For many Malaysians, visiting a shopping mall has become a weekly routine for some. Sometimes it can be us shopping for goods or even just walking around to grab a meal with friends and family or even attending an exciting event that&rsquo;s being hosted at the mall.
Yesterday, shoppers and tenants at BMC Mall in Bandar Mahkota Cheras were taken aback when the ceiling suddenly collapsed around noon. Witnesses described the collapse as sudden, but fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as there were no individuals in the vicinity. However, the fallen ceiling did cause damage to three shops below it.

For those who have not heard of the mall before, previously it was known as AEON Bandar Mahkota Cheras.
A spokesperson from the fire department informed the media that they received the report around noon and immediately dispatched six officers to the location. BMC Mall released a statement informing that the collapse of the ceiling had nothing to do with the building's main structure and that the building overall remains stable.

Currently, the mall is operational but has temporarily restricted access to certain areas as a precautionary measure. A comprehensive inspection is underway, and necessary repairs are being carried out to ensure a safe and secure environment for all patrons.

As it isn&rsquo;t common to see a ceiling to suddenly collapse, many netizens on social media speculated that the incident could have been caused by using cheap material or even flawed work during the installation of the ceiling.
The incident took a shocking turn when Twitter user Ivan (@ivankts) disclosed that he and several other shoppers found themselves trapped inside the mall as all emergency exits were locked. Panic spread among the trapped individuals, fearing that a fire had broken out and they had no means of escape.

Now that&rsquo;s pretty scary. At least this was the ceiling collapsing, what if a fire broke out? Hopefully, the mall will address the issues of their emergency exits being locked soon enough and the real cause of the ceiling collapsing will be revealed soon enough.

From 1st April 2025, all applications for hiking and recreational activities in Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests (HSK) must be made online via the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest). This move, announced by the Selangor Forestry Department on 20th March, aims to simplify the permit application process, making it more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly by reducing paperwork.
Previously, hikers and outdoor lovers had to download and complete a form, submit it via email or in person at a forestry district office, and make payments through bank draft, postal order, or cash at the counter. With SeForest, the entire process is now digital, ensuring a faster and more convenient experience.
Which Locations Require an ePermit?

Since 1st September 2024, restrictions have been in place regarding the maximum number of visitors allowed per day in 43 recreational and hiking sites across Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests. This measure was introduced to reduce environmental strain and protect the delicate ecosystems within these reserves.
The daily visitor cap varies based on the size and ecological sensitivity of each forest reserve, with limits ranging from 150 to 300 people per day. Additionally, certain locations require hikers to hire a certified mountain guide (Malim Gunung Perhutanan) before attempting specific trails to ensure safety and environmental conservation.
Temporary Closures for Hari Raya Aidilfitri
