Proton has officially entered the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its highly anticipated Proton eMAS 7, the brand&rsquo;s first battery-powered SUV. The debut of the eMAS 7 is a significant milestone for Proton and Malaysia, marking the nation&rsquo;s entry into the EV era. The SUV was first introduced in August and showcased across the country during the 4,020km eMAS 7 Tour, which spanned all 15 states. The grand launch, held at MITEC, was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, underscoring the importance of this moment in Malaysia&rsquo;s automotive history.
Available in two variants, the eMAS 7 Prime and eMAS 7 Premium, this cutting-edge SUV promises impressive performance, a wealth of advanced features, and a touch of luxury&mdash;all while maintaining affordability for Malaysian consumers.
Pricing and Colours

The Proton eMAS 7 is available in two variants with competitive pricing:

<li>eMAS 7 Prime: RM109,800</li>
</ul>
Early adopters among the first 3,000 buyers can enjoy a RM4,000 launch rebate, reducing prices to RM119,800 for the Premium and RM105,800 for the Prime.
Five distinct exterior colourways are offered: Platinum Silver, Turquoise Green, Slate Grey, Quartz Rose, and Lithium White. Inside, all units come with a refined Indigo Blue cabin.
Powerful Performance with Cutting-Edge Battery Technology

Under the hood, both variants are equipped with a 218 PS (160 kW) electric motor that produces an impressive 320Nm of torque. This allows the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 175 km/h.
The Prime variant is powered by a 49.52kWh battery, which delivers a WLTP-rated range of 345km, while the Premium boasts a larger 60.22kWh battery, extending the range to an impressive 410km. Both models support AC charging at up to 11kW, with full charging times of 4.9 hours for the Prime and 6.1 hours for the Premium. For quicker top-ups, DC fast charging allows the Prime to charge at 80kW and the Premium at 100kW, enabling a 30-80% charge in just 20 minutes.
Additionally, both models come equipped with advanced charging features such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) capabilities, further enhancing their practicality for everyday use.
Interior Design and Advanced Technology

Step inside the eMAS 7, and you&rsquo;ll find a modern, minimalist cabin that combines luxury with cutting-edge technology. The 10.2-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen dominate the dashboard, providing intuitive access to all essential controls and entertainment features. The system runs on Meizu&rsquo;s Flyme OS, which will soon support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through an over-the-air update scheduled for release within six months.
For those who opt for the Premium variant, the cabin experience is elevated with features such as ventilated front seats, a 13.8-inch head-up display (HUD), and a 16-speaker Wanos audio system powered by Flyme Sound. Other Premium-exclusive additions include a panoramic sunroof, 256-colour ambient lighting, and memory functions for the driver&rsquo;s seat.
Proton also focused on practicality, offering a spacious cabin with a 2,750 mm wheelbase that rivals D-segment SUVs. With 33 storage compartments, a 461-litre boot, and up to 1,877 litres of cargo space when the rear seats are folded, the eMAS 7 ensures ample room for passengers and luggage alike.
Safety at Its Core

Proton has prioritized safety in the eMAS 7, equipping both variants with a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite as standard. This Level 2 autonomous driving system includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), and Traffic Sign Identification (TSI). The SUV also features six airbags, Active High Beam Control, and a 360-degree camera, all contributing to its 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.
Exclusive Welcome Package and Warranty
Proton is offering an attractive eMAS 7 Power Pack as part of its launch promotion. Valued at RM8,000, the package includes a 7kW home charger, a V2L adaptor, five years of unlimited in-car internet, and a financing package with interest rates as low as 1.98% (available until January 15, 2025). Customers trading in their existing Proton vehicles via Carsome are also eligible for an additional rebate of RM1,200.
Warranty coverage includes a 6-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty for the battery, motor, and controller.
Prime vs Premium: What&rsquo;s the Difference?

While both variants share the same motor and core features, the Premium variant offers several notable upgrades. It comes with 19-inch wheels paired with Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance SUV tyres, compared to the Prime&rsquo;s 18-inch wheels with Giti GitiControl P10 tyres. The Premium also features a powered passenger seat, active grille shutters, and additional driver aids like front parking sensors.
In terms of luxury, the Premium stands out with a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and an immersive Wanos 16-speaker sound system. These enhancements make the Premium an excellent choice for those seeking a more upscale EV experience.
