CEO Mark Zuckerberg has eyes on building the metaverse of social media. He first revealed the idea of changing their name during the annual Connect conference back in 28 October and it was the signal that the tech giant&rsquo;s ambition has more than social media on their minds.
The rebrand would likely position Facebook as one of the parent companies which will oversee groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and more.

At the moment, Facebook has over 10,000 employees who build consumer hardware such as AR glasses which Zuckerberg believes will eventually be ubiquitous as smartphones.

According to Zuckerberg, the metaverse is going to be a big focus and he thinks that it is going to be a part of the new chapter of how the internet evolves after the mobile internet. Aside from that, it&rsquo;s going to be the next big chapter for their company as they really plan to double down in this area.
Now the real question is how will we cope when we enter the metaverse? It seems like Facebook is really out there to control it all. 
Also, for those who don&rsquo;t know what a metaverse is, it&rsquo;s a sci-fi term which is a virtual world for people to escape to. In some ways, it&rsquo;s like Ready Player One.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered a nationwide crackdown on foreigners who allegedly misuse tourist and student visas to operate businesses in Malaysia, warning that such activities could undermine local livelihoods and create unfair competition for Malaysian entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the Communications Ministry&rsquo;s monthly assembly in Putrajaya, Anwar said the government is increasingly concerned about foreign nationals entering the country on visitor or student passes before engaging in commercial activities, particularly within the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.
Concerns Over Businesses Operating Under Tourist Visas

He noted that some individuals are believed to be using licences or permits registered under Malaysian citizens&rsquo; names, while others legally establish companies but rely almost entirely on imported goods and workers from their home countries, limiting opportunities for local businesses and employees.
The Prime Minister warned that these practices could have a direct impact on job opportunities for Malaysians while placing compliant local traders at a competitive disadvantage.

The Immigration Department has been tasked with tackling visa and permit misuse, while the IRB and Customs Department will focus on ensuring taxes are properly paid.

Experts also caution that prolonged abuse of immigration rules could contribute to an expanding informal economy while weakening regulatory oversight and economic sovereignty.
At the same time, observers emphasise that enforcement should distinguish between illegal operators and legitimate foreign investors, many of whom continue to play an important role in Malaysia&rsquo;s economic development through investment, innovation and job creation.

Good Drivers Could Enjoy Up to 65% in Insurance Savings

The Ministry of Transport has unveiled the Cermat Madani initiative, a new programme designed to reward responsible motorists with additional discounts on their motor insurance premiums. Developed in collaboration with 10 insurance and takaful providers, the scheme aims to encourage safer driving by linking insurance costs to an individual&rsquo;s driving behaviour.
Under the current system, motorists who maintain a claim-free record for five consecutive years can receive a maximum 55% No-Claim Discount (NCD). With Cermat Madani, eligible drivers may receive an additional rebate of up to 10%, bringing their total potential savings to 65%.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke explained that the programme is built on a simple principle: motorists who obey the law and consistently drive responsibly should be recognised and rewarded rather than being treated the same as higher-risk drivers.
How the New System Works

To qualify, motorists will need to renew their road tax and insurance through the MyJPJ application, where participating insurers and takaful operators will conduct a risk assessment.

Factors such as summonses, driving history and overall compliance will contribute to a driver's risk profile.
Drivers identified as low risk may then be offered additional premium rebates by their chosen insurer.
However, the government will not determine the exact scoring criteria or discount awarded. Instead, each participating insurance company will use its own internal risk assessment policies to decide whether a driver qualifies for a 5%, 8% or the maximum 10% rebate.
Phased Rollout Begins Now
Although the AI-based scoring mechanism will only be fully implemented from 10 September, motorists can begin enjoying benefits earlier.
As part of the programme's introductory phase, a 10% rebate will be available for all motorists purchasing insurance through MyJPJ until 9 September. After that, the rebate will become dependent on each driver's risk assessment and safety profile.
Private vehicle owners can also apply for the assessment up to two months before their road tax expires, allowing them to plan ahead for their renewals.
Encouraging Safer Roads Through Financial Incentives

&nbsp;At its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026), Apple unveiled a wide range of new child safety features spanning iPhone, iPad, Mac and other devices. While much of the spotlight was on the introduction of Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, the company also placed strong emphasis on giving parents more control over their children&rsquo;s digital experiences.
The updates are designed to help families manage who children can communicate with, what content they can access, and how apps deliver age-appropriate experiences. Apple says the changes build on its existing Screen Time and Family Sharing tools, expanding them to meet growing global concerns around online safety for minors.
Parents gain control over who children can contact

