Have you checked out the latest Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Account 3?
In case you missed it, EPF has recently revamped its system and introduced a new Account 3 (Fleksibel) for members below 55 years old. This new account offers members the flexibility to withdraw funds whenever they need it. Account 3, which was launched on May 11th, will start from a balance of RM0. EPF members also have the option for a one-time transfer to shift funds from Account 2 (Sejahtera) to Account 3 (Fleksibel).

However, despite the promise of flexible withdrawals, reports have surfaced claiming that members can only withdraw up to RM250 per day. But is this claim accurate?
How To Withdraw Funds From Account 3?

EPF members may withdraw funds from Account 3 if there's sufficient balance. Account 3 starts with an initial balance of RM0, accumulating savings from subsequent contributions. Under the new restructuring, monthly EPF contributions are allocated as follows: 75% to Account 1 (Retirement), 15% to Account 2 (Well-being), and 10% to Account 3 (Flexi).
The minimum withdrawal amount is RM50, and applications can be made online via i-Akaun on the app, available on major app stores. For withdrawals exceeding RM250, an eKYC process is required, accessible online. If unable to complete eKYC online, verification can be done at EPF offices or Self-Service Terminals (SST) using thumbprints.
To do so, EPF has released a simple guide that users can follow:
Step 1: Login to your KWSP i-Akaun. Step 2: Tap withdrawal and select withdraw your savings. Step 3: Select Akaun Fleksible and select withdraw now. Step 4: Enter the desired amount that you want to withdraw then select continue. Step 5: Select &amp; update your banking details and select continue. Do note that the bank needs to be registered under your name. Step 6: Read through the Members Declaration and select Accept to continue. Step 7: Enter the TAC number and you&rsquo;ll be directed to a confirmation page indicating your application success.
Withdrawals from Account 3 don't necessitate any additional documentation, yet an operational bank account is necessary to facilitate the payment process. While physical presence for identity verification at offices isn't mandatory due to the availability of online options, this is contingent upon your withdrawal records and the sum requested, provided it's within RM30,000. In cases where there's no prior withdrawal history or if the bank account details differ, identity verification can be completed through two alternative methods:
<ul>
<li>Thumbprint verification via Self-Service Terminal (SST) at any EPC office, for withdrawal application amount of more than RM10,000, OR</li>
<li>Online verification, subject to withdrawal application amount of less than RM10,000.</li>

If you've requested the one-time transfer of funds from Account 2 (Sejahtera) to Account 3 (Fleksibel), EPF has indicated that it will take 3-5 business days.
For those with enough funds in Account 3 who have applied for flexible withdrawal, the payment will be transferred to your designated bank account within 7 business days upon approval of the application.
Transferring Funds Into Account 3 Using The i-Akaun App
Aside from withdrawing funds from Account 3, there's also the option of executing a one-time transfer from Account 2 to the recently established account. To initiate this transfer, simply click on "Learn More" under the banner titled "Akaun Fleksibel: Meet today&rsquo;s goals, shape tomorrow&rsquo;s dreams".

Once you've accessed the introduction to the new structure, proceed by clicking "Next" and then the "Transfer Now" button. Following this, you'll encounter an important reminder that must be acknowledged before proceeding with the transaction.
Within the designated one-time transfer window, you have the flexibility to transfer funds from Account 2 to either Account 1 or Account 3. Additionally, you'll receive a detailed comparison of your Account 1, 2, and 3 balances before and after the transaction. Please be aware that EPF regulations prohibit users from transferring funds from Account 1 to any other accounts.

Furthermore, it's important to note that users do not have the option to select the amount of money they wish to transfer to Account 3, as it is predetermined by the system. Following this, you'll be prompted to finalize the Member's Declaration and click "Accept" after reviewing the terms. Finally, please allow for a processing time of approximately 3 to 5 working days before the transfer is completed.
While it's now possible to withdraw funds from Account 3, it's not recommended unless absolutely necessary. Given the current economic conditions, with the cost of living nearing an all-time high, many Malaysians are diligently saving and seeking additional sources of income whenever possible.
In our opinion and coming from MYC! CEO, Jason Ko, who is an ex-investment banker, he says that withdrawing funds from EPF Account 3 should be based on careful considerations of affordability and should only occur in life and death situations. He advocates for keeping wealth where it generates the highest interest, as deferred expenses can accumulate significantly over time. He emphasizes the principle with a quote: "if you never see it, you never have it," suggesting that out-of-sight funds help in wealth accumulation.

