If its one thing the pandemic has done, it&rsquo;s increased the retail price of many of our daily necessary items.
But with the pandemic, we had also been thankful to have a scheme called Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) which is one of the largest service sectors in the current market.

According to a report by Malay Mail, the BNPL payment could double on an annual basis to reach RM2.65 billion in 2022.
One of the key reasons behind this is due to the rapid growth of credit cards appealing. But, unlike credit cards, if you were to use the BNPL your credit history is not vetted.
How does BNPL work?
The system is pretty simple. Essentially consumers who use this on e-commerce platforms are just breaking the payments into installments.
Unlike credit cards which require requires stringent requirements, everyone can easily get BNPL. Most payment schemes will allow anyone to apply for it no matter how big the payment is.
For one to sign up for BNPL, all you have to do is sign up, fill up your personal details and you&rsquo;re good to go. Atome Singapore and Malaysia&rsquo;s general manager Trasy Lou-Walsh says that they were thinking of ways to disrupt the credit card industry with this payment scheme.
One issue is that there&rsquo;s lack of regulation which has sparked concern about the risk of bad debt and default, however that hasn&rsquo;t stopped more players joining in the competition as there are now dozens of BNPL players, banks and establish services in the industry.
Who are the BNPL platforms in Malaysia and how do they differ?
1) Atome

5) Shopee SpayLater

A recent viral post in Malaysia took many by surprise when a customer claimed to have been billed RM10.60 for additional chilli sauce packets. Saiful Adly Abdul Wahab, who originally shared the post on Facebook, expressed astonishment at the exorbitant charge for 10 packets of chilli sauce. In truth, McDonald's customers typically receive additional sauce packets at no extra cost.

Some individuals defended McDonald's by suggesting this pricing might be a cost-saving measure in the face of escalating global expenses, while others decried the situation as unfair, noting that sauce is typically provided free of charge.
As of the time of writing, Saiful Adly's Facebook post had garnered more than 1.1K reactions, over 1.7K comments, and 403 shares.

Upon discovering the situation, McDonald's Malaysia has addressed the incident that occurred at their Taman Buaya branch in Melaka. Following an internal inquiry and a review of CCTV footage, it was revealed that the customer initially received an insufficient amount of chilli sauce but was promptly provided with extra packets upon request.
However, the situation took a turn when the customer, despite being informed that the additional chilli sauce was complimentary, became verbally aggressive toward the staff. He insisted on paying for an extra 10 packets of chilli sauce. Subsequently, the incident was reported to the police as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of their employees. McDonald's emphasized that the welfare and well-being of their crew members remain their top priority.
Netizens Share Their Thoughts On The Incident 
As the post began to circulate widely on social media, numerous internet users chimed in with their opinions regarding the incident. Even former Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik took notice, remarking that McDonald's seemed to be causing unnecessary confusion. He questioned the logic behind the POS system generating a receipt for chilli sauce, an item that is not intended for sale.

However, there were instances where some customers had less favourable experiences, such as outlets limiting sauce packets to just two per customer or even ignoring requests for extra sauce.

As someone who only occasionally orders McDonald's, I can attest that asking for tomato sauce with our meals can feel nearly impossible. Even if we leave a note requesting tomato sauce, we often receive extra packets of chilli sauce instead.
To be honest, the situation seems a bit excessive, and involving the police may not have been necessary. Hopefully, things turn out well for Saiful Adly, as he is just one of the many frustrated McDonald's customers who have had such experiences.

You can now have voice conversations with ChatGPT
Users have the liberty to use the ChatGPT app to verbally pose their questions. The AI will then provide responses in an artificial voice. For instance, you can simply request ChatGPT to tell you a bedtime story, and it will promptly generate a narrative that it will read aloud to you.

Another example is when you capture a photo of your bike and request a way to lower the seat, it will then prompt you to snap a picture of your toolbox and the available manual, or else, ChatGPT can&rsquo;t suggest the appropriate tools and instructions as the proper guide to lower your bike&rsquo;s seat. 
According to <a href="https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt-can-now-see-hear-and-speak">OpenAI</a>, the new features will be readily available in the next two weeks for Plus and Enterprise users. As such, they will have an opportunity to have voice-like conversations and image interactions with ChatGPT.

