QR Code System To Be Implemented For Those Driving To Singapore

Starting 19 March 2024, Malaysians travelling to and from Singapore through the land border will be able to clear immigration much easier thanks to a new QR code system. The system will be implemented at the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoint and it will make travelling between the countries more efficient and faster.
The Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) announced a streamlined procedure for travellers, eliminating the need to physically surrender passports at the car counter. Instead, travellers can present a pre-generated QR code from the MyICA app upon arrival at the checkpoint, simplifying the process.

To get the QR, you&rsquo;ll need to download the app and create a profile on the app. You&rsquo;ll be required to input your passport details in the app but if you&rsquo;re Singaporean, you&rsquo;ll be able to do so automatically using Singpass.
Visitors who have previously travelled to the island can utilize the MyICA app's built-in camera feature to scan the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) of their passport's biodata page. This automatically populates their passport information. However, individuals visiting Singapore for the first time or those using a different passport than their last visit must still present their physical passport for immigration clearance. Nonetheless, they can utilize the QR code for future trips.
Convenient For Travellers

If you're travelling between Singapore and Malaysia, the new QR system implemented by the ICA promises notable time savings. According to their estimates, cars with four passengers could save up to 20 seconds, while those with ten passengers could save a whole minute. What's particularly convenient is that group travellers, whether family or friends, can generate a single QR code, further optimizing the process.
It's important to remember that the QR code remains valid for one year from its generation date, or until the earliest expiry date of any passport within the group, whichever comes first. However, it's crucial to note that QR code entry is only available for returning visitors; first-time travellers or those with new passports must undergo the standard immigration procedure with physical documents.
For frequent visitors wondering about the benefits of obtaining a QR code, Singapore's ICA revealed staggering numbers: during the period of March 7-10, 2024, the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints collectively processed over 1.8 million travellers crossing between the countries.

But that public goodwill turned into collective outrage when news broke that Kopi had been shot dead during a stray dog culling operation carried out by the Besut District Council. The shooting occurred in the early hours of 6 October 2024, reportedly around 1.30am.
According to Dr Kartini Farah Abdul Rahim, one of the plaintiffs, several residents were awakened by the sound of gunshots. Upon investigating, they observed three council officers driving around in a pick-up truck. Shortly after, Kopi was found dead from gunshot wounds. Her death, initially revealed via a post on the &ldquo;My Forever Doggo&rdquo; Instagram account, prompted widespread condemnation and demands for accountability.
Legal Grounds: Alleged Breach of Animal Welfare Law

BLACKPINK Unveils ‘DEADLINE’ World Tour — But Malaysia Is Left Off the List

After years of speculation, teasing, and public demand, WhatsApp has officially launched a native app for the iPad. This long-awaited release marks a significant milestone for the Meta-owned platform, which, until now, has been conspicuously absent from the iPad&rsquo;s App Store despite being one of the world&rsquo;s most-used messaging services. Starting today, users can download WhatsApp for iPad directly from the Apple App Store&mdash;bringing the full power of the app to a larger screen, complete with iPadOS multitasking support, video and audio call features, and device synchronisation.

WhatsApp first emerged in 2009&mdash;ironically a year before Apple launched the original iPad&mdash;yet, for over 15 years, a dedicated iPad version remained elusive. Users were left to rely on the limited WhatsApp Web interface or employ unofficial workarounds to access the messaging platform on their tablets. These methods offered only a fraction of the full experience, lacking core features such as timely notifications, full media access, and the fluidity users have come to expect from native apps.
The pressure to develop an iPad app only intensified over the years, with user requests appearing daily on forums like Reddit and Twitter (now X). In 2022, WhatsApp head Will Cathcart publicly acknowledged the demand and expressed a strong interest in bringing the service to iPadOS. A beta version of the app surfaced in 2023, but no release followed&mdash;until now. Just days before the launch, WhatsApp&rsquo;s official X account responded to a user&rsquo;s post asking for an iPad app with a cryptic &ldquo;eye emoji&rdquo;, hinting at what was to come. Familiar Functionality with a Tablet-Optimised Experience

