Have you checked out the latest Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Account 3?
In case you missed it, EPF has recently revamped its system and introduced a new Account 3 (Fleksibel) for members below 55 years old. This new account offers members the flexibility to withdraw funds whenever they need it. Account 3, which was launched on May 11th, will start from a balance of RM0. EPF members also have the option for a one-time transfer to shift funds from Account 2 (Sejahtera) to Account 3 (Fleksibel).

However, despite the promise of flexible withdrawals, reports have surfaced claiming that members can only withdraw up to RM250 per day. But is this claim accurate?
How To Withdraw Funds From Account 3?

EPF members may withdraw funds from Account 3 if there's sufficient balance. Account 3 starts with an initial balance of RM0, accumulating savings from subsequent contributions. Under the new restructuring, monthly EPF contributions are allocated as follows: 75% to Account 1 (Retirement), 15% to Account 2 (Well-being), and 10% to Account 3 (Flexi).
The minimum withdrawal amount is RM50, and applications can be made online via i-Akaun on the app, available on major app stores. For withdrawals exceeding RM250, an eKYC process is required, accessible online. If unable to complete eKYC online, verification can be done at EPF offices or Self-Service Terminals (SST) using thumbprints.
To do so, EPF has released a simple guide that users can follow:
Step 1: Login to your KWSP i-Akaun. Step 2: Tap withdrawal and select withdraw your savings. Step 3: Select Akaun Fleksible and select withdraw now. Step 4: Enter the desired amount that you want to withdraw then select continue. Step 5: Select &amp; update your banking details and select continue. Do note that the bank needs to be registered under your name. Step 6: Read through the Members Declaration and select Accept to continue. Step 7: Enter the TAC number and you&rsquo;ll be directed to a confirmation page indicating your application success.
Withdrawals from Account 3 don't necessitate any additional documentation, yet an operational bank account is necessary to facilitate the payment process. While physical presence for identity verification at offices isn't mandatory due to the availability of online options, this is contingent upon your withdrawal records and the sum requested, provided it's within RM30,000. In cases where there's no prior withdrawal history or if the bank account details differ, identity verification can be completed through two alternative methods:

<li>Thumbprint verification via Self-Service Terminal (SST) at any EPC office, for withdrawal application amount of more than RM10,000, OR</li>
<li>Online verification, subject to withdrawal application amount of less than RM10,000.</li>

If you've requested the one-time transfer of funds from Account 2 (Sejahtera) to Account 3 (Fleksibel), EPF has indicated that it will take 3-5 business days.
For those with enough funds in Account 3 who have applied for flexible withdrawal, the payment will be transferred to your designated bank account within 7 business days upon approval of the application.
Transferring Funds Into Account 3 Using The i-Akaun App
Aside from withdrawing funds from Account 3, there's also the option of executing a one-time transfer from Account 2 to the recently established account. To initiate this transfer, simply click on "Learn More" under the banner titled "Akaun Fleksibel: Meet today&rsquo;s goals, shape tomorrow&rsquo;s dreams".

Once you've accessed the introduction to the new structure, proceed by clicking "Next" and then the "Transfer Now" button. Following this, you'll encounter an important reminder that must be acknowledged before proceeding with the transaction.
Within the designated one-time transfer window, you have the flexibility to transfer funds from Account 2 to either Account 1 or Account 3. Additionally, you'll receive a detailed comparison of your Account 1, 2, and 3 balances before and after the transaction. Please be aware that EPF regulations prohibit users from transferring funds from Account 1 to any other accounts.

Furthermore, it's important to note that users do not have the option to select the amount of money they wish to transfer to Account 3, as it is predetermined by the system. Following this, you'll be prompted to finalize the Member's Declaration and click "Accept" after reviewing the terms. Finally, please allow for a processing time of approximately 3 to 5 working days before the transfer is completed.
While it's now possible to withdraw funds from Account 3, it's not recommended unless absolutely necessary. Given the current economic conditions, with the cost of living nearing an all-time high, many Malaysians are diligently saving and seeking additional sources of income whenever possible.
In our opinion and coming from MYC! CEO, Jason Ko, who is an ex-investment banker, he says that withdrawing funds from EPF Account 3 should be based on careful considerations of affordability and should only occur in life and death situations. He advocates for keeping wealth where it generates the highest interest, as deferred expenses can accumulate significantly over time. He emphasizes the principle with a quote: "if you never see it, you never have it," suggesting that out-of-sight funds help in wealth accumulation.