Got7's BamBam Set To Thrill KL Fans By Performing A Local Song Of Their Choice!

Commonly, many of us would like to avoid paying taxes if given a choice. However, the act of refraining from paying taxes will lead to major consequences we never thought of. 
Recently, a notable celebrity doctor shared a few videos through his TikTok account <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@say_shazril0">@say_shazril0</a> on his unpleasant experience of dealing with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) when he was contacted back in October 2020. He shared the incident he experienced to warn and urge the public to pay their taxes responsibly, especially YouTubers, influencers, TikTokers, and any freelancers who thought they were smart enough to escape from it.

Looking back at that moment, he received a letter from LHDN and was summoned by them to come to their office due to him not paying taxes for the vast and numerous content he posted on social media. 
Previously, he thought it was a scam but when a second letter came to knock at his door, he was like &ldquo;Shit, this was real!&rdquo; 
When he arrived at the LHDN office, piles of documents were presented to him and that led him to feel shocked as to how they were able to trace all the evidence of the social media campaign he did for several brands since 2016. 
As such, you can&rsquo;t avoid your responsibility, right? 
Dr. Shazril looked so "kantoi-ed" when he knew he couldn&rsquo;t hide as a means to protect himself when the truth was revealed in front of his eyes. 
The interrogation went on for hours and he was questioned on how much he charged for each campaign as well as his earnings for both shows named Tanya Doktor and MyDoctors. With that, he disclosed everything truthfully just so it would be easier for both parties. 
According to LHDN, they investigated that Dr. Shazril owned a few assets such as a house, car, and motorcycle, and from there, they realized he earned RM160,000 annually between 2018 and 2019. 
Fortunately, the interrogation was merely a &ldquo;test&rdquo; as LHDN wanted to know if Dr. Shazril was a truthful person.

After a thorough calculation from LHDN, apparently, he only needed to pay a total of RM50,000 to them but still, he was cracking his head as to how he was able to settle his tax liabilities in a month. 
Thankfully, an LHDN officer named Raihan was polite and supportive enough to manage his case. He requested him to search for all his receipts just so he could reduce his tax liabilities. In the end, from RM50,000, he managed to reduce the enormous amount to RM40,000! Moreover, another good news came when he was allowed to pay it on a few installment basis. So to say, his hard work of searching through highs and lows was worthwhile to ease his burden at least.

It can be said that Dr. Shazril truly learned his lesson. Now, he cultivates the habit of keeping all the receipts, arranging and sorting them accordingly for his own track record just so he can prove to LHDN whenever they are in quest of him. 
In one of his videos, he said, &ldquo;Pay your taxes. This is what contributes to the economy. Don&rsquo;t be like the old me, and fulfil your responsibilities.&rdquo;

This is to say, be it young or old, paying taxes is an inevitable process that everyone has to go through and is required to commit to.

According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the rise in the cost of living can be partly from the &ldquo;global factors.&rdquo; University Keusahawan Koperasi Malaysia&rsquo;s Abu Sofian Yaacob mentioned that global factors like the Ukraine-Russian war, are said as the cause that contributes to inflation and impacts the cost of living among Malaysians. As such, it is beyond the government's control when external factors erupt.

Beyond the costs of ingredients and operational expenses, another factor contributing to higher food prices is the overall high cost of living. This is acutely felt by many Malaysians who frequently dine out, whether due to their hectic work schedules or simply to avoid traffic when heading home.

Working As An IT Support After Graduation
On Instagram, there is a very popular page that&rsquo;s been sharing the stories submitted by Malaysians about their work experience, struggles and insights called <a href="https://www.instagram.com/malaysianpaygap/">Malaysian Pay Gap</a>.
His initial foray into the IT field led him to a desk-side IT support role at a hospital. The position wasn't particularly glamorous, and the compensation, at RM1,800, wasn't exceptionally enticing. While some might consider this a decent starting salary, the stark truth was that he had to remain on-call 24/7 to address emergencies. After a year in this demanding role, he ultimately decided to resign, citing the job's intense nature as the primary reason for his departure.

