Significant Service Adjustments from August to November
Passengers using the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line should prepare for planned service interruptions taking place on weekends and selected public holidays from 9 August until 22 November 2025. These temporary disruptions are necessary for the phased installation and testing of a brand-new digital signalling system designed to future-proof the line for the next two decades.
The line, operated by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, is currently undergoing a RM150 million mid-life upgrade to replace its ageing Automatic Train Control (ATC) infrastructure. The overhaul will introduce the SelTrac&trade; Generation 8 system, a cutting-edge technology known for its real-time data analytics, improved cybersecurity, and stable train-to-system communication.
Why This Upgrade Is Critical

According to Prasarana&rsquo;s Group Chief Operating Officer (Strategy and Development), Dr Prodyut Dutt, the existing system has been in operation since the line&rsquo;s inception in 1998 and is based on software developed in the 1980s. Finding spare parts has become increasingly difficult, and the hardware is no longer supported by the manufacturer.
&ldquo;This upgrade is not just about keeping the trains running. It&rsquo;s about enhancing safety, improving regulatory control, and ensuring operational reliability for the next 20 years,&rdquo; said Dr Dutt during a recent press conference at Menara Prasarana in Ara Damansara.
The project will see both hardware and software fully replaced, with the system upgraded from SelTrac version 2 to version 8, along with comprehensive modernisation of control platforms and digital components.
Upgrade Timeline and Affected Stations

The upgrade is being rolled out in three carefully planned phases:
Phase 1: Depot Works (Completed)

<li>Stations on this stretch will open at 9am instead of the usual 6am on specified dates.</li>

 Phase 3: Lembah Subang to Ampang Park Section

<li>11, 12, 18, 19 October: Lembah Subang, Kelana Jaya, Taman Bahagia, Taman Paramount, Asia Jaya, Taman Jaya</li>

Stations that are not part of the live testing will continue operating on their normal schedule.
Mitigating Inconvenience: Shuttle Services and Support Staff

To ease the impact of these delayed openings, Prasarana is rolling out a range of alternative transport options and passenger support systems.
Free Shuttle Bus Services:

<li>Bus Route 2: All-stop service from Dang Wangi to Gombak, covering key stations such as KLCC, Damai, Jelatek, Wangsa Maju and Taman Melati.</li>
<li>Bus Route 3: A limited-stop express route serving high-traffic stations including KLCC, Setiawangsa, and Sri Rampai for faster journeys.</li>
</ul>
Intermediate Van Services:
A fleet of five vans will shuttle passengers between Kampung Baru and KLCC between 6am and 9am, helping commuters access central areas during the three-hour delay window. No prior booking is needed.
Shuttle Trains:
A limited train service will operate at 10- to 20-minute intervals between Pasar Seni and Kampung Baru, maintaining some connectivity in the city centre.
Additionally, station staff, auxiliary police, and Prasarana Troopers will be deployed at key locations to guide and assist passengers during the upgrade periods.
Estimated Passenger Impact

Prasarana estimates that during Phase 2, approximately 7,000 passengers may be affected daily. This number is expected to rise to around 20,000 commuters per day during Phase 3, which involves a larger number of high-traffic stations and interchange points.
Despite the temporary inconvenience, weekday services will remain completely unaffected, as the works have been specifically scheduled for weekends and holidays to minimise disruption. On weekdays, the Kelana Jaya Line serves nearly 300,000 passengers daily.
Approved Changes and Communication Channels
The revised weekend opening times have been formally approved by the National Transport Commission (SPAD) to allow engineers greater access and working time. This change was deemed necessary to avoid further delaying the critical upgrade.

The building featured unfinished brickwork, zinc roofing over corridor walkways and what appeared to be improvised water and electrical connections, prompting many online to question its legality and safety.
The footage quickly spread across social media, with many alleging that the building was occupied by members of the Rohingya community and had been constructed without official approval.
Authorities Point To Landowners As The Root Cause

Following the renewed attention, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) confirmed that the structure had indeed been built without approval from local authorities and issued notices under existing legal provisions.
Investigations found that no planning permission or construction applications had been submitted through the council&rsquo;s approval system despite the development occupying multiple land lots, including part of a government river reserve.
Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz explained that the issue had already been raised during Hulu Langat District Action Council meetings since last year. According to him, multiple enforcement operations had already taken place, but the main obstacle lies with landowners who allegedly permitted foreigners to occupy the land and construct buildings while also facilitating access to water and electricity.
He stressed that enforcement should not focus solely on the residents but also on those who enabled the settlement to exist in the first place. Based on information shared by authorities, around 400 Rohingya individuals are believed to have established a settlement in the area.
Previous Enforcement Operations Already Conducted

Authorities also revealed that the premises had previously been targeted during an integrated enforcement operation in February last year.

