In a statement to Parliament, Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that police station gates nationwide will close from 10 pm as part of enhanced security measures.
This decision follows the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor Bahru on May 17, which resulted in the deaths of two officers and injured another. The attacker was believed to be a member of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), an Indonesian-based militant Islamist group founded in 1993.

Saifuddin highlighted that closing the gates at 10 pm aims to balance public access to report crimes with the safety of police officers.
"We have to balance the police station where people lodge complaints; at the same time, the police station is also a target. So we have to balance the two needs," he stated, citing the Ulu Tiram incident as an example.

"In terms of the logistics situation at each police station, whether it's lights, fences, and so on, we issued instructions to immediately provide information and it will go through a process for us to improve."

IGP Clarifies That Police Station Services Are Still Available Around The Clock

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that the public can continue to lodge complaints and reports as usual. The instruction for 10pm closures will be implemented after the standard operating procedure (SOP) is presented to Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Kassim.
"As stressed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, we should balance the role of the police station as a place where the public lodges reports and, at the same time, the stations are also targets of threats, so we balance both needs," he said.
The closing of the stations does not mean they are not operational. &ldquo;It will still function normally with service delivery to the public as a priority,&rdquo; he said.
Currently, the 10pm closure applies to police stations in remote or rural areas. During a Dewan Rakyat session, Saifuddin Nasution mentioned that the Home Ministry had ordered the gates of police stations to close after 10pm for security following the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor. He emphasized that this measure balances the public's need to access police stations with the safety of on-duty personnel.
Perhaps Saifuddin needs to clarify his statements further, but one crucial issue that remains unanswered is where the public can park their cars if the station gates are closed. Many stations have designated parking areas for visitors, and those parking outside must ensure they do not obstruct traffic in the area.

Her mother, Su Xingping (transliteration), reported that there had been no signs or arguments the day before that might have suggested Yi Xuan was planning to leave. The sudden nature of her disappearance has added to the family's anxiety, particularly given a troubling incident involving the same daughter just days earlier.
A Troubling Incident Just Days Before
On 23 April, five days before she went missing, Yi Xuan was unexpectedly picked up from school by an unfamiliar man. The family only found out through school authorities, who informed them that a Chinese man in a Proton Waja had collected her. The family had not authorised anyone to do so.
Fearing the worst, Su immediately lodged a police report. Fortunately, Yi Xuan returned home later that day unharmed &mdash; but refused to share where she had been taken or what had happened during her time away. The silence from the teenager left her family deeply unsettled.

&ldquo;He&rsquo;s in his 40s, but we don&rsquo;t have his real name, and we don&rsquo;t know what he does for a living. We hardly communicate with him. After the last time he picked up my daughter, I asked her what happened, but she just wouldn&rsquo;t say anything,&rdquo; said Su.
The family has no idea when &ldquo;Ah Long&rdquo; began contacting Yi Xuan or the nature of their relationship. The lack of transparency has only deepened fears that the teenager may have been manipulated or lured away.
Phones Switched Off and a Home Left Empty
After Yi Xuan&rsquo;s disappearance on 28 April, the family attempted to contact both her and &ldquo;Ah Long&rdquo; by phone. Neither responded, and both devices have remained switched off since. In desperation, Su went to &ldquo;Ah Long&rsquo;s&rdquo; known residence, only to find that the premises appeared abandoned.
&ldquo;My family and I have searched everywhere she usually goes &mdash; parks, caf&eacute;s, and hangouts she likes. We even received a tip that someone saw a girl matching her description in Yong Peng, and we rushed there, but so far we&rsquo;ve found nothing,&rdquo; said Su.
A Family Desperate for Answers
Yi Xuan&rsquo;s sudden silence, her connection to a mysterious older man, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have left her family deeply worried and emotionally drained. Her mother expressed frustration over the lack of leads and the fear that something sinister may have happened.
&ldquo;She didn&rsquo;t leave any messages. No clues. She just vanished,&rdquo; Su said, holding back tears. &ldquo;We are so afraid for her. If anyone has seen her or knows anything, we just want her home safe.&rdquo;

