The Exchange TRX Mall has been a hot conversation topic for the past months, and on its opening last week, Malaysians can be found crowding the mall &ndash; eager to explore the newest skyscraper attraction. A 70-acre development set to be the heart of Malaysia&rsquo;s international business and financial hub, The TRX Mall knows how to keep them in the headlines even after its grand opening.&nbsp;
In a recent viral TikTok post, the water play sensory area on the TRX rooftop was closed temporarily after visitors were ambushed&ndash;probably too excited. While their management has not announced how long the maintenance work will take, the area is still barricaded as we speak.
Soaking No More

The 70-acre mall is equipped with various recreational facilities, complete with a rooftop green space for both children and adults to enjoy. The TRX City Park boasted a 10-acre leisure area with a play cave, kampung playhouse, and water sensory playground for the little ones to use their pent-up energy. (Take note, parents!)
When the mall opened its doors to the public, there were rave reviews about the developer&rsquo;s efforts to include functional green spaces catering to children's and adults' needs. Based on the posts on social media, parents can be seen letting their children have the best time of their lives, especially in the water play area.&nbsp;
This brought us to the temporary closure of the water play sensory area. According to the feedback from the visitors during its weekend opening, the parents were not mindful enough to supervise their children, causing them to misuse and abuse the facilities.

In the TikTok video that has been making rounds highlighting the closure of the water play area, the comment section was flooded with netizens blaming the parents for failing to supervise their children, hence, the damage done at the water play area. Many pointed out that we can&rsquo;t move towards a first-class country with a third-world mentality if we keep abusing our public facilities &ndash; agreeing that it&rsquo;s a collective responsibility to care for public amenities.

In another post on X, a user posted her conversation with the mall&rsquo;s management regarding the status of the water play area. The management responded that they built the area as a sensory area with the intention for the children to enjoy it; however, they also advised against misusing certain parts or areas of the facilities to avoid unfortunate accidents.

Looking at the mall&rsquo;s management stance at the moment, they are doing their best to provide clearer regulations for the public to visit and enjoy their time there while ensuring a safe environment for everyone. In the meantime, the collective responsibility to care for public facilities is integral to building a thriving and harmonious nation. As citizens, we share the duty to preserve and maintain these common spaces, recognizing them as invaluable assets that contribute to the well-being and cohesion of our communities. Japanese pop-rock legends SEKAI NO OWARI&mdash;also known internationally as End of the World&mdash;have officially announced their return to Southeast Asia with their brand-new Phoenix Asia Tour. The tour, slated for October 2025, marks their first full-scale live shows in the region since their 2015 performance at MTV World Stage in Malaysia.

A catastrophic aviation disaster unfolded on Thursday, 12 June, when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Flight AI171, bound for Gatwick Airport, was carrying 242 individuals, including 217 adults, 11 children, two infants, and a crew of 12. The aircraft plummeted into a residential area, crashing directly into a hostel attached to a medical college in the Meghani Nagar neighbourhood during lunchtime. Among the deceased were hostel residents, including medical students, doctors, and their families.

Only One Survivor Pulled from the Wreckage

In a rare miracle, one passenger survived: a British national of Indian origin named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Seated in seat 11A, next to an emergency exit, Ramesh was able to escape the burning wreckage. He sustained multiple injuries but remained conscious and coherent when transported to hospital.
&ldquo;Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,&rdquo; Ramesh told the Hindustan Times from his hospital bed. &ldquo;When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance.&rdquo;
Footage taken after the crash showed Ramesh bloodied and limping as he was helped into an ambulance. Police later confirmed he had managed to jump from the aircraft through the emergency exit, and that he remains the only known survivor.
Devastation on the Ground

The destruction was not limited to those on board. At least 24 people on the ground perished when the aircraft struck the building. Many others were injured. Witnesses described the crash as sounding like a bomb explosion, and some felt the ground shake as if during an earthquake.
&ldquo;My son is safe, and I have spoken to him,&rdquo; said a woman named Ramila, whose son had just returned to the hostel for lunch. &ldquo;He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered some injuries.&rdquo; Another local, Poonam Patni, recounted the horror: &ldquo;When we reached the spot there were several bodies lying around and firefighters were dousing the flames. Many of the bodies were burned.&rdquo;
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims. Authorities have asked families of the deceased to provide DNA samples for identification due to the severe burns suffered by many victims.
Cause of Crash Still Unknown
The aircraft had only just departed Ahmedabad&rsquo;s runway when it issued a Mayday call. Moments later, it vanished from radar. CCTV footage showed the plane struggling to climb before falling rapidly and disappearing from view, followed by a massive fireball rising from behind residential buildings.

Air traffic control confirmed the Dreamliner took off at 1.39pm and lost contact shortly after. The flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that the plane&rsquo;s signal was lost less than a minute after take-off. Notably, video analysis suggested the landing gear was still down, which aviation experts noted as unusual for that stage of flight.
US aerospace safety consultant Anthony Brickhouse remarked: &ldquo;If you didn&rsquo;t know what was happening, you&rsquo;d think the plane was on approach, not take-off.&rdquo; The exact cause remains unknown, but mechanical failure or pilot error has not been ruled out.
First Crash for Boeing 787 Dreamliner

US President Donald Trump described the incident as &ldquo;terrible,&rdquo; while British authorities confirmed they were working with Indian counterparts to support affected families.
Three of the British victims were identified as Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa, and their young daughter, Sara. Gatwick Airport has set up a special reception centre for relatives of passengers.
Investigation Underway

What began as a suspected break-in at a family home in Bukit Rambai, Melaka, during the early hours of 12 June, has now been confirmed as a deeply troubling domestic tragedy. A 51-year-old single mother, Vernita Boon (also reported as Wen Qiu Yan in some sources), and her 21-year-old eldest son, Lim Boon Kai, were found brutally stabbed to death in the living room of their home in Taman Rambai Mutiara.
Initial reports suggested a robbery, but police have since revealed that the perpetrator was not an external intruder. Instead, the horrific attack was allegedly carried out by Boon&rsquo;s second son, a 17-year-old schoolboy, who is believed to have been driven by pent-up resentment stemming from constant academic pressure.
