The Ministry of Health (MOH) is exploring the introduction of a digital medical certificate (e-MC) system following a series of cases involving forged medical certificates and the misuse of healthcare professionals&rsquo; identities.
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the ministry&rsquo;s Digital Health Division has been instructed to expedite studies into a more secure and reliable platform for issuing medical certificates, with the aim of reducing fraud, forgery and identity theft linked to sick leave documents.
The proposal comes amid ongoing investigations into a syndicate accused of producing and selling fake medical certificates while impersonating legitimate doctors and private clinics.
Push Towards A More Secure Digital System

Speaking after the launch of the &lsquo;Cik Era Naik MRT&rsquo; programme at the Tun Razak Exchange MRT Station, Dzulkefly stressed that medical certificates can only be legally issued by the doctor or medical officer responsible for treating a patient.
He described the abuse of MCs as a serious ethical violation and said the ministry would take a firm stance against any misconduct involving fraudulent certificates.
According to him, the recent cases highlight the need for a more secure digital framework that would make medical certificates easier to verify while significantly reducing opportunities for abuse.
&ldquo;Perhaps this is also a clear signal for us to move towards a digital system or e-MC. This is the way forward in minimising abuse,&rdquo; he said.
The proposed system is expected to strengthen authentication processes and make it more difficult for forged documents to be circulated using the identities of legitimate healthcare practitioners.
Malaysian Medical Council Leading Investigations

The move follows revelations involving the so-called &ldquo;Holiday Master&rdquo; syndicate, which allegedly operated through an online platform that sold fake medical certificates while using the names of registered doctors and private clinics.
Authorities believe the syndicate may have been operating for years, with reports suggesting the fraudulent activities date back to 2016.
Dzulkefly said the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) will lead investigations into the matter while working closely with law enforcement agencies. The ministry is also examining whether any internal data security vulnerabilities may have enabled the theft and misuse of doctors&rsquo; professional registration numbers.
&ldquo;The Malaysian Medical Council will be the lead agency in this matter and will work closely with law enforcement authorities,&rdquo; he said.
He added that the ministry is determined to ensure that doctors&rsquo; identities are protected and not exploited by irresponsible parties for financial gain.
Multiple Arrests Linked To Fake MC Operations

The investigation has already led to several arrests in Pekan, where authorities uncovered an alleged network involved in the sale and purchase of forged medical certificates.
Earlier this month, police detained three individuals suspected of acting as middlemen in an organised operation that allegedly sold fake MCs for between RM50 and RM200 each.
Investigators discovered that some of the certificates carried the name of a medical officer who had been transferred to another location in 2023. An outdated official stamp was also reportedly used on the documents.
The probe later expanded, resulting in the remand of five individuals, including a nurse, to assist investigations into the illegal trade. Authorities subsequently arrested four more individuals believed to have purchased the forged certificates, bringing the total number of arrests linked to the case to nine.
The findings suggest the operation involved several layers, including intermediaries who sourced customers and individuals who facilitated access to the fraudulent documents.
Public Urged Not To Rely On AI For Self-Diagnosis

In a separate development, Dzulkefly also cautioned the public against relying on artificial intelligence (AI) for self-diagnosis, particularly when dealing with serious conditions such as cancer and heart disease.
While acknowledging the growing role of AI in healthcare, he stressed that patient safety and clinical accuracy must remain the priority.
He urged Malaysians experiencing health concerns to seek professional medical advice from qualified practitioners, whether through private clinics, government health facilities or public hospitals.
&ldquo;We cannot adopt a do-it-yourself approach based on AI. No matter how advanced AI technology may be, it should not be treated as the ultimate source for making medical decisions,&rdquo; he said.
As investigations into the fake MC syndicate continue, the ministry believes that transitioning towards a digital medical certificate system could play a key role in safeguarding the integrity of healthcare documentation while protecting both patients and medical professionals from fraud.

