The movement intensified dramatically with the killing of George Floyd in 2020, as his death under the knee of a Minneapolis police officer reignited nationwide outrage. BLM activists organized protests, marches, and campaigns to demand accountability for police violence and address broader issues of racial inequality, advocating for policy reforms and societal change.
Later in 2023, even the LAPD was under pressure after the death of Keenan Anderson who died of cardiac arrest after being tased multiple times by police officers.

Social Media Users Blocking Celebrities With #Blockout2024 Movement

Amidst the escalating protests against Israel's actions in Palestine, social media has given rise to a new movement gaining traction in recent days: Blockout 2024. This digital campaign targets celebrities who have either shown insensitivity towards or voiced support for the destruction in Palestine.
The initiative gained momentum following the Met Gala on May 6th and has since spread across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X, where users are encouraged to block these celebrities. But what exactly does this movement entail?
Essentially, Blockout 2024 serves as a digital boycott of prominent figures, spanning from Hollywood actors to social media influencers, who have remained silent on the attacks in Palestine or, in some cases, have openly supported the conflict.

In fact, the list is quite extensive as among the celebrities on it include Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Kylie Jenner, Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Khloe Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Demi Lovato, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Zac Efron, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Justin Timberlake and many more.
The block action initiated by the movement aims to prevent advertising revenue from benefiting celebrities or influencers. Certain A-list celebrities, rumoured to be pro-Israel, have also experienced a significant loss of followers on social media since the launch of #Blockout2024. For instance, Kim Kardashian has reportedly seen a drop of 3 million followers across her social media platforms.

What's even more distressing is the apparent lack of concern or solidarity from any of the celebrities in attendance towards the Palestinian plight. These reports come amidst grim statistics indicating that over 35,000 people, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives in the conflict.

The song is inspired by the recent occupation of Hamilton Hall at Columbia University, where protests supporting Palestine have been ongoing since mid-April 2024.
Protesters barricaded access to Hamilton Hall, a significant structure on Columbia's campus, where they renamed it Hind's Hall in memory of Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in February alongside two paramedics who were attempting to assist her in Gaza.
The song has since gone viral on social media with over 34.4 million views on X, 1.9 million views on YouTube and 3 Million likes on Instagram.

A fatal accident involving a Taiwanese man who fell onto the Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks at Pusat Bandar Puchong has prompted renewed scrutiny over safety standards at Malaysia&rsquo;s public transport hubs. Transport Minister Anthony Loke has since instructed Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the LRT system operator, to accelerate the installation of platform screen doors across all LRT stations to prevent similar tragedies.
Evening Commute Turns Tragic

The victim, later identified as 63-year-old Chang Pao Shih from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, died on the evening of Tuesday, 3 June 2025, after reportedly falling onto the tracks at around 5.54pm. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.05pm and swiftly deployed a team from the Subang Jaya fire station.
According to Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the man was found unconscious beneath the train tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial confusion surrounded his identity and the circumstances of the incident, but authorities later confirmed his nationality and retrieved his passport from the scene.
CCTV Footage Points to Accident

Transport Minister Loke, speaking at a press conference, confirmed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the incident unfolding, and that there were no indications of foul play.
&ldquo;A report was presented by Prasarana yesterday, and it was an accident whereby the person may not have been aware about the platform,&rdquo; he stated. &ldquo;Let the police do their investigation. The CCTV recording will be shared with the police so they can conduct a detailed probe.&rdquo;
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed to coordinate with the Taiwanese embassy to assist in notifying and supporting the victim&rsquo;s next of kin.
Safety Barriers Now a Priority

In light of the incident, Loke announced a renewed commitment to installing platform screen doors &mdash; physical safety barriers between the platform and the train tracks &mdash; at all LRT stations. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve asked Prasarana to make the necessary arrangements. They are currently in the planning stage and we hope to push this initiative forward,&rdquo; Loke said, noting that the installation process will require substantial financial support.
&ldquo;To retrofit older stations with these doors will incur a huge cost and we will need additional budgets,&rdquo; he acknowledged. Nevertheless, the minister emphasised that improving commuter safety must remain a national priority.
Previous Incidents Sparked Earlier Warnings

Following the February incident, Loke announced that his ministry would explore the use of &ldquo;smart&rdquo; CCTV systems capable of detecting erratic or risky behaviour. However, the most recent fatality has added urgency to calls for more tangible infrastructure upgrades, particularly the installation of physical barriers.
Public Reaction: Grief and Frustration
News of Chang&rsquo;s death prompted an outpouring of sympathy from netizens, many of whom offered condolences to the victim&rsquo;s family. However, there was also significant anger directed at the authorities, particularly over perceived delays in implementing promised safety measures.
On social media platforms, users highlighted the risks posed by overcrowded platforms during peak hours, and expressed fear that more deaths could occur if stronger preventive measures are not introduced soon.

