Looks like Twitch.tv is in some deep trouble as the entire databased has been leaked
An anonymous hacker had claimed to have leaked all their source codes and user pay-out information on the web.
The user had posted a 125GB torrent link to 4chan on Wednesday as it stated that the leak was intended to &ldquo;foster more disruption and competition in the online video streaming space&rdquo; due to their &ldquo;community being a disgusting toxic cesspool&rdquo;.

The files are publicly available for download as described by the anonymous hacker.
In a report by Video Game Chronical (VGC) the data leak is legitimate and the source codes for the platform was all available. Twitch is very aware of the of the breach and said it was believed that the data was obtained as recent as Monday (4 October 2021).

Twitch released a statement confirming the data breach had taken place and their team is working with urgency to understand the extent of it.
&ldquo;We will update the community as soon as additional information is available. Thank you for bearing with us,&rdquo; said Twitch.
What other things were leaked?
Below are the reportedly leaked items which was uploaded by the hacker.
<ul>
<li>The entirety of Twitch&rsquo;s source code with commit history &ldquo;going back to its early beginnings&rdquo;</li>
<li>Creator payout reports from 2019</li>
<li><a href="https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/mobile/">Mobile</a>, desktop and console Twitch clients</li>
<li>Proprietary SDKs and internal AWS services used by Twitch</li>
<li>&ldquo;Every other property that Twitch owns&rdquo; including IGDB and CurseForge</li>
<li>An unreleased&nbsp;<a href="https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/pc/steam/">Steam</a>&nbsp;competitor, codenamed Vapor, from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/amazon-games/">Amazon Game Studios</a></li>
<li>Twitch internal &lsquo;red teaming&rsquo; tools (designed to improve security by having staff pretend to be hackers)</li>
</ul>
Twitch users are recommended to change their passwords
Although no Twitch account details or credit card details were leaked, it is still recommended to change your login details. Many recommend that users enable the two-factor authentication to be safe from the leaks.
To turn on two-factor identification:
<ul>
<li>Log on to Twitch, click your avatar and choose Settings</li>
<li>Go to Security and Privacy, then scroll down to the Security setting</li>
<li>Choose Edit Two-Factor Authentication to see if it&rsquo;s already activated. If not, follow the instructions to turn it on (you&rsquo;ll need your phone)</li>

Meanwhile, the big names on Twitch such as Shroud, Nickmerces and DrLupo have even been leaked as they have been working with the popular streaming platform for a while now.
The leak only shows how much they have been earning from the Twitch streams, but they too have other sources of income which include merchandise sales, YouTube revenue, sponsorships and external donations coming from the viewers on their stream.
There is also a comprehensive list of Twitch streamers with their pay-outs. There is up to 81 Twitch streamers who have been paid more than $1 Million dollars from Twitch alone since August 2019.

If you&rsquo;re wondering, this is only a fraction of what Twitch has paid out to the streamers. Other streamers information is also available but has not been fully leaked as the anonymous hacker is still planning on when to release more of this information.
Twitch has regularly been under fire by many content creators as many of their problems has been taken for granted or little to no action was taken due to the problematic and toxic culture of the Twitch community.
Previously, some Twitch streamers have called on other channels and viewers to boycott the site for 24 hours as a response to the hate raids. For context, raids is when a channel sends groups of people to join someone else&rsquo;s stream once they are done. Some are very friendly but some not so unfortunately.

&nbsp;
&ldquo;No one should have to experience malicious and hateful attacks based on who they are or what they stand for,&rdquo; it stated. &ldquo;This is not the community we want on Twitch, and we want you to know we are working hard to make Twitch a safer place for creators.
&ldquo;Hate spam attacks are the result of highly motivated bad actors, and do not have a simple fix. Your reports have helped us take action &ndash; we&rsquo;ve been continually updating our sitewide banned word filters to help prevent variations on hateful slurs and removing bots when identified.&rdquo;
If it&rsquo;s one thing I learnt from Twitch, I know that many people simply like to hate on others. It can be on those who are good at gaming or even those who are just starting out and always trying to demotivate them. One targeted audience is female streamers as the receive the most unnecessary hate and assault on the platform.
Hopefully Twitch can get things together and make the platform a better place for the gaming and entertainment community.
