For those living in the Klang Valley, public transport has been one of the key modes of transportation around town. But lately, we&rsquo;ve all been facing issues with the overcrowding of commuters, service delays, interruptions and sometimes the breakdown of our Light Rail Transport (LRT).
It looks like Malaysians who frequently commute using public transport will have to be a bit more patient over the next few months and will probably need to find alternative transport as we have some bad news.
Anthony Loke Announces Ampang LRT Disruption

In a press conference held at the parliament, Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke announced that the Ampang Line LRT is set to face disruptions in its service between the Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek stations.
The disruption is caused by the ongoing repair works that are currently being conducted along the line since March after damage was found along the Bandaraya LRT station.

&ldquo;The repair work required will take about 7 months to complete and unfortunately disruptions are inevitable,&rdquo; said Loke.

After an investigation was carried out, it was revealed that the structure had indicated a critical safety risk which needed immediate action. As for what caused it, it was alleged that the damage had been done after the structure experienced ground movement from a proposed 44-story hotel site located not far away from the station.
To add fuel to the fire, the construction project near the station had not obtained the approval of the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad). The ministry is now considering taking legal action against the developer after allowing the construction to happen.
Apologises For The Disruptions

Loke also apologised for the inconvenience of the LRT disruption. For now, the government will be bearing the cost of the repairs along the Ampang LRT line as the disruption of Prasarana&rsquo;s operations will affect thousands of people. The ministry cannot afford to wait for compensation and the line will not be in operation until a green light is given by their consultants as safety is their #1 priority.
Alternative transportation has already been arranged by Rapid KL and users can opt for bus services between the Bandaraya and Masjid Jamil stations which was introduced on 27 January.
For those who commute via MRT, the new Putrajaya MRT line will be opening soon and will feature access to the city centre via the Chan Sow Lin, Titiwangsa and Sungai Besi stations.
It&rsquo;s time to properly plan our commute now. In case you don&rsquo;t want to be late for work, it&rsquo;s highly recommended that commuters make a move to work earlier to avoid the crowds or potential delays faced in the morning rush hour.
