For many of us, we are fortunate to live relatively healthy lives, free from significant complications or overwhelming challenges. Sure, we experience ups and downs, but life generally remains manageable.
However, one harsh reality often overlooked is the profound impact of losing one's limbs. This is a struggle many cannot fully grasp until it&rsquo;s too late. The daily challenges faced by those without limbs are immense, yet often underappreciated.
Tragically, one Malaysian working in Singapore was dealt a devastating blow when a severe bacterial infection led to sepsis, causing her to lose all four limbs and her life savings.
A Common Fever Ended Up Leading To Sepsis

According to Sin Chew, the 37-year-old beautician began feeling unwell in October last year, experiencing a fever, stomachache, and general weakness. Despite seeking medical attention, her condition did not improve. Initially thinking it was food poisoning, she was prescribed medication. However, during a follow-up visit, the doctor identified more serious symptoms and sent her to the emergency room, where she subsequently lost consciousness.
When the woman from Ipoh regained consciousness in the hospital, she found herself surrounded by her family, who had rushed to her side. Doctors informed her of her critical condition, advising her family to prepare for the worst. She was diagnosed with a worsening bacterial infection. Her heart was weak, and her brain was not receiving enough oxygen, putting her at risk of brain death.
The Need To Put Her Health Forward With A Difficult Decision

The doctor recommended an injection to ensure blood flow to her heart and maintain proper brain function. However, this treatment came with a significant risk: it could result in the loss of some body parts. Initially, her family believed only her fingers might need to be amputated. However, her condition worsened, and her limbs began to turn black, becoming heavy and difficult to control as the infection spread up her arms and legs.

During this period, the doctors delivered the grim news that her body's cells had perished due to the bacterial infection, resulting in sepsis. The only viable option to save her life was to undergo amputation.
Medical Expenses Were Extremely Costly And Drained Her Savings
After extensive discussions with her family and shedding tears throughout, she ultimately made the difficult decision to undergo hand amputation on November 29, 2023, followed by leg amputation on December 19, 2023. Regrettably, the exorbitant cost of the procedures drained her life savings, totalling RM1.04 million in medical and follow-up expenses.
She elaborated further, revealing that her condition and loss of income have left her entirely dependent on her sister for care. Additionally, during her illness, doctors discovered a perforation in her colon, necessitating the attachment of a stoma bag to her abdomen to aid in defecation.

Presently, she has begun using prosthetic legs, which come with a hefty price tag of over RM52,000. However, she cannot afford prosthetics for her hands at this time, which are estimated to cost around RM48,800. She mentioned that she is currently paying installments for her legs and relies solely on them for now.
According to the infectious disease specialist at Farrer Park Hospital, cases of bacterial infections rarely result in amputation, making her situation an extreme one. The doctor speculated that this drastic outcome may stem from either a pre-existing illness or delayed medical intervention.
Hopes To Stay In Singapore For Treatment

&ldquo;I have been receiving treatment in Singapore before and I had to go back to the hospital for follow-up visits, so the doctor wrote a letter for me to inform the authorities of my situation. I also hope to continue receiving treatment in Singapore,&rdquo; she said.
Maintaining a positive outlook, she looks forward to resuming work once she has recovered fully and hopes to offer guidance to others who may face similar challenges in the future. Additionally, she expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support of her family and friends during difficult times. She also extended gratitude to her former employer, a beauty salon, for assisting with a portion of her medical expenses, enabling her to focus on her recovery without financial worries.

Despite life's curveballs, maintaining a positive attitude can make all the difference. Stay resilient, and remember that there's always a way to overcome obstacles and emerge stronger on the other side.

One thing we can all agree is that no matter how some ideas may bring joy to one person, it&rsquo;s not often that netizens will agree with their ideas and with social media alone, it&rsquo;s also brought up the whole cancel movement which also involves the influencer getting mocked online.

Lately, there has been an unsettling wave of news surrounding the treatment of training cadets. Malaysians were previously shaken by the tragic death of Navy Cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain. Since then, additional cases have emerged, including one cadet suffering severe burns from a hot iron and another enduring a fractured spine and ribs due to bullying by a senior.

This time, concerns are mounting over the mismanagement and oversight in cadet training programs, bringing more troubling issues to light.
Tragic Death of UiTM Cadet Sparks Outcry Over Training Practices

The sudden death of Muhammad Amir Rusyaidi Muhammad Zaidi, a 25-year-old UiTM Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU) cadet, has brought intense scrutiny over alleged abuse and negligence during his training. Amir passed away on November 13, 2024, after falling into a coma following an unscheduled training session on November 10.
His father, Muhammad Zaidi Abdul Rahman, recounted harrowing details of the incident, claiming his son was subjected to severe physical abuse. The training included having his chest stepped on, being ridden like a horse while performing horse-like movements, and forced to jump like a kangaroo. Shockingly, these acts were reportedly recorded by the trainer.
Zaidi also revealed that after Amir collapsed, he was left under the scorching sun for at least 30 minutes. Instead of calling an ambulance, the trainer transported him to Shah Alam Hospital, bypassing the nearer UiTM Medical Centre. Zaidi was only informed of his son&rsquo;s condition when the hospital sought consent to provide breathing aid. Tragically, Amir succumbed to his condition three days later.
Allegations of Negligence and Calls for Justice

Zaidi accused the trainer of failing to inform the university about Amir&rsquo;s condition, highlighting an alleged cover-up attempt. The family only discovered the full extent of Amir's ordeal after speaking with one of his friends following the burial.
Further exacerbating the situation, the trainer reportedly called Zaidi on November 11, asking Amir to attend class to avoid being marked absent. When confronted, the trainer admitted that the incident had not been reported to the university until after disciplinary pressure.
Initially, Shah Alam police have classified the case as a sudden death, while UiTM ROTU Deputy Commandant Ariff Md Ab Malik has called for a thorough investigation by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). This includes examining whether training protocols were followed and assessing candidate fitness standards.
Heat Stroke Identified as Cause of Death

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that Amir's death resulted from multiple organ failure due to heat stroke. Initial investigations revealed no external injuries, and the incident remains classified as sudden death.
According to Hussein, Amir joined UiTM ROTU in late October and underwent a fitness test before starting basic training. On the day of the incident, he was allegedly punished with push-ups for lagging behind during a running exercise.
Amir was later admitted to the Shah Alam Hospital&rsquo;s ICU after showing symptoms of high fever, cramps, and dehydration. Despite efforts to stabilize him, his condition deteriorated, leading to his death on November 13.
Police have recorded statements from nine witnesses, including Amir&rsquo;s father, who filed a police report on November 15. The Armed Forces have pledged a thorough investigation into allegations of abuse, with calls for anyone with information to assist in the probe.
Amir&rsquo;s death highlights a recurring and troubling pattern of abuse within military and cadet training programs. From the fatal assault of navy cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain in 2017 to other cases of extreme bullying and physical harm, these incidents reveal systemic issues that demand urgent reform. His family&rsquo;s pursuit of accountability serves as a call to action to address these longstanding problems and ensure the safety and dignity of future trainees.
