At just 20 years old, Tan Hao Enn has left a profound legacy by becoming the youngest participant in Universiti Malaya&rsquo;s Silent Mentor Programme. Diagnosed at 17 with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours (DSRCT), a rare and aggressive form of cancer, Hao Enn faced a battle that tested his strength, resilience, and character.
DSRCT is a devastating diagnosis, with a survival rate of only 15% over five years and no definitive cure. During his three-year fight, Hao Enn underwent multiple treatments, including surgery to remove a malignant tumour in his abdomen, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Despite these efforts, the cancer persisted, spreading aggressively and causing frequent relapses.
His father, Tan Jun Bin, remembered him as a cheerful and optimistic young man with a kind heart. Hao Enn&rsquo;s decade of martial arts training had instilled in him a sense of discipline and resilience that helped him endure the gruelling treatments. However, as his health declined and he was unable to undergo a stem cell transplant, the physical and emotional toll became overwhelming. He struggled with depression, even contemplating ending his life.

In the face of such hardship, Hao Enn made an extraordinary decision. Turning his pain into purpose, he chose to donate his body for medical research through Universiti Malaya&rsquo;s Silent Mentor Programme. His father, grandfather, and grandmother have all pledged to become silent mentors, a testament to the profound impact of his choice.
The Silent Mentor Programme: Merging Science with Compassion
The Silent Mentor Programme, launched in 2012 in partnership with Taiwan&rsquo;s Tzu-Chi University, is a unique initiative that bridges technical training and humanistic values in medical education. Participants, known as "silent mentors," donate their bodies to help medical students and doctors enhance their skills. What sets this programme apart is its focus on treating these mentors with dignity and respect, as though they are living patients.

To honour their legacy, Universiti Malaya has dedicated the Silent Mentor Corridor in its Faculty of Medicine, where the names of the first 100 mentors are displayed.
The programme&rsquo;s mission includes improving medical education standards, promoting global awareness of its approach, and encouraging public participation in advancing healthcare.

Later this year, his body will be used in a five-day medical workshop designed to provide students with hands-on training in surgical skills. Once the workshop is complete, his ashes will be returned to his family for a funeral.

Legendary Taiwanese boy band ENERGY is set to deliver an unforgettable performance as part of their highly anticipated "Imminent (一触即发)" world tour! This April, the five-member group will make their way to Malaysia for a night of iconic hits and thrilling stage energy that fans won't want to miss.
Having announced their reunion after a 15-year hiatus, ENERGY has already wowed audiences with recent performances in Singapore. Now, the group will take centre stage at Kuala Lumpur's Axiata Arena on 5th April 2025 (Saturday).
Who Is ENERGY?

Energy is a Taiwanese boy band that made its debut on July 12, 2002. The group consist of five members: leader Milk (Yeh Nai Wen), lead vocalist Edy (Hsiao Ching Hung), rapper and main dancer Toro (Kuo Wei Yun), vocalist and dancer KunDa (Hsieh Kun Da), and lead singer Shuwei (Chang Shu Wei). Energy quickly gained attention for their unique Rapcore sound, a blend of rap and rock elements that was relatively uncommon in the Mandopop scene at the time. Their energetic stage presence and intricate choreography drew comparisons to Korean boy bands, helping them stand out in the competitive music industry.
The group&rsquo;s discography features several iconic tracks that resonated with fans across Asia. Songs like "Let Go" (放手) and "Love Me for Another Day" (多爱我一天) became fan favourites, with the former showcasing their vibrant choreography and the latter highlighting their vocal harmonies. Another notable hit, "One Day" (某年某月某一天), became a popular ballad that demonstrated the group&rsquo;s versatility beyond high-energy performances. Albums such as Energy! Come On! and Invincible further solidified their place in the Mandopop industry, earning them a loyal fan base.

Despite their success, the group faced significant challenges with lineup changes. Toro departed in 2003 to pursue other opportunities, and Milk left the group in 2005. While the departures marked a shift for Energy, the remaining members continued to produce music and perform, demonstrating their resilience and dedication to their fans. However, after years of activity, the group announced a hiatus in 2009, leaving fans uncertain about their future.
In January 2024, Energy surprised fans by reuniting with all five original members under B'in Music. This marked their highly anticipated return to the music scene after a 15-year hiatus. The reunion not only rekindled excitement among long-time fans but also introduced a new generation to their music. With plans for new releases and live performances, Energy's comeback represents a celebration of their legacy and a new chapter in their journey as one of Taiwan&rsquo;s most iconic boy bands.