Police have since indicated that the site is currently believed to house both the property owner&rsquo;s family and local tenants, although investigations into the overall legality of the structure and land use remain ongoing.

Inside Scoop Teams Up With Oriental Kopi To Turn Classic White Coffee Into Ice Cream and Cake For Father’s Day

Malaysia&rsquo;s political landscape was dealt a significant surprise this week after PAS officially announced that it has ended its political cooperation with Bersatu, signalling a major shift within the opposition bloc ahead of future elections.
The decision was confirmed by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang following a special meeting of the party&rsquo;s Central Working Committee held at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Hadi, the decision was made after the party reviewed reports, studies and assessments regarding the current state of its relationship with Bersatu. PAS also endorsed a decision reached by its Syura Council on 2 June, which examined the matter from policy, legal and public-interest perspectives based on the principle of Muslim unity, or penyatuan ummah.
In a statement, Hadi said PAS had resolved to terminate its political cooperation with Bersatu with immediate effect while exploring new political arrangements and electoral cooperation ahead of upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election (GE16).
Growing Tensions Behind the Split

The announcement did not come entirely out of the blue, as tensions between PAS and Bersatu have been simmering for months.

One of the most notable flashpoints was the political crisis in Perlis, which saw the removal of PAS Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and the appointment of a Bersatu representative as his replacement.
PAS leaders openly criticised Bersatu&rsquo;s handling of the matter, viewing it as evidence of increasing friction between the coalition partners.
The party had also expressed dissatisfaction over what it claimed was interference in political appointments involving PAS-led states such as Kedah and Kelantan, as well as opposition from Bersatu towards admitting new Malay-Muslim parties into PN.
In May, Hadi publicly acknowledged that PAS was reassessing its relationship with Bersatu and even suggested that the party could contest the next general election without its long-time ally.
Those comments were later followed by a letter from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who defended his party&rsquo;s actions and sought to address the concerns raised by PAS.

Prior to the special meeting, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also hinted that relations between the parties had become strained, suggesting that damaged trust would not be easy to repair.
While acknowledging Muhyiddin&rsquo;s efforts to maintain good relations, Fadhli argued that political partnerships should be judged not only by statements and promises, but also by actions.
PAS Looking Towards a New Political Alignment

The announcement has sparked speculation about who PAS could potentially align itself with moving forward.
In recent weeks, rumours have intensified over the possibility of renewed cooperation between PAS and UMNO through a revival of the former Muafakat Nasional alliance. The speculation gained traction after Hadi confirmed that leaders from both parties had recently met.
However, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later clarified that the meeting did not involve discussions about reviving the defunct alliance.
Despite the denial, political observers are likely to continue monitoring any signs of future collaboration between the two parties as the next election cycle approaches.
What Happens to Perikatan Nasional?

When questioned by reporters after the special meeting, Ahmad Fadhli declined to elaborate on PAS&rsquo;s future within PN, saying only that the current situation remains unchanged.
&ldquo;As of tonight, that is the situation,&rdquo; he said when asked whether PAS was still part of the coalition.
Similarly, Perlis PN chairman Shahidan Kassim pointed out that Hadi&rsquo;s official statement made no mention of withdrawing from Perikatan Nasional.

The special meeting itself reportedly focused on the relationship between PAS and Bersatu and did not discuss the party&rsquo;s membership in PN.
As a result, PAS technically remains a component party of Perikatan Nasional despite formally ending its political cooperation with Bersatu.

PAS Ends Political Cooperation With Bersatu, But Remains in Perikatan Nasional For Now

What began as a challenging mountain expedition ended in a two-week survival ordeal for Malaysian hiker Jaslinda Saludin, who was rescued after going missing during the Trans Spencer Chapman trek at Gunung Batu Putih in Perak.
The 49-year-old was part of a group of 14 hikers and two mountain guides who began their ascent on 23 May at around 2am. The trek, which spans part of the rugged Titiwangsa mountain range, is known for its steep gradients, dense forest cover, and unpredictable terrain.
However, the expedition took a dramatic turn when Jaslinda and another climber reportedly experienced health issues during the ascent. While the other hiker stopped, she is believed to have continued onward alone and was last seen on 24 May.
That decision marked the beginning of an intense SAR operation that would span nearly two weeks across dense jungle, rivers, and mountainous terrain.
Missing in One of Malaysia&rsquo;s Toughest Jungle Terrains

