We all know how strict North Korea is as they have been totally separated from the world.
Recently, a man in North Korea has been sentenced to death as he had smuggled and sold copies of the hit Netflix series &ldquo;Squid Game&rdquo; after authorities had caught seven high school students watching the show.
The smuggler is said to have brought the copy of the show from China and had sold USB flash drives containing the series.
Claims from sources in North Korea say that his death will be carried out by firing squad.

Students given sentences
One student who bought the drive had receive a life sentence while the other six have been sentenced to give years of hard labour.
Reports say that a week before this incident, copies of the show have been spreading across North Korea via flash drives and SD cards.
How did the students get caught?

According to Radio Free Asia (RFA), this is the details of how they caught the students:
&ldquo;This all started last week when a high school student secretly bought a USB flash drive containing the South Korean drama Squid Game and watched it with one of his best friends in class,&rdquo; a source in law enforcement in North Hamgyong province told RFA&rsquo;s Korean Service Monday.
&ldquo;The friend told several other students, who became interested, and they shared the flash drive with them. They were caught by the censors in 109 Sangmu, who had received a tipoff,&rdquo; said the source, referring to the government strike force that specializes in catching illegal video watchers, known officially as Surveillance Bureau Group 109.
Introduction of a new law and punishing others

With the incident involving minors, a newly passed law was used which was the &ldquo;Elimination of Reactionary Thought and Culture&rdquo;. It was introduced back in December 2020 and carries a maximum death penalty for watching, keeping or distributing media from capitalist countries.
Teachers and school administrators have also been fired and faced banishment to work in the remote mines and rural areas.
The aftermath of all this had made all authorities to begin sourcing markets for memory storage devices and video CDs containing foreign media. Another source says that one student had managed to get away as his rich parents had bribe authorities with US$3,000 (~RM707).
Boy, can you imagine getting a life sentence for watching a foreign show. But then again, everyone knew how strict North Korea is and heck, remember when Covid-19 first came up, they shot the man who was positive with the virus in order to curb the virus but that didn&rsquo;t go so well as they currently have more than 100,000 people with Covid-19 symptoms and are quarantined in state facilities according to a report by DailyNK.
Well, hopefully one day North Korea will change and then one day they will get to properly see the world. That and I lowkey do want to go to North Korea one day (am I the only one?).
