Everyone knows that Formula 1 drivers are some of the ultimate athletes in motorsport. Behind the wheel of an F1 car travelling at more than 300km/h, drivers need exceptional stamina, strength, concentration and mental resilience to cope with the physical demands of a Grand Prix.
And then there is everyone&rsquo;s favourite Finnish racing driver, Valtteri Bottas, who appears to be taking his fitness routine to another level ahead of this weekend&rsquo;s Singapore Grand Prix.
Instead of taking the usual flight or travelling by car with the rest of the F1 paddock, the 37-year-old Cadillac Formula 1 driver has decided to cycle around 350km from Sepang, Malaysia, to Singapore.
Yes, you read that right. After finishing his Malaysian Grand Prix weekend early, Bottas swapped four wheels for two and began a multi-day cycling adventure towards the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
From Sepang To Singapore On Two Wheels

Bottas began his journey on Sunday evening, just hours after retiring from the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit.
The 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix was held in Malaysia as a one-off replacement for the original Bahrain race, bringing F1 back to Sepang for the first time since 2017. However, Bottas' race was unfortunately cut short on Lap 9.
The Cadillac driver had opted to start on slick tyres despite the wet conditions, but the gamble failed to pay off when he spun into the gravel and was forced to retire.
Rather than heading straight to the airport for the short journey to Singapore, Bottas got on his gravel bike and began riding south.

His first recorded stage covered 56.6km in just over two hours, with his cycling activity labelled "Malaysia to Singapore Day 1" on Strava. He travelled from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport area towards Port Dickson, with parts of the route taking him through gravel tracks and rural areas.
The following day, Bottas reportedly covered another 161.91km over nearly six hours, putting a significant portion of the 350km journey behind him.
He is expected to complete the trip over three days and arrive in Singapore in time for his mandatory media commitments on Thursday, ahead of practice for the Singapore Grand Prix on Friday.

While most F1 drivers will be travelling between the two countries by plane, Bottas has been spotted cycling through Malaysia, including some rather unusual routes.
One video shared by Bottas showed him riding through a dark, narrow path with only the light from his bicycle illuminating the way ahead. The route appeared to pass through a palm oil plantation, prompting plenty of reactions from Malaysian social media users.
Other motorists and cyclists have also reported spotting the F1 driver on the road.
One sighting showed Bottas riding through the Sungei Udang area in Melaka, roughly 245km from Singapore. He was also spotted riding alongside another cyclist, believed to be his partner and professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell.
For many Malaysians, seeing an F1 driver casually cycling through rural roads and plantations at night is certainly not something you see every day.
Cycling Is A Serious Part Of Bottas' Life

While the journey might sound extreme to the average person, cycling is far from a random hobby for Bottas.
The Finnish driver has developed a strong passion for cycling and gravel racing over the years, regularly using long-distance rides as part of his physical conditioning as well as a way to unwind away from Formula 1.
Bottas has competed in several high-level gravel events and has even achieved podium finishes at races such as SBT Gravel and Belgium Waffle Ride. He is also closely involved with FNLD GRVL, a gravel cycling event held in his native Finland.
Earlier this year, Bottas also qualified for the UCI Gravel World Championships after finishing fifth in his age group at a qualifying event in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, the World Championships clash with the Singapore Grand Prix, meaning he will not be able to compete.
His partner, Tiffany Cromwell, is also an accomplished professional road and gravel cyclist, making cycling a shared passion for the couple.
"When I Miss Racing, Then I Race On My Bicycle"

For Bottas, cycling is not simply another way to stay fit during the F1 season.
He has previously explained that getting on a bike helps him both physically and mentally, describing it as a way to clear his head and relieve stress.
&ldquo;When I&rsquo;m on my bike, I gain cardio, but I also use the bike almost like a stress release,&rdquo; Bottas has said.
He also sees cycling as another way to challenge himself when he is away from the F1 cockpit.
In another interview, he explained his appreciation for cycling by pointing out that, unlike a racing car, the cyclist is the engine and the machine.
That mindset perhaps explains why a 350km journey between two Grands Prix does not seem quite as ridiculous to Bottas as it might to everyone else.
A Different Kind Of Reset Before Singapore

