However, this time around there has been nothing close to a &ldquo;gentleman&rsquo;s fight&rdquo; after a man who was reportedly intoxicated had suffered a horrific injury after an altercation with another man in Penang.

The shocking incident first gained attention on social media when footage of the aftermath was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user <a href="https://x.com/update11111/status/1857957538253398437">@update11111</a>. In the video, the 52-year-old intoxicated man is seen severely injured after his eye was violently gouged out during the altercation.
The clip shows him lying on the road in a pool of blood, with bystanders visibly stunned and horrified by what they witnessed. A man can also be heard in the background exclaiming, "Wah, mata keluar oh" (The eye has come out), clearly shocked by the brutality of the scene.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the incident occurred on Saturday (Nov 16) at 2 p.m. at a flat on Jalan Ara Kuda. The victim, a local man, was reportedly intoxicated and had allegedly provoked a 28-year-old foreigner, leading to the fight. During the altercation, the suspect gouged out the victim&rsquo;s left eye with his bare hands and also caused injury to his right eye. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Kepala Batas Hospital in Penang and is said to be in critical condition.
Health Ministry Personnel Finds The Victim&rsquo;s Eye

When a Health Ministry (MoH) personnel arrived at the scene to transport the victim to the hospital, they reportedly discovered the victim&rsquo;s eyeball not far from where the altercation occurred.
Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested at the scene, and police have confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
What Caused The Fight?

According to Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, the 52-year-old victim is undergoing treatment for his injuries, with concerns that the left eye damage may be irreversible.
The incident, which occurred on Jalan Ara Kuda, is believed to have been sparked by a misunderstanding between the victim and the 28-year-old suspect, a foreign man holding a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card. Preliminary investigations suggest the victim, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, and the suspect became involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
Both men lived in the same flat, though the suspect has no prior criminal history, while the victim has multiple past convictions. The foreign suspect has been remanded for four days while police complete their investigation.

The crime took place over several days between 8 and 11 December 2021 at their shared residence in Amber Tower, Lido Avenue Condominium, located in Penampang, Sabah.
The prosecution revealed that Nur Afiyah, who had migrated from Indonesia to work as a maid, was subjected to persistent mistreatment and inhumane working conditions. She was not only deprived of wages and basic rights, but also physically tortured over an extended period. Photos and videos presented in court&mdash;recovered from the couple&rsquo;s own mobile phones&mdash;graphically captured the abuse she endured in the days leading up to her death.
Brutality Captured on Camera

The videos and images showed visible signs of physical injury, with the court hearing that the couple had even documented the abuse themselves, seemingly without remorse. The disturbing nature of the footage strengthened the prosecution&rsquo;s argument that the pair had every intention of inflicting harm and had acted with a shared purpose.
&ldquo;This was a young woman who left her home to earn a living honestly in the midst of a global pandemic,&rdquo; Dacia told the court. &ldquo;She died not in an accident, not in an act of sudden violence, but as a result of sustained, systematic cruelty at the hands of those who were supposed to protect and shelter her.&rdquo;
Court Delivers Verdict and Sentencing

The two were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which pertains to murder committed by more than one person. This section allows for the death penalty, or imprisonment for not less than 30 years and up to 40 years, as well as not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane for those not sentenced to death.
While the Attorney-General&rsquo;s Chambers initially pushed for the mandatory death sentence, Judge Lim instead imposed 34 years of imprisonment for both individuals, citing the severity of the crime and the strength of the evidence. Ambree was also ordered to receive 12 strokes of the rotan, while Etiqah was exempted from caning due to her gender, in line with Section 289 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Both convicts, who had previously been out on bail, were ordered to begin serving their sentences immediately from the date of conviction.
Defence Fails to Raise Doubt

On 20 June 2025, High Court Judge K Muniandy delivered the long-awaited decision on Najib's final SRC-related criminal case, which had stalled since charges were first brought in February 2019. A DNAA means Najib is released from the charges, but not acquitted&mdash;should fresh evidence emerge, the prosecution may reopen the case.

Acknowledging Penang&rsquo;s existing traffic challenges, Loke assured that proper traffic management plans will be implemented to minimise disruptions during construction. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve requested that, once piling and construction begin, there must be a proper traffic diversion plan in place,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;As with any construction project, there will be some impact, but our aim is to keep it manageable.&rdquo;

The full completion of the Mutiara Line is slated for 2030.
