I believe most Malaysians are familiar with the name Namewee as he&rsquo;s made headlines for himself quite a number of times over very controversial things.

If most of you who follow him, he&rsquo;s recently made a film called &ldquo;Babi&rdquo; which is about a series of real racial riots which took place at a school in Malaysia back in 2000. In the actual story, two innocent people were killed, and it was covered up by the media.

For those who are within the industry or may know about the media industry, there is a body known as the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and they had taken action towards the producer of the controversial film and was charged in court with participating in its production and displaying posters without a license.
Malay Mail had reported that a 35-year-old film producer, Toh Han Boon or also known as <a href="https://www.facebook.com/joko.toh">Joko Toh</a>, was accused of committing the offence at a premise along Jalan PJU 7/8B, Mutiara Damansara on 18 November 2020.
The 35-year-old is accused of violating Section 22 (1) of the FINAS Act 1981 (Act 244 -Amendment 2013), which is punishable under Section 25 (1) of the same act.

His charge was read out to him in Bahasa Melayu in the Magistrate&rsquo;s Court and if convicted, he could be fined up to RM50,000, up to two years of imprisonment or both.
&nbsp;Deputy public prosecutor Zamriah Zarifah Aris offered bail of RM8,000
One surety was offered to Toh and it was for him to surrender his passport and to report to the nearest police station once a month during the trial period.
The bail amount was objected by lawyer Mohd Haijan who represented Toh as the bail amount was unreasonable and punitive for the nature of the offence.
"My client can attend court according to the set date. I am also applying for low bail as his income is also affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic," the lawyer said.
Magistrate Muhammad Iskandar Zainol later granted Toh a bail of RM5,000 with one surety with no additional condition.
A further mention of the case is set on 14 October.

Namewee whose real name is Wee Meng Chee had taken a jab at FINAS for pressing charges against Toh before the proceedings yesterday via Facebook.

He says that the department should be taking care of filmmakers instead of fighting against them.
"The film&nbsp;Babi&nbsp;will face charges officially today. Film producer Joko Toh, lawyer Edly Firdauz, and I are ready outside the court," he wrote.&nbsp;
"The film which was nominated in four countries and never screened in Malaysia had been threatened by FINAS. Good luck."

Funny enough, the film has actually received nominations at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Bangkok International Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Golden Horse Awards.
Federal Territories Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth lodged a police report against Namewee over the film's poster, which shows various derogatory words used against the country's major races back in November 2020.
I&rsquo;m not one to side someone on stuff like this but I believe that this situation could have been approached better. The two-term Setiawangsa MP confirmed he submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and will officially vacate his ministerial post on 4 July. He will be on leave from 29 May until the day before his departure.
In a statement, Nik Nazmi acknowledged that his role as PKR vice-president was a key factor in his Cabinet appointment. With that mandate now lost, he said it was appropriate for him to make way. He also failed to defend his position as Setiawangsa PKR chief during the party&rsquo;s divisional elections last month.

But that public goodwill turned into collective outrage when news broke that Kopi had been shot dead during a stray dog culling operation carried out by the Besut District Council. The shooting occurred in the early hours of 6 October 2024, reportedly around 1.30am.
According to Dr Kartini Farah Abdul Rahim, one of the plaintiffs, several residents were awakened by the sound of gunshots. Upon investigating, they observed three council officers driving around in a pick-up truck. Shortly after, Kopi was found dead from gunshot wounds. Her death, initially revealed via a post on the &ldquo;My Forever Doggo&rdquo; Instagram account, prompted widespread condemnation and demands for accountability.
Legal Grounds: Alleged Breach of Animal Welfare Law

After years of speculation, teasing, and public demand, WhatsApp has officially launched a native app for the iPad. Malaysia is once again celebrating a landmark moment in badminton history as national shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani officially become the world's top-ranked men&rsquo;s doubles pair, according to the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on 27 May 2025. This milestone marks the first time a Malaysian men's doubles duo has ascended to the coveted No.1 position in nearly a decade.
A Return to the Summit After Almost a Decade
Goh and Nur, known affectionately by fans as FeiDin, now sit atop the global rankings with 91,090 points, surpassing Denmark&rsquo;s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, who dropped to second place after failing to defend their title at the recently concluded Malaysia Masters. The Danes were dethroned following their semi-final loss to fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Although Goh and Nur themselves bowed out in the quarter-finals of the same tournament after losing to another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, their consistent performances over the past year were enough to push them into the top spot. Their victory at the India Open in January 2025 was a pivotal moment, bolstering their climb after strong showings in 2024, which included titles at the Japan Open, China Open, and Arctic Open, as well as runner-up finishes at the BWF World Tour Finals and the Asian Championships.
This achievement makes Goh and Nur the first Malaysian men's doubles team to reach the world No.1 ranking since Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in March 2016. They also join a legendary group of Malaysian shuttlers who once held the same honour, including the Sidek brothers (Razif and Jalani), Cheah Soon Kit-Yap Kim Hock, and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.

&ldquo;Congratulations to them &ndash; this is a fantastic achievement. But they must not get complacent. When you&rsquo;re number one, everyone is watching and targeting you. The pressure will be immense,&rdquo; he said.
Razif emphasised that without consistent performance and proper preparation, the pair risks losing their hard-earned position. &ldquo;Being on top must be motivation, not a destination. They must continue to train hard and think like champions if they are to remain at the peak,&rdquo; he added.
Spotlight on the Singapore Open

That said, the Danes have semi-final points from last year&rsquo;s Singapore Open to defend, while Goh and Nur could widen their lead by as much as 4,000 points if they reach the last four and Astrup-Rasmussen fall short in the quarters.
