Apple has unveiled a new MacBook Pro range that brings touchscreen support to its laptops for the first time, alongside tandem OLED displays, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and a thinner, lighter design. Called the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, the new models come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and will be sold alongside the existing MacBook Pro models with Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED displays.
In Malaysia, prices start at RM11,999 for the 14-inch model and RM14,499 for the 16-inch version. Pre-orders are scheduled to open at 9am on 30 October 2026, with sales and deliveries beginning on 6 November.

The new range offers two chip options, with the M5 Pro aimed at demanding everyday professional workloads and the M5 Max intended for more intensive creative and computing tasks. Malaysian starting prices are:
<ul>
<li>14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro: RM11,999</li>
<li>14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max: RM19,299</li>
<li>16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro: RM14,499</li>
<li>16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max: RM20,499</li>
</ul>
Education pricing is available for eligible buyers, starting at RM11,399 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and RM13,599 for the 16-inch M5 Pro. The M5 Max versions start at RM17,999 and RM19,099 respectively under education pricing.
For comparison, the existing mini-LED MacBook Pro range starts at RM10,299 for the 14-inch M5 Pro and RM12,499 for the 16-inch M5 Pro. The M5 Max configurations start at RM15,599 and RM18,499 respectively. Based on these starting prices, the new touchscreen models cost RM1,700 more for the 14-inch M5 Pro and RM2,000 more for the 16-inch M5 Pro.
At the top end, a fully configured 16-inch model with an M5 Max chip, 128GB of unified memory, 16TB of SSD storage and nano-texture glass costs RM64,174 in Malaysia.
First MacBook With Touchscreen Support

The biggest change is the new PROLED XDR display, which uses tandem OLED technology instead of the mini-LED panels in existing models. Apple says it delivers a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits for HDR and SDR content. ProMotion supports adaptive refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz, while support for P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces is designed to benefit photographers, video editors and other professionals working with colour-sensitive material.
Users can tap, swipe, pinch to zoom, drag and drop items directly on the display while continuing to use the keyboard and trackpad. The touch sensor is integrated into the panel to reduce input delay, and Apple has redesigned the hinge to make the screen more stable when users touch it. Apple has not announced Apple Pencil support.
Dynamic Island also comes to the MacBook Pro, replacing the familiar notch with an interactive area for notifications, music controls, calls and Live Activities. The display has an optional nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare in bright environments.
Thinner Design, More Storage and Familiar Ports
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/68cd5786be469b70fdb36bd800403563296bd77f8925df098a6e3a4f9d47655c" />
The redesigned chassis is both thinner and lighter. The 14-inch model weighs around 1.36kg, compared with 1.60kg for its mini-LED counterpart, while the 16-inch model weighs about 1.81kg, down from 2.14kg. Apple has also brought back the illuminated Apple logo on the lid, a feature last seen on older MacBook designs before it was dropped in 2016.
Battery life is rated at up to 22 hours for the 14-inch model and up to 24 hours for the 16-inch version. Fast charging can take the battery from zero to 50% in around 30 minutes. Storage can now be configured up to 16TB, double the 8TB maximum on the existing range, while unified memory goes up to 128GB.
Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Wireless features include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The M5 Pro model supports up to three external displays, while M5 Max configurations can connect up to four.
Other features include a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones and a six-speaker sound system with redesigned woofers that Apple says deliver 50% deeper bass. The new laptops run macOS 27.
Is the Touchscreen Worth the Premium?
The new MacBook Pro is designed for users who want touchscreen interaction alongside traditional laptop controls, a high-end OLED display and expanded storage options. However, the existing mini-LED models remain available at lower starting prices, with similar chip options and battery life.
For Malaysian buyers, the decision largely comes down to whether the touchscreen, OLED panel and lighter design justify paying more. Those who mainly work with a keyboard and trackpad may prefer to save the difference, while creative professionals could find the display and direct touch controls useful for their workflow.

