It seems the saga of the Good Vibes Festival is relentless, continuously resurfacing in our news feeds.
You may recall that the 2024 Good Vibes Festival was highly anticipated by Malaysians, but it faced significant backlash on social media for its lacklustre lineup. The situation worsened when the festival was ultimately cancelled, as organisers were compelled to suspend the event out of respect for the coronation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim.

However, the festival's reputation had already been marred before this incident, thanks to an event that occurred during their 10th anniversary in 2023. The concert had to be abruptly cancelled after the first day when The 1975's frontman, Matty Healy, delivered a controversial speech criticising the Malaysian government over LGBT rights and engaged in a public display of affection with bassist Ross MacDonald just a few songs into their set.

RM11 Million Lawsuit Against The 1975 Is Underway

The organiser of Malaysia&rsquo;s Good Vibes Festival has filed a lawsuit against UK band The 1975 and its members individually in the UK High Court, according to US publication Variety. The legal action stems from lead singer Matty Healy kissing his male bandmate Ross MacDonald during their performance on the festival's opening night at the Sepang International Circuit in Selangor in July 2023. This incident led to the festival being shut down.
Festival organiser Future Sound Asia is seeking &pound;1.9 million (~RM11,213,710) in damages, asserting that the band and their management were fully aware of the rules they needed to follow to perform at the event. Organisers noted that the band had previously performed at the 2016 festival and had been informed of the rules, which include no swearing, smoking, removing clothing, or discussing religion. These guidelines were also reiterated multiple times before last year's show.
The Malaysia Central Agency for the Application for Foreign Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (PUSPAL) explicitly prohibits "kissing, kissing a member of the audience, or carrying out such actions among themselves" on stage.

Variety reported that the lawsuit claims PUSPAL initially rejected the band's application due to a 2018 article about Healy&rsquo;s drug addiction and recovery. However, the application was eventually approved after the band appealed and assured compliance with the guidelines.
The lawsuit further alleges that the band initially decided not to perform the night before the show but later chose to protest the guidelines during their performance. This included Healy engaging in a "long pretend passionate embrace&rdquo; with bassist Ross MacDonald.
The suit also accuses Healy of drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and delivering a &ldquo;profanity-laden speech&rdquo; during the show. PUSPAL representatives ordered the band to stop their performance after the kiss, with Healy reportedly being &ldquo;very aggressive&rdquo; towards the officials.
As a result, the festival&rsquo;s licence was revoked the following day, and the final two days of the event were cancelled. Headline acts for the cancelled days included The Kid Laroi and The Strokes. The latter added a second show in Singapore to accommodate fans affected by the cancellation. The 1975 subsequently cancelled their shows in Jakarta and Taipei following the incident.

While performing in Fort Worth, Texas, in October, Healy claimed he was &ldquo;briefly imprisoned&rdquo; after the Malaysia performance and stated during the show that the kiss &ldquo;was not a stunt simply meant to provoke the government,&rdquo; but rather an ongoing part of The 1975's stage show, which had been performed numerous times before.
For now, we&rsquo;ll have to wait and see how Healy and the band respond to the lawsuit. Meanwhile, there&rsquo;s a possibility Healy might continue to criticise the country during his shows, as seen at Lollapalooza. Given his contentious attitude, it seems unlikely he will change his stance, and it's probable the band won&rsquo;t be welcomed back to Malaysia in the future.

A teenage girl from Johor has gone missing under distressing circumstances, prompting urgent calls for <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/594197920784057/permalink/2826033707600456/">public assistance</a>. The 15-year-old, known as Yi Xuan, vanished from her home in Batu Pahat on the morning of 28 April. Her family fears she may have been abducted by a man who previously took her away without explanation.
Early Morning Disappearance Raises Alarm

Yi Xuan&rsquo;s disappearance was discovered by her grandparents, who had stepped out to buy breakfast for her that morning. When they returned, she was nowhere to be found. According to the family, Yi Xuan left the house at approximately 7am without informing anyone, wearing a yellow top and a blue denim skirt.
Her mother, Su Xingping (transliteration), reported that there had been no signs or arguments the day before that might have suggested Yi Xuan was planning to leave. The sudden nature of her disappearance has added to the family's anxiety, particularly given a troubling incident involving the same daughter just days earlier.
A Troubling Incident Just Days Before
On 23 April, five days before she went missing, Yi Xuan was unexpectedly picked up from school by an unfamiliar man. The family only found out through school authorities, who informed them that a Chinese man in a Proton Waja had collected her. The family had not authorised anyone to do so.
Fearing the worst, Su immediately lodged a police report. Fortunately, Yi Xuan returned home later that day unharmed &mdash; but refused to share where she had been taken or what had happened during her time away. The silence from the teenager left her family deeply unsettled.

&ldquo;He&rsquo;s in his 40s, but we don&rsquo;t have his real name, and we don&rsquo;t know what he does for a living. We hardly communicate with him. After the last time he picked up my daughter, I asked her what happened, but she just wouldn&rsquo;t say anything,&rdquo; said Su.
The family has no idea when &ldquo;Ah Long&rdquo; began contacting Yi Xuan or the nature of their relationship. The lack of transparency has only deepened fears that the teenager may have been manipulated or lured away.
Phones Switched Off and a Home Left Empty
After Yi Xuan&rsquo;s disappearance on 28 April, the family attempted to contact both her and &ldquo;Ah Long&rdquo; by phone. Neither responded, and both devices have remained switched off since. In desperation, Su went to &ldquo;Ah Long&rsquo;s&rdquo; known residence, only to find that the premises appeared abandoned.
&ldquo;My family and I have searched everywhere she usually goes &mdash; parks, caf&eacute;s, and hangouts she likes. We even received a tip that someone saw a girl matching her description in Yong Peng, and we rushed there, but so far we&rsquo;ve found nothing,&rdquo; said Su.
A Family Desperate for Answers
Yi Xuan&rsquo;s sudden silence, her connection to a mysterious older man, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have left her family deeply worried and emotionally drained. Her mother expressed frustration over the lack of leads and the fear that something sinister may have happened.
&ldquo;She didn&rsquo;t leave any messages. No clues. She just vanished,&rdquo; Su said, holding back tears. &ldquo;We are so afraid for her. If anyone has seen her or knows anything, we just want her home safe.&rdquo;
Police Reports Filed, Public Urged to Help
