It's important to note that merely displaying such claims doesn't guarantee that the restaurant is truly halal or safe for Muslim consumption.
So, when cafes open, one common strategy to attract customers is to engage influencers for promotion. However, not all promotional efforts yield positive results.
Influencer Slammed For Promoting &ldquo;Halal Soju&rdquo;
Recently a group of local influencers faced public criticism for promoting a restaurant that offered a "halal version" of the popular Korean-flavoured alcohol, Soju.

In case you're not familiar, Soju is a popular clear and colourless distilled alcoholic beverage traditionally made from rice grains, with alcohol levels ranging from 12.9% to 53%. Food vlogger Jom Kita recently posted a video online featuring a visit to the new 'Wagyou Grill' restaurant located in Bangi. While it's common for influencers to promote restaurants, what upset netizens in this case was that the restaurant owner, who is a Malay Muslim, served them what appeared to be Soju and claimed it was "halal."
The video's narrator clarified that the drinks shown were actually non-alcoholic fruit juices served in green bottles, resembling the original alcoholic beverage. Following Korean tradition, the influencers used shot glasses to drink the "halal version" of the drink, which sparked a wave of criticism from netizens.
Netizens Condemned The Influencers Actions
Perusing the comment section of the post, many netizens expressed their concerns and disapproval of the food vloggers for attempting to engage in what they perceived as non-halal practices. Some also raised questions about why they would label the beverage as "Soju" when it clearly wasn't, fearing that this could potentially mislead others.

What Exactly Was The Drink They Had?

The beverage brand featured in the video was actually called Soyou and is marketed as the "first non-alcoholic Soyou" in Malaysia. Soyou offers a range of flavours reminiscent of the popular alcoholic beverage, but their official website also makes it clear that these drinks are completely alcohol-free.

Regarding their halal certification, their website states that the company is currently in the process of obtaining the halal certification and has yet to officially receive it. However, they added that they are committed to adhering to Halal policies and are actively working to prepare their products for certification.
At the time of writing, neither Wagyou Grill nor Jom Kita had responded to the backlash but it&rsquo;s noted that the tweet of the original post has been set so that no one else can reply to the tweet.
Considering that the drink is already called Soyou, the restaurant should definitely rename the item on the menu. In case you&rsquo;re a current or potential restaurant owner, it&rsquo;s also always best to ensure that the items sold to your customers meet the halal standards as it can lead you to less trouble or negativity like this.

Her family fears she may have been abducted by a man who previously took her away without explanation.

&ldquo;He&rsquo;s in his 40s, but we don&rsquo;t have his real name, and we don&rsquo;t know what he does for a living. We hardly communicate with him. After the last time he picked up my daughter, I asked her what happened, but she just wouldn&rsquo;t say anything,&rdquo; said Su.
The family has no idea when &ldquo;Ah Long&rdquo; began contacting Yi Xuan or the nature of their relationship. The lack of transparency has only deepened fears that the teenager may have been manipulated or lured away.
Phones Switched Off and a Home Left Empty
After Yi Xuan&rsquo;s disappearance on 28 April, the family attempted to contact both her and &ldquo;Ah Long&rdquo; by phone. Neither responded, and both devices have remained switched off since. In desperation, Su went to &ldquo;Ah Long&rsquo;s&rdquo; known residence, only to find that the premises appeared abandoned.
&ldquo;My family and I have searched everywhere she usually goes &mdash; parks, caf&eacute;s, and hangouts she likes. We even received a tip that someone saw a girl matching her description in Yong Peng, and we rushed there, but so far we&rsquo;ve found nothing,&rdquo; said Su.
A Family Desperate for Answers
Yi Xuan&rsquo;s sudden silence, her connection to a mysterious older man, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have left her family deeply worried and emotionally drained. Her mother expressed frustration over the lack of leads and the fear that something sinister may have happened.
&ldquo;She didn&rsquo;t leave any messages. No clues. She just vanished,&rdquo; Su said, holding back tears. &ldquo;We are so afraid for her. If anyone has seen her or knows anything, we just want her home safe.&rdquo;
