Yet, few would expect such incidents to occur right here in Malaysia &mdash; in one of Kuala Lumpur&rsquo;s busiest and most iconic shopping districts, Bukit Bintang.
A recent viral video has shocked the public after capturing the moment a woman fell victim to a pickpocket in broad daylight. The incident has reignited conversations about public safety and awareness, even in familiar places many consider safe.
Viral Video Captures Pickpocket in Action
The incident was first brought to light by TikTok user @fifiemarzuki9, who had been recording the lively atmosphere of Bukit Bintang when she inadvertently captured a theft in progress. In her short 10-second clip, a man can be seen approaching a woman from behind as a crowd gathers at a pedestrian crossing near Lot 10. Within seconds, the man discreetly unzips her backpack and takes her wallet before vanishing into the crowd.

According to Fifie, she only realised what she had filmed after reviewing the footage later. &ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t even notice at the time because I was holding the phone over my shoulder and wasn&rsquo;t looking at the screen,&rdquo; she said.
It was later discovered that the victim had lost RM8,200, comprising RM3,200 in cash and two gold dinar coins. The money, according to Fifie, was hard-earned income from the woman&rsquo;s small kuih (traditional sweets) business.
&ldquo;She&rsquo;s traumatised &mdash; the money was everything she had earned from selling kuih,&rdquo; Fifie shared in her post. She added that a police report has since been lodged and urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Dang Wangi Police Station.
Police Confirm Investigation Underway

Following the widespread circulation of the video, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed they have received a report regarding the theft. Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, stated that the report was filed on 10 October and that investigations are ongoing.
&ldquo;Further investigations are underway,&rdquo; he said briefly, confirming that the video corresponds with the report filed by the victim.
The footage has since gained millions of views online, sparking public outrage and concern. Many expressed disbelief that such a bold act could occur in one of the country&rsquo;s most crowded and monitored tourist zones.
Public Shock and Fear After Viral Clip
Social media users flooded the comment section of Fifie&rsquo;s video, expressing both sympathy and alarm. Many admitted they were now hesitant to use backpacks in crowded public places.
&ldquo;After watching this, I&rsquo;m scared to use a backpack in busy areas,&rdquo; one user wrote. Another added, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s shocking that a pickpocket would dare do this when so many people are around.&rdquo;
Some Malaysians also pointed out that pickpocketing is not limited to foreign destinations. &ldquo;We always warn our friends to be careful in Europe, but clearly it can happen here too,&rdquo; said one comment. Others used the moment to remind the public to take precautions. A viral comment recounted advice from a travel guide:
&ldquo;If you wear your bag at the back, it&rsquo;s for others. At the side, it might still get taken. Only when it&rsquo;s in front, it&rsquo;s truly yours.&rdquo;

This means parents with children reaching the age of 12 around the transition period may want to postpone the application rather than proceed with the existing card.
JPN has not yet provided a specific date for when applications for the new-generation MyKad will fully open to all eligible applicants.
Existing MyKad Cards Remain Valid

Despite the introduction of the new card, Malaysians do not need to rush to replace their existing MyKad.

This includes Malaysians who are still using older legacy identity cards, such as the Plastic Identity Card, High Quality Identity Card and early-generation MyKad versions that do not feature the ghost image security element.

New-Generation MyKad Introduced With Enhanced Security

MyKad Printing Services Disrupted Until 7 September As Malaysia Introduces New-Generation Card

Malaysians who rely heavily on their vehicles have some good news as the government has restored the monthly BUDI95 subsidised RON95 quota to 300 litres, effective 1 September 2026.
The increase reverses the temporary reduction from 300 litres to 200 litres introduced in April. At the same time, eligible private diesel-powered pick-up and jeep owners can now receive up to 400 litres of subsidised diesel per month.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the changes during his National Day address on 30 August, saying the government was acting ahead of Budget 2027 because cost-of-living pressures could not wait until October. The Finance Ministry subsequently confirmed that the revised quotas would be implemented automatically for eligible existing recipients.
BUDI95 Quota Returns To 300 Litres

Under BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), eligible Malaysians can purchase subsidised RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre.
From 1 September, the basic monthly eligibility limit has increased from 200 litres to 300 litres, essentially restoring the quota that was in place when BUDI95 was first introduced in September 2025.
The government said around 16 million Malaysians benefit from subsidised RON95 under the programme. The adjustment is automatic for existing eligible BUDI95 recipients, meaning they do not need to submit a new application simply because the quota has increased.
The original reduction to 200 litres took effect on 1 April 2026 as the government responded to higher global crude oil prices and increased subsidy costs.
Why Was The Quota Reduced In The First Place?