Bottas' unusual journey comes after a difficult start to his return to full-time Formula 1 racing.
After spending the 2025 season as a reserve driver, he returned to the grid in 2026 with the new Cadillac F1 team alongside Sergio Perez. However, the team's debut season has been challenging, with Cadillac yet to score a championship point.
Bottas' difficult weekend in Malaysia continued that run of form, with his race ending after just nine laps following his gamble on slick tyres.
Now, instead of simply moving from one hotel to another, he is getting several hundred kilometres of cycling into his legs before arriving at one of the most physically demanding races on the F1 calendar.
The Singapore Grand Prix is known for its heat, humidity and demanding Marina Bay Street Circuit, with drivers facing a long night race under the lights.
Whether the 350km ride will leave Bottas refreshed or completely exhausted remains to be seen.
But one thing is certain: while the rest of the F1 paddock is taking the conventional route from Malaysia to Singapore, Valtteri Bottas is quite literally taking the long way there.

Motorists in Malaysia can no longer use MyEG or Zetrix AI for certain JPJ payment services after the Road Transport Department (JPJ) suspended both companies as its collection agents effective 5 October 2026.
The suspension follows an outstanding RM314 million in government revenue collected by MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd that had not been transferred to the Ministry of Transport&rsquo;s (MOT) main revenue account.
However, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has assured motorists that the suspension will not affect the delivery of JPJ services, with alternative channels still available for renewing driving licences and road tax, paying summonses and handling other JPJ-related transactions.
Why Did JPJ Suspend MyEG And Zetrix AI?

According to Loke, the RM314 million in outstanding government revenue accumulated between 19 May and 30 September 2026.
The minister also clarified that the outstanding amount did not accumulate over three years, as had been reported in some quarters. Instead, the current RM314 million in arrears began building up in May this year.
Prior to the suspension, MOT and JPJ had taken several steps to recover the outstanding revenue. These included issuing 35 reminder notices, setting deadlines for payment and holding four engagement sessions with the companies and other relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance.
The companies had also submitted a post-dated cheque worth RM231 million on 21 August, intended to settle the amount owed at that time. However, when the cheque was presented on 30 September, it was not processed by the bank following instructions from the company.
As a result, JPJ proceeded with the suspension of MyEG and Zetrix AI's services from 12.01am on 5 October.
Loke said the suspension will remain in place until the full outstanding amount has been settled, after which the government will consider whether the services should resume. The government is also preparing to take legal action to recover the full RM314 million.
Can You Still Renew Your Road Tax And Driving Licence?

Yes you can but not via the systems. The suspension of MyEG and Zetrix AI does not mean that Malaysians can no longer renew their road tax or driving licences.
Motorists can continue using official JPJ channels, including the MyJPJ app, JPJ Public Portal, physical JPJ counters and JPJ kiosks.
This means motorists who normally rely on MyEG for routine transactions will need to switch to one of these alternative platforms while the suspension remains in place.
For those who prefer handling their transactions digitally, the MyJPJ application and JPJ Public Portal provide alternatives without requiring a visit to a physical counter.
Alternative Ways To Pay JPJ Summonses

The suspension also affects payment services provided through MyEG and Zetrix AI, but JPJ summonses can still be paid through other official channels.
For non-Malaysians travelling through the Malaysia-Singapore border, JPJ is also providing additional assistance through mobile counters in Johor.
The Mobile JPJ Counters at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar will operate from 8am to 10pm, allowing non-Malaysians to settle traffic summonses at the country's main southern entry points.
KPP01 Theory Test Services Continue

The changes also cover the computerised KPP01 Theory Test for driving licence candidates.
Instead of relying on centres previously operated through MyEG, candidates can now take the computerised theory test directly through 85 approved driving institutes authorised by JPJ.
This means candidates can continue with their driving licence process despite the suspension of MyEG and Zetrix AI's services.
Government To Recover RM314 Million

