This medical news might trigger some communities out there, but trust me and read this through.
First of all, pig heart? For real?
The first person to receive a heart transplant from a genetically modified pig is recovering well following the treatment, which took place last week in Baltimore, Maryland.
Transplant surgeons believe that the advancement will allow them to provide more humans with animal organs, but various ethical and technological challenges may come to mingle along the journey.
"This was a breakthrough surgery and brings us one step closer to solving the organ shortage crisis. There are simply not enough donor human hearts available to meet the long list of potential recipients," Dr. Bartley Griffith, who surgically transplanted the pig heart into the patient, said in a statement.
&ldquo;We are proceeding cautiously, but we are also optimistic that this first-in-the-world surgery will provide an important new option for patients in the future,&rdquo; Griffith added.
Why Did You Agree For A Pig&rsquo;s Heart Inside Your Chest?
It was a life and death option for 57-year-old David Bennett.
&ldquo;It was either die or do this transplant. I want to live. I know it&rsquo;s a shot in the dark, but it&rsquo;s my last choice,&rdquo; Bennett said a day before his surgery, according to a statement released by the university.
Bennett had been on cardiac support for almost two months and couldn&rsquo;t receive a mechanical heart pump because of an irregular heartbeat.
Neither could he receive a human transplant, because he had a history of not complying with doctors&rsquo; treatment instructions. Given that he otherwise faced certain death, the researchers got permission from the FDA to give Bennett a pig heart.
The Procedure
Of course, it was nothing like, "Hey, how about a surgery with a pig's heart?" and Bennett like, "Yeah dude, why not."

The institution gained emergency approval from the US Food and Drug Administration on New Year's Eve to proceed with the experimental procedure under its compassionate use programme.
According to Al Jazeera news, "The FDA used our data and data on the experimental pig to authorise the transplant in an end-stage heart disease patient who had no other treatment options," said Dr. Muhammad Mohiuddin, who heads the University's programme on xenotransplantation &ndash; transplanting animal organs into humans.
There are about 110,000 Americans who are currently on the waiting list for an organ transplant, and more than 6,000 patients lose their life every year before getting one, as mentioned by <a href="https://www.organdonor.gov/">organdonor.gov</a>.
Revivicor, a regenerative medicine company located in Virginia, equipped Bennett with his genetically engineered pig heart. The transplant team extracted the pig's heart the morning of the surgery and placed it in a special device to keep it functioning until the actual&nbsp;surgery for Bennett.
In the heart implanted in Bennett, three genes previously linked with organ rejection were &ldquo;knocked out&rdquo; of the donor pig, and six human genes linked with immune acceptance were inserted into the pig genome.
To avoid unnecessary development of the pig heart tissue, researchers also removed a pig gene.
The research was partially financed by a $15.7 million research grant to test Revivicor's genetically modified pig hearts in baboon studies.
Bennett was given an experimental anti-rejection medication concerning the genetic alterations to the pig heart.

Rapid KL has confirmed that the loud explosion-like sound heard on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line on the evening of 30 June was caused by a thin stray wire becoming entangled in the railway's power supply system, and not by a fault with the train itself.

According to Rapid KL, preliminary investigations found that a thin external wire, which was not part of the train or railway infrastructure, had become lodged in the Kelana Jaya Line's power supply system.
The wire eventually melted after coming into contact with the electrical system, producing a bright spark and a loud sound that many passengers initially believed was a small explosion.
As a precaution, the operator immediately removed the affected train from service. Passengers were safely asked to disembark at the next station before continuing their journeys on another train.
Rapid KL stressed that the incident was handled in accordance with its safety procedures and that passenger safety remained its highest priority.

Rapid KL, however, maintained that the incident was caused by an external object rather than a failure of its train or rail infrastructure, and reiterated that technical inspections confirmed the system remained safe for operation.

How To Redeem The Voucher

Meanwhile, students at public universities can redeem their vouchers through the <a href="https://mysiswaplace.my/welcome">MySiswaPlace</a> portal.
The fully digital system allows students from across the country, including those living in rural and remote areas, to purchase books online and have them delivered directly to their homes.
New Requirement Introduced This Year

