The company promises a straightforward, seamless trade-in process that makes transitioning from an ICE vehicle to an EV hassle-free.

Alongside the RM10,000 trade-in incentive, Tesla is offering additional benefits, including interest rates as low as 0% and substantial discounts on its current inventory. For instance, customers purchasing the Tesla Model Y Performance can enjoy savings of up to RM30,600, bringing the price down to RM242,000.
What Are The Incentives Currently Available From Tesla Malaysia?

Under the Green Incentives Program, customers purchasing the Tesla Model 3 or Model Y can benefit from highly competitive interest rates, ranging from 0% to 0.88% with a 10% down payment for the base RWD models. For the dual-motor long-range versions, rates range from 0.98% to 1.18%, also with a 10% down payment.
Those interested in the Tesla Model 3 Performance can secure a low interest rate between 1.18% and 1.35% with a 10% down payment. The starting price for the Tesla Model 3 is RM181,000, while the Tesla Model Y starts at RM191,000. A non-refundable RM1,000 order fee is required when placing an order. All Tesla EVs in Malaysia include white paint at no extra charge, with additional costs applied for other exterior and interior colour options.
Currently, Tesla owners enjoy free EV charging at Destination Chargers (AC charging stations), while DC fast charging at Tesla Superchargers is available at RM1.25 per kWh. &nbsp;
With the growing emphasis on going green, transitioning to an electric vehicle (EV) now seems like a more promising option, especially with the increasing availability of charging infrastructure. Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has raised concerns over the proposed 40-70% hike in medical insurance premiums for 2025. According to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the projected 15% rise in medical costs is significantly lower than the proposed premium hikes. In his Facebook post, Guan Eng questioned why insurers are advocating such a substantial increase when global medical cost increases stand at just 10%, and the rise in the Asia-Pacific region is 11.1%.
Guan Eng argued that this excessive increase could place a heavy financial burden on Malaysians, many of whom are already grappling with the rising cost of living. He emphasized that these premium hikes, if approved, would disproportionately affect ordinary citizens, while life insurance companies continue to enjoy robust profits.

BNM&rsquo;s Accountability in Protecting the Public

Guan Eng criticized BNM and the Health Ministry (KKM) for their failure to protect the interests of 31 million Malaysians, emphasizing that the focus should be on safeguarding public health rather than the profits of life insurance and takaful companies. He posed three critical questions of public accountability:

Guan Eng highlighted that BNM had acknowledged the increased medical costs of 15% for 2025, while global and regional averages were significantly lower. However, life insurance companies are proposing hikes far above these figures, creating a disconnect between medical cost inflation and premium increases.
Irresponsible Cost Management and Regulatory Failures

Guan Eng pointed to glaring examples of inflated medical expenses. For instance, a dengue patient using a guarantee letter (GL) incurs RM4,978, four times higher than the RM1,288 charged to those who pay upfront. Similarly, pneumonia patients using GL face RM6,859 in costs, compared to RM2,654 paid by those who opt to pay first. Guan Eng questioned why these pricing disparities continue to exist, despite BNM&rsquo;s role in regulating the sector.
He further highlighted BNM&rsquo;s regulatory shortcomings, arguing that insurers and private hospitals continue to take advantage of these GL arrangements, resulting in widespread abuse. This mismanagement of medical costs contributes to higher premiums, forcing the public to shoulder the financial burden.
Insurers&rsquo; Growing Profits vs Workers&rsquo; Stagnant Salaries
Guan Eng also pointed out the stark contrast between the rising premiums and stagnant wage growth. He noted that life insurance and family takaful funds reported profits of RM8.4 billion in the first half of 2024, more than double the RM3.2 billion reported in the same period of 2023. This surge in profits has not been accompanied by corresponding wage increases for the average Malaysian worker.
Guan Eng argued that there is no moral justification for insurers to demand premium hikes of 40-70% when workers&rsquo; incomes have remained relatively stagnant. He emphasized that without significant wage growth, Malaysians should not be expected to bear such steep premium increases, particularly when insurers are already enjoying substantial profits.

In his call to action, Guan Eng urged BNM to demonstrate greater social empathy, public responsibility, and ethical governance by rejecting these excessive premium hikes. He emphasized that any adjustments to medical insurance premiums should be gradual, sustainable, and reflective of actual medical cost increases, not imposed in large and disproportionate jumps.
Guan Eng also warned that these premium hikes could contribute to higher inflation, further exacerbating the financial burden on Malaysian households. He emphasized that BNM&rsquo;s responsibility goes beyond protecting the interests of insurers&mdash;it must prioritize the well-being of the public.
Ultimately, Guan Eng stressed that Malaysians deserve a healthcare system where premium adjustments are fair, justifiable, and not solely driven by the profit motives of insurers.
In other developments, EPF has established the benchmark for basic retirement savings, suggesting that Malaysians will require at least RM1.3 million to afford a comfortable retirement. However, this raises significant concerns about its feasibility for many Malaysians, particularly amid rising living costs and stagnant wages.

It&rsquo;s important to mention that during the post-match interview, Zii Jia changed into a shirt featuring the correctly positioned flag, indicating he may not have been fully aware of the upside-down flag during the match, as the intensity of the moment likely distracted him.

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has unveiled its updated Retirement Income Adequacy (RIA) framework, setting new savings benchmarks to ensure Malaysians can achieve financial security in their retirement years. The revised benchmarks outline three tiers of retirement savings: RM390,000 for essential needs, RM650,000 for a comfortable standard of living, and RM1.3 million for a luxury lifestyle.
These benchmarks are based on a 20-year withdrawal plan, reflecting Malaysia&rsquo;s average life expectancy. EPF Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn explained that the framework considers rising living costs and is supported by the Belanjawanku guide, a comprehensive resource estimating monthly expenses for a decent standard of living.
Monthly Withdrawal Benchmarks Over 20 Years:
Essential Tier (RM390,000):

These benchmarks will be reviewed every three years starting in 2029 to reflect inflation and updated cost-of-living data from the Belanjawanku guide.
Flexible Policies for Surplus Savings

In tandem with the new savings benchmarks, EPF has revised its withdrawal policies to provide members with greater flexibility in managing their retirement funds. For those with substantial savings exceeding RM1 million, withdrawals will align with the luxury tier benchmark of RM1.3 million. Starting in 2026, members with more than RM1.1 million in savings will be able to withdraw the surplus amount. The withdrawal threshold will increase by RM100,000 annually over three years, reaching RM1.3 million in 2028. This phased approach ensures members have the flexibility to manage surplus funds while adapting to the new benchmarks.
EPF has also raised the minimum retirement age benchmark from 55 to 60 years, reflecting the longer working lifespan and increased life expectancy of Malaysians. This adjustment aims to give members more time to build their savings while preparing for retirement.
The Belanjawanku Guide: A Foundation for Retirement Planning

The guide was created in collaboration with the Social Wellbeing Research Centre (SWRC) at Universiti Malaya and is regularly updated to reflect changes in living costs. It forms the basis for the RIA framework, ensuring that Malaysians have a clear understanding of their financial needs as they plan for retirement.
