The incident, which occurred at around 7.05pm on 4th July, gained widespread attention after videos recorded by a passenger began circulating on social media. The footage showed smoke and sparks coming from the train, raising concerns among Malaysians about the safety of the recently launched rail service.

According to a passenger who shared his experience online, he boarded the train at Stadium Shah Alam Station at around 7pm, travelling towards Bandar Utama.
While the train was making its way towards Kerjaya Station, it suddenly came to a complete stop on the elevated track without warning. The unexpected halt reportedly caused some passengers to become anxious, particularly as there was no immediate indication of what had happened.
After remaining stationary for around two minutes, the train resumed its journey as normal, leading many passengers to believe the issue had been resolved.
However, shortly after passing Damansara Idaman Station, commuters heard what was described as a loud explosion-like sound coming from outside the train. Some passengers also noticed smoke through the windows, while others looked outside to identify the source of the noise.

Although the incident caused concern inside the carriage, the train continued safely to the next station.
Upon arrival, all passengers were instructed to disembark before being directed to board the next available train to continue their journey.
The passenger who shared the incident online said the replacement train arrived at around 7.34pm, and he eventually reached Bandar Utama Station at approximately 7.42pm.
Videos Show Sparks Coming From The Train

Videos uploaded to social media captured moments after the passengers had left the affected train.
In one of the clips, the train could be seen departing the station without passengers on board while loud noises could be heard. Visible sparks also appeared to be coming from the rear section of the train as it moved away, fuelling speculation online about what had caused the incident.
The videos quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with many users expressing concern given that the Shah Alam Line had only recently begun operations.

Responding to the viral videos, Rapid KL issued an official statement on 14th July, confirming that investigations had identified the cause of the incident.
According to the rail operator, one of the train's components experienced a technical fault and came into contact with the power conductor, resulting in a small explosion-like sound and visible sparks.
Rapid KL explained that the train was immediately withdrawn from service following the incident as a precaution.
Passengers were safely asked to disembark at the next station before continuing their journeys on another train, while operations along the rest of the Shah Alam Line continued without disruption.
The company also confirmed that no passengers or staff were injured during the incident.
Train Cleared To Return To Service

Following its removal from service, the affected train was sent to the depot for a thorough technical inspection.
Engineers identified the faulty component responsible for the incident and replaced it before carrying out a series of detailed safety inspections and operational tests. Only after the train successfully passed all required inspections was it approved to return to normal service.
Rapid KL added that similar inspections and monitoring have also been carried out on other trains operating along the Shah Alam Line as an additional preventive measure to minimise the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future.
Safety Remains The Top Priority
Rapid KL reiterated that passenger safety remains its highest priority and that every incident affecting its rail services is taken seriously.
The operator encouraged commuters to stay updated on the latest service information through Rapid KL's official social media channels and the MyRapid PULSE mobile application, where any operational updates will be announced.
The LRT3 Shah Alam Line, which officially opened to the public on 29th June, is currently offering free rides until 31st July as part of its introductory period. Spanning 37.8km, the line connects Bandar Utama and Johan Setia through 20 operational stations, providing a long-awaited public transport link for communities across Shah Alam and Klang.
While the incident understandably raised concerns among passengers, Rapid KL maintains that it was an isolated technical fault that was promptly addressed, with the affected train repaired, inspected and certified safe before returning to operation.

Malaysia's Home Ministry (KDN) has launched a comprehensive investigation into the operations of Network School, a technology-focused residential community based in Johor's Forest City, following allegations that Israeli nationals may have entered Malaysia using passports issued by other countries.

Authorities have stressed that the investigation is focused on determining whether any immigration laws were breached, rather than making conclusions before the inquiry is completed.
Authorities Investigating Immigration And National Security Concerns

In a statement, the Home Ministry said it is working together with the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other relevant agencies to establish the identities and nationalities of individuals linked to Network School.
Investigators will also examine the validity of the travel documents used, the types of immigration passes granted, the purpose of entry into Malaysia, and whether those involved complied with the country's immigration laws and other relevant legislation.
A key issue being examined is whether any individuals entered Malaysia using passports from third countries in order to bypass restrictions on Israeli passport holders.
Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and Israeli passport holders are generally prohibited from entering the country without special approval from the Home Ministry. However, Malaysia does not prohibit individuals with dual citizenship from travelling using a non-Israeli passport, making the investigation crucial in determining whether any laws or immigration conditions were violated.
The ministry emphasised that any misuse of immigration facilities, submission of false information, abuse of immigration passes or offences affecting national security would be dealt with firmly and "without compromise".
It also urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing.
Johor Government Calls For Thorough Probe