A total of 691 teachers in Malaysia have been identified as needing immediate psychological intervention following a nationwide screening of 82,126 educators by the Ministry of Education (MOE).
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the findings from the Psychological Well-being Inventory (IKPsi) showed that 0.84% of those screened required support. However, 99.16% recorded generally good psychological well-being, suggesting that most educators assessed were coping well, even as the ministry continues to focus on those who need help.
In a written parliamentary reply, Fadhlina outlined the screening results and measures available to support teachers&rsquo; mental health and overall welfare. She was responding to Sungai Besar MP Datuk Muslimin Yahaya, who asked about the number of teachers experiencing health problems and mental disorders, as well as the assistance provided to help them continue their lives and careers.
Breakdown of teachers&rsquo; psychological well-being
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/4d78c61865ee3e3bbbebc4c2c60949a39e3ba49f0259b217b9f8b1e8eec71ae2" />
Of the 691 teachers identified as requiring intervention, 636 were classified at a moderate level of psychological well-being, 32 at a moderately low level and 23 at a low level.
Among the wider group screened, 50,869 teachers recorded high psychological well-being, while another 30,566 were categorised as moderately high. Together, these groups made up the 99.16% who recorded generally good results.
Fadhlina said the findings would not lessen the ministry&rsquo;s attention to educators who need support. Instead, the MOE would continue to provide interventions based on individual needs, with the aim of helping teachers regain stability and maintain their well-being over the long term.
Counselling and targeted psychological support
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/22f164801c18fc00d831f0b5e2a891f82ab41cf0076072aafc5237ec57935f73" />
The ministry&rsquo;s approach covers development, prevention and recovery through psychological and counselling services. These include individual and group counselling, psychological assessments, guidance and consultation, stress-management programmes and emotional support for education personnel.
The intervention process begins with screening and identifying each person&rsquo;s needs before suitable support is provided. According to Fadhlina, assistance can be tailored to issues such as financial management, serious indebtedness, work performance and mental health concerns.
For teachers experiencing a crisis, intervention may help them stabilise their emotions, recognise their strengths and available support networks, and develop an action plan to resume their daily responsibilities. The ministry said its approach is intended not only to address immediate difficulties, but also to strengthen teachers&rsquo; ability to manage challenges and continue their careers with greater resilience.
Separate figures cited in another parliamentary response showed that, as of 25 September, 0.46% of teachers had sought MOE psychological and counselling services and were identified as having health problems. Of the overall teacher population, 0.13% were linked to physical health problems and 0.33% to mental health issues. These figures relate to records of those seeking services, rather than the IKPsi screening results.
RM200 million to upgrade teachers&rsquo; rooms
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3596815d37bdf18e379958c368778e530110137e21a9a625947c32c33cb11ea7" />
Alongside psychological support, the MOE has allocated RM200 million to upgrade teachers&rsquo; rooms, including an additional RM100 million in new funding. The initiative is intended to provide more comfortable workspaces, improve basic facilities and create a more conducive and professional environment.
Fadhlina said a suitable workplace could support teachers&rsquo; physical, emotional and psychological well-being, while also helping to maintain motivation and productivity. The upgrades form part of the ministry&rsquo;s wider effort to improve educators&rsquo; welfare rather than relying solely on counselling and intervention services.
Concerns over pressure faced by educators
Teachers&rsquo; mental health has also been raised by the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP). Last year, the union highlighted pressures including what it described as toxic school leadership, growing digital demands and harassment from parents.
NUTP secretary-general Fouzi Singon said some teachers felt isolated and unsupported, while fear of seeking help could allow mental health difficulties to worsen. The concerns underline the importance of making support accessible and creating working environments where educators feel able to seek assistance.
Fadhlina said the ministry would continue strengthening psychological and counselling services, with interventions tailored to the needs of education personnel. The aim is to help teachers maintain their well-being and carry out their responsibilities effectively.