The 200-litre limit was introduced as a temporary measure amid significant pressure on the government's fuel subsidy bill.
At the time, the government said the adjustment was necessary as international oil prices rose sharply, increasing the cost of maintaining subsidised fuel. However, the lower quota also prompted complaints from some motorists, particularly those who travel long distances for work, family commitments or business.
With the latest adjustment, the government says it has taken into account the needs of Malaysians who rely heavily on their vehicles, including those travelling long distances and small traders who depend on vehicles for their livelihoods.
The Finance Ministry also said the restoration was made possible by better fuel supply management, stronger enforcement, improved economic performance and the government's current financial capacity.
BUDI Diesel Quota Can Go Up To 400 Litres

There is also an increase for eligible diesel vehicle owners.
The basic BUDI Diesel monthly entitlement has been restored to 300 litres, with subsidised diesel remaining at RM2.10 per litre.
Eligible owners of private diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeeps can apply for an additional 100 litres, bringing their total monthly entitlement to up to 400 litres.
More than half a million eligible diesel vehicle owners can apply for the additional allocation.
Those who were already approved for the extra 100 litres do not need to apply again, as their entitlement will be automatically adjusted to 400 litres from 1 September. Those who have not applied can submit their application through the BUDI MADANI portal.
No Need To Reapply For The Basic Increase
For existing BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel recipients, the return to the higher basic quota is automatic, subject to their existing eligibility.
This means eligible BUDI95 users will receive the revised 300-litre monthly limit, while eligible BUDI Diesel recipients will receive the applicable revised allocation without having to restart the application process.
For pick-up and jeep owners seeking the additional 100 litres under BUDI Diesel, a separate application is still required unless they have already received approval previously.
Government Says Subsidies Must Still Be Protected From Misuse

Despite increasing the quotas, the government said it would continue strengthening measures to prevent subsidy leakage, smuggling and misuse.
BUDI95 was originally designed as a targeted fuel subsidy system, with eligibility tied to Malaysian citizenship and driving licence information.
When the programme was launched, the government said the 300-litre ceiling was already sufficient for the overwhelming majority of private motorists, based on national vehicle usage data.
The latest restoration therefore does not represent a return to an unrestricted blanket petrol subsidy.
What Malaysians Need To Know
For eligible motorists, the changes from 1 September 2026 are straightforward:
BUDI95: Up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 per month at RM1.99 per litre.
BUDI Diesel: Up to 300 litres per month at RM2.10 per litre for eligible recipients.
Private diesel pick-up and jeep owners: Up to 400 litres per month with the additional 100-litre allocation, subject to eligibility and application requirements.
Anwar has positioned the move as an immediate measure to help ease cost-of-living pressures before Budget 2027, which is due to be tabled in October.
For millions of Malaysians, the biggest takeaway is simple: the 200-litre BUDI95 limit is gone, and the monthly subsidised petrol quota is back to 300 litres from 1 September.

Malaysian MOAs, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) are coming back to Kuala Lumpur! The K-pop boy group has confirmed a new Malaysia stop as part of their upcoming &ldquo;Steal The Wind&rdquo; World Tour, just months after making their first-ever appearance in the country.
TXT will return to Kuala Lumpur on 13 March 2027, giving Malaysian fans another chance to see Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai perform live.
The announcement comes after the group wrapped up their previous world tour with a Kuala Lumpur concert in February 2026, where they promised Malaysian MOAs that they would return. It looks like they really meant it.
Who Are TOMORROW X TOGETHER?

The March 2027 concert will also make the occasion even more special as it falls on Beomgyu&rsquo;s birthday, giving fans another reason to celebrate with the group.

