A 15-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 16-year-old student Yap Shing Xuen, whose death last year shocked the nation.
The plea was recorded at the High Court in Shah Alam before Justice Adlin Abdul Majid. Proceedings were held in camera due to the accused being a minor, with only his family members allowed inside the courtroom.
The charge was read out again in Mandarin before the teenager confirmed that he understood it and claimed trial. His counsel, Kitson Foong, later told reporters that the defence is prepared to proceed to full trial.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly caused the death of Yap Shing Xuen in the girls&rsquo; toilet at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, between 9.20am and 9.35am on 14 October 2025.
The Form Three student was reportedly found with multiple stab wounds inside the school bathroom. The case drew widespread public attention due to the severity of the incident and the fact that both the victim and the accused were under 18.
The teenager, who was in a Form One transitional class at the time, was first charged at the Petaling Jaya Magistrates&rsquo; Court on 22 October 2025. No plea was recorded then, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Police had previously arrested the suspect and seized a knife believed to have been used in the incident.
Charge And Legal Framework

The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with up to 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not imposed.
However, under Section 97(1) of the Child Act 2001, the death penalty cannot be imposed on individuals who were under 18 at the time of the offence. Instead, if convicted, the court must order that the offender be detained at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan, or Governor, as provided under Section 97(2) of the same Act.
Earlier proceedings at the Magistrates&rsquo; Court were informed that a psychiatric evaluation had found the teenager fit to stand trial.
Trial Expected In July

Speaking outside court, defence counsel Kitson Foong said the next case management has been fixed for 6 March, during which trial dates are expected to be finalised.
The trial is anticipated to begin in July and may last approximately two weeks, as both parties aim to avoid prolonging proceedings.
The prosecution team comprises Deputy Public Prosecutors Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Zamariah Zarifah Aris.
The court ruled that only the defence and prosecution teams will be present during trial. However, two observing lawyers &mdash; one from the Malaysian Bar and another from the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) &mdash; have been granted permission to attend. Lawyers representing Yap Shing Xuen&rsquo;s family were not allowed to sit in as observers, as some family members may be called to testify.
Accused Remains In Juvenile Detention
Pending trial, the accused is being held at the Puncak Alam Correctional Centre, a juvenile detention facility.
The case continues to raise broader concerns about school safety and juvenile crime, with further developments expected following the next case management hearing in March.

Who Are The Sidemen?

Vikkstar123 (Vikram Barn) joined a few months later, followed by W2S, also known as Harry Lewis, in 2014. The Sidemen’s Fast-Food Brand SIDES Is Coming To Malaysia

Malaysia has been identified as a potential target of cyberattacks, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warning that the country must prepare for increasingly sophisticated digital and hybrid security threats.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat on 3 November, Anwar said intelligence received by the government indicated that Malaysia was among countries that could be targeted. He said the country&rsquo;s expanding digital infrastructure and its position on international issues, particularly the conflict in Gaza, had raised its exposure.
&ldquo;Malaysia is certainly among those considered a target,&rdquo; he told MPs, while stressing that details of the intelligence and the possible threats could not be disclosed publicly for security reasons.
Anwar urged lawmakers and the public not to assume that cyber incidents overseas were too distant to affect Malaysia.
National Security Council to Brief MPs

The session is intended to update lawmakers on the latest intelligence, including information received from Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Some intelligence could not be shared in an open sitting, and Anwar called on MPs from both sides to cooperate with the briefing.
The government was also stepping up coordination among its agencies. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar was scheduled to chair a meeting with relevant departments on 3 November, while Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour was to convene a separate session with domestic financial institutions to review their preparedness.
Cyberattacks Overseas Highlight the Risks

In the United States, the Federal Election Commission&rsquo;s electronic filing system was disrupted for 41 hours.
Anwar also referred to a breach involving Japanese government networks that reportedly exposed the personal records of more than 100,000 police personnel and affected police operations in several districts.
Anwar said these incidents showed how cyberattacks can disrupt government services and essential operations, and should not be dismissed as problems confined to other countries.
Five Areas in Malaysia&rsquo;s Cybersecurity Response

The government also intends to improve public and community preparedness, while strengthening the technological capabilities and defensive systems used by enforcement and security agencies.
Anwar said he had received assurances from the Chief of Defence Force and the Inspector-General of Police about the security apparatus&rsquo; readiness.
Regional Tensions Add to Security Concerns

He did not provide further operational details.
Several countries, including Canada, Japan and EU members, have also advised citizens to maintain emergency food supplies amid international uncertainty.

Malaysia&rsquo;s expanding data centre sector and wider digital infrastructure bring economic opportunities while increasing the need to protect networks and sensitive information.
Anwar did not identify any suspected attackers or specify particular Malaysian systems that may be at risk. However, his statement made clear that the government considers the threat serious enough to warrant a high-level security response and a confidential briefing for Parliament.

Other TuJu features remain available within the app, including highway camera snapshots, traffic information and details about rest and recreation (R&amp;R) facilities. However, users who want to combine these features with turn-by-turn directions may need to switch between TuJu and Google Maps.
TuJu&rsquo;s traffic information section has also been reported to display updates published by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) on Facebook, rather than offering a fully integrated live traffic service.
What Happened to TuJu&rsquo;s Navigation System?

The latest workaround follows criticism of TuJu&rsquo;s navigation performance and technical problems reported in October. Following the complaints, LLM temporarily disabled the navigation function while system improvements were carried out. TuJu&rsquo;s developer, Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd, apologised for the disruption and said its technical team was working on recovery and improvements to make the app&rsquo;s features more reliable.
The developer had indicated that restoration work was expected to be completed by 6 November 2026. The Google Maps redirection, introduced before that stated deadline, provides users with access to navigation in the meantime, rather than waiting for TuJu&rsquo;s own system to be fully restored.
Why Was TuJu Promoted as a Waze Alternative?

TuJu attracted national attention after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim encouraged Malaysians to use the locally developed app as an alternative to Waze. The push towards TuJu was followed by a rapid increase in users, which appears to have placed pressure on a service that was not prepared for the sudden demand.
However, LLM chairman Hasni Mohammad has clarified that TuJu was not designed to compete directly with Waze or provide navigation across every road in the country. Instead, it was developed with private-sector app developers as a highway companion, supporting LLM&rsquo;s Traffic Management Centre.
Its intended functions include highway updates, toll exit information, locations of rest stops, camera feeds and emergency assistance contacts. Hasni said the app was still under development and did not have the capacity to provide nationwide navigation.
TuJu Faces Questions Over Its Capabilities

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has also said those responsible for managing TuJu should be held accountable if inaccurate information was provided to the government.
For now, TuJu continues to offer highway-related information and camera features, while Google Maps handles navigation for users directed to it. Whether the app can eventually restore a reliable in-house navigation service remains to be seen.

He said the purpose was to steer the model away from recreating another party&rsquo;s specific game because using Claude to infringe intellectual property (IP) would breach the company&rsquo;s usage policy.
Osmani stressed that the change was not intended to prevent users from making original games or developing projects inspired by a genre. He said Anthropic would keep refining the restrictions and invited developers to report incorrect refusals.
Why AI Game Cloning Is Becoming a Concern

This creates a challenge for AI safeguards: restrictions designed to prevent misuse could also disrupt ordinary development work.
Where Is the Line Between Inspiration and Copyright Infringement?