EPF withdrawals, however, are often spent on non-essential items such as gifts for family or holidays based on a few studies. Referencing the chart above on Malaysians' financial self-sufficiency, it's clear that a significant portion of financial challenges arise from inadequate financial assets. The chart reveals that 65% of EPF members have savings of less than RM50,000, and that 50% of former EPF members exhaust their savings within five years, highlighting the urgency for better financial planning and restraint in fund usage.

US President Donald Trump has reversed his plan to impose a 20% charge on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, just a day after announcing that the United States would become the waterway&rsquo;s &ldquo;guardian&rdquo; and collect fees to cover security costs.
Trump initially said the proposed fee would reimburse the US military for protecting one of the world&rsquo;s most important shipping routes, which has become a major point of tension between Washington and Tehran.
However, after discussions with Gulf leaders, Trump abandoned the plan and said it would instead be replaced with trade and investment agreements between Gulf states and the United States.
Trump&rsquo;s Initial 20% Fee Proposal

The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is a crucial maritime route for global energy supplies, with a significant amount of the world&rsquo;s oil and natural gas shipments passing through it.
Amid rising tensions with Iran and concerns over attacks on commercial vessels, Trump announced that the US would take responsibility for protecting the waterway.
&ldquo;The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as &lsquo;THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,&rsquo;&rdquo; Trump said, adding that the country should be compensated for providing security in the volatile region.
Under the original proposal, a 20% fee would be imposed on all cargo transported through the Strait of Hormuz to cover the costs of military operations and ensuring safe passage for ships.
Trump argued that the US had taken on too much responsibility in protecting the international trade route, while other countries benefited from the security provided by American forces.
The proposal quickly faced criticism, with shipping companies and legal experts questioning how the fee would be implemented and whether it would comply with international maritime laws. Analysts also warned that mandatory charges on an international waterway could disrupt global trade.

&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think anybody should be able to charge for the strait, or for any other strait anywhere else in the world,&rdquo; Trump said.

BOYNEXTDOOR To Make Long-Awaited Malaysian Debut With ‘KNOCK ON Vol.2’ Concert In Kuala Lumpur This December

Malaysia's Home Ministry (KDN) has launched a comprehensive investigation into the operations of Network School, a technology-focused residential community based in Johor's Forest City, following allegations that Israeli nationals may have entered Malaysia using passports issued by other countries.
The probe comes after videos and posts circulated on social media, particularly on Threads, questioning the purpose of the community and alleging that some participants were Israeli citizens despite Malaysia's longstanding ban on Israeli passport holders entering the country.

Authorities have stressed that the investigation is focused on determining whether any immigration laws were breached, rather than making conclusions before the inquiry is completed.
Authorities Investigating Immigration And National Security Concerns

In a statement, the Home Ministry said it is working together with the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other relevant agencies to establish the identities and nationalities of individuals linked to Network School.
Investigators will also examine the validity of the travel documents used, the types of immigration passes granted, the purpose of entry into Malaysia, and whether those involved complied with the country's immigration laws and other relevant legislation.
A key issue being examined is whether any individuals entered Malaysia using passports from third countries in order to bypass restrictions on Israeli passport holders.
Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and Israeli passport holders are generally prohibited from entering the country without special approval from the Home Ministry. However, Malaysia does not prohibit individuals with dual citizenship from travelling using a non-Israeli passport, making the investigation crucial in determining whether any laws or immigration conditions were violated.
The ministry emphasised that any misuse of immigration facilities, submission of false information, abuse of immigration passes or offences affecting national security would be dealt with firmly and "without compromise".
It also urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing.
Johor Government Calls For Thorough Probe

Earlier, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi called on both federal and state agencies to conduct a full investigation into Network School following growing public concern.
He said the Johor government would not allow the state to become a base for activities, ideologies or movements that conflict with Malaysian laws, national sovereignty or the interests of Johor.
Among the agencies asked to investigate are the Home Ministry, Immigration Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and other relevant security agencies.
According to Onn Hafiz, authorities have been instructed to verify the identities and nationalities of individuals involved, examine whether second passports were used, determine the purpose of their entry into Malaysia and establish whether their actual activities matched the reasons declared when entering the country.
In addition, the Higher Education Ministry, Digital Ministry and relevant regulatory bodies have been asked to determine the legal status of Network School's operations, including whether its programmes require registration or approval under Malaysian law.
At the state level, agencies including the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) and the Johor Land and Mines Office will also review compliance involving business licences, land use, accommodation, premises and other regulatory requirements.
What Is Network School?

