The latest controversy unfolded on 5 October 2025, when Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver George Russell secured victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. As Petronas is the title sponsor and long-time partner of the Mercedes team, its President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, was invited onto the podium to receive the Winning Constructor&rsquo;s Trophy.
During the celebrations, Tengku Taufik was sprayed with champagne alongside Russell and the team, and he joined in posing for photographs with bottles in hand. Footage of the incident quickly circulated online, igniting a heated response from the public. Critics argued that, as a Muslim and a corporate leader, he should have avoided taking part in festivities associated with alcohol.
Some pointed out that previous Petronas CEOs had deliberately stepped away from the podium before the champagne showers began, a gesture seen as respecting religious sensitivities.
Clarification: Was It Really Alcohol?

The beverage, a premium sparkling ros&eacute; water branded under Mo&euml;t, is distributed at all F1-operated Paddock Clubs and garages, and often extends to podium celebrations in venues where alcohol restrictions apply &ndash; such as Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai. This raises the possibility that the drink sprayed in Singapore may not have contained any alcohol at all, even if it looked indistinguishable from traditional champagne.
Nevertheless, the optics of the incident struck a nerve with certain sections of the Malaysian public, particularly among conservative groups.
The Apology

On 7 October, Tengku Taufik issued a formal apology, acknowledging the criticism and clarifying his position. He stressed that he had not consumed alcohol but admitted that his actions may have been &ldquo;misplaced&rdquo; in light of the sensitivities involved.
&ldquo;While I can categorically state I did not consume any alcohol, as a Muslim, I should have been more aware of the sensitivities associated with taking part in such celebrations. Accordingly, I want to apologise for any unintended offence caused and take full responsibility for my actions,&rdquo; he said in his statement.
He added that his participation had been a spontaneous expression of joy following a &ldquo;long-awaited victory&rdquo; and that he was honoured to represent Petronas on such a global stage.
Public Reaction and Political Undertones
Reactions to the apology have been mixed. While some Malaysians condemned Tengku Taufik&rsquo;s actions, arguing that he should have known better, others defended him, pointing out the non-alcoholic nature of the drink and describing the criticism as disproportionate.
The issue also gained political traction. Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) was among the most vocal in criticising the CEO, highlighting how the episode clashed with Malaysia&rsquo;s cultural and religious sensitivities. The controversy echoed an earlier row in October involving Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing, who faced backlash for alcohol being served at an official dinner.

This means that while two members have now left JYP Entertainment for their individual careers, TWICE itself remains a nine-member group. The remaining members &mdash; Nayeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Tzuyu &mdash; have yet to have their individual contract situations revealed.
The members are understood to be navigating their individual and group activities as they continue their careers following years under JYP Entertainment.
TWICE Continue As A Nine-Member Group

Shopee users in Malaysia now have another way to pay for their online purchases, with Touch &rsquo;n Go eWallet (TNG eWallet) now supported through DuitNow QR.
The addition fulfils a long-standing request from Malaysian shoppers who have wanted to use their TNG eWallet balance directly when checking out on Shopee. However, there is a catch &mdash; TNG eWallet is not available as a direct payment option. Instead, shoppers will need to select DuitNow QR at checkout and complete the payment through the TNG eWallet app.
How To Pay For Shopee Purchases With TNG eWallet

The process is relatively straightforward.
When checking out on Shopee, users can select DuitNow QR as their preferred payment method. Shopee will then generate a QR code for the transaction.
From there, shoppers have two options. They can either save or take a screenshot of the QR code and open it through the TNG eWallet app, or use the app's Universal Scan feature to scan the code directly.
Once scanned, TNG eWallet will display the total payment amount along with Shopee Marketplace as the merchant. Users can then review the details and confirm the transaction to complete their purchase.
While it is not quite the seamless integration some users may have expected, the DuitNow QR option effectively allows TNG eWallet users to pay for Shopee purchases without having to rely on a card or online banking.
Interestingly, Shopee's payment information still lists Touch &rsquo;n Go and Boost as unsupported e-wallet payment methods, meaning DuitNow QR currently serves as the workaround for TNG eWallet users.
TNG eWallet Users Can Also Earn Cashback

