jets, adding further shock to the tragedy. Boeing has since dispatched a team of experts to assist with the investigation, which is being led by India&rsquo;s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
Worldwide Response and Support

In the aftermath, Air India and its parent company Tata Group expressed deep sorrow. Air India CEO Campbell Wilson called it a &ldquo;devastating incident,&rdquo; while Tata pledged ₹1 crore (approximately &pound;86,000) in compensation for each victim&rsquo;s family. They also committed to covering all medical expenses for the injured and pledged support in rebuilding the medical college hostel.
International leaders extended condolences. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as &ldquo;heartbreaking beyond words.&rdquo; UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the images &ldquo;devastating,&rdquo; and King Charles was said to be closely following developments. US President Donald Trump described the incident as &ldquo;terrible,&rdquo; while British authorities confirmed they were working with Indian counterparts to support affected families.
Three of the British victims were identified as Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa, and their young daughter, Sara. Gatwick Airport has set up a special reception centre for relatives of passengers.
Investigation Underway

India&rsquo;s Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced that a high-level committee of experts has been formed to conduct a comprehensive investigation. The aircraft&rsquo;s black box and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered, and data from these will be crucial in determining the crash's cause.
GE Aerospace, the maker of the plane&rsquo;s engines, has also sent a team to India to assist in analysing the flight and cockpit data.