The reports quickly sparked confusion among motorists, many of whom rely on affordable sunshades to reduce heat inside their vehicles during Malaysia&rsquo;s hot weather.
Following widespread public concern and debate online, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has now stepped forward to clarify the situation, assuring motorists that they will not face enforcement action as long as their sunshades do not obstruct the driver&rsquo;s view while driving.
Why The Issue Became A Talking Point

The controversy began after the Road Transport Department (JPJ) reminded motorists that removable sunshades, curtains, blinds and similar accessories attached to vehicle windows while a vehicle is in motion could potentially constitute an offence under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991.
According to JPJ, such accessories may create blind spots, reduce a driver&rsquo;s field of vision and make it more difficult to observe surrounding traffic, pedestrians and changing road conditions. The department also noted that window coverings could hinder enforcement officers from observing activities inside a vehicle, including seatbelt usage and mobile phone violations.
The reminder led to widespread discussion across social media, with many Malaysians questioning why inexpensive mesh sunshades could potentially attract penalties while heavily tinted rear windows remain permissible under current regulations.
For many drivers, removable sunshades have become a practical solution to combat Malaysia&rsquo;s tropical heat. Basic clip-on or magnetic shades can be purchased for a relatively low cost, whereas premium heat-reducing tint films often cost significantly more.
Anthony Loke Clarifies Government&rsquo;s Position
In response to the growing confusion, Loke clarified that while provisions relating to removable sunshades do exist within current regulations, authorities are not actively targeting motorists who use them responsibly.
He explained that the Ministry of Transport has not instructed JPJ to carry out enforcement operations against motorists using removable sunshades that do not interfere with visibility.
According to the minister, JPJ&rsquo;s director-general has likewise not issued any directive requiring officers to take action against motorists simply for having removable sunshades installed.
Instead, enforcement action would only be considered if the accessory obstructs the driver&rsquo;s vision and creates a potential safety hazard on the road.
Road Safety Remains The Priority
&nbsp;
While clarifying that sunshades are not currently an enforcement priority, Loke stressed that visibility remains an important safety consideration.
Drivers are still expected to ensure that any sunshade, curtain or window covering does not block their ability to see surrounding traffic, pedestrians, road signs, side mirrors or other critical sightlines needed for safe driving.
The minister explained that JPJ&rsquo;s current focus remains on offences that pose a much greater risk to public safety, including illegal street racing, mat rempit activities, drunk driving and reckless driving.
These offences, he said, have a far greater impact on road safety and therefore receive greater enforcement attention than removable sunshades.
Can Motorists Continue Using Sunshades?

For most motorists, the answer is yes.
Based on the clarification provided by the Transport Ministry, drivers may continue using removable sunshades as long as they do not compromise visibility or create dangerous blind spots.
Although the regulations technically contain provisions relating to window coverings, authorities have made it clear that they are not launching special enforcement efforts against motorists who use sunshades responsibly.
However, motorists are encouraged to exercise common sense and ensure that any accessories fitted to their windows do not interfere with their ability to safely operate the vehicle.
Calls For Clearer Guidelines
Despite the clarification, some motorists have argued that uncertainty still exists because determining whether visibility is obstructed can sometimes be subjective.
Many have called for clearer written guidance from JPJ outlining what types of sunshades are acceptable and how officers assess whether visibility has been compromised.
For now, however, the message from the Transport Ministry is straightforward: removable sunshades are not a priority for enforcement, provided they do not obstruct the driver&rsquo;s view or endanger road users.

However, according to the Malaysian creative team behind the display, the hornbill and rafflesia were never intended to be mistaken for real wildlife in the first place.
Representatives from Richard&rsquo;s Prestige Lighting &amp; Design (RPLD), the local company responsible for the project, explained that these were artistic installations designed to celebrate Malaysian nature and culture.

&ldquo;Not fake, it&rsquo;s called an installation,&rdquo; the team wrote in a social media post while responding to the criticism.
A Malaysian-Made Showcase Of Creativity

The team later shared behind-the-scenes photos and videos showing the amount of work that went into creating the displays.
According to RPLD, every component was produced from scratch by Malaysian artisans and craftsmen. The process involved mould-making, casting, sculpting and the installation of fibre optic lighting systems to bring the pieces to life.
The rafflesia structures were designed to illuminate at night, creating a different atmosphere within the transit area, while the hornbill was carefully handcrafted to serve as a symbolic representation of Malaysia&rsquo;s biodiversity.
The creators stressed that the installations were neither imported nor copied from elsewhere.