WhatsApp for iPad brings all the features users already know and love from the iPhone version, now tailored for the iPad&rsquo;s larger display. This includes voice and video calls for up to 32 participants, the ability to share screens, and support for both front and rear cameras. These features are further enhanced by iPad-exclusive tools such as Center Stage, Studio Light, Reactions, and background effects&mdash;making calls not just functional but visually engaging.
The app's interface has been redesigned to make use of the iPad&rsquo;s screen real estate. A split-view layout displays your contact list on the left and conversations on the right, providing a more desktop-like experience. Navigation is intuitive, with tabs at the bottom for Updates, Calls, Communities, Chats, and Settings. Voice message transcription is also supported, allowing users to read audio messages&mdash;an invaluable feature in noisy environments or professional settings.
You can also view disappearing &ldquo;view-once&rdquo; media, a feature that was previously inaccessible on web-based versions used on iPads.

Malaysia is once again celebrating a landmark moment in badminton history as national shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani officially become the world's top-ranked men&rsquo;s doubles pair, according to the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on 27 May 2025. This milestone marks the first time a Malaysian men's doubles duo has ascended to the coveted No.1 position in nearly a decade.
A Return to the Summit After Almost a Decade
Goh and Nur, known affectionately by fans as FeiDin, now sit atop the global rankings with 91,090 points, surpassing Denmark&rsquo;s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, who dropped to second place after failing to defend their title at the recently concluded Malaysia Masters. The Danes were dethroned following their semi-final loss to fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Although Goh and Nur themselves bowed out in the quarter-finals of the same tournament after losing to another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, their consistent performances over the past year were enough to push them into the top spot. Their victory at the India Open in January 2025 was a pivotal moment, bolstering their climb after strong showings in 2024, which included titles at the Japan Open, China Open, and Arctic Open, as well as runner-up finishes at the BWF World Tour Finals and the Asian Championships.
This achievement makes Goh and Nur the first Malaysian men's doubles team to reach the world No.1 ranking since Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in March 2016. They also join a legendary group of Malaysian shuttlers who once held the same honour, including the Sidek brothers (Razif and Jalani), Cheah Soon Kit-Yap Kim Hock, and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
Notably, this also marks the first time any Malaysian badminton player has reached world No.1 since singles icon Lee Chong Wei last held the spot in June 2017.
Staying on Top: The Challenge Ahead

While the pair have every reason to celebrate, former world No.1 Datuk Razif Sidek offered a word of caution. Speaking to local media, Razif praised the pair's success but reminded them that staying at the top is significantly harder than reaching it.
&ldquo;Congratulations to them &ndash; this is a fantastic achievement. But they must not get complacent. When you&rsquo;re number one, everyone is watching and targeting you. The pressure will be immense,&rdquo; he said.
Razif emphasised that without consistent performance and proper preparation, the pair risks losing their hard-earned position. &ldquo;Being on top must be motivation, not a destination. They must continue to train hard and think like champions if they are to remain at the peak,&rdquo; he added.
Spotlight on the Singapore Open

Goh and Nur's reign could face an immediate challenge at the Singapore Open, which runs from 27 May to 1 June. In the first round, they will take on Taiwan&rsquo;s Lee Fang Chih and Lee Fang Jen. The Malaysians must reach at least the final to maintain their position. Should the Danish pair win the tournament and Goh-Nur exit early, the No.1 ranking could be lost as quickly as it was earned.
That said, the Danes have semi-final points from last year&rsquo;s Singapore Open to defend, while Goh and Nur could widen their lead by as much as 4,000 points if they reach the last four and Astrup-Rasmussen fall short in the quarters.
Rising Malaysian Forces in Men&rsquo;s Doubles
