This morning marked the beginning of the quarter-finals for the Olympic Badminton event, and sadly, our Malaysian mixed doubles team, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, saw their Olympic journey come to an end.
They faced the world number #9 pair, Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun from South Korea, and were defeated with scores of 19-21 and 14-21. The match lasted just 41 minutes.

Tang Jie &amp; Ee Wei Disappointed By Their Early Loss
In the first set, the match was tightly contested, with our Malaysian duo trailing the South Koreans 10-12. However, the situation worsened when Ee Wei fell while attempting to return the shuttle, resulting in a back injury that significantly impacted their performance.

During the first set, Ee Wei had to use a back support brace for the remainder of the set. Despite narrowing the gap to 19-20 after trailing 10-16, the pair lost the first set. In the second set, the South Koreans quickly established dominance with an 11-1 lead. Although Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei fought back to 11-17, they ultimately fell short.
With this victory, Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun have secured a spot in an all-Korean semi-final against Seo Seung Jae and Chae Yu Jung, who earlier defeated Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 21-15, 21-10 in 38 minutes.
Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei advanced to the quarter-finals as Group A champions, having achieved impressive wins against the second seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping of China, Terry Hee and Jessica Tan from Singapore, and Vinson Chiu and Jennie Gai from the United States.

In the post-match interview, Tang Jie reflected on their performance, noting that while they managed the pressure well on the court, they lacked game maturity in handling certain situations. "Everyone has their pressures, and it was the same for us. Unfortunately, we didn't make it today. I really appreciate this (Olympics experience)," he said, fighting back tears when asked about their future.
Meanwhile, Ee Wei mentioned that playing with back pain left her uncertain about the extent of her injury. "I think it was a good experience, but we&rsquo;ve never performed well in the quarter-finals. There's not much to say&hellip; It's hard for us to face this defeat," she said.

With the departure of Tang Jie and Ee Wei, the remaining Malaysian shuttlers in the Olympics are Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, and Lee Zii Jia. They will all compete in the quarter-finals today (1 August) at 2:30 PM, 7:00 PM, and 8:10 PM Malaysian time, respectively.
Although Tang Jie and Ee Wei have exited in the quarter-finals, we extend our heartfelt thanks for their hard work and dedication throughout the Olympics. It&rsquo;s time for them to rest and recover, and we look forward to seeing them return stronger for future tournaments and Olympic Games.

A well-meaning attempt to help his sister secure off-campus housing turned into a costly ordeal for a local man, after he was allegedly scammed out of RM1,400 by a fake property agent. The incident, which took place in Cheras, has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking concern over growing online rental fraud in Malaysia.

In a X (formally known as Twitter) thread that has since been widely shared, user Fazeem recounted how he was trying to assist his sister and her friends in finding a new home, as their university dormitory contracts were expiring in early July. After searching online, he came across what seemed like the perfect unit listed on Mudah.my &ndash; a popular local marketplace &ndash; and contacted the supposed owner on 16 June.
A viewing was arranged for 18 June at Parc 3, Cheras, where Fazeem met a man who presented himself confidently as the unit&rsquo;s rightful owner. &ldquo;He gave me his IC, showed me a past tenancy agreement, and really played the part,&rdquo; Fazeem explained, adding that the man was so convincing that he didn&rsquo;t feel the need to question anything at the time.
Booking Fee Paid, Agreement Signed

Trusting that everything was in order, Fazeem proceeded to transfer a RM1,400 booking fee to secure the unit. He received a tenancy agreement on 21 June, which he signed and returned two days later. According to their arrangement, he was due to receive the keys on 26 or 27 June.
However, things began to unravel when the man suddenly demanded an additional RM2,200, stating that the remaining RM1,400 could be paid in July. This raised red flags for Fazeem, who replied that he would only pay after receiving the keys. The man agreed &mdash; but that was the last Fazeem ever heard from him.
Sudden Disappearance

By 28 June, the scammer had completely disappeared. Phone calls went straight to voicemail, WhatsApp showed the number as &ldquo;not registered&rdquo;, and the individual had deleted his account. &ldquo;He vanished just like that,&rdquo; Fazeem wrote, frustrated. &ldquo;I only wanted to help my sister and her friends find a place before their lease ends on 5 July. These scammers are too slick nowadays &mdash; always verify everything before handing over money.&rdquo;
Fazeem has since lodged a police report and is now awaiting further investigation by the authorities.

After sharing his experience, Fazeem was contacted by other social media users who claimed they too had been duped by the same man. One reposted tweet by user @ChristyMacr showed alleged photos of the scammer and his car, with another commenter claiming they had been scammed by him back in 2019, and the case was still unresolved.
&ldquo;He&rsquo;s using someone else&rsquo;s IC. That&rsquo;s not even his real name,&rdquo; another user claimed, suggesting a pattern of identity fraud.

Airbnb Properties Used as Props
According to other reports, the scammer allegedly rents Airbnb units for short stays and uses them as bait during property viewings. According to the Brickfields District Police, the incident began around 11pm on 1 July when a black Honda City, driven by a 28-year-old man, was struck on its right-side mirror by a red Toyota Yaris near Jalan Desa. What began as a routine fender-bender turned heated as the drivers exited their vehicles and confronted one another.
The situation took a dangerous turn when the driver of the Toyota Yaris suddenly pulled out what appeared to be a black pistol and pointed it directly at the complainant. The weapon was allegedly used to threaten the victim during the argument, creating a highly distressing scene.
Fearing for his safety, the Honda driver lodged a police report at 12.55am the following morning. Police officers responded swiftly to the report and managed to apprehend two suspects, aged 19 and 27, later that day.
Weapon Found to Be Replica Purchased on TikTok