One of the key additions is a new communication approval system. Under the upcoming iOS 27 update, parents will be able to approve or decline requests when their child attempts to message, call, or FaceTime a new contact.
This means children will need parental approval before interacting with unfamiliar phone numbers across Messages, Phone and FaceTime, adding an extra safeguard to prevent unwanted or unsafe communication.
Apple is also extending these controls through a new PermissionKit framework, allowing developers to build apps where children must request approval before chatting, following, or adding new users.
&ldquo;Ask to Browse&rdquo; and safer web experiences

Apple is introducing a new &ldquo;Ask to Browse&rdquo; feature, which requires children to request permission before accessing specific websites or surfing the internet more freely.
This expands Apple&rsquo;s existing parental controls, which already include content restrictions, screen time limits, and app usage monitoring through Family Sharing. Parents will also be able to apply more detailed controls such as time-of-day restrictions, daily usage limits, and instant app pauses for family moments.
Stronger content safety and age-appropriate apps

Communication Safety tools are also being upgraded. Apple will now automatically detect and blur sensitive content, including nudity, across Messages, AirDrop, contact posters and FaceTime video calls. On-device machine learning is used to flag such content before a child views or sends it.
In addition, Apple is introducing a Declared Age Range API, which allows apps to access a child&rsquo;s age range without collecting their exact birth date. This is designed to help developers deliver more suitable content while reducing unnecessary data collection.
The App Store will also be updated with more detailed age ratings, giving parents clearer guidance when selecting apps for their children.
Easier setup for child accounts and improved Screen Time

Apple is making Child Account setup simpler during device onboarding. Parents will be able to configure safety settings more quickly, while default protections will still apply even if a child is not fully added to a family group.
Child Accounts remain required for users under 13 and available up to age 18.
Screen Time is also being redesigned, offering a clearer overview of device usage, most-used apps and recommended controls. Parents can now adjust permissions instantly, extend app access when needed, or limit usage during key moments such as meals or study time.
Wider debate around online safety and regulation

Apple&rsquo;s announcement comes amid increasing global pressure on tech companies to improve protections for children online. In the UK, regulators have been tightening requirements around age-appropriate design, while countries like Australia and others are introducing or considering restrictions on underage social media access.
In Malaysia, the MCMC has proposed measures requiring social media users under 16 to verify their age using MyKad or official identification documents.
However, Apple&rsquo;s WWDC presentation was also met with protest outside its headquarters, where advocacy groups criticised the company over the continued availability of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online and called for stronger action.
Rollout across Apple&rsquo;s ecosystem
The new child safety features will roll out alongside Apple&rsquo;s next major software updates, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27 later this year.
Apple says the goal is to give parents better tools to guide their children&rsquo;s digital habits while maintaining privacy, security and a balanced online experience.

Many Rohingya families have since built lives in Malaysia while waiting for long-term resettlement opportunities through international agencies. However, issues surrounding undocumented migration, employment, housing and public resources have continued to fuel debate among Malaysians.

The latest controversy erupted after an old video recorded by radio personality and actor Pak Azad resurfaced online, showing what appeared to be a four-storey building hidden within Sungai Tekali, Hulu Langat.
Initially stumbling upon the structure while travelling for a filming session, Pak Azad expressed shock at its unusual appearance, questioning whether it had been self-built rather than developed through conventional construction methods. The building featured unfinished brickwork, zinc roofing over corridor walkways and what appeared to be improvised water and electrical connections, prompting many online to question its legality and safety.
The footage quickly spread across social media, with many alleging that the building was occupied by members of the Rohingya community and had been constructed without official approval.
Authorities Point To Landowners As The Root Cause

Following the renewed attention, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) confirmed that the structure had indeed been built without approval from local authorities and issued notices under existing legal provisions.
Investigations found that no planning permission or construction applications had been submitted through the council&rsquo;s approval system despite the development occupying multiple land lots, including part of a government river reserve.
Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz explained that the issue had already been raised during Hulu Langat District Action Council meetings since last year. According to him, multiple enforcement operations had already taken place, but the main obstacle lies with landowners who allegedly permitted foreigners to occupy the land and construct buildings while also facilitating access to water and electricity.
He stressed that enforcement should not focus solely on the residents but also on those who enabled the settlement to exist in the first place. Based on information shared by authorities, around 400 Rohingya individuals are believed to have established a settlement in the area.
Previous Enforcement Operations Already Conducted

Authorities also revealed that the premises had previously been targeted during an integrated enforcement operation in February last year.
During that raid, dozens of foreign nationals, including men, women and children, were detained for immigration-related offences. A local individual linked to the property owner was also reportedly issued documentation by immigration authorities during the operation.
Police have since indicated that the site is currently believed to house both the property owner&rsquo;s family and local tenants, although investigations into the overall legality of the structure and land use remain ongoing.
Growing Calls To Remove Rohingya From Malaysia

The Sungai Tekali controversy has unfolded against a backdrop of increasing frustration among sections of the Malaysian public.
