<p>Have you ever heard the saying, "there's no such thing as too much food"? Often, we find room for dessert no matter how full we are. Well, that&rsquo;s not always the case, especially with Nasi Kandar. It's delicious but can quickly make you 'jelak' if you eat it too often.</p>
<p>Malaysia truly is a food heaven for locals and tourists alike, with every state offering its own unique flavours and varieties. Many of us wouldn't mind planning a holiday solely to embark on a food adventure around Malaysia, with Penang being a top destination.</p>
<p>Last week, we shared how Singaporean competitive eater Zermatt Neo shattered the Nasi Kandar sales record by ordering a plate of RM300 Nasi Kandar at Nasi Kandar Sulaiman (NKS).</p>

<p>In our previous post, we only mentioned that Zermatt Neo's Nasi Kandar meal cost RM300 and that he brought his own plate for the challenge. Now, we have more details, and they're quite surprising.</p>
<p>Neo, a competitive eater, consumed a plate of Nasi Kandar weighing 8kg. While comments on NKS&rsquo;s Facebook claimed he took around 2 hours to finish, Neo actually completed the meal in just one hour. Even more astonishingly, he managed this feat on only one hour of sleep the entire day.</p>
<p>So if you&rsquo;re wondering what made the Nasi Kandar so expensive, he had had:</p>

Having set a new record, Neo challenged anyone to try the 8kg Nasi Kandar themselves, cautioning that the rice base will quickly fill up even the heartiest eaters.</p>

<p>If you have been following local news recently, you may have come across reports claiming that removable sunshades, curtains and blinds fitted to vehicle windows could be considered illegal in Malaysia. The reports quickly sparked confusion among motorists, many of whom rely on affordable sunshades to reduce heat inside their vehicles during Malaysia&rsquo;s hot weather.</p>
<p>Following widespread public concern and debate online, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has now stepped forward to clarify the situation, assuring motorists that they will not face enforcement action as long as their sunshades do not obstruct the driver&rsquo;s view while driving.</p>
<p><strong>Why The Issue Became A Talking Point</strong></p>

<p>The controversy began after the Road Transport Department (JPJ) reminded motorists that removable sunshades, curtains, blinds and similar accessories attached to vehicle windows while a vehicle is in motion could potentially constitute an offence under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991.</p>
<p>According to JPJ, such accessories may create blind spots, reduce a driver&rsquo;s field of vision and make it more difficult to observe surrounding traffic, pedestrians and changing road conditions. The department also noted that window coverings could hinder enforcement officers from observing activities inside a vehicle, including seatbelt usage and mobile phone violations.</p>
<p>The reminder led to widespread discussion across social media, with many Malaysians questioning why inexpensive mesh sunshades could potentially attract penalties while heavily tinted rear windows remain permissible under current regulations.</p>
<p>For many drivers, removable sunshades have become a practical solution to combat Malaysia&rsquo;s tropical heat. Basic clip-on or magnetic shades can be purchased for a relatively low cost, whereas premium heat-reducing tint films often cost significantly more.</p>
<p><strong>Anthony Loke Clarifies Government&rsquo;s Position</strong></p>
<p>In response to the growing confusion, Loke clarified that while provisions relating to removable sunshades do exist within current regulations, authorities are not actively targeting motorists who use them responsibly.</p>
<p>He explained that the Ministry of Transport has not instructed JPJ to carry out enforcement operations against motorists using removable sunshades that do not interfere with visibility.</p>
<p>According to the minister, JPJ&rsquo;s director-general has likewise not issued any directive requiring officers to take action against motorists simply for having removable sunshades installed.</p>
<p>Instead, enforcement action would only be considered if the accessory obstructs the driver&rsquo;s vision and creates a potential safety hazard on the road.</p>
<p><strong>Road Safety Remains The Priority</strong></p>

<p>While clarifying that sunshades are not currently an enforcement priority, Loke stressed that visibility remains an important safety consideration.</p>
<p>Drivers are still expected to ensure that any sunshade, curtain or window covering does not block their ability to see surrounding traffic, pedestrians, road signs, side mirrors or other critical sightlines needed for safe driving.</p>
<p>The minister explained that JPJ&rsquo;s current focus remains on offences that pose a much greater risk to public safety, including illegal street racing, mat rempit activities, drunk driving and reckless driving.</p>
<p>These offences, he said, have a far greater impact on road safety and therefore receive greater enforcement attention than removable sunshades.</p>