Loke has stressed that MyEG and Zetrix AI acted as collection agents and that the money collected through these services belongs to the government.
The government therefore intends to recover the full RM314 million through appropriate legal action. Loke also dismissed claims that the suspension was politically motivated, saying the decision was based on the outstanding government revenue and the companies' failure to fulfil their obligations.
He added that the government has provisions to terminate the agreement if necessary and that there would be no question of compensation if the contract is ended due to non-compliance.
Questions Raised Over Government Oversight
Beyond the immediate impact on JPJ services, the RM314 million arrears have also raised questions about financial controls and government oversight.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said the issue goes beyond the outstanding payment itself, questioning how such a large amount could accumulate despite repeated reminders and engagement sessions.
The PAC has also raised concerns about the monitoring mechanisms in place for third-party collection agents and whether the government's interests and public funds were sufficiently protected.
Malaysia Corruption Watch similarly called for a transparent review of the collection and remittance process, particularly given the 35 reminder notices and the RM231 million cheque that was not processed.
For motorists, however, the immediate takeaway is simple: MyEG and Zetrix AI are no longer available for JPJ payment services, but road tax renewals, driving licence renewals, summons payments and other JPJ-related transactions can still be carried out through alternative official channels.

Malaysia could be on course for a potential return to the Formula 1 calendar, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirming that discussions are already under way following the successful return of F1 to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
The 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, held at Sepang from 2 to 4 October, marked the first Formula 1 race at the Malaysian circuit since 2017. Although the event was originally scheduled to take place in Bahrain, security concerns linked to the conflict in the Middle East led to the race being relocated to Malaysia as a one-off event.
The strong response from Malaysian fans has now reignited hopes of seeing the Malaysian Grand Prix return as a permanent F1 fixture. However, significant financial and logistical considerations will need to be addressed before Malaysia can make a decision.
Malaysia Has Started Discussions To Bring F1 Back

Speaking during the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang, Anwar confirmed that the government is discussing the possibility of bringing Formula 1 back to Malaysia.
The Prime Minister said discussions had been opened with F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, although he stressed that the process remains at an early stage.
Anwar also discussed the possibility directly with Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle while at the circuit. When asked about Malaysia potentially returning to the F1 calendar, he said the government was looking forward to it and that discussions were already taking place.
In a separate Facebook post, Anwar said any potential return would require careful planning. The F1 calendar is already heavily packed, with existing host countries tied to contractual commitments, meaning Malaysia would also need to secure an available slot.
The matter is expected to be brought to the Cabinet for further consideration, including Malaysia's ability to host the event, the financial commitment involved and the potential economic and social benefits for the country.
RM300 Million A Year Needed For A Permanent F1 Return

One of the biggest challenges facing a permanent F1 return to Malaysia is the cost.
Sepang International Circuit CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif has previously estimated that Malaysia would need to spend at least RM300 million a year to secure a regular place on the Formula 1 calendar. This figure relates to the hosting rights and does not necessarily include all the additional costs associated with preparing and staging the race locally.
That is considerably higher than the estimated RM10 million to RM16 million Malaysia spent on hosting the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix as a replacement venue. The difference was possible because Bahrain had already covered the major hosting costs for its race.
This means Malaysia's successful one-off event does not necessarily indicate that a permanent return would be financially straightforward.
Malaysia previously stopped hosting F1 in 2017 partly because of rising hosting and licensing costs, making the financial question particularly important as the government considers another long-term commitment.
Sepang Says It Is Ready To Host F1 Again

Despite the financial hurdle, Malaysia already has the infrastructure and experience needed to host a Formula 1 race.
Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) president Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir said Sepang International Circuit remains capable of hosting F1, with its previous experience in organising the event providing a strong foundation.
Mokhzani said the final decision would ultimately depend on the government and whether the economic impact and multiplier effect of hosting F1 could justify the investment.
He also proposed a possible five-year &ldquo;3+2&rdquo; arrangement, where Malaysia would initially commit to three years before having the option to extend the agreement for another two. Such a structure could provide greater certainty for organisers, fans and international visitors.
F1 Could Bring Wider Economic Benefits To Malaysia

Beyond the race itself, supporters of an F1 return argue that the event could generate benefits for businesses and the wider Malaysian tourism industry.