One of the biggest updates to the 2026 programme is the introduction of the MADANI Special Title Focus.
Under the new requirement, every voucher recipient must purchase at least one book from a specially curated category before using the remainder of the voucher balance.
The selected collection includes literary classics and works of literature, as well as books covering history, philosophy, economics, geopolitics and human capital development.
Students are also encouraged to explore titles related to future-focused subjects, including artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and digitalisation.
The ministry said the initiative is intended to broaden students' knowledge beyond their school curriculum while encouraging interest in emerging technologies and strategically important fields.
Digital System Introduced To Improve Transparency
The Ministry of Education first switched to a fully digital voucher system in 2024 following complaints that some recipients had sold their physical vouchers at discounted prices instead of using them to purchase books.
Wong previously explained that moving the programme online has significantly improved transparency while ensuring government allocations are used for their intended purpose.
He said the digital platform enables the ministry to monitor voucher usage more effectively, helping eliminate misuse and preventing leakages.
The online purchasing system has also made it easier for students nationwide to access reading materials regardless of where they live.
Programme Shows Positive Results

Since its introduction, the MADANI Book Voucher Programme has received encouraging feedback from students.
According to an impact study conducted by the Institut Darul Ehsan, 97.5% of respondents agreed that the vouchers had greatly benefited students, particularly those from lower-income households.
Meanwhile, 92.2% said the vouchers helped them prepare more effectively for examinations by giving them access to additional learning materials.
The ministry also reported that the programme achieved a 100% redemption rate in 2024, demonstrating the success of its digital implementation.
Wong described the programme as having delivered 100% redemption, 100% transparency and zero leakages, while ensuring students across both urban and rural communities enjoy equal opportunities to obtain quality reading materials.
Supporting Reading And Lifelong Learning
The MADANI Book Voucher Programme forms part of the government's broader efforts to encourage reading habits among Malaysian students while reducing the cost of purchasing educational resources.
By combining a fully digital redemption system with a wider selection of books and a stronger emphasis on literature, history and future technologies, the ministry hopes the programme will not only support students' academic performance but also cultivate lifelong learning and a deeper appreciation for knowledge.
Eligible students have until 31 October to redeem and utilise their RM100 e-vouchers through the designated online platforms.

Malaysians can now apply for the country's new-generation international passport, which introduces an optional 10-year validity period alongside a host of upgraded security features designed to strengthen protection against forgery and identity fraud.
The new passport officially became available on 1 July, following its launch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The upgraded travel document is being introduced in stages across the country, giving eligible Malaysians aged 18 and above the option of choosing either a five-year or 10-year passport depending on their travel needs.
According to the Home Ministry, the initiative is aimed at making passport renewals more convenient while reinforcing Malaysia's reputation as one of the world's most trusted travel documents.
Two Validity Options For Travellers

For the first time, Malaysians can choose between a standard five-year passport or a new 10-year validity period.
The five-year passport continues to cost RM200, while the 10-year passport is priced at RM350.
Although the longer-validity passport costs RM150 more upfront, it offers better long-term value. Applicants who choose the 10-year option save RM50 compared with renewing a five-year passport twice over the same period.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the longer validity period is intended to reduce the frequency of renewals while offering greater convenience, particularly for those who travel regularly for work, business, education or family commitments.
The ministry also hopes the initiative will simplify passport applications and reduce administrative workload over time.
Nationwide Rollout Begins In Phases

While applications are now open, the new passport is not being introduced at every Immigration office simultaneously.
The Immigration Department is implementing the rollout in phases across 71 passport offices nationwide, with the first phase beginning this month at 14 passport issuing offices, including state Immigration offices and selected Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs).
According to Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, the nationwide rollout is expected to be completed in seven phases by August, ensuring a smooth operational transition as offices gradually begin issuing the redesigned passport.
He added that new-generation passport printing machines are capable of producing up to 60 passports per hour, supporting the current average monthly demand of around 160,000 passports, although Malaysia often issues between 180,000 and 220,000 passports each month.
Nearly Double The Security Features

One of the biggest upgrades is the passport's significantly improved security.

Malaysia was among the first countries to introduce electronic passports in 1998, and officials say the latest redesign continues that legacy by incorporating more advanced security technologies.
New Design Reflects Malaysia's Identity

No Need To Replace Existing Passports Immediately
Despite the introduction of the new passport, authorities have stressed that Malaysians should not rush to replace passports that remain valid.
Existing passports can continue to be used until they are close to expiry, with the Home Ministry recommending renewal only when there are six months or less remaining before the passport expires.
Zakaria reiterated that passport holders whose documents remain valid can continue using them without concern, noting that replacement is only necessary when a passport expires or when applying for a new travel document.
Strengthening Malaysia's International Standing
Officials say the upgraded passport represents more than just a longer validity period.
The combination of enhanced security features, improved production technology and greater convenience is intended to ensure Malaysia's passport remains secure, reliable and aligned with international best practices.

Anthropic revealed the update in a post on X, saying it had received official notice that export controls on both Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 had been lifted.

Why The Models Were Suspended