What&rsquo;s the Big Deal About Pickleball?

Pickleball has been dubbed the fastest-growing sport in the United States, with celebrities and athletes singing its praises. What began as an ordinary late-night drive through the streets of George Town turned into a terrifying ordeal for a young woman, after a confrontation on the road allegedly escalated into a violent and humiliating assault involving a firearm. The alleged assailant? A man bearing the prestigious title of &lsquo;Datuk Seri&rsquo;.
The shocking incident, which unfolded in the early hours of 1 June, has not only sparked public outrage but also raised troubling questions about the ease with which influential individuals in Malaysia obtain and wield firearms &mdash; sometimes, quite literally, against unarmed members of the public.

He then allegedly pistol-whipped her, using the grip of the firearm to strike her face, causing severe injuries. The suspect also reportedly punched her repeatedly in the face using both the weapon and his bare hands. The victim sustained a broken nose and bruising around her left eye as a result of the attack.
Following the incident, she received emergency treatment at Penang General Hospital before filing a formal complaint with the Northeast District Police at 5.57pm the same day.
Suspect Turns Himself In, Firearm and Licence Confiscated

Northeast District Police Chief, ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, confirmed the details in an official statement. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon, and Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960, which prohibits the use or possession of firearms while intoxicated.

&ldquo;We would like to firmly reiterate that the organisers have no affiliation or collaboration with any individuals or unauthorised channels for ticket sales,&rdquo; the statement read. &ldquo;We strongly urge fans not to purchase from scalpers or unauthorised sources &mdash; doing so risks denied entry and undermines fair access for all.&rdquo;

Some fans are demanding a full audit of ticket sales, while others are calling for the release of additional tickets or at least an explanation regarding the low number of reissued seats. AirAsia MOVE, the travel superapp under Capital A Berhad, is facing intense backlash in the Philippines following allegations that it inflated airfares during a time of urgent public need. What was intended to be a seamless travel platform is now under investigation for potential &ldquo;economic sabotage&rdquo;&mdash;a serious criminal offence in the country.
The controversy erupted when several users reported being quoted airfares that were significantly higher than standard prices, particularly for domestic routes. The most widely reported case involved a one-way flight from Manila to Tacloban City, sold through AirAsia MOVE for PHP77,000 (approximately RM5,880)&mdash;almost three times the fare listed on the official Philippine Airlines website.
Bridge Closure Triggers Surge in Air Travel Demand

Philippine Transport Secretary Vince Dizon accused AirAsia MOVE of capitalising on the crisis. He shared the experience of Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez, who was charged nearly PHP40,000 (~RM3,053) for a one-way flight from Tacloban to Manila, a route that usually costs around PHP12,000 (~RM916).
In response to mounting public outrage, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) issued a cease-and-desist order against AirAsia MOVE, effectively suspending the platform&rsquo;s operations in the country. Dizon added that the Philippine government would be filing a case of criminal economic sabotage against the company, with further investigations to be carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police&rsquo;s Anti-Cybercrime Group, who have been instructed to restrict access to the app.
AirAsia MOVE: &ldquo;We Do Not Set Prices&rdquo;

According to AirAsia MOVE&rsquo;s Chief Executive Officer Nadia Omer, the discrepancies were caused by a technical issue&mdash;specifically, a temporary data synchronisation error with the platform&rsquo;s flight pricing partners.
&ldquo;This technical discrepancy was not isolated to MOVE,&rdquo; Omer said in an official statement. &ldquo;Other booking platforms such as Agoda, Kiwi.com, and Traveloka were also affected by the same pricing issue.&rdquo;
She added that as soon as the issue was identified, AirAsia MOVE took immediate corrective action and reported the matter to its third-party pricing provider for resolution. In addition, the platform has implemented new safeguards to ensure similar issues do not occur in future.
Platform Claims Full Compliance and Cooperation