691 Malaysian Teachers Need Immediate Psychological Support, Says Fadhlina Sidek

Malaysians travelling to mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos can now make QR payments at participating merchants using supported Malaysian mobile banking apps. The new service, launched by Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) through Ant International&rsquo;s Alipay+ platform, means travellers can pay directly through their existing banking app without downloading another application or signing up for an Alipay+ account.
At launch, the service is available through Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank, while Bank Islam is expected to join soon. PayNet says the service will be expanded progressively to more overseas destinations and may also be adopted by other participating banks and e-wallet providers.
How to Make Overseas DuitNow QR Payments
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/30170fa6e415fd999a95e15491af4230ba9c3ccc927be721add18b9ef64031b6" />
The payment process is intended to be as straightforward as using DuitNow QR at home. At a participating business displaying the Alipay+ logo, customers open the QR payment function in their Malaysian banking app and scan the merchant&rsquo;s QR code. They can then review the transaction details and confirm the payment within the same app.
Travellers do not need to download a separate app or create an Alipay+ account. However, the service currently works by customers scanning the merchant&rsquo;s QR code; it does not support the reverse arrangement in which a merchant scans a QR code displayed on the customer&rsquo;s phone. Users should check that their bank supports the feature and look for the Alipay+ logo before attempting to pay.
PayNet Extends Its Partnership with Alipay+
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/9de99645e04606afb9b28a599a7a1d7aa6b40ba995b7ded0d878e955315234cd" />
The launch builds on an existing partnership between PayNet and Ant International. Since November 2023, travellers using supported Alipay+ partner wallets have been able to pay at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia. That arrangement has helped local businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises, accept payments from international visitors using participating overseas wallets.
The new outbound service extends the connection in the other direction, enabling customers of participating Malaysian banks to pay at Alipay+-supported merchants abroad. Rather than requiring travellers to learn a new payment system or register for another digital wallet, the feature uses the banking apps they already have.
PayNet chief executive officer Praveen Rajan said cross-border payments should feel as familiar as paying at home. He added that collaboration between financial institutions and international payment partners can extend Malaysia&rsquo;s national payment infrastructure beyond its borders, make spending across borders easier and strengthen the country&rsquo;s economic links with the region.
The initiative also aligns with Bank Negara Malaysia&rsquo;s broader vision for cross-border payments that are faster, more efficient and inclusive.
Cross-Border QR Payments Continue to Grow
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/2a9c025e437b8b59c5c1d4c273be1ee3f5c1d15506c38c1f81a8cd26421b9a70" />
The expansion comes amid a sharp rise in cross-border payment activity. PayNet recorded nearly 30 million cross-border transactions in 2025, approximately 150% more than in 2024. Transactions linked to mainland China accounted for much of that growth, according to the company.
Alipay+ connects more than two billion user accounts through over 50 international payment partners, with more than 150 million merchants across over 210 markets, according to Ant International. The network gives connected payment services a wider reach, although the new DuitNow QR feature is only available at participating merchants in the five destinations announced at launch.
DuitNow QR is already interoperable with payment schemes in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia, allowing participating users to make cross-border payments in those markets. The latest Alipay+ launch is a separate expansion that brings outbound access through supported Malaysian banking apps to the five newly announced destinations.
PayNet will continue working with financial institutions and regional partners to bring the service to more apps and markets. Other PayNet-participating banks and e-wallet providers can also adopt the outbound QR capability, potentially allowing more Malaysians to make overseas payments through services they already use.
For travellers, the main benefit is convenience: in supported destinations, eligible users can pay by scanning a participating merchant&rsquo;s QR code through their Malaysian banking app. Before travelling, customers should confirm availability with their bank and remember that acceptance depends on the merchant displaying the Alipay+ logo.

Malaysians Can Now Use DuitNow QR To Pay In Five Overseas Destinations

The High Court has ordered a Threads user who was sued for defamation by Malaysian fashion entrepreneur Christy Ng to publish a public apology in two newspapers within four working days, after he told the court that he could not afford the publication costs.
Judge Arziah Mohamed Apandi directed J Vikneshvra Rau, 36, who operates the Threads account &ldquo;archnionverse&rdquo;, to publish an unconditional apology in English-language newspaper The Star and Malay-language newspaper Harian Metro. The wording must be acceptable to Ng and her company, Christy Ng Sdn Bhd.
The order was issued during committal proceedings over Rau&rsquo;s failure to comply with an earlier court direction. However, the judge declined to find that he had deliberately disobeyed the order, saying his explanation about his financial circumstances had merit.
What Happened in the Christy Ng Defamation Case?
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/62c2947f9dc637a083bbef1160ef85bb99574fa17cc500d32a2e876990fdf3b7" />
The dispute began after Rau allegedly published defamatory statements about Ng&rsquo;s business practices on Threads in November 2025. Ng and her company subsequently filed a civil suit against him on 25 November 2025, arguing that the statements had harmed their reputation.
On 13 February 2026, the High Court entered a judgment in default of appearance against Rau after he failed to appear in the proceedings. The court issued an injunction preventing him from publishing further defamatory statements and ordered him to issue a full-page, unconditional public apology in newspapers selected by Ng, as well as on his social media account.
Rau later published an apology on Threads on 19 March 2026. However, he did not publish the apology in the newspapers as required by the court order.
On 25 June, the High Court awarded total damages of RM180,000 to Ng and her company. Of this amount, RM140,000 was awarded to Ng personally, while RM40,000 went to Christy Ng Sdn Bhd. The court also ordered interest and legal costs, with RM10,000 in legal costs reported separately.
After Rau failed to fulfil the newspaper apology requirement, Ng and her company sought permission to initiate committal proceedings against him. The court granted permission on 15 September. Rau was scheduled to attend a hearing on 19 October but failed to appear, leading to further proceedings over his non-compliance.