The 2026 event also provided opportunities for local businesses. Around 40 local traders participated in the Karnival Litar Rasa MADANI at the G Hillstand, giving food and beverage vendors the opportunity to benefit from the large crowds at Sepang.
Anwar highlighted the initiative as an example of how major international events could create opportunities for local traders while giving spectators access to Malaysian food and businesses.
Strong Fan Response Shows Malaysians Still Want F1

The atmosphere surrounding F1's return to Sepang also demonstrated that interest in the sport remains strong after a nine-year absence.

Anwar described the return as a meaningful occasion for motorsport fans around the world, praising the drivers and teams for delivering an exciting race. He also congratulated Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull Racing following the event.
The Prime Minister's own reaction to the rainy race summed up the enthusiasm surrounding F1's return. Despite being drenched by the heavy rain, Anwar said he was excited and that the entire country was rejoicing.

He also expressed hope that the cooperation between Malaysia and Bahrain would strengthen bilateral ties and create further opportunities that benefit both countries.
Will Formula 1 Return To Malaysia Permanently?

For now, there is no confirmed date for Malaysia's permanent return to the F1 calendar.

Malaysia previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix every year from 1999 to 2017, making Sepang one of F1's established venues before rising costs and diminishing returns led to its departure from the calendar.

Malaysia Considers F1 Return To Sepang, But RM300 Million Annual Cost Remains A Major Hurdle

Fujifilm has introduced the Instax Pal 2, a redesigned compact digital camera that brings a more traditional film-camera experience to its popular Instax ecosystem.
Unlike conventional Instax cameras, the Instax Pal 2 does not print photos directly. Instead, it captures digital images that can be transferred to a smartphone, stored on a memory card or sent to compatible Instax printers and hybrid cameras for physical prints.
For Malaysian consumers, the new camera is now starting to appear at local retailers, with Shashinki listing the Fujifilm Instax Pal 2 at RM899. This makes it considerably more expensive than the original Instax Pal, which launched in Malaysia at RM499.
The higher price comes with a significant redesign and upgraded features, including a 10-megapixel sensor, optical viewfinder, top-mounted display, physical controls and USB-C connectivity.
A Completely Redesigned Instax Pal

The Instax Pal 2 retains this concept but completely changes the camera itself.
Measuring 37 x 42 x 92mm, the new model adopts a horizontal, miniature film-camera-inspired design. Its rounded predecessor has been replaced by a more conventional body with a semi-matte finish, optical viewfinder, top-mounted colour display, control dial and mechanical lever.
10MP Sensor And Creative Features

Users can frame shots through the optical viewfinder, review images on the top-mounted display and use the control dial to switch between filters and effects.
The camera supports several shooting formats, including Instax Mini, Instax Square and Instax Wide, as well as a frameless 4:3 option.
30 Filters And Flipbook-Style Animations

The camera also introduces Instax Animation mode, which captures up to 10 consecutive frames and combines them into a short, flipbook-style animation.
Through the app, users can further edit their photographs with filters, text and stickers before sharing them on social media.
Transfer Photos Directly To Your Phone

Fujifilm says wired transfers can move individual images in around 0.7 seconds while retaining the full resolution of up to 3776 x 2832 pixels.
The camera has built-in storage for around 100 photos, double the original Pal's capacity. A microSD card can also be used for additional storage.
The Instax Pal 2 Does Not Print By Itself

Despite its Instax branding, the Instax Pal 2 does not have a built-in printer. Users can keep their photographs digitally or send them to compatible Fujifilm devices for physical prints.
The camera works with Instax Link smartphone printers and compatible hybrid cameras such as the Instax Mini Evo, Instax Wide Evo and Instax Mini LiPlay.

Sleeping With Sirens Is Coming To Kuala Lumpur After 14 Long Years!