EPF withdrawals, however, are often spent on non-essential items such as gifts for family or holidays based on a few studies. Referencing the chart above on Malaysians' financial self-sufficiency, it's clear that a significant portion of financial challenges arise from inadequate financial assets. The chart reveals that 65% of EPF members have savings of less than RM50,000, and that 50% of former EPF members exhaust their savings within five years, highlighting the urgency for better financial planning and restraint in fund usage.

Malaysia may soon have a new way of improving highway traffic flow &mdash; not by raising speed limits, but by encouraging drivers to avoid travelling too slowly in the wrong lane.
The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has launched a three-month proof-of-concept (POC) trial introducing advisory minimum speed limits on selected stretches of the PLUS Highway and South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE). The initiative, known as Had Laju Nasihat Minimum, began on 1 August and will run until 31 October 2026.
Developed in collaboration with the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), PLUS Malaysia Berhad and SKVE Holdings, the trial aims to improve lane discipline, reduce lane hogging and ease the "phantom traffic jams" that often frustrate motorists despite the absence of accidents or roadworks.
Advisory Speeds, Not A New Speed Limit

Unlike conventional speed limits, the figures displayed during the trial are recommendations rather than legally enforceable minimum speeds.
Motorists will not be issued summonses for travelling below the advisory speed, and existing maximum speed limits remain unchanged. Drivers are also expected to adjust their speed whenever road conditions require it, including during:

<li>Heavy traffic congestion</li>
<li>Heavy rain or severe weather</li>
<li>Poor visibility</li>
<li>Road accidents or obstructions</li>
<li>Roadworks or lane closures</li>
<li>Instructions from enforcement officers or highway personnel</li>
</ul>
MIROS stressed that the initiative is intended to guide drivers in choosing the most appropriate lane based on their travelling speed, rather than encouraging faster driving.
Recommended Speed For Every Lane

The advisory speeds vary according to the number of lanes on each highway section.
For two-lane highways, motorists are encouraged to travel at 80km/h in the right overtaking lane and 60km/h in the left cruising lane.
On three-lane highways, the recommended speeds are 100km/h for the right lane, 80km/h for the middle lane and 60km/h for the left lane.
Meanwhile, four-lane highways adopt a similar approach, with the rightmost lane carrying a recommended 100km/h, followed by 80km/h in the next lane, while the remaining two left lanes are set at 60km/h.
Drivers are advised to follow the overhead signboards installed at the trial locations, which display the recommended minimum speed for each lane.
Three Highway Sections Selected
The trial is currently taking place along three high-traffic corridors chosen based on traffic conditions, congestion patterns and infrastructure suitability:

<li>PLUS E1 Northbound: Tanjung Malim to Behrang (KM400.1 to KM388.0)</li>
<li>PLUS E2 Northbound: Bandar Ainsdale to Nilai (KM267.8 to KM278.8)</li>
<li>SKVE E26: Ayer Hitam Toll Plaza to Bandar Saujana Putra (KM9.6 to KM16.7)</li>
</ul>
According to MIROS, these stretches were selected because they frequently experience unexplained congestion, have limited entry and exit points, and are free from AWAS speed enforcement cameras, allowing researchers to better assess traffic behaviour throughout the trial.
Traffic data and public feedback collected during the three-month period will help determine whether the initiative should be expanded to other highways across the country.
Tackling Lane Hogging And "Phantom Jams"

One of the main objectives of the trial is to address lane hogging, particularly drivers travelling well below the normal flow of traffic while remaining in the right overtaking lane.
According to MIROS, when a slower vehicle occupies the fast lane, vehicles behind are forced to brake or change lanes unexpectedly. These repeated braking movements create ripple effects that can eventually develop into so-called phantom traffic jams&mdash;sudden congestion with no visible cause.
Large differences in speed between vehicles also increase the likelihood of rear-end collisions and dangerous lane-changing manoeuvres, especially when motorists attempt to overtake from the left.
Research has consistently shown that maintaining a more consistent traffic flow, rather than simply increasing speed, plays a significant role in improving highway safety and reducing congestion.
Encouraging Better Lane Discipline
As part of the campaign, MIROS is encouraging motorists to:
<ul>
<li>Choose the lane that matches their travelling speed.</li>
<li>Use the right lane primarily for overtaking.</li>
<li>Return to the left lane after completing an overtaking manoeuvre.</li>
<li>Avoid overtaking slower vehicles from the left whenever possible.</li>
<li>Maintain a safe following distance.</li>
<li>Give way to faster-moving vehicles approaching from behind in the overtaking lane.</li>
</ul>
The organisation's campaign slogan, "Jangan jadi punca trafik terganggu" ("Don't be the cause of disrupted traffic"), reinforces the message that proper lane discipline benefits all road users.
Lane Hogging Already Carries A Penalty

