If you&rsquo;re a fan of movies and TV shows, you&rsquo;re likely already subscribed to a streaming service or two. With so many options and price points out there, though, it can be tough to decide which one offers the best value.
For anyone considering a new subscription, Warner Bros. Discovery is set to launch Max&mdash;a rebranded version of HBO Max&mdash;in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, on 19th November 2024. Max will replace HBO Go, and its subscription plans and pricing for the Malaysian market have finally been revealed.
The streaming service offers a collection of blockbuster movies, TV series, lifestyle and documentary content from popular brands like HBO, Harry Potter, the DC Universe, Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Discovery, AFN, HGTV and more.
How Much Is The Subscription &amp; What&rsquo;s The Benefits Of The Plan?

Max will soon be available in Malaysia with two subscription options: Standard and Ultimate. You can choose to subscribe monthly or opt for an annual plan, which offers savings of up to 33%.
Here&rsquo;s a breakdown of the pricing:

<li>Ultimate: RM52.90 (Monthly) / RM424.90 (Yearly)</li>
</ul>
Max&rsquo;s Standard plan retains the same RM34.90 monthly price as HBO Go. However, with an annual plan costing RM279.90, users can save significantly over time. This plan includes 1080p resolution streaming on two devices and 30 offline downloads.
The Ultimate plan, priced at RM52.90 monthly or RM424.90 annually, allows streaming on four devices at 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos and up to 100 offline downloads. A budget-friendly Mobile plan, providing 720p streaming on one device, will also be available through certain providers, though details are still forthcoming.
In some markets like Indonesia, the Philippines, and select providers in Malaysia and Thailand, a cheaper Mobile plan is also available. This plan allows streaming on a single mobile device in HD 720p and includes 15 offline downloads. Pricing details for the Mobile plan are not yet available, but it may be offered as part of a bundle with local telcos.
Transition from HBO Go to Max
On 19th November 2024, the HBO Go app in Malaysia will be replaced by the Max app, and all current HBO Go subscriptions will convert to Max. Following the transition, existing users can log in to Max using their HBO Go email and password.
Users who haven&rsquo;t logged into HBO Go recently are encouraged to sign out and log back in to make the transition smoother. HBO Go subscribers will receive an email with more information about Max.
For subscribers using the HBO Go website or app store, there won&rsquo;t be immediate changes to the subscription price. However, if you&rsquo;re subscribed through a TV or telco provider, you may be notified of any price changes. Currently, HBO Go costs RM34.90 per month or RM89.90 for a three-month plan.
What&rsquo;s Available On Max?

If you&rsquo;re looking to subscribe to a new streaming platform, Max has some pretty good content available which includes Dune: The Prophecy, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Friends, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus. Newer series available on the platform include The Sex Lives of College Girls, The Penguin, and The Franchise.
Max also features films from major Hollywood studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, and NBCUniversal. This includes the entire Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings movie collections, as well as popular titles such as Oppenheimer, Fast X, The Fall Guy, Despicable Me 4, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Expend4bles, IF, Trolls Band Together, Mission: Impossible &ndash; Dead Reckoning, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Subscribers can stream on a variety of devices and create up to five profiles for personalized recommendations. For a family-friendly option, parents can set up kid-specific profiles with age-appropriate content and parental controls, including a Kid-Proof Exit to keep children from switching to other profiles.
Max also supports multiple languages for subtitles and dubbing, allowing viewers to tailor their experience. Additionally, users can download shows and movies for offline viewing when travelling or without internet access.

Musk Promises to Refocus on Tesla

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives welcomed the move, calling it &ldquo;a huge step forward&rdquo; and noting that the market &ldquo;needed to hear this.&rdquo; Another investor, Shawn Campbell of Camelthorn Investments, said the focus on Tesla could stabilise the company, but a stronger signal &mdash; such as Musk fully exiting DOGE &mdash; would be more impactful.

The backlash has included widespread protests, consumer boycotts, and even vandalism at Tesla dealerships and charging stations globally.

He reiterated his intention to continue advising Trump on trade matters, adding, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s up to him, of course, to make his decision.&rdquo;

&nbsp;Heavy rainfall in the early hours of Wednesday morning led to a landslide that caused part of a wall at an international school in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) to collapse. The incident occurred shortly before the start of the school day, prompting a swift emergency response and raising broader concerns about hillside safety in the Klang Valley.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call via the MERS999 emergency line at 7.18am. Within minutes, 15 firefighters from the TTDI and Sri Hartamas stations were dispatched to the scene, along with two fire engines &ndash; a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle.
Rapid Response Averts Potential Disaster

&ldquo;Upon assessment, it was confirmed that the collapse had impacted various parts of the school infrastructure,&rdquo; Azkhan stated. &ldquo;Classrooms, the staff room, student toilets, and even the library sustained visible damage. In addition, two vehicles parked within the premises were also affected by falling debris.&rdquo;
Firefighters managed to stabilise the situation and secure the area by 7.55am. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among students, teachers, or nearby residents. The timing of the landslide, occurring just before the full arrival of students, likely prevented what could have been a far more serious incident.
School Operations Disrupted
Following the incident, the school temporarily suspended in-person classes to allow for safety checks and structural assessments. Parents were notified shortly after the incident, and arrangements were made for some students to be picked up early. Affected areas within the school were cordoned off, and emergency protocols were activated.
School officials expressed relief that no one was injured and thanked the fire and rescue personnel for their swift action. "We are working closely with authorities to ensure the safety and structural integrity of our buildings before resuming normal operations," a school spokesperson said.
City Hall Steps In for Follow-Up Action

The TTDI landslide was not an isolated incident. The Fire and Rescue Department also confirmed that separate landslides occurred on the same morning in Cheras and Sri Petaling &ndash; two other neighbourhoods in Kuala Lumpur known for their residential density and proximity to hilly terrain.
While no casualties were reported in either case, emergency operations remain ongoing at both sites. Authorities are continuing to monitor soil conditions and structural stability, especially in areas where drainage systems may have been overwhelmed by persistent rain.
&ldquo;Operations are still underway, and updates will be provided in due course,&rdquo; the Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement. Residents in affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of soil movement or structural damage.