Founded in 2024 by former Coinbase Chief Technology Officer and American entrepreneur Balaji Srinivasan, Network School describes itself as a co-living and co-learning community for entrepreneurs, technology founders, remote workers and content creators.
The project is based on Srinivasan's concept of a "network state" &mdash; a digitally connected community that eventually develops into a physical settlement with its own economic and social ecosystem.
Located in Forest City, the community markets itself as a hub for "techno-optimists" and startup founders, offering accommodation, co-working spaces, fitness facilities, networking opportunities and educational programmes through a monthly membership.
The development has also hosted talks featuring several prominent technology entrepreneurs and investors from around the world.
However, the current investigation centres on immigration compliance and the identities of individuals participating in the programme, rather than the community's concept itself.
Forest City Once Again Under The Spotlight

The latest controversy places Forest City back under public scrutiny.
Developed by China's Country Garden on reclaimed land in Johor, the multi-billion-ringgit project has faced numerous challenges since its launch, including low occupancy rates and changing government policies regarding foreign ownership.
Its location, directly opposite Singapore and within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, has also attracted international entrepreneurs and businesses in recent years.
Last year, Network School gained further public attention after Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo visited the site and described Malaysia as an increasingly attractive destination for global technology talent. Reports also suggested that Srinivasan had proposed closer collaboration with the Malaysian government, including ideas involving digital visa processing, although no formal policy changes were announced.
Separately, the project also attracted controversy in 2024 after Israeli content creator Nas Daily appeared in promotional material filmed at Network School.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
For now, the Home Ministry has stressed that investigations are still in the early stages and no conclusions have been reached.
Authorities are working with multiple government agencies to determine whether any immigration offences, misuse of travel documents or activities affecting national security have occurred.

Among the initiatives is i-Saraan Plus, a voluntary contribution scheme introduced for gig workers, e-hailing drivers, delivery riders and self-employed Malaysians. The programme provides matching incentives of up to RM600 annually, subject to eligibility requirements and a lifetime maximum limit.
Other initiatives include:

Since its introduction in February 2026, 63 i-Legasi applications involving RM46.3 million have been approved, benefiting 86 recipients.
The government said these measures are part of broader efforts to improve retirement preparedness, especially as Malaysia moves towards becoming an ageing nation.
EPF Account Restructuring To Balance Savings And Financial Needs

Liew also highlighted the restructuring of EPF accounts from two to three accounts as another step towards improving retirement security while allowing members access to funds when necessary.
Under the current structure:

<li>15% goes into the Sejahtera Account for approved withdrawals such as housing, healthcare and education.</li>
<li>10% goes into the Flexible Account for short-term financial needs and emergencies.</li>

The government said the new structure was introduced based on lessons learnt during the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing members to access emergency funds without significantly affecting their long-term retirement savings.

Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun previously raised concerns that around 6.1 million EPF members have savings below RM10,000, partly due to withdrawals made during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He warned that the situation could potentially increase the risk of retirement poverty if affected members are unable to rebuild their savings before reaching retirement age.
Liew acknowledged the concern, saying stronger wage growth and higher household incomes would be crucial in closing the retirement savings gap.
He added that raising wages remains a key objective under the government&rsquo;s Madani Economy framework, as higher incomes would allow Malaysians to save more consistently over the long term.
Government Aims For Stronger Retirement Protection
While EPF initiatives have helped more members improve their savings, challenges remain for workers with unstable incomes, including gig workers and those outside the formal employment sector.
The government said it will continue working with EPF to strengthen contribution incentives, expand social protection measures and improve retirement savings adequacy.
With nearly six in 10 active contributors still below the Basic Savings benchmark, ensuring Malaysians have enough disposable income and stable employment opportunities remains a key factor in building stronger retirement security.