Rau Says He Cannot Afford the Newspaper Apology
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b75519fe95bcfde98531bd09af608633a8c8b050289267e60a8e4c87f7c27b63" />
During the latest hearing, Rau told the court that he was willing to comply with the order but lacked the money to pay for the newspaper publication.
He explained that he was self-employed and earned money through resume-writing services, charging between RM150 and RM300 per job. According to his testimony, the income was only enough to cover basic expenses, including food and bills.
Rau told the court that his last recorded sale was on 13 October and that he had earned no income since then. He said he had only RM50 left in his Touch &rsquo;n Go eWallet, while his car loan and home loan repayments were more than four months overdue.
He also expressed concern that his home could be auctioned if he failed to keep up with the repayments. When questioned about his support network, Rau said his family had distanced themselves from him, his wife had left, and he no longer had friends he could rely on for assistance.
&ldquo;I have no income but I am willing to comply,&rdquo; he told the court, explaining that he did not have the means to pay for the newspaper apology.
However, Ng&rsquo;s lawyer, Foong Cheng Leong, challenged Rau&rsquo;s explanation. He argued that Rau had failed to comply with the court order and allegedly continued to mock Ng and publish false statements about her on social media.
Foong also pointed out that Rau had not filed an affidavit or supporting documents to substantiate his financial difficulties. He further said the RM180,000 damages awarded by the court had yet to be paid.
Court Gives Four Days to Publish the Apology
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/551748b1fc16b159e8462a5cca997929b2ca9e3da102a50fb33246b510d42a24" />
After hearing the parties, Judge Arziah said Rau had provided a detailed account of his financial commitments and that there was merit in his explanation.
The judge ruled that the plaintiffs had not proved beyond reasonable doubt that Rau&rsquo;s failure to comply amounted to deliberate contempt of court. She considered his non-compliance to have arisen from his financial circumstances and personal difficulties rather than an intentional refusal to obey the order.
Nevertheless, the original requirement to publish a public apology remains in force. Rau was ordered to prepare the statement immediately and publish it in The Star and Harian Metro within four working days, no later than 31 October. The wording must satisfy Ng and her company.
<blockquote id="ig-tp-DevQhCUgoqX" class="text-post-media" style="background: #FFF; border-radius: 16px; max-width: 650px; margin: 1px; min-width: 270px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px); border: 1px solid #00000026;" data-text-post-permalink="https://www.threads.com/@christyemilylove/post/DevQhCUgoqX" data-text-post-version="0">

<script async="" src="https://www.threads.com/embed.js"></script>

To address his inability to pay upfront, the court directed Ng to arrange and advance the publication costs. Rau must reimburse her once the amount is communicated to him. If he cannot pay, the publication costs will be added to the sums already ordered by the court.
The judge warned that Rau must return to court on 2 November if the apology is not published by the deadline. Further directions could include imprisonment or a fine.
Who Is Christy Ng?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/f49bd19113d5e6c904998475f1ee40df9b10ac93b4e44762bcea2102be2c0561" />
Christy Ng, whose full name is Christina Mei Mei Ng, is a Malaysian fashion entrepreneur and the founder of Christy Ng Sdn Bhd. She is known for building a fashion business and establishing a public profile through her entrepreneurial work and social media presence.
Ng has said the legal action concerns more than her personal reputation, pointing to the potential impact on her company and its employees. In previous comments, she said the disputed statements had reached international clients, including those in Indonesia and the Philippines, and had caused distress to her parents. She has framed the case as a responsibility to protect the business and the livelihoods of the people who depend on it.
The latest court order means Rau must still fulfil the newspaper apology requirement, despite the judge accepting that his financial difficulties may explain his earlier failure to comply. The case also highlights the importance of complying with court orders arising from online defamation disputes, even when the parties face difficult personal or financial circumstances.

