Seems like the Langkawi Tourism City Municipal Council (MPLBP) are starting to point fingers at an illegal settlement in Bukit Malut and neighbouring countries as they are causing the seas around the Resort Island to be polluted.
Recently, a video has surfaced on the internet and had gone viral showing the state of the polluted sea.

MPLBP President Radzuan Osman had explained that the garbage seen floating around in the sea around the Island was washed out by the high tides of the ocean during the monsoon season.

When the ocean tide is high, it can reach the villages located in Bukit Malut and the trash that has been disposed by the residents were dragged into the sea. Additionally, part of the pollution had come from neighbouring countries which is evident as you can see it from the labels and branding.
With the presence of all the pollution around the island, this is a bad light for the island as it is one of Malaysia&rsquo;s premier domestic &ldquo;tourism bubble&rdquo; destination.
The MPLBP will immediately start to clean up the garbage patch to ensure the cleanliness of the sea.
The footage had raised the publics concerns
As you can see from the video, the local kayaker had paddled though the patch of garbage. You can spot plastic bottles and several other debris of garbage all over the area. He had pointed out on the island&rsquo;s landmarks where the garbage was seen floating which was around these specific locations:

The village of Bukit Malut is located 20 kilometres from the Island capital, Kuah. The area has been subjected of national interest since the early 80&rsquo;s.
The village is home to a community of around 10,000 residents and it is at the site of the Bukit Malut Mangrove Forest Reserve which is an important ecological landmark.
For perspective, the living conditions there lack many basic infrastructures and was even compared to the slums in Brazil and Mexico by Berita Harian.

The residents there consist of mostly Malay-Myanmmar residents, undocumented refugees from Rohingya and those who are United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholders.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad had previously stressed that the people living in Bukit Malut were not &ldquo;new&rdquo; residents, but instead, the &ldquo;original&rdquo; residents of the island who consist of 80% fishermen. They are locals who had migrated to Thailand and Myanmar before returning to Langkawi.
In recent times, the Kedah State Government had announced plans to relocate Bukit Malut&rsquo;s residents to other parts of the island in the next five years. The island will also be <a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2021/05/03/bukit-malut-residents-to-be-resettled-in-five-years">replaced</a> with tourism projects which includes the Langkawi Racing Circuit, resorts and hotels in the area.

It is said that the track will be the &ldquo;N&uuml;rburgring of the East&rdquo; and will place Langkawi on Asia&rsquo;s motorsports map. That&rsquo;s a bold statement but do they even have enough space for the track around the island though cause that&rsquo;s a 20.83KM long track.

Hopefully the pollution issue here will be resolved fast. On the other hands, I do hope that the village will get relocated properly as there will be many things to consider when needing to do so.

A 25-year-old British software engineer has gone missing in Kuala Lumpur after a night out in Bangsar, prompting a desperate search by his family and police in both Malaysia and the UK.

Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle, from Merseyside, England, was last heard from on the evening of Tuesday, 27 May. At around 8pm, he sent a photograph of a pub quiz poster at Healy Mac&rsquo;s Irish Bar in Bangsar to his best friend, which now marks his final known communication.
Jordan, who has been backpacking solo through Southeast Asia and the Mediterranean for the past 18 months while working remotely for a US-based company, had arrived in Malaysia from Vietnam on 17 May. He was believed to be staying at the Robertson Residences in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
Family Raises Alarm After Uncharacteristic Silence
His mother, Leanne Burnett, became alarmed when she didn&rsquo;t hear from him the following day, something she describes as completely out of character. The two last spoke on Monday, 26 May, with no indication of anything amiss.
&ldquo;He always checks in regularly because he knows how worried we get,&rdquo; she told the Daily Mail. &ldquo;If he had lost his phone or laptop, he knows my number by heart. He&rsquo;d go to a hotel or an internet caf&eacute; to get in touch. The silence is just not like him.&rdquo;
Phone Signal Lost After Three Days

Concerned, Leanne used the Find My iPhone app early on 28 May and saw Jordan&rsquo;s phone last pinged at a block of residential flats near the pub on Jalan Telawi 3. However, the location had not updated for 11 hours. The phone then went completely silent by Friday, 30 May, suggesting it may have either run out of battery or been turned off.
&ldquo;Tracking him throughout the day didn&rsquo;t help &mdash; the location never changed. It was like he just disappeared,&rdquo; she added. &ldquo;We have no idea what has happened, but something is seriously wrong.&rdquo;
Efforts to Locate Jordan Intensify