The case began when Somyi accused Mr. B of attempted sexual assault. Initially, her claims led to an official police investigation. However, upon reviewing CCTV footage from the day of the alleged incident, inconsistencies were found between her statements and the recorded evidence. While she claimed she had fled the office in distress, surveillance footage showed her walking calmly around the premises and even embracing the CEO at one point.
Prosecutors suggested that Somyi had fabricated the allegations in an attempt to pressure Mr. B, who was reportedly in a relationship with another woman at the time. They further argued that her behaviour was inconsistent with that of a typical victim and accused her of attempting to manipulate the situation to her advantage.
While Somyi&rsquo;s defence team argued that her judgment was impaired due to alcohol consumption and challenged the notion of a "perfect victim," the court ultimately rejected her claims. The judge stated, &ldquo;The crime of false accusation is a serious offence that can subject an innocent individual to wrongful criminal punishment. The defendant&rsquo;s act of falsely accusing and providing misleading statements to investigative authorities is morally reprehensible.&rdquo;
Release Following Appeal
Following her conviction, Somyi appealed the verdict. In June 2024, the court agreed to suspend her original 18-month sentence for two years, under the condition that she complete 160 hours of community service. Consequently, Somyi was released from prison.
Despite being granted a suspended sentence, public sentiment remained largely critical, with many questioning her credibility and expressing concern over her future activities in the entertainment industry.
Previous Scandal: Transition to Adult Content Broadcasting

The announcement was made via a post on the official Facebook page of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), encouraging eligible students to seize this opportunity promptly.
Convertible Loan Sponsorship for Outstanding Bumiputera Students

The programme offers a Convertible Loan sponsorship designed to support high-achieving Bumiputera students who have successfully completed their 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.
This sponsorship enables recipients to pursue Preparatory and First Degree studies either locally or overseas. The ultimate goal is to nurture Malaysia&rsquo;s next generation of professionals in key industries.
Fields of Study and Destinations
Under this initiative, selected students will have the opportunity to further their studies in prestigious institutions across Japan, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Malaysia.
The fields of study supported under the programme include:

General Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfil the following general conditions to be considered for the 2025 JPA-MARA Special Programme:

<li>Ethnic Background and Citizenship:</li>

<li>The applicant and at least one parent must be of Malay or Bumiputera descent and must be Malaysian citizens.</li>
</ul>
<li>Health Requirements:</li>
<ul>
<li>Applicants must be free from any chronic, infectious diseases, or medical conditions requiring continuous treatment, and must be certified medically fit to complete their studies.</li>
</ul>
<li>Blacklist Status:</li>
<ul>
<li>Neither the applicant, nor their parents, should be blacklisted by the Public Service Department (JPA) or involved in any ongoing legal action against JPA.</li>
</ul>
<li>Sponsorship Status:</li>
<ul>
<li>Applicants who are successfully offered this sponsorship must not be in receipt of any other financial aid or scholarships for studies at the same academic level.</li>
</ul>
<li>SPM Examination:</li>
<ul>
<li>Candidates must have sat for the SPM 2024 examination for the first time, either through a government secondary school or as a private candidate.</li>
</ul>
<li>Age Limit:</li>
<ul>
<li>Applicants must be below 19 years old as of 31 December 2024.</li>
<li>Transfer students are given a slight extension and must not be above 20 years old by the same date.</li>
</ul>

A Malaysian woman&rsquo;s routine day turned into a nightmare when she discovered that a vital component of her car had been stolen &mdash; despite parking it in a paid, supposedly secure facility. The incident, which occurred on 22 April at the Awan Besar LRT station, has since sparked wider concerns over vehicle security at public transport parking lots in Kuala Lumpur.
The woman had parked her Toyota at approximately 7am before proceeding to work as usual. Upon returning to retrieve her car around 7pm, she was met with an unexpected mechanical issue. As she turned the ignition key, she was startled by a loud "boom" sound emanating from beneath her vehicle. Alarmed and fearing that the engine had suffered serious damage, she quickly shut off the engine and tried again, only to encounter the same noise.
Investigation Reveals Catalytic Converter Theft