Although the advisory minimum speeds themselves are not enforceable, motorists should remember that lane hogging is already an offence under Malaysian road transport laws.
Drivers who unnecessarily obstruct traffic by remaining in the overtaking lane without passing other vehicles can face compound fines of up to RM2,000.
Heavy commercial vehicles must also continue complying with existing lane restrictions and maximum speed regulations, as the new advisory signs do not override current traffic laws.
Trial Will Determine Future Rollout
For now, MIROS describes the initiative as a research project designed to evaluate whether advisory minimum speed signage can improve traffic flow and road safety on Malaysian expressways.
If the findings show positive results, the concept could eventually be expanded to additional highways nationwide.
While the trial does not introduce a mandatory minimum speed limit, it serves as a reminder that safe highway driving is not only about avoiding excessive speed. Driving too slowly in the wrong lane can also disrupt traffic, increase crash risks and contribute to unnecessary congestion.
Ultimately, the initiative aims to encourage motorists to use the appropriate lane for their speed, helping create a smoother, safer and more predictable driving experience for everyone.

According to MAHB, the RM3 charge is intended to support the operation and maintenance of the airport's upgraded e-hailing facilities and digital systems.
E-hailing drivers will continue to be given a maximum of 10 minutes to collect passengers at the kerbside pick-up zone. Drivers who remain beyond the allocated time will face additional penalty charges, although the airport operator has yet to specify the amount.
The time limit is designed to improve traffic circulation, increase the availability of pick-up bays and ensure a smoother collection process for passengers.

MAHB said the upgraded system will strengthen monitoring and access control, helping to curb illegal e-hailing activities by ensuring that only authorised drivers can access the designated pick-up facilities.

The airport operator said the improvements were introduced following engagement sessions with e-hailing operators and in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
The initiative also follows recommendations by the National Airport Facilitation Working Committee (NAFWC) as part of broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience.

The Malaysian government is considering introducing a levy on every electric vehicle (EV) sold to help fund the expansion of the country's public charging infrastructure, as it looks to support growing EV adoption and address gaps in the current charging network.
Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the proposal is still under study and no levy amount or implementation timeline has been announced.
The proposal comes after the government said it had forgone RM3.3 billion in tax revenue through incentives for imported EVs, while public charging infrastructure has not expanded as quickly as expected.
Why The Government Is Considering A Levy

Speaking during question time in the Dewan Negara, Johari said Malaysia needs a sustainable way to finance the construction of public charging stations, as the government cannot rely solely on EV manufacturers and distributors to make the necessary investments.
"We may impose a levy on every EV sold and channel the proceeds into a dedicated fund to build public charging stations because we cannot rely solely on vehicle manufacturers or distributors to undertake such investments," he said.
Johari explained that Malaysia's internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle ecosystem is supported by around 3,500 petrol stations, each equipped with multiple fuel pumps, allowing motorists to refuel within minutes.
In contrast, Malaysia's public EV charging network remains relatively limited, making charging less convenient, particularly for long-distance travel and residents who cannot install chargers at home.
Charging Infrastructure Still A Major Challenge

Johari said one of the biggest obstacles to wider EV adoption is that many Malaysians live in apartments, condominiums and People's Housing Programme (PPR) flats, where installing private chargers is often difficult or impossible.
Many older high-rise buildings were not designed to support EV charging facilities, while electrical capacity and safety requirements can prevent residents from installing home chargers.
As a result, many EV owners depend on public charging stations.
He noted that while owners of landed homes can usually install AC chargers, this option is unavailable to a large segment of urban Malaysians.
"When people buy an EV, they think it is good because they do not need petrol. But when they return home to a PPR or apartment and cannot charge their vehicle, the question becomes: where do they charge?" he said.
Johari added that the shortage of charging facilities is one reason why EV ownership is currently more common among second-car owners and those who mainly drive within cities.
RM3.3 Billion In Tax Incentives

