Lately, the fashion industry has been buzzing with revelations from an Italian court exposing two Italian luxury powerhouses for paying minimal production costs on handbags that fetch thousands of dollars at retail.

Italian prosecutors in Milan launched an investigation against Louis Vuitton Mo&euml;t Hennessy (LVMH) subsidiary Dior's use of third-party suppliers in recent months, uncovering exploitation of workers who produced handbags for a fraction of their retail price. According to a Reuters report based on documents from the June investigation, Dior paid a supplier $57 to manufacture the handbag model code PO312YKY, which retailed for $2,780, excluding raw materials like leather. The prosecution document noted that Dior's unit failed to implement "appropriate measures to verify the actual working conditions or technical capabilities of the contracted companies."
The Dior investigation centred on four small suppliers in the Milan area, employing a total of 32 staff, including two immigrants lacking legal status and seven working without proper documentation. Italian authorities conducted inspections at Pelletteria Elisabetta Yang SRL, New Leather Italy SRLS, AZ Operations SRLS, and Davide Albertario Milano SRL between March and April.
Pelletteria Elisabetta Yang and Davide Albertario Milano were identified as direct suppliers to Manufactures Dior SRL. Pelletteria Elisabetta Yang invoiced Manufactures Dior 752,881 euros for the fiscal year 2023/24, while Davide Albertario invoiced 737,623 euros for 2024. The investigation revealed that workers lived and worked in substandard hygiene and health conditions that did not meet ethical standards.
According to the 34-page ruling, workers were required to reside at the workplace to ensure round-the-clock availability. Data on electricity consumption indicated continuous production cycles, even during holidays. Furthermore, safety features on machinery were reportedly removed to increase operational speed.

After the incident, LVHM did not immediately respond to requests for further comment. However, court documents revealed that Dior had submitted a memo highlighting its supply-chain improvements. Given LVHM's extensive brand connections, the investigation extended to contractors of Giorgio Armani, where the luxury company was similarly accused of inadequate supplier oversight.
Armani reportedly paid contractors $99 per bag for production, which was later sold for over $1,900 in stores. An Armani Group spokesperson later stated:
"The company has always implemented control and prevention measures to mitigate the risk of abuses in our supply chain."
As a result of these findings, judges in Milan have ordered both companies' units to be placed under judicial administration for a year, permitting them to continue operations during this period.

"It's not an isolated issue limited to specific production batches, but a widespread and entrenched manufacturing approach," stated the court document.
They emphasized mistreatment of workers, violations of labour laws concerning health, and safety, and prolonged working hours for minimal compensation. Another major concern highlighted was unfair competition disadvantaging law-abiding firms, and allowing non-compliant brands to gain market dominance.

In his early content, Vitaly was known for shock-based humour, but in recent years, his antics have escalated into confrontational &ldquo;in real life&rdquo; (IRL) stunts. In April 2025, during a series of live streams in the Philippines, he was accused of harassing locals, attempting to kiss a security guard without consent, and even allegedly stealing.
The resulting public outcry was swift, with Filipino authorities responding by detaining him. He added that foreign nationals, regardless of celebrity status, must respect local laws or face legal consequences.
The denial of bail and transfer to BJMP Muntinlupa suggest Philippine authorities are taking a tough stance, especially after rising public concern over foreign social media influencers allegedly abusing their platform to disrespect host countries.
Prison Conditions, Health Decline, and Public Backlash
Following his arrest on 2 April 2025, Vitaly&rsquo;s conditions in custody have drawn attention. Reports surfaced alleging that the YouTuber was being held in a sweltering cell with no air conditioning. Images released on social media on 16 June showed a visibly thinner Vitaly, sparking concern among fans. Observers noted significant weight and muscle loss, with noticeable changes in his facial structure.

Initially, some reports speculated he could be detained for up to three years, but legal analysts now estimate a potential sentence closer to 18 months &mdash; if found guilty. President Ferdinand &ldquo;Bongbong&rdquo; Marcos Jr himself weighed in on the controversy. In a public statement, he condemned the YouTuber&rsquo;s actions, saying: &ldquo;One of the things we saw this Sunday was the infuriating behaviour of a foreign vlogger toward our fellow citizens. Whether he was joking or not, what Filipino wouldn&rsquo;t feel their blood boil watching that?&rdquo;
Deportation Only After Due Process
Once the local court cases are resolved, Zdorovetskiy is expected to be deported from the Philippines as an &ldquo;undesirable alien.&rdquo; However, complications remain. Both the United States and Russia have thus far declined to take custody of him, potentially prolonging his stay in the Philippines even after sentencing.
The BI reiterated that deportation cannot proceed until all legal matters are settled. Commissioner Viado made clear that hospitality must never be mistaken for tolerance of disrespect or illegal activity.
&ldquo;Foreign nationals are welcome in the Philippines&mdash;but they are expected to obey our laws and respect our communities. Those who choose otherwise must face the appropriate legal consequences,&rdquo; he said.
Until then, Zdorovetskiy remains behind bars in Muntinlupa with no bail, no release date, and a trial that could stretch on for months.

This aunt, now estimated to be around 74 years old, is presumed to be her only surviving family member. Her colleagues, heartbroken by the manner in which she passed, have since appealed for public assistance in finding this relative so that Lo can be laid to rest by family, not strangers.

Integrity Issues Plague PDRM Amid Officer Misconduct Scandal

The recent viral misconduct case is just the tip of the iceberg for the PDRM, as broader concerns about internal discipline and professionalism continue to mount. Between January and May 2025, 492 officers were subjected to disciplinary action, with 59 dismissed and 146 suspended, according to Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, Director of PDRM&rsquo;s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).
The most common offences were integrity-related violations (333 cases), followed by governance issues (45), drug offences (42), criminal acts (38), syariah breaches (19), and corruption (15). The figures were revealed during Azri&rsquo;s visit to the newly officiated Maran District Police Headquarters, which serves over 115,000 residents.
Public complaints about police misconduct also surged, with 2,637 reports filed in just five months&mdash;1,892 formal complaints and 745 public tips. In response, PDRM launched the Aduan JIPS PDRM app, offering a more transparent platform for the public to report wrongdoing.
End of a Career and a Call for Reform
Azri&rsquo;s remarks came as part of his final tour of duty, with his retirement scheduled for 26 June 2025, marking the end of a 37-year career in the police service. His departure comes at a pivotal moment, as PDRM faces mounting pressure to reform and rebuild trust with the public.
While the current case may involve a single officer, it has highlighted systemic concerns around supervision, discipline, and the need for continued vigilance against abuses of power.
As public trust hangs in the balance, PDRM&rsquo;s response to this case&mdash;and to misconduct more broadly&mdash;may determine how effectively the force can evolve to meet modern standards of accountability and transparency.