Unsure of the problem, the woman enlisted the help of bystanders and conducted a closer inspection. A visual check revealed deep scratch marks along the undercarriage, a tell-tale sign of tampering. It was soon confirmed that the car's catalytic converter &mdash; a key component responsible for filtering harmful emissions &mdash; had been forcibly removed.
Without this essential part, her car was rendered immobile, compounding her distress as she faced the challenge of arranging immediate repairs while stranded at the station.
The discovery came as a devastating blow, particularly as she had assumed that a paid parking area operated by a major transport company would offer basic security measures against theft.
High-Value Target for Thieves

Subsequent consultations with mechanics shed further light on the incident. She was informed that catalytic converters, particularly those from original Toyota models, are increasingly being targeted by thieves due to their lucrative resale value on the black market.
Containing precious metals such as platinum, rhodium, and palladium, catalytic converters can fetch high prices, making them an attractive target for criminals. Removal can be executed swiftly with basic tools, and in less than ten minutes, a thief can escape with a component worth thousands.
&ldquo;The foreman told me a brand-new catalytic converter could cost over RM4,000," the woman said in her post. &ldquo;Now, I&rsquo;m forced to fork out even more money just to get my car running again.&rdquo;
Financial and Emotional Impact

In addition to the unexpected financial burden, the woman described a deep sense of fear and helplessness stemming from the incident. Forced to consider cheaper alternatives, she found that even second-hand catalytic converters could cost upwards of RM1,000 &mdash; a significant expenditure, particularly for a daily commuter.
&ldquo;I worked so hard to save every bit of money, only for it to be spent like this," she lamented, adding that the incident had severely disrupted her plans and peace of mind.
The emotional toll was compounded by a growing anxiety about the safety of her vehicle &mdash; and indeed, of any vehicle &mdash; left unattended in public parking areas, regardless of whether parking fees are paid.
Disillusionment with Paid Parking Facilities

The woman&rsquo;s frustration was palpable as she questioned the effectiveness of paid parking facilities. &ldquo;Every day I pay for parking fees, but my car still got broken into. What&rsquo;s the point of paying if something like this can still happen?&rdquo; she wrote, echoing the sentiments of many commuters who assume that parking charges include an element of security.
Her experience has cast a spotlight on the vulnerabilities that exist even in supposedly monitored parking zones, where limited surveillance and minimal patrolling make vehicles easy targets for opportunistic thieves.
Police Report Lodged, but Few Answers

In an effort to seek justice, the woman lodged a police report shortly after discovering the theft. However, she was left disappointed with the response she received.

In addition, she contacted RapidKL, the operator responsible for the Awan Besar LRT parking facilities, to report the matter and inquire about security measures. At the time of her post, she stated that she had not yet received any formal response or assistance from the company.
Growing Concern Over Catalytic Converter Theft in Malaysia

Owners of high-risk vehicles, particularly older models of Toyota, Honda, and other Japanese brands, are especially vulnerable due to the higher concentration of valuable metals in their exhaust systems.
Calls for Improved Security Measures
In the wake of the incident, many are calling for better security infrastructure at public parking areas, especially those operated alongside critical transport services. Suggestions have included installing more CCTV cameras with active monitoring, increasing security patrols, and ensuring rapid response capabilities when suspicious activities are detected.
Some have even suggested that parking operators offer insurance options or guarantees as part of their service, to provide recourse for customers who fall victim to theft within their premises.
For now, however, many commuters are left to fend for themselves &mdash; relying on personal vigilance and aftermarket security solutions in the hopes of avoiding similar losses.