Malaysia introduced generous incentives between 2022 and 2025, exempting completely built-up (CBU) EVs from import duty, excise duty and sales tax to encourage adoption and attract investment into the EV sector.
According to Johari, these incentives resulted in approximately RM3.3 billion in forgone tax revenue over four years. However, he said the expected investment in public charging infrastructure from industry players did not materialise.
"After four years, when we looked for public charging stations, the investment from EV industry players was simply not there," he said.
As a result, the government has ended the full tax exemptions for imported CBU EVs, while incentives for locally assembled (CKD) EVs will remain in place until 31 December 2027 to continue supporting domestic manufacturing.
Learning From China's EV Success

Johari said he recently discussed EV development with China's trade minister, who explained that China's success was driven by significant government investment in charging infrastructure.
"He said the Chinese government spent billions of dollars on public chargers. We, on the other hand, spent billions giving exemptions," Johari said.
He stressed that the government is not discouraging EV adoption.
"EVs are the future. Hybrids are the future. But we must ensure the infrastructure keeps pace so that it does not become a burden for the rakyat."
Local Industry Must Benefit Too

Beyond charging infrastructure, Johari said future government incentives will be tied to companies that contribute meaningfully to Malaysia's automotive ecosystem.
He said manufacturers seeking incentives must integrate local suppliers into their supply chains, transfer technology and create high-skilled jobs instead of relying entirely on imported components.
Johari noted that Proton and Perodua have helped build a network of around 733 Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 vendors, which account for between 72% and 82% of Malaysia's automotive component manufacturing industry.
Malaysia will continue welcoming EV investments, he said, provided they generate long-term economic value for the country.
New Target Of 30,000 Chargers By 2030
After missing its previous target of 10,000 public charging points by 2025, the government has now set a new goal of 30,000 public EV chargers nationwide by 2030.
MITI said it is working with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to develop additional power substations and strengthen the electricity grid to support the rollout of more DC fast chargers.
The proposed EV levy remains under consideration, with the government expected to continue discussions on how best to finance the country's charging infrastructure while supporting the transition towards cleaner transportation.

The declassified Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has uncovered a troubling picture of how the country's pilgrimage fund continued paying generous staff bonuses and declaring high hibah (profit distributions) despite being in a weak financial position.
Released four years after it was completed, the 211-page report examined TH's management and governance between 2014 and 2020, highlighting governance failures, questionable investment decisions, creative accounting practices and political interference that ultimately placed the institution under severe financial strain.
Bonuses Continued Despite Mounting Losses

Among the report's most striking findings was that TH continued rewarding employees with substantial bonuses even as its finances deteriorated.
Between 2010 and 2017, staff received bonuses ranging from one to 13 months' salary. In 2014 alone, TH reportedly set aside RM74 million for staff bonuses, comprising an 11-month performance bonus and a two-month special bonus.
However, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which later reviewed TH's financial position, concluded that the fund had already been operating with an asset-liability deficit since 2014.
The RCI found there was no justification for such generous payouts while the institution was effectively losing money, recommending that the practice be discontinued and that improperly approved bonuses be recovered where appropriate.
The report also highlighted bonus payments made by TH Properties Sdn Bhd in 2017 and 2018, amounting to RM1.15 million and RM1.05 million respectively. According to the commission, these payments breached the Companies Act 2016 as they were approved without the necessary shareholder resolutions and by a committee lacking the authority to do so.
Profits Reported Despite Underlying Losses

The commission found that TH's financial position appeared significantly healthier than it actually was.
For the 2017 financial year, depositors were informed that TH had recorded a profit of RM3.4 billion. However, after applying the appropriate accounting standards, the RCI concluded the fund should instead have reported a loss of approximately RM1.4 billion &mdash; a difference of around RM4.8 billion.
Much of the discrepancy stemmed from the failure to recognise impairment losses on investments whose value had fallen substantially.
PwC estimated that TH had accumulated losses of roughly RM10 billion by 2017, with the fund remaining in deficit for several years before the financial problems became publicly known.
'Creative Accounting' Used To Maintain Hibah Payments