Earlier, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi called on both federal and state agencies to conduct a full investigation into Network School following growing public concern.
He said the Johor government would not allow the state to become a base for activities, ideologies or movements that conflict with Malaysian laws, national sovereignty or the interests of Johor.
Among the agencies asked to investigate are the Home Ministry, Immigration Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and other relevant security agencies.
According to Onn Hafiz, authorities have been instructed to verify the identities and nationalities of individuals involved, examine whether second passports were used, determine the purpose of their entry into Malaysia and establish whether their actual activities matched the reasons declared when entering the country.
In addition, the Higher Education Ministry, Digital Ministry and relevant regulatory bodies have been asked to determine the legal status of Network School's operations, including whether its programmes require registration or approval under Malaysian law.
At the state level, agencies including the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) and the Johor Land and Mines Office will also review compliance involving business licences, land use, accommodation, premises and other regulatory requirements.
What Is Network School?

Founded in 2024 by former Coinbase Chief Technology Officer and American entrepreneur Balaji Srinivasan, Network School describes itself as a co-living and co-learning community for entrepreneurs, technology founders, remote workers and content creators.
The project is based on Srinivasan's concept of a "network state" &mdash; a digitally connected community that eventually develops into a physical settlement with its own economic and social ecosystem.
Located in Forest City, the community markets itself as a hub for "techno-optimists" and startup founders, offering accommodation, co-working spaces, fitness facilities, networking opportunities and educational programmes through a monthly membership.
The development has also hosted talks featuring several prominent technology entrepreneurs and investors from around the world.
However, the current investigation centres on immigration compliance and the identities of individuals participating in the programme, rather than the community's concept itself.
Forest City Once Again Under The Spotlight

Its location, directly opposite Singapore and within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, has also attracted international entrepreneurs and businesses in recent years.
Last year, Network School gained further public attention after Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo visited the site and described Malaysia as an increasingly attractive destination for global technology talent. Reports also suggested that Srinivasan had proposed closer collaboration with the Malaysian government, including ideas involving digital visa processing, although no formal policy changes were announced.
Separately, the project also attracted controversy in 2024 after Israeli content creator Nas Daily appeared in promotional material filmed at Network School.

For now, the Home Ministry has stressed that investigations are still in the early stages and no conclusions have been reached.
Authorities are working with multiple government agencies to determine whether any immigration offences, misuse of travel documents or activities affecting national security have occurred.
The ministry reiterated that the MADANI Government would not tolerate any individual or organisation found to have abused Malaysia's immigration system or engaged in activities that threaten public order, national security or the country's sovereignty.

Directed by Baltasar Korm&aacute;kur (Everest, Apex), The Big Fix is a Netflix crime thriller inspired by true events.
The story follows a former Interpol officer working within FIFA who uncovers a vast international football match-fixing syndicate. What begins as a routine investigation soon develops into a dangerous global pursuit involving organised crime, corruption and high-stakes manipulation of the world's most popular sport.
The screenplay is written by Guy Bolton and Justin Haythe, with the film drawing inspiration from Brett Forrest's investigative work into international football match-fixing.
Given the story's strong links to Southeast Asia, Penang's inclusion as a filming location is seen as a natural fit, offering authentic regional settings rather than relying entirely on studio recreations.

Malaysian K-Pop fans, get ready &mdash; rookie girl group izna (이즈나) is officially heading to Kuala Lumpur for the first time this December!
The group has announced their first-ever concert tour, &ldquo;WHO DAT GIRL?&rdquo;, which will see them travel across Asia for a series of performances. The tour will begin in Seoul this September before making stops in cities including Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
The Kuala Lumpur stop will take place on 5 December 2026 (Saturday) at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, marking izna&rsquo;s first performance in Malaysia since their debut in 2024.
Fans can look forward to seeing the members showcase their energetic performances, impressive choreography and hit tracks, including popular songs such as &ldquo;SIGN&rdquo; and &ldquo;Mamma Mia&rdquo;.
Who Is izna?

izna is a seven-member South Korean girl group formed through the survival reality show &ldquo;I-LAND 2: N/a&rdquo;, a collaboration between WAKEONE and Mnet. The group officially debuted in November 2024 with their first mini album &ldquo;N/a&rdquo;.
The group consists of members Mai, Jeemin, Koko, Sarang, Jungeun and Saebi, who were selected through the competition programme that gained attention from K-Pop fans worldwide.

