When strollers are placed along these pathways, they can obstruct movement and increase the risk of accidents. He pointed out that if hot food or drinks were accidentally spilled onto a stroller or child, it could result in serious injuries.
By counting babies as part of the total pax count, the restaurant can remove an adult chair and create dedicated space for a stroller or baby chair without blocking walkways.
The policy, he said, allows the restaurant to maintain a safer environment for both customers and staff.
Why Carried Babies Are Also Counted

Many online users questioned why babies sitting on their parents&rsquo; laps are still counted as one pax.
Khairul said the restaurant previously allowed such flexibility, but it eventually created inconsistencies. Some parents would carry older children, while others requested different exceptions based on age.
He added that children can be unpredictable and may accidentally knock over hot dishes or glassware, creating safety risks not only for themselves but also for surrounding diners.
To avoid confusion and ensure fairness, Rembayung decided that all babies and children, regardless of age, would be counted as part of the reservation.
Previous Flexibility Led To Misunderstandings
Khairul also revealed that Rembayung had previously allowed arrangements where adults dined inside while a family member remained outside with a baby.
However, he said one such incident later resulted in criticism online after claims surfaced that the restaurant had allowed a baby to remain outside in the heat. Although the arrangement had reportedly been the family&rsquo;s own decision, the backlash highlighted how easily situations could be misunderstood.
Following several similar experiences, the restaurant updated its booking terms after Hari Raya Aidilfitri to include all babies and children in the pax count.

Addressing suggestions that the policy was introduced to maximise revenue, Khairul firmly denied the claim.
In fact, he said the rule actually reduces potential earnings because babies do not order meals.
&ldquo;If there are 30 to 50 babies at Rembayung every day, those could have been seats occupied by paying adult customers,&rdquo; he explained.
According to him, the restaurant potentially loses thousands of ringgit in sales by reserving space for babies and young children, but the policy remains in place because safety is the priority.
Consistency Is Important
Khairul also stressed that exceptions cannot be made on a case-by-case basis.
He explained that allowing one family to bypass the rule would likely result in similar requests from others, leading to accusations of unfair treatment.
With Rembayung often fully booked more than two weeks in advance and serving around 1,000 customers daily, consistent enforcement of SOPs is necessary to ensure smooth operations.
While acknowledging that some customers may disagree with the policy, Khairul apologised to anyone who felt inconvenienced and reiterated that the rule was introduced after careful consideration of real operational challenges.
Ultimately, he said the decision to count babies and children as one pax is not about profits, but about ensuring a safe, comfortable and fair dining experience for all customers.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that the long-awaited Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3), also known as the Shah Alam Line, will officially begin operations on 29 June 2026, marking a major milestone for public transportation in the western corridor of the Klang Valley.
The announcement brings relief to commuters after years of construction, revisions and delays that pushed the project beyond its original completion timeline.
Official Launch To Take Place On 28 June

According to Loke, the official launch ceremony for the new rail line will be held on Sunday, 28 June, and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The ceremony is expected to take place at the LRT3 main depot before the line opens to the public the following day.
&ldquo;The opening ceremony will be held on Sunday and operations will commence the next day,&rdquo; Loke said during a press conference after officiating the opening of the new Road Transport Department (JPJ) Bandar Tasik Selatan branch office.
The launch marks the completion of one of the Klang Valley&rsquo;s most significant rail infrastructure projects in recent years.
Connecting Bandar Utama To Johan Setia

The Shah Alam Line stretches approximately 37.8 kilometres from Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang.
Designed to improve public transport accessibility across the western side of the Klang Valley, the route passes through several densely populated and rapidly developing areas, including Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
In total, the line features 20 stations and is expected to benefit hundreds of thousands of daily commuters while serving an estimated two million residents living along the corridor.
Among the key stations on the route are Bandar Utama, Glenmarie, Stadium Shah Alam, UiTM Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang, Bandar Bukit Tinggi and Johan Setia.
The line is also expected to strengthen integration with existing public transportation networks, offering connections to other rail services including the Kelana Jaya Line, Kajang Line and KTM Komuter services.
Years Of Waiting Finally Come To An End

The LRT3 project has experienced a lengthy and challenging journey before reaching completion.

While authorities initially hoped to begin operations in 2025, the opening was eventually postponed after the line was unable to complete its mandatory Fault-Free Run (FFR) testing requirements.

With those hurdles now resolved, the line is finally ready to begin carrying passengers.
Modern Trains And Park &amp; Ride Facilities

The Shah Alam Line will operate using modern three-car trainsets manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou.

To encourage greater use of public transport, several stations along the route have also been equipped with Park &amp; Ride facilities.
Stations offering these facilities include:

According to JPJ, such accessories may create blind spots, reduce a driver&rsquo;s field of vision and make it more difficult to observe surrounding traffic, pedestrians and changing road conditions. The department also noted that window coverings could hinder enforcement officers from observing activities inside a vehicle, including seatbelt usage and mobile phone violations.
The reminder led to widespread discussion across social media, with many Malaysians questioning why inexpensive mesh sunshades could potentially attract penalties while heavily tinted rear windows remain permissible under current regulations.
For many drivers, removable sunshades have become a practical solution to combat Malaysia&rsquo;s tropical heat. Basic clip-on or magnetic shades can be purchased for a relatively low cost, whereas premium heat-reducing tint films often cost significantly more.
Anthony Loke Clarifies Government&rsquo;s Position
In response to the growing confusion, Loke clarified that while provisions relating to removable sunshades do exist within current regulations, authorities are not actively targeting motorists who use them responsibly.
He explained that the Ministry of Transport has not instructed JPJ to carry out enforcement operations against motorists using removable sunshades that do not interfere with visibility.
According to the minister, JPJ&rsquo;s director-general has likewise not issued any directive requiring officers to take action against motorists simply for having removable sunshades installed.
Instead, enforcement action would only be considered if the accessory obstructs the driver&rsquo;s vision and creates a potential safety hazard on the road.
Road Safety Remains The Priority

While clarifying that sunshades are not currently an enforcement priority, Loke stressed that visibility remains an important safety consideration.
Drivers are still expected to ensure that any sunshade, curtain or window covering does not block their ability to see surrounding traffic, pedestrians, road signs, side mirrors or other critical sightlines needed for safe driving.
The minister explained that JPJ&rsquo;s current focus remains on offences that pose a much greater risk to public safety, including illegal street racing, mat rempit activities, drunk driving and reckless driving.
These offences, he said, have a far greater impact on road safety and therefore receive greater enforcement attention than removable sunshades.
Can Motorists Continue Using Sunshades?