Despite the deteriorating financial position, TH continued distributing attractive hibah returns to depositors.
Under Section 22 of the Tabung Haji Act 1995, hibah can only be declared if the fund's assets exceed its liabilities.
Instead of relying on audited asset values, however, the RCI found that TH management used a higher internal valuation known as the Realisable Asset Value (RAV), allowing the institution to satisfy the legal requirement on paper while avoiding the recognition of significant impairment losses.
The commission described this as "creative accounting", concluding that TH's 2017 hibah distribution of 4.5%, together with an additional 1.75% haj hibah costing RM2.75 billion, should never have been declared under the audited financial position.
Crime analyst Kamal Affandi Hashim said such accounting practices could indicate deliberate criminal conduct rather than simple administrative mistakes, arguing that manipulating financial statements to conceal losses may expose both those directly involved and those responsible for oversight to potential legal liability.
Warning Signs Were Ignored
The RCI found that several warning signs emerged years before TH's financial issues became public.
Bank Negara Malaysia reportedly issued multiple warning letters to TH between 2014 and 2015 regarding its financial position.
In 2017, international consultancy Roland Berger also warned that TH had been depleting its reserves to maintain hibah payouts and cautioned that the adoption of new accounting standards would expose billions of ringgit in unrealised losses.
However, the report found no evidence that these findings were ever presented to TH's board before the 2018 General Election.
Costly Investments Added To Financial Pressure

The commission identified 14 investments that should undergo forensic audits due to governance concerns and significant losses.
Among the largest was TH's investment in FGV Holdings, which resulted in an unrealised loss exceeding RM1.06 billion after the value of its shares fell sharply following the company's 2012 listing.
Other major losses included:

<li>RM278 million impairment linked to TH Marine.</li>
<li>RM225 million loss from the Deru Semangat plantation project after environmental issues affected buyers' confidence.</li>

</ul>
According to the RCI, investment decisions were often made through weak coordination and excessive reliance on recommendations from TH's own management, while ministers approved proposals without obtaining independent external advice.
Governance Failures And Political Influence
The report also highlighted broader governance weaknesses within TH.
Political appointments to the board between 2014 and 2018 were said to have undermined public confidence, while several senior executives simultaneously held numerous directorships across TH subsidiaries, creating potential conflicts of interest and reducing oversight.
The commission also criticised the growing financial burden of haj subsidies, which had been funded using TH's investment returns, placing additional pressure on its long-term financial sustainability.

A PKR lawmaker has urged the government to suspend Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo&rsquo;s operations in Malaysia until a proper cross-border anti-dumping framework is introduced, arguing that the platform&rsquo;s business model could put local businesses at a disadvantage.
Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing called on the government to consider removing Pinduoduo from app stores and delaying its operations until stronger regulations are established to ensure fair competition.

What Is Pinduoduo And Why Is It So Cheap?

Pinduoduo is one of China&rsquo;s largest e-commerce platforms, connecting consumers directly with manufacturers through a factory-to-consumer model. For example, a household product sold by a Malaysian retailer for around RM13 could reportedly be listed on Pinduoduo for as little as RM2, including delivery from China.
Unlike platforms such as Shopee and Lazada, which mainly operate as marketplaces where local and international sellers run their own online stores, Pinduoduo focuses heavily on direct factory sales, bulk manufacturing and aggressive pricing strategies.
All three platforms offer products ranging from electronics and fashion to household goods and daily necessities. However, Pinduoduo&rsquo;s competitive advantage comes from its close connection with manufacturers, allowing consumers to purchase goods closer to factory prices.
While this benefits consumers looking for affordable products, some local businesses worry that they will struggle to compete against prices that may be difficult for domestic retailers to sustain.
Tan Claims Local SMEs Face An Uneven Playing Field

Tan argued that the issue goes beyond cheaper prices, claiming local businesses face higher compliance costs compared with some overseas sellers.
He said Malaysian companies are required to comply with regulations involving product certification, taxation, quality control and other operational requirements, while certain foreign platforms may not face the same level of obligations.
To address these concerns, Tan proposed several measures, including requiring overseas platforms to store Malaysian users&rsquo; data locally and encouraging partnerships with local manufacturers, suppliers and logistics companies.
He said such requirements could help ensure foreign platforms contribute to Malaysia&rsquo;s economy through technology transfer, industry development and support for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), rather than only benefiting from Malaysian consumer spending.

While many agree that local businesses face growing pressure from low-cost overseas platforms, some statistics cited by Tan have been questioned.

However, figures from SME Corp Malaysia show that SMEs account for around 96.1% of businesses nationwide, while contributing 39.5% of GDP. The figure closer to half relates to employment, with SMEs accounting for 48.7% of the workforce.
Tan also criticised cross-border platforms for avoiding taxes, although Malaysia introduced a 10% Low Value Goods (LVG) Tax on eligible imported online purchases from 1 January 2024.
The tax was introduced to reduce the gap between local and overseas sellers. However, concerns remain over differences in areas such as product certification, consumer protection requirements and regulatory compliance.