K-Pop Girl Group izna To Perform In Kuala Lumpur For The First Time This December

Apple has filed a major lawsuit against OpenAI and two former Apple employees, accusing them of misappropriating confidential trade secrets to accelerate the development of OpenAI&rsquo;s consumer hardware ambitions.
The case, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, marks a dramatic escalation in tensions between the two companies, which were once close partners through ChatGPT&rsquo;s integration into Apple Intelligence and Siri. Apple is seeking damages, a jury trial, and court orders requiring OpenAI to stop using any allegedly misappropriated information and destroy any confidential Apple materials in its possession.
It is important to note that these are allegations made in a civil lawsuit. None of the defendants have been found liable, and the claims have yet to be tested in court.
Malaysian-born former Apple executive among those named

One of the individuals at the centre of the lawsuit is Tang Yew Tan, a Malaysian-born engineer who spent 24 years at Apple before becoming OpenAI&rsquo;s Chief Hardware Officer.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Tan studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London before earning a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He joined Apple as a fresh graduate and went on to become one of the company's most senior hardware executives, overseeing the development of products including the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods.
After leaving Apple in 2024, Tan co-founded hardware start-up io Products alongside former Apple design chief Jony Ive and other Apple veterans. OpenAI later acquired the company in a deal reportedly worth US$6.5 billion, bringing Tan into the AI company as its hardware chief.
Apple claims Tan played a key role in recruiting former Apple engineers to OpenAI as the company expanded its hardware division to develop next-generation AI devices.
What Apple is alleging

In its 41-page complaint, Apple alleges there was a coordinated effort involving OpenAI and former Apple employees to obtain confidential information relating to unreleased products, manufacturing processes, engineering designs and supplier relationships.
Among the allegations against Tan, Apple claims he emailed confidential supplier information and internal industry summaries to his personal email before leaving the company. Apple also alleges he encouraged Apple employees interviewing at OpenAI to bring physical hardware components, including batteries, circuit boards, system-in-package chips and other unreleased parts, for "show and tell" sessions during interviews.
The lawsuit further alleges Tan used confidential Apple project codenames to question candidates about unreleased products and distributed guidance advising departing Apple employees on how to avoid triggering Apple's internal security procedures while retaining access to confidential information for as long as possible.
Apple also claims OpenAI later approached some of its manufacturing partners using insider knowledge, including allegedly requesting a supplier to replicate Apple's proprietary metal-finishing process by suggesting the work had Apple's approval.
Separate allegations against another former Apple engineer

The lawsuit also names former Apple senior systems electrical engineer Chang Liu, who joined OpenAI earlier this year.
Apple alleges Liu failed to return his company-issued MacBook after resigning and discovered an authentication vulnerability that allowed him to continue accessing Apple's internal systems despite no longer being employed by the company.
According to the complaint, Liu allegedly used this access to download dozens of confidential files containing engineering presentations, hardware designs, manufacturing information, technical specifications and testing procedures while already working for OpenAI.
Apple also alleges Liu recruited other Apple employees and advised them on which confidential materials to review before OpenAI interviews, as well as methods of copying files that would avoid Apple's internal detection systems.
The lawsuit references messages allegedly exchanged between Liu and a former Apple colleague, including one in which Liu reportedly wrote that he had discovered he could still access Apple's internal network storage after leaving the company.
From partners to rivals

The lawsuit highlights how the relationship between Apple and OpenAI has rapidly deteriorated over the past two years.
The companies announced a high-profile partnership in 2024 that integrated ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence. However, OpenAI's aggressive recruitment of Apple engineers, coupled with its push into consumer hardware following the acquisition of io Products, reportedly strained that relationship.
Apple claims it became increasingly concerned that confidential information was making its way into OpenAI's hardware division. According to the complaint, Apple sent a formal letter to OpenAI in February 2026 outlining its concerns and requesting an investigation, but alleges it never received a response.
The dispute intensified further after Apple reportedly replaced ChatGPT with Google's Gemini for its revamped Siri experience and OpenAI continued recruiting senior Apple executives, including the head of Apple's smart glasses programme.
Apple says more than 400 former Apple employees now work at OpenAI. While it acknowledges that employees are free to change employers, it argues that doing so does not entitle competitors to benefit from Apple's confidential information or trade secrets.
OpenAI denies wrongdoing
OpenAI has rejected Apple's accusations, saying it has no interest in using competitors' trade secrets.
"We have no interest in other companies' trade secrets. We remain focused on building innovative technology that empowers people everywhere," the company said in a statement.
Neither Tang Yew Tan nor Chang Liu has publicly responded to the allegations at the time of writing.
As both Apple and OpenAI race to develop the next generation of AI-powered consumer devices that could eventually move beyond smartphones, the case is expected to become one of the technology industry's most closely watched legal battles. The outcome could have significant implications for how companies recruit talent, protect trade secrets and compete in the rapidly evolving AI hardware market.