<p>The video initially appeared to be a light-hearted review of the airport&rsquo;s nature-inspired attraction, with Ivor describing it as Malaysia&rsquo;s version of Jewel Changi Airport. However, a separately edited clip soon began circulating online, leading many netizens to believe she had criticised the installation, mocked Malaysia, and suggested the country was lagging behind its regional neighbour.</p>

<p>The rafflesia structures were designed to illuminate at night, creating a different atmosphere within the transit area, while the hornbill was carefully handcrafted to serve as a symbolic representation of Malaysia&rsquo;s biodiversity.</p>
<p>The creators stressed that the installations were neither imported nor copied from elsewhere.</p>

<p>The team also addressed questions regarding visible black cables within the display, clarifying that these were fibre optic wires used for lighting effects and were designed to be both UV-resistant and water-resistant.</p>

<p>Following the clarification, many Malaysians came to the defence of the installation team.</p>
<p>Several social media users argued that describing the pieces as &ldquo;fake&rdquo; misunderstood the purpose of an art installation, which is not meant to replicate reality perfectly but rather to create an immersive experience.</p>

<p>Pizza lovers in Malaysia now have another major name to add to their list, as American pizza giant Little Caesars has officially opened its first outlet in the country.</p>
<p>The world&rsquo;s third-largest pizza chain officially launched its Malaysian debut on 24 May at Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, marking the brand&rsquo;s long-awaited entry into the local fast-food scene.</p>
<p>Located at 39G, Jalan SS21/37 in Damansara Utama, the outlet immediately drew large crowds during its opening weekend, with pizzas reportedly selling out due to overwhelming demand from curious Malaysians eager to finally try the chain made famous through American television shows, films and social media.</p>
<p><strong>A Brand Malaysians Already Recognise</strong></p>

<p>For years, many Malaysians had only seen the brand&rsquo;s famous orange branding, HOT-N-READY pizzas and Crazy Bread in American sitcoms, YouTube videos and TikTok food reviews. Now, customers can finally experience the brand for themselves without having to travel abroad.</p>
<p>Founded in Detroit in 1959 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, Little Caesars started as a single family-owned pizza restaurant before growing into one of the world&rsquo;s largest pizza chains. Today, the company operates across all 50 US states as well as 31 countries and territories worldwide, making it the world&rsquo;s largest family-owned pizza company.</p>
<p><strong>HOT-N-READY Pizzas Finally Arrive In Malaysia</strong></p>

<p>The Malaysian outlet introduces several of Little Caesars&rsquo; most recognisable menu items, including its iconic HOT-N-READY Classic Pepperoni Pizza and Crazy Puffs Pepperoni.</p>
<p>Globally, the brand is known for its affordable pricing, quick grab-and-go concept and signature items such as Crazy Bread, which helped build its reputation as a convenient and budget-friendly pizza chain.</p>
<p>At the same time, the Malaysian menu also includes flavours tailored to local tastes. Among the options introduced are Chicken Hawaiian, 3 Cheese Edge to Edge and Classic Veggie Pizza, offering a balance between international favourites and flavours more familiar to local diners.</p>
<p>The company said the aim is to combine fresh ingredients, convenience and affordability while adapting to Malaysia&rsquo;s vibrant food culture.</p>
<p><strong>Expansion Plans Already Underway</strong></p>

<p>Malaysia&rsquo;s first outlet appears to be only the beginning of Little Caesars&rsquo; local expansion plans.</p>
<p>The company has already confirmed that additional outlets are expected to open in the coming weeks, with another branch scheduled to launch in Bandar Puteri Puchong in July 2026 alongside a larger grand opening celebration.</p>
<p>The expansion is being led by franchisees Dato&rsquo; Vincent Choo and Datin Cynthia Cheong, who already operate several quick-service restaurant brands in Malaysia. According to the franchise partners, they believe there is strong demand locally for affordable yet high-quality pizza offerings.</p>
<p>Little Caesars&rsquo; global retail president and CEO, Paula Vissing, also described Malaysia as an exciting market due to its strong food culture and communal dining habits.</p>