&ldquo;From the mould, to the casting, to the fibre optic wiring, everything was done by ourselves,&rdquo; the team explained.
Months of work reportedly went into completing the project, with staff spending long hours at KLIA1 to ensure every detail was installed correctly.
The team also addressed questions regarding visible black cables within the display, clarifying that these were fibre optic wires used for lighting effects and were designed to be both UV-resistant and water-resistant.
Netizens Rally Behind The Local Creators
Following the clarification, many Malaysians came to the defence of the installation team.
Several social media users argued that describing the pieces as &ldquo;fake&rdquo; misunderstood the purpose of an art installation, which is not meant to replicate reality perfectly but rather to create an immersive experience.
Others praised the craftsmanship behind the project and expressed pride in seeing locally made artwork showcased at one of Malaysia&rsquo;s main international gateways.
Many also felt that terms such as &ldquo;replica&rdquo; or &ldquo;art installation&rdquo; would have been more appropriate descriptions than simply calling the pieces &ldquo;fake&rdquo;.
For the creators, the project represents more than decorative airport features&mdash;it is a showcase of Malaysian talent, creativity and craftsmanship for both locals and international visitors.

As criticism mounted online, Ivor issued a statement clarifying that the version of the video being circulated did not accurately reflect her original comments.

Ivor explained that her intention was to discuss the visitor experience and offer constructive observations, not to undermine local efforts or businesses. She also encouraged the public to watch the full, unedited video before drawing conclusions and stated that she remains committed to supporting Malaysian brands and initiatives. As a local entrepreneur herself, she said constructive feedback should be viewed as part of the process of improving industries and elevating local standards.

New MyKad-Based Subsidy Mechanism

According to the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the new system will operate similarly to the existing BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme, where eligible Malaysians can access subsidised fuel prices through MyKad verification.
Under the revised mechanism, Malaysians who qualify for the subsidy will be able to purchase diesel at RM2.10 per litre, while non-citizens and those who do not meet the eligibility requirements will have to pay the market rate.
The government said the reform is designed to create a uniform subsidy system nationwide while reducing leakages and the smuggling of subsidised diesel.
&ldquo;Diesel subsidies will be channelled directly to Malaysians through MyKad verification, while non-citizens and ineligible parties must purchase diesel at the unsubsidised price,&rdquo; the ministry said.
Standardising Diesel Prices Across Malaysia

The announcement also introduces a significant change to the current diesel pricing structure between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.
At present, diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia are floated weekly under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), while Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan continue to enjoy subsidised diesel priced at RM2.15 per litre.
Starting in July, the subsidised diesel price will be standardised nationwide at RM2.10 per litre for eligible Malaysians.
This means diesel vehicle owners in Sabah and Sarawak will see a reduction of five sen per litre from the current subsidised rate, while non-Malaysians in the region will no longer have access to subsidised diesel.
The government believes the nationwide implementation will ensure a fairer system where all eligible Malaysians enjoy the same price and purchasing mechanism regardless of where they live.
Tackling Leakages and Smuggling

The Ministry of Finance said the reform comes at a crucial time, particularly as global oil supplies continue to face pressure due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
According to the ministry, the large gap between subsidised and market-priced diesel has created opportunities for abuse, including leakages and cross-border smuggling activities.
Currently, unsubsidised diesel in Peninsular Malaysia is priced at RM4.37 per litre, more than double the newly announced subsidised rate.
By requiring MyKad verification at the point of purchase, the government hopes to close loopholes and ensure public funds are channelled directly to Malaysians who are entitled to receive assistance.
Significant Savings For Diesel Vehicle Owners

The new rate is expected to provide substantial savings for diesel vehicle owners, particularly in Peninsular Malaysia.
Based on current fuel prices, eligible motorists could save more than RM2.20 per litre compared to the prevailing market rate of RM4.37 per litre.
The move is also expected to benefit many individuals currently receiving diesel-related assistance through existing programmes such as BUDI Diesel, which provides monthly aid to eligible diesel vehicle owners, farmers and smallholders.
According to previous government data, BUDI Diesel has benefited around 340,000 eligible recipients, while the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) serves more than 398,000 logistics and public transport vehicles through a fleet card system.

Following the announcement, Anwar said the reduction reflects the government&rsquo;s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of economic reforms and national growth are returned to the rakyat.
He also reiterated that the subsidised RON95 petrol price of RM1.99 per litre will remain unchanged.
Further details on the implementation of the diesel subsidy programme, including eligibility requirements, purchasing procedures and any potential usage quotas, are expected to be announced by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
For now, Malaysians can expect a nationwide diesel subsidy system that promises lower fuel costs, greater transparency and a more targeted approach to government assistance beginning this July.