Threads User Told to Apologise To Christy Ng In Newspapers Despite Claiming Financial Hardship

Malaysia&rsquo;s iconic Petronas Twin Towers have become an unexpected source of inspiration in India, where a spectacular replica resembling the Kuala Lumpur landmark has captured attention online.
The structure was created for the annual Durga Puja celebrations, a major Hindu festival dedicated to the goddess Durga. Featuring elaborate decorations, colourful LED lighting and intricate architectural details, the temporary pavilion recreates the appearance of the world-famous Malaysian skyscrapers.
Reports on the festival in Kalyanpur, Munger district, Bihar, put the construction budget at around 3 crore rupees, equivalent to approximately RM1.29 million based on an exchange rate of RM0.043 per rupee.
The project highlights how Malaysia&rsquo;s best-known architectural landmark continues to attract international recognition, even becoming the centrepiece of a religious and cultural celebration thousands of kilometres away.
A Mini KLCC Built for a Religious Celebration
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/c02301dcfd927853de46dc9ee5cefb7889f19ad95345d3d521532ff2380cce8d" />
The Petronas Twin Towers-inspired structure was selected as the main theme for this year&rsquo;s Durga Puja celebrations in Kalyanpur.
Rather than being a permanent skyscraper, the replica forms part of a temporary festival pavilion, commonly known as a pandal, built to accommodate religious ceremonies and welcome visitors throughout the festivities.
The elaborate design features decorative entrances, glass artwork, modern lighting systems and laser displays. Visitors are greeted by an artificial waterfall at the main entrance, adding to the spectacle before they enter the main area.
A special section inspired by a Victorian-style house has also been incorporated into the design, with a designated space for worship associated with Lord Shiva.
To bring the ambitious concept to life, skilled workers from West Bengal and Jharkhand were reportedly brought in to construct the main structure. Artists specialising in glass decoration from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh were also involved in creating the intricate details.
The result combines the recognisable silhouette of Malaysia&rsquo;s twin towers with traditional religious elements and contemporary visual effects.
A 52-Metre Structure Made From Temporary Materials
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/ec6f9204442c1f8632900b6a5ad843148410483d8bcd145567e646dbf7606bdc" />
Separate viral reports have also described a Petronas Twin Towers lookalike known as the Kalyanpur Twin Tower, measuring approximately 170 feet (52 metres) tall and 150 feet (46 metres) wide.
According to those reports, around 70 workers helped build the structure, which was assembled using temporary materials rather than the concrete and steel associated with permanent skyscrapers.
Bamboo, wooden poles, plywood, fabric, ropes and polystyrene sheets, also known as thermocol, were used to recreate the distinctive shape and tiered appearance of the original towers.
LED lighting was installed across the structure, illuminating its exterior after dark and making it particularly striking in photographs and videos shared on social media.
Although the details reported for the different structures vary, the designs demonstrate the considerable effort involved in recreating an internationally recognised landmark using temporary festival construction techniques.
Durga Puja Tradition Spanning More Than 363 Years
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/059ee41b731e8609e6e9bf06bb3d39bd1eb58aea7134d4225f06d9eb216fd25c" />
Beyond the architectural spectacle, the Durga Puja celebrations in Kalyanpur are rooted in a tradition reportedly dating back more than 363 years.
The annual event remains an important occasion for the local community, bringing together worshippers and visitors from neighbouring areas.
Organisers expect more than 100,000 devotees and visitors to attend this year's celebrations, with people travelling from districts including Bhagalpur, Banka, Khagaria, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Begusarai and Purnia.
Dr Nitish Dubey, managing director of Hariom Homeo and a homeopathic practitioner, expressed appreciation for the community's continued support in organising the festival.
The celebrations are not limited to religious ceremonies. Visitors can also look forward to cultural performances featuring well-known regional entertainers, including Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, singer Kalpana Patowary and folk singer Bharat Sharma.
With large crowds expected, organisers have arranged four designated exits to help manage visitor movement. Local residents and members of the Kalyanpur Youth Club are also assisting with crowd management and safety throughout the event.
From Hawa Mahal and the Meenakshi Amman Temple to the Petronas Twin Towers
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3a154ff6a5970e686bf0446f07d72d6ba0b3063c952fc69587b43a216d4794f6" />
The Malaysian-inspired design continues a tradition of recreating famous architectural landmarks that has become a major feature of the festival in recent years.
Since 2021, organisers have selected increasingly ambitious themes, with reported construction budgets rising alongside the scale of the projects.
Previous designs include Hawa Mahal in Jaipur in 2021, followed by a Taj Hotel-inspired structure in 2022 and the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Tamil Nadu in 2023.
The festival then looked beyond India, featuring a Burj Khalifa-inspired design in 2024 and a Wat Arun-inspired structure based on the Bangkok landmark in 2025.
For 2026, the Petronas Twin Towers were chosen as the central inspiration, with the reported budget reaching 3 crore rupees, or approximately RM1.29 million.
This progression reflects the organisers' ambition to create increasingly elaborate attractions while giving visitors a different architectural theme to experience each year.
Malaysia's Iconic Landmark Captures International Attention
The replica has attracted attention on social media, with users expressing surprise at seeing a structure resembling the Petronas Twin Towers outside Malaysia.
Some welcomed the recognition of the country's best-known landmark, while others joked that the resemblance was so convincing that people might mistake the temporary pavilion for the real KLCC.
Beyond the online reactions, the project demonstrates how recognisable architecture can cross national and cultural boundaries. A landmark associated with Malaysia's modern identity has been reinterpreted as part of a longstanding Indian religious celebration.
While the replica is temporary and differs considerably from the original towers in construction and purpose, its elaborate design has given the Petronas Twin Towers another international spotlight.
For visitors attending Durga Puja, the structure offers more than a photo opportunity. It forms part of a celebration that brings together faith, craftsmanship, community participation and a shared appreciation for striking architecture.