<p>Long-established names such as Domino&rsquo;s and Pizza Hut continue to dominate the market, while brands like Papa John&rsquo;s still maintain a loyal fanbase among Malaysian consumers.</p>
<p>However, Little Caesars appears to be positioning itself differently by leaning heavily into affordability, speed and American nostalgia &mdash; particularly through its HOT-N-READY concept, which focuses on fast pick-up meals without long waiting times.</p>
<p>The chain is also betting on strong brand recognition among younger consumers who have grown familiar with the company online long before its arrival in Malaysia.</p>
<p><strong>A Fresh Push Into Southeast Asia</strong></p>
<p>Interestingly, Malaysia&rsquo;s launch also signals a renewed Southeast Asian expansion effort for Little Caesars.</p>

Little Caesars Officially Lands In Malaysia With First Outlet In Petaling Jaya

<p>Starbucks Malaysia has officially unveiled the Kopi Creator Kolektif (KCK) Class of 2026, introducing 10 promising local creatives selected to take part in a creator development programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of Malaysian musicians and filmmakers.</p>
<p>Announced in conjunction with World Creativity and Innovation Day, the initiative features five musicians and five filmmakers chosen through an open call earlier this year. The selected finalists will now undergo a series of industry-led mentorship sessions, workshops, and masterclasses before presenting their original works during a live showcase on 16 May 2026 at Starbucks Reserve&reg; IOI Mall Damansara.</p>
<p>The programme reflects Starbucks Malaysia&rsquo;s continued efforts to support homegrown creativity while providing emerging artists with opportunities to gain exposure, refine their craft, and connect with industry professionals.</p>
<p><strong>More Than Just A Coffeehouse</strong></p>

<p>Kopi Creator Kolektif was created as a platform to support young Malaysian talent by bringing together aspiring creatives, mentors, and creative communities under one initiative.</p>
<p>The programme is rooted in Starbucks&rsquo; long-standing &ldquo;Third Place&rdquo; philosophy, which positions its coffeehouses as welcoming spaces beyond home and work where people can gather, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections.</p>
<p>According to Starbucks Malaysia, caf&eacute;s today have evolved into more than just places for food and drinks. The company cited a 2024 local study involving 230 university students, which found that caf&eacute;s are often used as spaces for discussions, assignments, social gatherings, and creative collaboration, with many respondents describing them as a &ldquo;second home&rdquo;.</p>
<p>Zakiah Hanim Md Zaki, Director of Marketing &amp; Loyalty at Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company Sdn Bhd, said the company sees its coffeehouses as spaces where creativity and community can thrive together.</p>
<p>She shared that it was inspiring to witness Malaysian creative talents coming together through the programme, adding that Starbucks was proud to provide a platform where local stories and artistic expression could be discovered and celebrated.</p>
<p><strong>Mentorship From Industry Players</strong></p>

Finalists will also gain access to professional studio facilities and industry-grade equipment to help refine their material ahead of the showcase.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the film cohort will be mentored by Weekend Boys Studio together with Multimedia University&rsquo;s Faculty of Cinematic Arts. Their sessions will centre on storytelling, concept development, and production techniques from idea creation through to screen execution.</p>
<p>Director and film mentor Adam Zainal described initiatives like KCK as important platforms for emerging creatives, noting that a strong creative culture depends on giving new voices room to experiment, grow, and share their perspectives with wider audiences.</p>
<p>Music mentor and Breaking Music co-founder Isaac Ravi also praised the initiative, saying opportunities like these can significantly impact emerging artists and help open doors within the industry.</p>
<p>He added that the Class of 2026 already showed strong promise and expressed excitement to see how the finalists would develop throughout the programme.</p>
<p><strong>Live Showcase Happening This May</strong></p>

<p>The showcase will also serve as a platform for Malaysians to discover new local talent and support rising creatives within the country&rsquo;s growing arts scene.</p>
<p>At the end of the event, one winner from each category will receive prizes valued at RM10,000. The winning musician will earn the opportunity to record a four-track EP, while the winning filmmaker will receive funding and support for the production of an original short film.</p>

<p>Kopi Creator Kolektif first debuted in late 2025 through intimate live music sessions held at Starbucks coffeehouses, featuring local acts such as Amanda Imani, An Honest Mistake, and RESORT.</p>
<p>With the inclusion of filmmakers in this year&rsquo;s edition, the platform is now expanding beyond music in an effort to further strengthen Malaysia&rsquo;s creative ecosystem and create more opportunities for young talents to showcase their work.</p>