Leanne has since filed a missing person report with Merseyside Police, the British Consulate, and Malaysian authorities. The British High Commission has confirmed it is supporting the family. On 3 June, Brickfields police confirmed receiving the missing person&rsquo;s report a day earlier. OCPD Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood urged anyone with information to come forward and contact either their nearest police station or Pantai Police Station chief ASP Khairul Nizam Ramle at +60 14-700 0672. He also advised the public to avoid speculation.
Desperate Plea from Family: &ldquo;We Just Want Him Home&rdquo;

She also provided her contact number (+44 7754 718679) and encouraged anyone with potential leads to reach out via WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;re preparing to fly to Malaysia to search for him ourselves. I just want to get over there, find him, and bring him home,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;This is every parent&rsquo;s worst nightmare.&rdquo;
Jordan is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall, of medium build, with shoulder-length mousy brown hair usually tied in a bun. At the time of his disappearance, he was in Bangsar, a popular nightlife district in Kuala Lumpur.
Call for Public Help
As the search intensifies, both British and Malaysian authorities, along with Jordan&rsquo;s loved ones, are urging the public to assist in any way possible. Whether through sightings, CCTV footage, or conversations overheard on the night of 27 May, even the smallest detail could be crucial in tracing his whereabouts.

Ending a 17-Year Drought

This victory ends Malaysia&rsquo;s long title drought in the men&rsquo;s doubles category at the Singapore Open, with the last success recorded in 2008 by the duo of Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari. It is also the first time Aaron-Wooi Yik have clinched the title in Singapore, adding to their growing list of achievements.
En route to the final, they beat several elite pairs, including Denmark&rsquo;s Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard, Japan&rsquo;s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi, compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, and India&rsquo;s world No. 1 team of Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.

A key factor in Aaron-Wooi Yik&rsquo;s resurgence has been the guidance of renowned Indonesian coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, affectionately nicknamed the &ldquo;Fire Dragon&rdquo;. Having joined the national team just three months ago, Herry&rsquo;s influence is already apparent. He has helped stabilise the pair&rsquo;s consistency, polish their attacking game, and boost their morale in both training and match settings.
&ldquo;Coach Herry has played a huge role. He gives us confidence and doesn&rsquo;t pressure us unnecessarily,&rdquo; Aaron shared. Wooi Yik added, &ldquo;After the first set, we knew we had to push harder. He&rsquo;s refined our playstyle, and this win is part of a much bigger mission.&rdquo;
Eyes on Jakarta: The Indonesia Open Awaits
Buoyed by their Singapore success, Aaron-Wooi Yik now set their sights on the prestigious Indonesia Open (3&ndash;8 June) in Jakarta, a Super 1000 event with a total prize pool of US$1.45 million. The champions in the doubles category will earn US$107,000, with the runners-up pocketing US$50,750.
However, the path to a fourth title this season will be anything but straightforward. Drawn in the top half, they are expected to face formidable opponents including Japan&rsquo;s Hoki-Kobayashi, India&rsquo;s Chirag-Satwiksairaj, and local favourites Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagus Maulana. They also face a tricky opening round clash against Denmark&rsquo;s Frederik Sogaard and Rasmus Kjaer &ndash; the same pair they narrowly beat in the Malaysia Masters.
Climbing the Rankings: A Shot at World No. 1

A strong showing in Jakarta could finally see Aaron and Wooi Yik reach the summit of the world rankings &ndash; a position they&rsquo;ve never held despite having been ranked as high as No. 2.
Still, Aaron remains grounded. &ldquo;Our priority is to win titles, not chase rankings. If we continue to perform, the ranking will follow naturally.&rdquo;
A Lucrative Run of Form
The pair&rsquo;s red-hot form has also been financially rewarding. Over their last four tournaments, Aaron-Wooi Yik have amassed RM708,905 in prize money, collecting titles in three of them and finishing runners-up once. With such momentum, they are not only Malaysia&rsquo;s best hope on the international badminton circuit but also firm favourites to make further history in 2025.