The new iPad mini measures 195.3mm tall, 132.6mm wide and 5.4mm thick. The Wi-Fi model weighs 255g, while the Wi-Fi + 5G version weighs 263g, making both lighter than their predecessors.
It is also the first iPad with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating. Under controlled test conditions, IP67 means the device is dust-tight and can withstand immersion in freshwater up to one metre deep for 30 minutes. Water resistance can diminish over time, and liquid damage is not covered by Apple&rsquo;s warranty.
Apple has also introduced an Acoustic Display audio system. Specially designed woofers direct sound through the display, while tweeters hidden between the glass and aluminium enclosure are intended to provide clearer high frequencies. The design helps eliminate conventional speaker openings.
A20 Pro Chip and AI Performance
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/43ef8e6b3a5801fcac08869715cbe689bdcccc9080da8f1a677a357bee64e8ec" />
The tablet is powered by Apple&rsquo;s A20 Pro chip, also used in the latest iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple claims up to 60% faster multi-threaded CPU performance and up to 2.7 times faster graphics than the previous iPad mini. It also reports up to 4.5 times faster AI performance for certain tasks.
The chip supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and Neural Accelerators in each GPU core. Specifications vary by storage: the 128GB and 256GB models have a five-core CPU, seven-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. The 512GB model gets a six-core CPU and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, with the same seven-core GPU.

Apple iPad Mini 2026 Arrives in Malaysia With OLED Display, A20 Pro Chip and IP67 Water Resistance