The government has made a significant U-turn on its recently introduced Lindung 24 Jam scheme, announcing that contributions to the Social Security Organisation's (SOCSO) Non-Workplace Accident Scheme will no longer be mandatory for Malaysian employees.
The decision comes just over a month after the scheme was introduced on 1 June following amendments to the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4), which expanded social security protection to cover accidents that occur outside normal working hours. Initially, all local employees were required to contribute towards the scheme through deductions from their salaries.
However, following widespread public feedback, the Cabinet has now decided that participation will instead be voluntary with immediate effect, allowing Malaysian workers to decide whether the additional coverage suits their personal needs.
Cabinet Reverses Mandatory Contributions

"The Cabinet has decided that contributions will no longer be mandatory, but voluntary, with immediate effect," Fahmi said, adding that the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) will provide further details on how the new voluntary mechanism will operate.
The announcement marks a swift policy reversal, considering the scheme only came into force a month earlier and was promoted as an expansion of Malaysia's social protection framework.
Why Was The Scheme Introduced?

Lindung 24 Jam was introduced by PERKESO to provide broader protection for employees who suffer accidents outside their workplace and beyond official working hours.
Unlike the existing Employment Injury Scheme, which primarily covers work-related accidents, Lindung 24 Jam extends coverage to incidents that happen during everyday life. This includes accidents at home, while travelling for personal reasons, during recreational activities, on weekends, public holidays, or while carrying out other non-work-related activities.
According to PERKESO, the aim is to provide workers and their families with a more comprehensive social safety net by recognising that serious accidents can happen at any time, not just while someone is at work.
Benefits under the scheme include financial assistance, medical treatment support and other forms of social security protection for eligible contributors who suffer non-work-related accidents.
Public Criticism Prompted The Policy Change

While the objective of the scheme was generally welcomed, its financing model quickly became a point of contention.
Under the original implementation, the entire contribution would have been paid by employees instead of employers, resulting in additional monthly salary deductions.
The contribution structure was introduced in phases:

<li>1.0% over the following three years</li>
<li>1.25% from the sixth year onwards</li>
</ul>
The contributions were subject to a wage ceiling of RM6,000.
For example, an employee earning RM3,000 a month would have contributed around RM22.50 monthly during the first phase, while someone earning RM5,000 would contribute approximately RM37.50.
Although the monthly amounts were relatively modest, many Malaysians questioned why the scheme should be compulsory, especially when numerous workers already pay for personal accident insurance or medical insurance through private providers.
The announcement triggered widespread discussion across social media, with some arguing that workers should be allowed to choose whether they wanted the additional protection instead of having another mandatory deduction from their salaries.
Following the public response, the Prime Minister reviewed the feedback before the matter was brought before the Cabinet, which ultimately decided to make participation voluntary.
Foreign Workers Will Still Be Covered

He explained that the Cabinet's latest decision only affects local employees, giving Malaysians the flexibility to determine whether the additional protection matches their own financial circumstances and insurance needs.
PERKESO is expected to announce the implementation mechanism, including how Malaysian workers can voluntarily register for the scheme, in the near future.
PERKESO Says The Scheme Is Already Benefiting Workers

Despite the public debate surrounding mandatory contributions, PERKESO maintains that Lindung 24 Jam has already demonstrated its value during its first month of implementation.
According to the agency, more than RM1.2 million in benefits has already been paid out after 592 claims were approved.
The organisation also reported recording an average of nearly 20 non-workplace accident cases each day, highlighting the frequency of accidents occurring outside working hours.
Of the total amount paid, around RM1.16 million went towards implant costs, while approximately RM99,000 was disbursed as temporary disablement benefits.
PERKESO has consistently maintained that extending social security beyond the workplace helps protect workers and their families from unexpected financial burdens arising from accidents that occur during everyday life.
Government To Review The Scheme's Future

If necessary, the findings will be tabled in Parliament together with proposed amendments to the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 to ensure the scheme remains practical, sustainable and beneficial to workers.
In the meantime, PERKESO will continue strengthening public awareness efforts by educating workers on the benefits offered under Lindung 24 Jam, allowing Malaysians to make informed decisions on whether they wish to participate now that enrolment is no longer compulsory.