His next career move took him to a local software company where he worked in customer support. The role at this company offered a more favourable job description compared to his previous one, and over the course of three years, his salary increased from RM3,000 to RM3,500. While this was a positive development, he began to feel professionally stagnant and believed that there were limited opportunities for growth. Consequently, he made the decision to resign and actively started searching for a new job.
Realising That There Was A Hidden Gem This Whole Time

While he was on the hunt for new job prospects, he stumbled upon a goldmine of opportunities for help desk agents. What caught his eye was that speaking multiple languages could land you a better pay cheque.
&ldquo;I have self-learned Japanese for a long time, though not super proficient but it is serviceable. I then registered for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2, scored it and used it to secure my 3rd job.&rdquo;
After snagging a job as an IT help desk staffer in a multinational company's shared service team, catering to Japanese clients, he was pleasantly surprised by his starting salary of RM4,800. Over the next two years, it crept up to RM5,300. Although he was content with his pay, another company dangled a tempting offer in front of him&mdash;RM8,000 in total, comprising a base salary of RM6,400 and a language allowance of RM1,600.

At the end of the day, the man took a moment to ponder his journey over the years. He acknowledged that if he hadn't been willing to venture beyond his comfort zone, he wouldn't have found himself in the position he occupies today.
&ldquo;Learning a new language and working in the said language environment has grown my career and broadened my horizon beyond my expectations. I can now watch anime without subtitles and travel to Japan with zero language issues,&rdquo; he shared.
He also left words of encouragement and told others to pick up a new language when possible as it could open up a door of opportunities in the future.
Now that&rsquo;s quite the encouragement. To be fair, as Malaysians, many of us are bilingual or even trilingual but it&rsquo;s no harm to always add a language or two to our vocabulary and expand our horizons. Hopefully, this will encourage others to always strive for knowledge and to perhaps step out of their comfort zone.

However, the story of one remarkable Malaysian defies the odds, as he achieved the unthinkable &ndash; earning what might take years for others in just two remarkable weeks!
Student Rakes In RM100k By Selling Clothes
Meet 22-year-old Muhammad Amin Syarifuddin Aziz, who accomplished what many deemed 'unattainable.' In August 2022, while pursuing his education at Poly-Tech Mara College (KPTM) in Bangi Selangor, he ventured into the realm of clothing entrepreneurship. This bold move was spurred by the high market demand and a multitude of fashion trends sweeping through the industry.

Amin initially left school several years ago without much direction and ventured into the corn juice business, where he managed to earn approximately RM1,000 per day. Subsequently, he returned to his education, motivated by his desire not to be a financial burden on his parents.
His decision to pursue higher education was influenced by his parent's concern for his future. In response, he committed to continuing his studies to honour their wishes. He specifically opted for a Diploma in Business Management, aiming to acquire knowledge that would not only assist him in becoming a successful individual but also in advancing his business ventures.
A Progressive Start To His Business

Initially, when he first started his business, Amin only managed to sell 300 pieces of clothing and it was a pretty slow start. But thanks to the help of his teammates, he&rsquo;s managed to record sales of the shirts by earning RM100,000 in just two weeks.
He was very thankful when he managed to sell that many shirts and as for the profits, he has no intention of making any as he would like to help other students generate income and intends to help ease the burden of parents who have been bearing the cost of their children&rsquo;s education.
Since he started his shirt business, Amin has managed to help generate income for 60 agents among students and the challenge of his business is something he enjoys as it requires him to come up with strategies so he can balance both his business and studies at the same time.

To end it off, Amin also shared that his idol behind his shirt business is entrepreneur Hafiz Mahamad. He also shared his interest in clothing since he was a kid and that working brings him joy and only wants to see the success of the business he&rsquo;s worked in.
&ldquo;I really hope to meet him one day and would love to find out the secrets he has so I too can achieve success like him,&rdquo; he said.
Now that&rsquo;s very inspirational. This goes to show that no matter what you do in life if you keep the grind going, you&rsquo;re bound to achieve the unthinkable.
