Malaysians planning a road trip to Thailand are being reminded to carry a physical driving licence, as Thailand does not recognise Malaysia's digital licence available through the MyJPJ app.
The reminder comes after a Malaysian driver was fined 1,000 baht (around RM121) during a roadblock in Hat Yai after she was unable to produce a physical driving licence despite showing the digital version on her phone.
While digital licences have become the norm for motorists in Malaysia, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has stressed that the same rules do not apply overseas.
Malaysian Driver Fined After Showing MyJPJ Digital Licence

The incident took place during a traffic inspection in Hat Yai, a popular destination among Malaysian travellers.
According to Thai authorities, the woman presented her digital driving licence via the MyJPJ application after being asked to produce her licence.
However, Thai police informed her that only a physical Malaysian driving licence or an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recognised under their regulations.
As she was unable to provide either document, she was issued a 1,000 baht (approximately RM121) fine for failing to produce a valid driving licence.
The case has since prompted JPJ to remind Malaysians travelling by car into Thailand to check that they have the correct documents before crossing the border.
Why Malaysia Switched To Digital Driving Licences

Malaysia introduced digital driving licences and digital road tax in February 2023 as part of the government's wider digitalisation initiative.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced at the time that owners of privately registered vehicles would no longer be required to display a physical road tax sticker or carry a physical driving licence while driving within Malaysia.
Instead, motorists could access both documents digitally through the MyJPJ app or the JPJ website, making it easier to store, renew and verify vehicle-related documents without needing physical copies.
The move was intended to improve convenience, reduce paperwork and support the country's push towards digital government services.
However, the digital licence is only recognised by Malaysian enforcement authorities and does not automatically extend to other countries.
Thailand Still Requires A Physical Licence

Kelantan JPJ director Mohd Misuari Abdullah reminded motorists that although digital licences are perfectly valid within Malaysia, Thailand continues to require drivers to present either a physical driving licence or an International Driving Permit during inspections.
He urged Malaysians planning to drive across the border not to rely solely on the MyJPJ app, as doing so could result in fines or unnecessary delays during roadblocks.
Many travellers already prepare essentials such as passports, vehicle ownership documents, insurance, Thai SIM cards and exchanged currency before entering Thailand. However, officials noted that some drivers overlook bringing their physical driving licence after becoming accustomed to using the digital version in Malaysia.
How To Get A Physical Driving Licence

For Malaysians who no longer have a physical licence, obtaining one is relatively straightforward.
A physical driving licence can be applied for at any JPJ counter nationwide for a fee of RM20, while non-Malaysians are charged RM100.
Previously, applicants were required to provide proof of overseas travel before a physical licence would be issued. However, that requirement was removed in January 2026, making it easier for motorists to obtain one regardless of their travel plans.
Travelling Overseas? Consider An International Driving Permit

According to FIFA, the performance itself will last around 11 minutes and is being organised in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aiming to raise funds to improve access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described education as one of the organisation's key priorities and said the event would help raise both awareness and funding for the global campaign.
Why The Half-Time Break Will Be Longer

Although the performance is expected to last only around 11 minutes, additional time will be needed to construct and remove the stage inside MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

However, multiple reports suggest the World Cup final break could last anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes to accommodate the production.
FIFA has yet to officially confirm the final duration, but similar extended intervals have already been seen at recent tournaments.

&ldquo;The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as &lsquo;THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,&rsquo;&rdquo; Trump said, adding that the country should be compensated for providing security in the volatile region.
Under the original proposal, a 20% fee would be imposed on all cargo transported through the Strait of Hormuz to cover the costs of military operations and ensuring safe passage for ships.
Trump argued that the US had taken on too much responsibility in protecting the international trade route, while other countries benefited from the security provided by American forces.
The proposal quickly faced criticism, with shipping companies and legal experts questioning how the fee would be implemented and whether it would comply with international maritime laws. Analysts also warned that mandatory charges on an international waterway could disrupt global trade.

Trump later reversed his decision following what he described as &ldquo;highly productive conversations&rdquo; with Middle Eastern leaders.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that the 20% reimbursement fee would be replaced with trade and investment deals from Gulf countries into the US economy.
Countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait were among those reportedly involved in discussions.
Trump described the planned investments as &ldquo;massive&rdquo;, although details on the value and timeline of the agreements have not been disclosed.
The president said the new approach would be a better solution, as he did not believe countries should be allowed to charge fees for access to international waterways.
&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think anybody should be able to charge for the strait, or for any other strait anywhere else in the world,&rdquo; Trump said.

However, renewed clashes have placed the agreement under pressure, with Washington accusing Iran of threatening commercial shipping, while Tehran has accused the US of interfering with its control over the strategic route.
The ongoing conflict has also affected global markets, with oil prices rising as shipping activity through the strait slowed.

Although Trump abandoned the 20% cargo fee plan, he has continued to issue warnings against Iran.
In a recent interview, Trump threatened to strike Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants, if Tehran does not return to negotiations.
&ldquo;Next week it gets really bad for them,&rdquo; Trump said, warning that the US could target key infrastructure unless Iran agrees to resume talks.
The comments came after further US strikes on Iranian military positions, followed by Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting American allies in the region, including Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
Iran has rejected Trump&rsquo;s pressure campaign, warning that increased military and economic measures would not force the country back into negotiations.
With tensions still escalating, the Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the dispute, raising concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies and international shipping.

Who Are BOYNEXTDOOR?

BOYNEXTDOOR is a six-member South Korean boy group under KOZ Entertainment, the label founded by acclaimed rapper, producer and songwriter Zico. The group consists of Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan and Woonhak.

The tour kicks off in Seoul this July before travelling across South Korea, Japan, North America and Asia. Japanese fans will see the group perform in cities including Kanagawa, Osaka, Miyagi, Nagano, Saga and Chiba, before the tour heads to North America with stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver and Mexico City.
The Asian leg will continue towards the end of the year, with performances scheduled in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok between December 2026 and January 2027.
The world tour also supports BOYNEXTDOOR's first full-length album, HOME, allowing fans to experience the group's latest music alongside their biggest hits in a live concert setting.