The track explores the bittersweet feeling of knowing that a farewell is unavoidable while still wishing that the relationship could continue. Musically, it combines an emotional vocal performance with an energetic Brazilian funk-inspired sound and prominent synths, creating a contrast between the song&rsquo;s upbeat production and its more melancholic theme.
The Japanese single features four tracks: &ldquo;Setsuna Hanabi&rdquo;, &ldquo;Silence&rdquo;, &ldquo;Nice to Meet Ya&rdquo; and &ldquo;Setsuna Hanabi (Natsuyoi Ver.)&rdquo;. &ldquo;Silence&rdquo; also serves as the theme song for the Japanese film Oki-Haru-kun no Namida wo Koroshite.

Bad news for Post Malone fans in Malaysia &mdash; the singer&rsquo;s upcoming Kuala Lumpur concert has been postponed until further notice, alongside the wider Asian and Australasian leg of his The BIG Stadium Tour.
The Kuala Lumpur show was originally scheduled to take place at TM Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil on 27 September 2026, but Live Nation Malaysia has now confirmed that the concert will not go ahead as planned.
A new date has yet to be announced.
Post Malone Was Set To Perform In Kuala Lumpur This September

Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Richard Post, was set to return to the region as part of his massive stadium tour.
The American singer, rapper and songwriter is known for global hits including &ldquo;Rockstar&rdquo;, &ldquo;Circles&rdquo; and &ldquo;Sunflower&rdquo;, as well as his genre-blending style combining hip hop, pop, rock and country influences.
His Kuala Lumpur concert was expected to be one of the year's biggest international music events, with fans looking forward to seeing the Grammy-nominated star perform live at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil.
However, those plans have now been put on hold.
Live Nation Confirms Post Malone Tour Postponement

Live Nation Malaysia announced that Post Malone Presents The BIG Stadium Tour in Kuala Lumpur has been postponed.
The promoter said fans who purchased tickets through the authorised ticketing platform, GoLive Asia, will be entitled to a refund.
&ldquo;We regret to announce that Post Malone Presents The BIG Stadium Tour in Kuala Lumpur, scheduled for 27 September 2026 at TM Stadium Nasional, has been postponed.&rdquo;
Live Nation added that there is currently no confirmed replacement date and encouraged fans to follow Post Malone&rsquo;s official channels for future updates.
The wider postponement also affects other Asian and Australasian stops on the tour.
Fans Will Receive Full Ticket Refunds

For Malaysian ticket holders, Live Nation said refunds will be issued through the original payment method used to purchase the tickets.
GoLive Asia is expected to contact ticket purchasers by email within five business days with information about the refund process. Fans have also been advised to check their spam or junk folders if they do not receive the email.
Live Nation apologised to fans for the disruption, acknowledging that many had been looking forward to attending the concert. The promoter also stressed that fans should refer to the official refund communication for further instructions rather than relying on unofficial information circulating online.
The Entire Asian And Australasian Tour Has Been Postponed

The Kuala Lumpur cancellation is not an isolated change.
Post Malone&rsquo;s wider Asian and Australasian tour dates have also been postponed, affecting shows across several countries. The Asian leg was originally scheduled to begin in Hong Kong on 16 September before travelling to destinations including Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan.
The final Asian stop was scheduled for K-Arena Yokohama in Japan on 6 October.
The Australasian leg, meanwhile, was due to include concerts in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland, as well as appearances at several Australian festivals in October. Those dates have also been pushed back.
At this stage, organisers have not announced whether the postponed shows will receive completely new dates or whether the routing of the tour will be changed.
Don Toliver Was Also Supposed To Appear

The postponement is particularly notable for fans who were also looking forward to Don Toliver.
The American rapper and singer had been announced as part of the tour line-up and was expected to support Post Malone during the Kuala Lumpur show.
However, shortly after Post Malone&rsquo;s tour promotional materials went up, Don Toliver announced his own tour plans, creating some confusion among fans over whether his upcoming dates would overlap with the postponed Post Malone shows.
With Post Malone&rsquo;s tour now on hold, it remains unclear whether Don Toliver will still be involved should the postponed dates eventually be rescheduled.
No New Kuala Lumpur Date Yet
For now, Malaysian fans will have to wait for further information from Live Nation and Post Malone&rsquo;s official channels.
The most immediate step is for ticket holders to watch out for their GoLive Asia refund email, with refunds to be processed through the original payment method.
While the postponement will undoubtedly come as a disappointment to fans who had already made plans around the concert, there is still a possibility that the Kuala Lumpur show could return as part of a rescheduled tour.
For now, though, Post Malone will not be performing at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil on 27 September 2026 as originally planned.
