In today's digital age, the Internet has become an integral part of the lives of many Malaysians. Notably, research conducted by ProxyRack reveals that Malaysia holds the third position globally in terms of online engagement, underscoring the significant time spent by its residents on the Internet.
For context, Malaysia's overall time score stands at 7.56 out of 10, while the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia surpass it with scores of 8.37 and 8.20, respectively, as indicated below.

Knowingly, the United Arab Emirates was placed as the first, followed by Saudi Arabia and eventually, Malaysia as the third in accordance with data gathered and interpreted from <a href="https://www.proxyrack.com/screen-time-report/">ProxyRack. </a>
What Factors Contribute To The Ranking?

Referring to Proxyrack, factors that contribute to or determine the ranking is due to the fact that 99% of the country&rsquo;s population is active internet users and 57% of it consists of internet users with mobile phones. 
With that being said, Saudi Arabia falls short of the United Arab Emirates as the second place of the list because they had a marginally shorter daily Internet usage and a lower average number of social media platforms used monthly. 
Moving to Malaysia which secured itself as the third with a lower internet adoption rate of 96.8% unlike the other two countries with 99% respectively. 
According to <a href="https://www.malaysianow.com/news/2023/07/31/malaysias-population-to-grow-2-1-in-2023">Malaysianow</a>, the total population of Malaysia is approximately 33.4 mil which contributes to the total daily spent on the internet by Malaysians of 8 hours and 6 minutes with an overall time score of 7.56/10.

While Malaysians use the internet for various reasons, however, we have found that their top 3 reasons include finding information (76.2%), keeping themselves updated with current news and updates (65.8%), and staying in touch with their loved ones (64.2%) for aged group 16 to 64.&nbsp; 
This shows that the Internet serves as a readily available source for Malaysians in knowledge-seeking, learning, and fostering relationships in the form of education, research as well as communication. It is indeed a great channel for them to better themselves and maintain networks globally while living in the fast-paced digital landscape. 
What do Malaysians use social media for?

The next factor with 52.7% is to occupy their leisure time with social media platforms so that they can chill and relax which acts as a form of entertainment when living in a challenging and stressful world. Alongside with the third reason: reading news stories (42.6%). This is for them to stay in touch with the local as well as international news just so they are informed and know what&rsquo;s going on with Malaysia and other countries.

Despite the TikTok platform rising to prominence among youths in terms of popularity, however, the three mega platforms mentioned above still overtake TikTok.

Just two months prior, Ye had allegedly approached his grandfather with a claim that he had been duped in a cryptocurrency scam and requested 40,000 yuan (about RM23,900). When the elder refused to comply, Ye appeared to have escalated his tactics dramatically.