Perodua has announced a reduction of up to 10% on service maintenance parts and labour costs across its entire vehicle lineup, offering some relief to Malaysians facing rising living expenses.
The initiative takes effect from 19 June 2026 and applies to all Perodua models, including the company&rsquo;s newly launched electric vehicle, the QV-E. Customers can expect savings on a wide range of maintenance services, from routine inspections and parts replacements to labour charges at authorised service centres nationwide.
According to the national carmaker, the move is part of its ongoing efforts to make vehicle ownership more affordable while ensuring customers continue to benefit from professional servicing and genuine replacement parts.
Customers Expected To Save Around 10% Per Service Visit

He added that the company hopes the initiative will help reduce mobility-related expenses for Malaysians while providing greater value to existing customers.
Unlike typical promotional campaigns that focus only on selected components, Perodua&rsquo;s latest initiative covers both parts and workmanship costs, allowing owners to enjoy more meaningful savings during routine maintenance.
Applies To Every Perodua Model, Including The QV-E

Malaysia&rsquo;s highest-performing Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students will soon receive a major boost in their academic journey, with public universities set to waive undergraduate tuition fees for the country&rsquo;s top achievers.
The new initiative, announced by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, will begin with the 2025 STPM cohort and benefit the 18 students recognised as the nation&rsquo;s top performers.
The sponsorship programme, which comes in the form of full tuition fee coverage, reflects the commitment of public universities to support outstanding students and ensure they have greater access to higher education opportunities.
Speaking during the STPM Top Students, Malaysian University English Test (MUET) and Malay Language Proficiency Certificate for Foreign Nationals awards ceremony, Fadhlina described the initiative as an important step towards strengthening Malaysia&rsquo;s Form Six ecosystem.
Encouraging More Students To Choose Form Six

According to Fadhlina, every public university will sponsor at least one of the top STPM students by covering their undergraduate tuition fees.

&ldquo;If this year it is one student, hopefully next year it can be five,&rdquo; she said, adding that the ministry wants to ensure deserving students can continue their education at degree level without financial barriers.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to encourage more students to pursue Form Six studies, which remains one of Malaysia&rsquo;s most respected and affordable pre-university pathways.
The government has also introduced several measures in recent years to strengthen Form Six education, including the expansion of Form Six colleges, the provision of smartboards, school assistance programmes, MADANI Book Vouchers and additional academic support initiatives.
STPM 2025 Records Stronger Results

The announcement comes alongside another positive milestone for STPM candidates.
The Malaysian Examinations Council revealed that 1,336 students achieved a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in the 2025 examination, an increase of 70 students compared to the previous year.
The number represents 3.5 per cent of the 40,199 candidates who registered for the examination.
Overall performance also improved, with Malaysia&rsquo;s national CGPA rising from 2.85 in 2024 to 2.88 in 2025 &mdash; the highest national average ever recorded for the examination.
Meanwhile, the number of students obtaining five As increased from 53 in 2024 to 60 in 2025, while those earning four As rose from 1,228 to 1,285 candidates.
The percentage of candidates achieving a full pass in four or five subjects also increased, reaching 77.64 per cent compared to 76.55 per cent the previous year.
Recognising Excellence Across Different Categories

This year&rsquo;s 18 top national achievers represent a diverse group of students from various backgrounds.
The recipients include seven students from the Science stream, seven from the Social Science stream, one Orang Asli student, and three students with special educational needs, including candidates with visual impairments and other disabilities.
In recognition of their achievements, each student received RM1,000 in cash, a plaque and a certificate, in addition to the newly announced tuition fee sponsorships.
Parents And Teachers Recognised For Their Support
Fadhlina also paid tribute to parents and teachers, highlighting the important role they play in students&rsquo; academic success.
She noted that exceptional examination results are rarely achieved through individual effort alone, but are often supported by families and educators who continuously encourage students throughout their educational journey.
The minister stressed that STPM remains one of the strongest pathways into higher education, offering students a solid foundation before progressing to degree-level studies.
With tuition fee waivers now being offered to the country&rsquo;s best performers, the government hopes more students will see Form Six as an attractive route towards achieving their academic ambitions while strengthening Malaysia&rsquo;s education system for the future.