The new payment option comes with another potential perk for shoppers.
Eligible users can earn 1% cashback on Shopee purchases through TNG eWallet's Shop &amp; Earn programme, with cashback capped at RM6.67 per order.
To qualify, shoppers need to enter Shopee through the Shop &amp; Earn page in the TNG eWallet app before making their purchase. Simply paying with TNG eWallet through DuitNow QR does not necessarily guarantee cashback if the required Shop &amp; Earn process is not followed.
Cashback is typically tracked within two days and confirmed within 14 days.
However, there are several exclusions shoppers should be aware of.
Which Shopee Purchases Are Not Eligible For Cashback?

According to TNG Digital, cashback does not apply to certain types of purchases and transactions.

Additional charges such as fees, taxes, service charges, shipping and delivery costs are also excluded from the cashback calculation.
As such, shoppers should check the Shop &amp; Earn terms before making a purchase if they are specifically shopping to earn cashback.
What Other Payment Methods Does Shopee Malaysia Support?

The addition of DuitNow QR gives Shopee users another payment option alongside its existing methods.

For online banking, shoppers can choose from numerous participating banks, including Maybank, CIMB, RHB, Public Bank, Hong Leong Bank, HSBC, Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, OCBC and UOB, among others.
Eligible shoppers can also access instalment plans through selected credit cards, while Shopee's SPayLater service provides a buy-now-pay-later option for users who meet the relevant eligibility requirements.
A Step Towards More Flexible Digital Payments
Although TNG eWallet has not been added as a standalone payment option on Shopee, its integration through DuitNow QR gives Malaysian shoppers more flexibility at checkout.
It also highlights how DuitNow QR is increasingly becoming a bridge between different digital payment platforms, allowing users to make payments across participating merchants and services without being tied to a single e-wallet ecosystem.
For regular Shopee shoppers who already keep money in their TNG eWallet, the new option offers another convenient way to pay &mdash; and potentially earn a little cashback along the way.

The C Hillstand, also RM809.60, looks towards Turns 9 to 11 and part of the back straight. It offers a combination of slower, technical corners as well as a view of the cars accelerating towards higher speeds.
For those looking for grandstand seating, the F Grandstand costs RM1,291.40 and overlooks Turns 7 and 8. The section offers a close look at drivers braking hard before navigating the connected corners and getting back on the throttle.
At RM1,386, the K1 Grandstand faces the opening corners of the circuit. It could be one of the most exciting spots during the first lap, when the entire grid charges towards Turn 1 and drivers battle for position under heavy braking.
At the top end, the Main Grandstand costs RM2,083.40. It provides views of the start and finish line, pit lane activity, team garages and pit stops, as well as the post-race podium celebrations.

While prices are displayed in US dollars for international visitors, the ticketing information states that transactions will ultimately be processed in Bahraini dinars according to the prevailing exchange rate at the time of purchase.

A 24-year-old man at the centre of controversy surrounding the death of Rocky, a dog that died during a stray-dog capture operation in Klang, has broken his silence, denying that he intended to harm or kill the animal.
Muhammad Shah Hizam said he has been living under considerable pressure following intense online backlash, including death threats against himself and his family.
Speaking at a #JusticeForShah press conference in Bukit Jelutong, Shah said he was saddened by Rocky&rsquo;s death but maintained that he was at Taman Telok Gedong Indah on 29 July only to assist with an assigned task.
&ldquo;I do not support cruelty towards animals, let alone have any intention of hurting or killing one.&rdquo;
He also stressed that he had no involvement in Rocky&rsquo;s death and did not attend the operation with the intention of harming any animal.
Shah Says He Was Assisting An Official MBDK Operation

