What Began as a Routine Salon Visit Turned Into a High-Stakes Ransom Ordeal
Police have revealed disturbing new details in the abduction of a 16-year-old girl in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, a case that has gripped national attention due to its brazenness and the level of planning involved.
The teenager, whose name is being withheld for privacy reasons, was abducted in broad daylight on 10 April while accompanying her mother to a beauty salon in the township of Seremban 2. After briefly stepping out to visit a nearby convenience store, she was forcibly taken by a man who shoved her into a waiting vehicle and drove off.
Her mother, unaware of the unfolding incident, was still inside the salon making a payment. Upon discovering her daughter missing, she immediately informed the girl&rsquo;s grandfather, who lodged a police report.
What followed was a harrowing 24 hours as the family received a chilling ransom demand &mdash; RM2 million in exchange for the safe return of their daughter.
Kidnappers Used Luggage to Conceal the Victim

In a press conference held on 15 April, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed the shocking detail that the girl had been hidden inside a suitcase during the abduction. This was reportedly done to avoid detection while transferring her from the vehicle to a hideout.
She was subsequently held overnight at an undisclosed location as police launched a nationwide manhunt.
The kidnappers had taken extraordinary steps to cover their tracks. Police found that the ransom bag was scanned using a metal detector, likely to check for any tracking devices or hidden surveillance equipment. The operation, investigators believe, showed a calculated understanding of police procedures &mdash; suggesting the culprits may have been involved in similar crimes before.

Police Close In: Suspect Shot Dead in Klang

Inside his vehicle, police recovered a pistol and a machete. The car also matched the one used to release the girl in Sendayan. Authorities confirmed that the man had no prior criminal record, but believe he played a critical role in the abduction.
Six Others Arrested, Including Alleged Mastermind

All six suspects have been remanded for 14 days to assist investigations, which are being carried out under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the group may have been involved in other similar crimes, and are actively exploring links to previous kidnapping cases.
The suspects reportedly have personal or familial ties to each other, suggesting a close-knit criminal ring.
RM180,000 and Jewellery Recovered &mdash; But RM100,000 Already Spent
Following the arrests, authorities recovered approximately RM180,000 in cash and several pieces of the stolen jewellery. However, it is believed that roughly RM100,000 of the ransom had already been spent by the time the suspects were apprehended.

Questions had been raised about whether the victim came from a high-income family due to the size of the ransom demand. However, police clarified that the girl&rsquo;s parents run a car workshop and a cake shop, while her grandfather owns a modest furniture factory. It remains unclear whether the suspects had any prior knowledge of the family&rsquo;s financial situation or targeted them opportunistically.

Tan questioned the prolonged service disruption, arguing that if it were a routine technical glitch, it should not have taken more than three weeks to resolve. "This clearly points to a more severe issue than has been publicly acknowledged," he remarked.