Singaporean Driver Pleads Guilty

The man, who is in his 50s, pleaded guilty at the Johor Bahru Sessions Court after being caught filling his Singapore-registered Honda Civic with subsidised RON95 petrol at a petrol station on 9 April.
The offence was uncovered during Op Tiris 4.0, an enforcement operation carried out by officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
Sessions Court Judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim sentenced him to a RM20,000 fine, with an additional three-month jail term if he failed to pay. According to local reports, the driver settled the fine on the very same day.
Why Foreign Vehicles Cannot Buy RON95

Malaysia has prohibited foreign-registered vehicles from purchasing subsidised RON95 petrol since 2010.
The subsidy exists to ensure Malaysian taxpayers benefit from government-funded fuel assistance, with eligible Malaysians currently paying RM1.99 per litre for RON95.
Drivers of foreign-registered vehicles are instead required to purchase RON97, which is sold at market prices.
While the restriction has existed for years, enforcement has become significantly stricter since 1 April 2026.
Previously, legal action was primarily taken against petrol station operators found selling subsidised fuel to foreign vehicles. However, under the revised enforcement measures, authorities can now prosecute both petrol station operators and the owners or drivers of foreign-registered vehicles.
This Johor case is believed to be among the first prosecutions under the tougher approach.
Authorities: Subsidies Must Reach The Right People

Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the successful prosecution demonstrates the government's continued commitment to preventing the misuse of controlled goods.
She explained that enforcing the regulations helps protect consumer interests while ensuring Malaysia's subsidised fuel remains available for those it is intended to benefit.
Authorities also reminded the public that purchasing subsidised fuel using a foreign-registered vehicle is an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Under the law, first-time offenders can face fines of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders face even harsher penalties, including fines of up to RM3 million and jail terms of up to five years.
Companies or petrol stations found supplying subsidised fuel illegally may also face fines reaching RM2 million, increasing to RM5 million for repeat offences.
A Costly Attempt To Save On Fuel

Authorities did not reveal how much fuel the driver purchased.
However, the RM20,000 penalty far outweighs any potential savings he could have made by choosing subsidised RON95 instead of RON97.
At the current price of RM4.00 per litre for RON97 in Malaysia, the fine is equivalent to around 5,000 litres of premium petrol &mdash; enough to fill a typical 50-litre passenger vehicle approximately 100 times.
The case highlights just how seriously Malaysian authorities are now treating attempts to misuse the country's fuel subsidy programme.
Malaysia Vs Singapore Fuel Prices

The incident also highlights the significant difference in fuel prices between Malaysia and Singapore.

In comparison, fuel prices in Singapore are considerably higher due to the absence of fuel subsidies, higher taxes and market-based pricing. Based on current pump prices, petrol in Singapore costs approximately RM9.30 to RM11.30 per litre, depending on the fuel grade and retailer, while diesel is priced at roughly RM9.00 to RM9.70 per litre.
The sizeable price gap has long made Malaysia an attractive destination for motorists crossing the border to refuel. However, Malaysian authorities have reiterated that subsidised RON95 is reserved exclusively for eligible Malaysian motorists, with stricter enforcement now targeting both petrol station operators and foreign drivers who attempt to misuse the subsidy.

The removal of the RM1 interbank ATM withdrawal fee has been welcomed by many Malaysians, but it has also caused some confusion after several people reported they were still being charged despite the new policy taking effect on 1 July.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has now clarified that the fee waiver does not apply to every ATM in the country. Instead, it only covers ATMs and Smart Recycler Machines (SRMs) that are owned and operated by banks participating in the shared ATM network.
If you are withdrawing cash from one bank's ATM using another bank's debit card, you should no longer be charged the RM1 fee&mdash;provided the machine belongs to a participating bank.
Why Are Some ATMs Still Charging RM1?

These privately operated ATMs are not included in the industry-wide initiative announced by Malaysia's banking sector and therefore remain free to impose the transaction fee.
Fahmi explained that these machines generally operate under separate commercial agreements that differ from those governing the country's banking network.
How To Tell Whether An ATM Is Covered

If you're unsure whether you'll be charged, Fahmi says there's a simple way to tell.
Bank-operated ATMs usually display a prominent bank logo, making them easy to identify.
Meanwhile, independently operated ATMs typically do not carry the branding of a single bank and are instead managed by third-party operators.
As a result, customers using these privately operated machines should still expect the RM1 interbank withdrawal fee to apply.
What Should You Do If You're Still Charged At A Bank ATM?

According to him, the central bank will investigate whether the charge resulted from a technical issue, an operational error or non-compliance with the new directive by the financial institution involved.
Consumers are also encouraged to keep their transaction receipts or bank statements showing the deduction, as these can help speed up the investigation process.
Bank Negara has been tasked with ensuring banks comply with the new fee waiver and protecting consumers from being wrongly charged.
More Than 14,000 Bank ATMs Now Offer Free Interbank Withdrawals