A Malaysian developer has created a free navigation platform called Lapan as an alternative to TuJu, following frustration over technical issues affecting the government-promoted navigation app.
Developed by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/341871730272007?multi_permalinks=1866387081153790&amp;hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen">Alan Chung</a>, Lapan is a browser-based mapping service featuring 2D and 3D map views, suggested routes, alternative journeys and live traffic information. Users can access it without downloading an application or registering an account.
The project comes amid renewed debate over Malaysia's navigation apps after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim encouraged motorists to consider locally developed alternatives to Waze, citing data security concerns.
Although Lapan offers several useful features, it remains an early-stage project with limitations that could affect its reliability for everyday driving.
Lapan Is a Playful Rival to TuJu
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/60f9c83702cb50d177e0ea0d6a83bbaf6c0981ed4e5d554c631c3228609728b5" />
The name Lapan is a tongue-in-cheek reference to TuJu, with lapan meaning eight in Malay, following tujuh, or seven.
Chung developed the platform after becoming frustrated with TuJu's technical disruptions. Rather than simply voicing his complaints, he decided to build an alternative that motorists could access directly through their web browsers.
Its browser-based design means users can try the service without installing software. The lack of mandatory registration may also appeal to those who prefer not to create another account for navigation.
However, not requiring an account does not automatically guarantee complete anonymity. Users should still review the platform's privacy practices before relying on it for regular journeys.
Live Traffic Updates and Toll Calculator
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/5ac8fdaa6c56855cf0ee7aa54725bee8e9353c18dbd2be0e17d3d1ffe1994823" />
Despite being an independent project, Lapan already includes several features commonly found in established navigation services.
Users can request a suggested route and compare it with an alternative journey. The suggested route also supports live traffic information provided by TomTom, helping the platform incorporate traffic conditions into its navigation offering.
Using an established traffic-data provider allows a small project to offer useful functionality without having to develop an entire real-time traffic network independently.
Lapan also features a toll calculator, which could benefit Malaysian motorists travelling through toll roads in the Klang Valley or between states.
However, the tool appears to require manual input, with users selecting their expected toll entry and exit points instead of having charges calculated automatically from their chosen route. Integrating toll estimates directly into route planning would make the feature more convenient.
Lapan Still Has Navigation Limitations
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/d1761dcb12756156e03741f74aa42f17cabc88773a617098c280688729fe15b8" />
Despite its promising features, Lapan is not yet a fully developed replacement for established navigation platforms.
One reported issue involves destination searches. When users manually enter certain starting points or destinations instead of selecting locations from the available search results, the system may fail to generate a route.
Some locations and points of interest are also missing from its database, potentially making it difficult to navigate to less prominent destinations or find specific businesses and landmarks.
Comprehensive location coverage is a major challenge for any navigation service. Established platforms have spent years building and updating databases containing addresses, roads, businesses and other points of interest.
Chung reportedly tested Lapan himself before releasing it, but there is no indication that it has undergone extensive testing with a large group of users. Improving destination searches, location coverage and route calculations will be important if the platform is to become a dependable everyday navigation tool.
Could AI-Assisted Development Have Helped Build Lapan?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b6174e7925db10471731a23b827146fdbcfd144e448dff603a3e000d87245609" />
Lapan's rapid development highlights the growing accessibility of AI-assisted coding, commonly known as vibecoding. This approach involves using artificial intelligence tools and natural-language prompts to generate, modify or troubleshoot code.
Lapan's interface has been described as resembling patterns commonly associated with AI-generated applications. However, its development process has not been independently established, so the extent to which Chung used AI tools remains unclear.
Regardless, the project demonstrates how existing mapping services and modern development tools can help individuals turn ideas into working prototypes relatively quickly.
There is nothing inherently wrong with using AI to build software. These tools can lower barriers for aspiring developers and make experimentation more accessible.
However, producing a functioning prototype is different from building a reliable service for widespread use. Navigation platforms require accurate location data, dependable route calculations and consistent performance, as errors can inconvenience motorists and potentially create safety risks.
No Dedicated Android or iOS App Yet
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3c7578faeacedff6a1c4652dcc7b38f678215ab38be6b579c218f55737bff43c" />
Lapan currently operates through a <a href="https://lapan-malaysia.com/">web browser</a>, with no dedicated Android or iOS application announced at the time of reporting.
Its web-based approach allows users to access the service without downloading software, while enabling the developer to maintain one main platform.
A dedicated mobile application could eventually offer better smartphone integration and more reliable handling of location services. However, Chung has not confirmed whether native mobile versions are planned.
For now, Lapan's future will depend on continued development, user interest and the resources available to maintain it.
TuJu's Problems Spark Debate Over Local Navigation Apps
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/942d32cede57383d0150c937bbf0971ad2ea24c03d418a4cc5de7b5184e02b20" />
Lapan arrives as TuJu faces greater public scrutiny following the government's encouragement for Malaysians to consider local navigation alternatives.
Developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd, TuJu provides navigation alongside highway-related information, including toll rates, selected CCTV feeds and rest and recreation area details.
However, the application experienced technical disruptions following a surge in users after the government promoted it as an alternative to Waze. Its navigation function was temporarily affected while technical work was carried out.
The government has cited concerns about Waze's data handling and legal jurisdiction. The restriction applies to civil servants using Waze for official duties, rather than constituting a nationwide ban on public use.
Against this backdrop, Lapan offers another option in Malaysia's evolving navigation landscape. However, motorists should assess its route accuracy and coverage before depending on it for important journeys.
Ultimately, the project demonstrates how individual developers can respond to public frustration with practical alternatives. Whether Lapan can grow into a more comprehensive navigation service will depend on how effectively its current limitations are addressed.