A trip to Kunming, China, turned into an emotional journey into the past for Malaysian traveller Zhang Huiqing when she unexpectedly discovered photographs of her late grandfather displayed on a public historical wall.
While walking along Xinwen South Road in Yunnan province in mid-September, Zhang noticed a familiar face among the photographs displayed on the Nanyang Volunteers History and Culture Wall. It was her grandfather, Kuang Jinyuan, a Malaysian-born mechanic who had travelled to China during World War II to support the country&rsquo;s resistance against Japanese forces.

The unexpected discovery left Zhang stunned, particularly because her grandfather had never spoken to the family about his wartime experiences.
&ldquo;I was walking down the street while holding a cup of coffee. Suddenly, I felt someone watching me. I crossed the road and found my grandfather&rsquo;s photos on the wall,&rdquo; Zhang said in a video shared on social media.
The video quickly went viral, reportedly receiving one million views within two days and attracting around 10,000 comments.
A Malaysian Volunteer Who Went To China In 1939

Kuang was born in Alor Setar, Malaysia, in 1914. At the age of 25, he responded to a call for overseas Chinese volunteers with driving and mechanical skills to support China&rsquo;s war effort.
By 1939, Japan had taken control of China&rsquo;s major coastal ports, making the transport of supplies into the country increasingly difficult. A newly constructed road linking Yunnan in southwestern China with Myanmar became a crucial supply route. With China in need of experienced drivers and mechanics, the Overseas Chinese Relief Fund called for skilled young volunteers to assist with maintaining the transport network.
Kuang answered the call and travelled to China without telling his mother. According to his wartime diaries, his responsibilities included repairing trucks, recovering vehicles that had fallen from cliffs and collecting military supplies scattered along the route.
His work placed him in dangerous conditions as the transport route became a vital lifeline for China's war effort.
He Survived An 18-Hour Siege

Kuang&rsquo;s wartime experience became even more perilous in 1942 when he was caught in an 18-hour siege by Japanese soldiers.
He eventually managed to escape the encirclement and embarked on a 24-day journey to reach Baoshan in Yunnan. Two of his comrades did not survive the journey.
Despite the dangers he faced, Kuang eventually returned to Malaysia in 1946 after the end of the war. He later died in 1993 at the age of 76.
However, he never told his family about what he had experienced during the war.
Family Discovered His Secret Decades Later

For decades, Kuang&rsquo;s wartime service remained largely unknown to his family.
It was only around 10 years ago that his relatives began uncovering his hidden history when volunteers from the Overseas Chinese Relief Fund visited the family home to collect historical materials.
Inside a trunk containing Kuang&rsquo;s belongings, they found photographs, diaries and work certificates documenting his time in China. The discovery gave the family a glimpse into a chapter of Kuang&rsquo;s life that he had kept largely to himself.
His story was later preserved on the Nanyang Volunteers History and Culture Wall in Kunming, alongside other overseas Chinese workers who contributed to China&rsquo;s wartime efforts. For Zhang, however, seeing his photograph displayed in public was something she could never have anticipated.
&ldquo;I never expected to encounter my grandfather in this way. I am proud of him. I will cherish this moment forever,&rdquo; she said in her video.
Viral Discovery Sparks Emotional Response In China
Zhang&rsquo;s unexpected discovery resonated with social media users across China, with many expressing gratitude towards her grandfather and the other overseas Chinese volunteers who supported China during World War II.
Comments included messages thanking the volunteers for their sacrifices, with one user telling Zhang that China was her grandfather&rsquo;s home and welcoming him back. The response also highlighted the enduring historical connections between China and overseas Chinese communities across Southeast Asia.

According to Zhang, Kuang&rsquo;s parents came from Lingbei Village in Taishan, Guangdong province. Following the circulation of her video, local media outlet Jiangmen Daily reportedly helped trace members of Kuang&rsquo;s extended clan who still live in the area.
Zhang has since said she plans to visit the ancestral village to learn more about her family&rsquo;s roots.
For her, what began as an ordinary walk through Kunming became an unexpected encounter with a grandfather whose wartime story had remained hidden for generations.
Now, decades after his return to Malaysia, Kuang&rsquo;s name and contribution are once again being remembered in the city where he once served.