Authorities were alerted soon after she failed to return with the group, triggering a large-scale search effort involving the Fire and Rescue Department, police, forestry mountain guides, NGOs, and Orang Asli villagers.
Perak Forestry Mountain Guide coordinator Muzafar Mohamad described the search environment as extremely demanding, even for experienced personnel.
&ldquo;The terrain is filled with valleys, waterfalls and difficult ground. Even for experienced mountain guides, reaching certain sections is not easy,&rdquo; he said.
Search teams repeatedly combed the same zones, including areas where Jaslinda would later be found. However, dense vegetation, shifting river paths, and limited visibility made the operation challenging.
Despite extensive efforts, it was ultimately members of the Orang Asli community who first spotted her near a river at Kampung Lubuk Gaharu, Pos Musoh, on 6 June.

In the aftermath of her rescue, Jaslinda described the ordeal in stark and emotional detail, saying she had gone without food for the entire duration of her disappearance.
&ldquo;I had no food. I didn&rsquo;t eat for two weeks. I only ate today,&rdquo; she said in a video circulating online shortly after being found.
Her survival, she explained, depended entirely on whatever she could find in the forest. This included river water, dew collected from leaves, and water sourced from pitcher plants.
&ldquo;I drank black water, brown water, water from pitcher plants&hellip; I felt like I was hanging between life and death,&rdquo; she said.
She also described moments of disorientation where she would walk in circles while trying to retrace her steps and reconnect with her group.
&ldquo;I felt like I was dying going up and down, up and down. The ground was too soft,&rdquo; she added.
At one point, she also recalled encountering a cave-like shelter where she briefly took refuge as exhaustion set in.
Survival on the Edge: Dehydration and Exhaustion

Officials later confirmed that Jaslinda endured extremely limited access to clean water, particularly during the first few days of her disappearance.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said she survived by relying on natural water sources such as rivers and dew, and occasionally consumed wild forest produce.
There were also periods of approximately three days where she had no proper access to water, significantly increasing the risk of dehydration in Malaysia&rsquo;s humid tropical conditions.
Rescuers noted that she had sustained multiple injuries during her ordeal, including insect bites, abrasions, and wounds to her head. She is also believed to have fallen several times, including drops of up to five metres while navigating uneven terrain and river crossings.
Despite this, her ability to continue moving through the jungle is being credited to both determination and survival instinct.
Found by Orang Asli Villagers

Her eventual discovery came not from organised search teams, but from Orang Asli villagers who were heading towards a river in the Lubuk Gaharu area.
One of the villagers, Nazri Bah Eng, said she appeared weak, disoriented, and close to collapse when they found her.
&ldquo;She was crying and extremely exhausted. We immediately brought her back to the village chief&rsquo;s house and gave her food and drinks,&rdquo; he said.
She was later transported to Tapah Hospital via Emergency Medical Rescue Services at around 9.20pm the same day.

The discovery of Jaslinda was widely described as a miracle by those involved in the operation, particularly given that she was found within areas already searched multiple times.
Friends and fellow hikers expressed relief, with one close acquaintance, Hishammuddin Ahmad, saying the news felt like a long-awaited prayer answered.
&ldquo;When we heard she had been found safe, it felt like our prayers had been answered. It is truly a miracle,&rdquo; he said.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also expressed gratitude to rescue teams, volunteers, and the Orang Asli community for their role in the successful operation.
Hospital Recovery and Medical Observations

Hospital director Dr Wan Immi Salim said she was able to speak, eat, and communicate normally, and showed no signs of brain or internal injuries despite multiple reported falls.
&ldquo;She is able to eat, speak and communicate normally,&rdquo; she said, adding that recovery has been progressing well and discharge is expected soon.
Jaslinda is currently being treated for external wounds, abrasions, and a leg injury requiring a partial cast. Doctors are also monitoring her carefully due to the risks associated with prolonged starvation and refeeding syndrome, a condition that can occur when food is reintroduced too quickly after extended fasting.
Emotional Recovery and Family Relief

Beyond her physical recovery, family members say Jaslinda is also regaining emotional strength.

Her husband, Haszman Othman, also expressed deep relief and confidence in her resilience throughout the ordeal.
