Who Are Glass Animals?
Glass Animals is a British indie rock band known for their genre-blending sound that fuses elements of indie rock, electronic, and psychedelic pop. Formed in 2010 in Oxford, England, the band consists of lead vocalist and songwriter Dave Bayley, along with bandmates Drew MacFarlane, Edmund Irwin-Singer, and Joe Seaward. Glass Animals gained initial popularity with their debut album, ZABA (2014), which featured hits like “Gooey” and “Black Mambo,” characterized by lush, atmospheric production and hypnotic beats that became their signature sound.
The band’s second album, How to Be a Human Being (2016), showcased their evolution with more story-driven lyrics inspired by real-life experiences and people Bayley met while on tour. This album received critical acclaim for its creative storytelling and experimental production, cementing Glass Animals’ place in the indie music scene.
Their breakthrough moment came with their third album, Dreamland (2020), which featured the hit single “Heat Waves.” The song’s success on streaming platforms and social media, especially TikTok, propelled it to the top of global charts, turning Glass Animals into an international sensation. The deeply personal album explores themes of nostalgia, loss, and resilience, reflecting Bayley’s introspective writing style.
Glass Animals is celebrated not only for their innovative sound but also for their dynamic live performances, where they bring their textured, immersive music to life on stage. Known for pushing creative boundaries, the band continues to gain a devoted fanbase worldwide, making them one of the standout acts in contemporary indie rock.

Catching Up With Their Music
In July 2024, Glass Animals made their comeback with ‘I Love You So F***ing Much’, a fresh 10-track collection marking the UK band’s fourth studio album and eagerly anticipated follow-up to their 2020 album, ‘Dreamland’. The release kicked off with the visualizer track “Show Poney.”
Frontman David Bayley shared that when they released this album, the band felt somewhat lost and naturally retreated to the studio to work in isolation. They wanted to focus entirely on creating something meaningful, free from past influences, especially as they navigated the post-COVID landscape.
Each song on the album was inspired by specific individuals, though some are “more an amalgamation of people where similar things happened.” According to Bayley, the entire album is "very, very personal," and he admitted feeling a bit anxious about revealing so much vulnerability. While their previous album was also personal, it dealt with events from long ago, allowing for a certain “level of detachment.”
Reflecting on their international hit “Heat Waves,” the band expressed gratitude for the overwhelming positivity and kindness from fans during that album cycle. That encouragement, Bayley said, gave them the motivation to push further, which was always their vision for this record.
In the meantime, we can dive into their latest album and hope the tickets don’t fly off the shelves too quickly—they’re actually quite affordable!
