The highly anticipated Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line, also known as the Shah Alam Line, is scheduled to commence operations on 30 September 2025. Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that the project is currently 98.63% complete and is on track to be fully handed over to Prasarana Malaysia Bhd by 31 July 2025.
Spanning 37.8km, the LRT3 will significantly enhance connectivity between Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya and Johan Setia in Klang, serving as a crucial transport link for commuters in the Klang Valley. The project, which was initially expected to be operational in March 2025, has been delayed to ensure safety and operational readiness.
Phased Testing and Trial Runs

To guarantee a safe and efficient launch, the LRT3 system will undergo rigorous testing in two phases before opening to the public.
Phase One: Trial Run and Fault-Free Run (April&ndash;June 2025)
The first phase will be conducted by the main contractor, Setia Utama LRT3 Sdn Bhd, over a 75-day period from mid-April to late June 2025. This stage includes the trial run (TR) and fault-free run (FFR), during which the system's reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance will be evaluated under the supervision of the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
Phase Two: Trial Operation (July&ndash;August 2025)
Following the successful completion of the TR and FFR, the second phase will be carried out by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, with technical assistance from the main contractor. This phase will last for 60 days, running from July to August 2025. The trial operation will only proceed after APAD grants approval, ensuring the system is fully operational and meets all safety requirements before public use.
Station List and Connectivity

LRT3 was originally designed to include 26 stations; however, in 2018, the number was revised to 20 due to cost-cutting measures. In 2023, the government announced the reinstatement of five previously shelved stations, bringing the total number back to 25. The stations along the line are as follows:

Project Costs and Financial Adjustments
The LRT3 project was initially launched in 2016 under the Barisan Nasional administration with a budget of RM9 billion. However, this amount did not include additional expenses such as project delivery partner fees (6%), consultant fees, operational costs, overheads, and interest during construction. As a result, the total cost escalated to RM31.7 billion.
In 2018, the Pakatan Harapan government revised the project, reducing the number of stations and cutting costs to RM16.63 billion. However, during the Budget 2024 announcement, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reinstated five previously cancelled stations at a cost of RM4.7 billion.
Looking Ahead
With the final phases of construction and testing in progress, commuters in Klang Valley can anticipate improved transportation options once the LRT3 is operational. The government remains committed to ensuring the project is completed efficiently and safely, ultimately benefiting millions of passengers in the region.