Around 50 residents were reportedly involved in the operation, with MBDK officers briefing participants on the procedures for capturing stray dogs.
Rafique also stressed that the neck loop used to restrain the dogs was not Shah&rsquo;s personal equipment, but was supplied by MBDK.
He said the operation successfully captured 12 other stray dogs without injury, with Rocky being the only dog confirmed to have died during the incident.
Lawyer Says Situation Became Chaotic

A struggle reportedly followed while the loop remained around Rocky&rsquo;s neck, creating a tense and chaotic situation.
Rafique maintained that the circumstances surrounding Rocky&rsquo;s death should be properly established rather than determined through online speculation.
The lawyer also disputed a viral X-ray image that was allegedly said to show Rocky had suffered a fractured spine after being beaten. He claimed his team had been informed that the image was fake and said they did not know its actual source.

Rafique said the legal team would not rule out civil action, including defamation suits against individuals or portals that they believe had provoked the public or damaged Shah&rsquo;s reputation.

Former Subang MP Wong Chen has officially left PKR after 17 years with the party, describing the decision as difficult but necessary as he moves into a new political chapter with Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).
Wong, who served as the Subang MP for three terms, resigned from his parliamentary seat before leaving PKR in accordance with Malaysia&rsquo;s anti-party-hopping law. He subsequently applied to join Bersama, with his membership approved shortly before the announcement.
Speaking at a press conference at Bersama&rsquo;s headquarters in Puchong, Wong said leaving a party he had served for nearly two decades was a &ldquo;very difficult&rdquo; and &ldquo;heartbreaking&rdquo; decision.
Wong Says Decision Was Necessary

Bersama leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said Wong's parliamentary experience would be particularly useful as the party develops a series of detailed policy proposals.
The former PKR deputy president said he and Wong had entered Parliament in 2013 and previously worked together in Pakatan Harapan on policy documents, including alternative budgets and election manifestos.
Under his new role, Wong will oversee the preparation of Bersama's policy papers, which will be published under the &ldquo;Kertas Kancil&rdquo; series.
The papers will expand on Bersama's 12 key agendas, moving beyond broad goals to outline specific policies, laws, programmes, implementation measures and estimated costs.
The party plans to release the first paper around Merdeka Day, followed by further papers every two to three weeks. Bersama also intends to hold public consultations and forums to allow Malaysians to discuss and respond to the proposals.
Issues expected to be covered include the cost of living, wages, employment, housing and integrity.
Bersama Expands Its Leadership

Wong's entry comes as Bersama expands its organisational structure and prepares for its next phase of growth.
The party has introduced seven new spokespersons from different professional backgrounds, including economist Sum Dek Joe, former media personality Ibrahim Sani, accountant Wan Zulaika Abdul Kahar, engineer Jhen Pei Seah, former Subang Jaya city councillor Anbarasan Murugesu, media personality Tang Hong Yau and lawyer Rabiatul Adawiyah Sulaiman.
Bersama also plans to develop spokespersons, shadow candidates and party movers as it builds its grassroots and parliamentary presence.
Spokespersons will represent the party on specific areas of expertise, while shadow candidates will be identified and prepared for parliamentary constituencies the party intends to contest. Movers, meanwhile, will help coordinate party activities and expansion at the grassroots level.
Will Wong Return To Subang?
Despite vacating his parliamentary seat, Wong has indicated that he intends to remain active in Subang.
He said he would continue working with the local community and planned to maintain an office in the constituency, although the existing signage would need to be removed following his resignation.
Whether he contests Subang again under Bersama will ultimately be decided by the party.
Wong acknowledged that not everyone was happy with his decision, saying he still needed to meet residents and explain why he chose to resign before the end of the parliamentary term.
However, he said reactions on his social media accounts had largely been positive, with around 80 to 90% of responses supporting his decision.
For now, Wong's departure marks the end of a 17-year relationship with PKR and the beginning of a new role within Bersama &mdash; one centred less on holding elected office and more on shaping the party's policies and reform agenda ahead of Malaysia's next general election.
